Michael Bowens
DANVILLE, Va. - Michael Antonio Bowens, 39, of 332 Memorial Drive, died Sunday, April 4, 1999, at his residence.
Born August 8, 1959, in Danville, he was the son of Herman Bethel and Marva Bowens Totten.
Survivors include his mother of Danville; his father of Danville; his step-father, Aaron Totten of Danville; a daughter Catrina Florence of Danville; a son, Gaberil Graham of Danville; a brother, Wesley Bowens of Danville; three sisters, Vickie B. Harris of Martinsville and Angela Bowens and Adrienne Totten, both of Danville.
The funeral will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Fisher and Watkins Funeral home with the Rev. Jerry Hailstock officiating.
Interment will follow at Highland Burial Park.
The family will recieve friends at the funeral home.
Ida Davis
KEELING, Va. - Ida Davis, 73, of 920 Loop Road, died Friday, April 9, 1999, at her residence.
Born Jan. 3, 1926, in Danville, she was the daughter of William Ellis Moorefield and Ida Lee Smith Moorefield.
She was married
to Alfred C. Davis, who predeceased her.
She was a member of Rivermont Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, Alfred D. Davis of Keeling; one sister, Joyce D. Marshall of Chesterfield; and two grandchildren.
She was predeceased by two brothers William F. Moorefield and Alex R. "Buster" Moorefield; and one sister, Annie M. Moore.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Barker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Daryl Joyce officiating. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home and at other times at the residence.
Edna Hamlett
LEASBURG, Va. - Edna Ford Hamlett, 78, of 2543 N.C. Hwy. 119 North, died Friday, April 9, 1999, at her residence after declining in health for several months. She was born Feb. 18, 1921, in Person County, N.C., the daughter of Bessie Fuqua Ford and Hunter Ford.
She was a member of Griers Presbyterian Church and a homemaker.
She was predeceased by two sons, Wayne Hamlett and Larry Lee Hamlett; five brothers, Willie Ford, Hubert Ford, T.H. Ford, Carlton Ford and Alvis Ford; and one sister, Shirley Walker.
She was married
to Malcolm Hamlett, who survives, of the home.
Other survivors include one daughter, Brenda Vernon of Milton, N.C.; two sons, Steve Hamlett and Randy Hamlett, both of Leasburg; three brothers, Bernice Ford of Greensboro, N.C., John Ford of Reidsville, N.C. and Arthur "Doc" Ford of Graham, N.C.; one sister, Helen F. Smith of Liberty, N.C.; and five grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Griers Presbyterian Church cemetery with the Rev. Tom Lane officiating.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Frankie Hardy
DANVILLE, Va. - Sarah Frances "Frankie" Hawkins Hardy, 82, formerly of Ringgold Community, died Thursday, April 8, 1999, in Danville Regional Medical Center after two years of declining health, and after being in Riverside Health Care Center for 18 months.
Born July 11, 1916, in Danville, Va., she was the daughter of William Edward Hawkins and Lelia Hill Hawkins.
She was married
to James Thomas "Tommy" Hardy, who predeceased her Jan. 12, 1993.
She had lived all of her life in the Ringgold community. She worked for Dan River Inc. in the sewing room for a number of years and was a homemaker. She was a member of Ringgold Baptist Church where she was a nursery worker for many years and was also a member of the Joy Club.
Survivors include one sister, Ruth Eastridge of Danville.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. today at Ringgold Baptist Church with the Rev. Carl Burger officiating. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.

John Jordan
DANVILLE, Va. - John Lee Jordan, 27, of 533 Ingram St., died Thursday, April 8, 1999, at his residence.
Born March 3, 1967, in Danville, he was the son of the late Noah Lee Jordan and Annie Deering Jordan, who survives.
He lived most of his life in Danville, and was a carpenter for John W. Daniel Co. He attended Blessed Hope Baptist Church.
In addition to his mother of the residence, survivors include one daughter, Samantha Jo Jordan of Callands; one half-brother, Billy Johns of Danville; and two half-sisters, Barbara Walker of Ringgold and Patsy Donahue of Danville.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Danville Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Brian Edwards officiating.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Lynwood Mann
DANVILLE, Va. - Lynwood "Toots" Mann Sr., 74, of 190 Nelson Ave., died Thursday, April 8, 1999, at 1:15 a.m. at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born April 5, 1925, he was the son of Eugene B. Mann and Madie Mills Mann.
Mr. Mann was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church, the New Hope Sunday School class, American Legion Memorial Post #325, Veterans of Foreign Wars Ballard Pruitt Post No. 647, Danville Senior Citizens Club, Dan River Retirees Club, and a life member of Poquoson Tribe No. 124 Improved Order of Redmen.
He retired on disability after 32 years as an electrician with Dan River Inc. During World War II and the Korean Conflict, he served in the U.S. Navy.
On June 27, 1948, he married
Cleda Worley Mann, who survives.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include a son and daughter-in-law Lynwood J. Mann Jr. and Sylvia R. Mann, both of Danville; a sister, Hazel M. Doolin of Danville; a brother, Eugene B. Mann of Hobe-Sound, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Sue Worley of Danville; and a brother-in-law, Bobby Worley of Danville.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Freddy Mann, Jesse Mann and Bill Mann; and two sisters, Virginia Shelton and Thelma Mann.
The funeral will be held today at 2 p.m. at Barker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ron Mateer, the Rev. Dr. David Palmer and the Rev. Ron Graham officiating.
Interment will be in Highland Burial Park with graveside military honors by American Legion Post #325 Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Inez Smith
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Inez Vestal Smith, formerly of 124 Montague St., died Tuesday, April 6, 1999, in Twin Oakes Nursing Home, South Boston.
Born in Danville, she was the daughter of William G. Smith and Edna Hundley Smith.
She was a member of Mount Vernon United Methodist Church.
Survivors include one sister, Nell R. Smith of South Boston; and one brother E.T. Smith Sr. of Halifax.
A private graveside service was held 11 a.m. Friday, April 9, in Green Hill cemetery with the Rev. Jay Ashby officiating.

Berry Gibson
SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Berry Hughes Gibson, 80, of 12432 Pomerado Place in San Diego, Calif. died Sunday, April 4, 1999.
Born Sept. 22, 1918 in Danville, Va., he was the son of John Wilson Gibson and Hettie Page Powell Gibson.
He was a graduate of VPI&SU. Mr. Gibson was a retired engineer from Convair and the Navy Civil Service. He served as a flight instructior in the RCAF and a pilot in the United States Army Air Force during World War II.
Mr. Gibson is survived by his wife of 60 years, Catherine Burton Gibson of the residence, a daughter Page; a granddaughter, Meredith, a great-granddaughter, Hannah, all of California; a niece, Martha Terry Melvin of Chatham, Va.; a great niece, Page Melvin Sydnor of Lynchburg, Va.; a great-great nephew, Nathaniel Terry Sydnor of Lynchburg; and a sister-in-law, Laura Motley Bryant of Danville.
Services will be held at Fort Rosecrans at a date to be announced. The family suggests that memorials be made to Alzheimer's research or a charity of choice.
