Alice Eubank
DANVILLE, Va. - Alice Cantrell Eubank, 75, of 244 Alpine Drive, died Monday, April 19, 1999, at her residence after five years of declining health.
Born Nov. 17, 1923, in Spartanburg, S.C., she was the daughter of Ruth Cantrell.
She was married
to William Edward Eubank Jr., who predeceased her Nov. 5, 1972.
She lived most of her life in Danville where she was a member of Rivermont Baptist Church and the Telephone Pioneer Club. She was retired from C&P Telephone Company, where she was an operator.
Survivors include one son, George M. Eubank of Lake Charles, La.; and two grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. David Burch officiating. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Louise Joslin
DANVILLE, Va. - Louise Brockwell Joslin, 93, formerly of Dogwood Drive, died Monday, April 19, 1999, at Riverside Healthcare Center.
She was born in Raleigh, N.C., the daughter of the late Mildred Bagwell and Sherwood Battle Brockwell.
She graduated from Meredith College in 1927, and continued her studies at Columbia University and later at the University of Virginia. In 1947, she moved to Danville where she taught history, English and music at various regional schools. She was active in numerous civic and cultural organizations in Danville, including the Music Study Club, of which she was president, the Wednesday Club, of which she was program chairman, and the Wayside Garden Club. She attended Epiphany Episcopal Church.
She is survived by her husband, Asher Langdon Joslin; her daughter, Mary Louise Joslin Sexton who is known by her professional name, Emyl Jenkins; a grandson, Langdon Jenkins of Altanta, Ga., and a granddaughter, Joslin Jenkins Hultazapple of Richmond.
A graveside service will be held in historic Oakwood cemetery in Raleigh today at 2 p.m.

Annie Kirby
HALIFAX, Va. - Annie Mildred Moorefield Kirby, 74, of 3067 L.P. Bailey Memorial Highway died Tuesday, April 20, 1999, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born June 23, 1924, in Halifax County, she was the daughter of Eugene Jackson Moorefield and Irene Ferrell Moorefield.
She was married
to Edward Kirby.
She was a member of Childrey Baptist Church.
Survivors include two step-children; two sisters, Virginia M. Brown and Cecile M. Cheek, both of Halifax; and two brothers, Walter J. Moorefield and Eugene G. Moorefield, both of Nathalie.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Mount Vernon Baptist Church cemetery with the Rev. Rodney Barwick and the Rev. John Wilder officiating.
The famiy will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. today at Powell Funeral Home.
Marguerite Manning
CHATHAM, Va. - Marguerite Shields Manning, 81, of Oak Grove Lodge, died Monday, April 19, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born March 9, 1918, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Douglas Shields and Bessie Shields.
She was married
to Elton Mark Manning, who predeceased her.
She was a self-employed sitter until her retirement.
A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. today at the Atkinson Family cemetery on Spring Garden Road with the Rev. Claude Balley officiating.

Paul Parcell
MARTINSVILLE, Va. - Paul Lee Parcell, 75, of 1120 Douglas Ave., died Monday, April 19, 1999, at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville-Henry County.
Born Feb. 27, 1924, in Franklin County, he was the son of Alfred Lee Parcell and Roxie Bowles Parcell.
He retired from American Furniture Company after 45 years. He was a member of Chatmoss Baptist Church.
He was married
to Elsie Austin Parcell, who predeceased him in January.
Survivors include four daughters, Joan A. Martin of Fieldale, Joyce P. Walsh of Blairs and Bonnie P. Thompson and Barbara P. Shively, both of Martinsville; one son, Richard M. Amburn of Martinsville; one sister, Bernice Whitlow of Bassett; five brothers, Melvin Parcell of Martinsville and Buren Parcell, Hassell Parcell, James Parcell and Claude Parcell, all of Snow Creek; nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
He also was predeceased by one brother, Curtis Parcell.
A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at McKee-Stone Chapel with the Rev. Rodney Houston officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. today at McKee-Stone Chapel.
Willie Petty Sr.
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Willie Jeff Petty Sr., 68, died Monday April 19, 1999, at Duke Medical Center in Durham, N.C.
He was born May 21, 1930, in Halifax County.
Survivors include one daughter, Robin Petty of Raleigh, N.C.; one son, Willie Petty Jr. of Nathalie; one sister, Louise Brown of South Boston; two brothers, Leon Petty of South Boston and Steven Petty of Danville; and eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A funeral will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at County Line Baptist Church, Vernon Hill, with the Rev. Otis Dillard officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service.
The family will receive friends at the residence, 1207 Sinai Road, South Boston.

Ernest Rigney
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. - Ernest G. Rigney died Tuesday, April 20, 1999, at a local nursing home.
Born Oct. 11, 1914, in Chatham, Va., he was the son of Jesse T. Rigney and Minnie Allen Rigney.
He was married
to Katherine Shelton Rigney, who survives.
A high school graduate, he attended the Citadel. He was a member of Holmes Avenue Baptist Church, the exchange club of North Charleston and the Westvaco Retirement Association. He was a retired machine foreman with Westvaco.
In addition to his wife of North Charleston, survivors include one son, Dr. Ernest G. Rigney Jr. of North Charleston; three sisters, Maggie Dodd and Bertha Meadows, both of Chatham, Va., and Lena Oaks of Danville, Va.; and three brothers, Percy Rigney of Chatham, Va., Russell Rigney of Axton, Va., and Edward Rigney of Martinsville, Va.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Holmes Avenue Baptist Church. Burial will be in Carolina Memorial Gardens.

Walter Buchanan
YORKTOWN, Va. - Walter Allen "Buc" Buchanan died Monday, April 19, 1999, at his residence.
Born in Danville, he was the son of Bernard C. Buchanan of Clarksville and Lula F. Terry of Danville, who survive.
He was married
to Peggy Gibson Buchanan, who survives.
He was a native of Danville, moving to the Peninsula in 1961. In October of 1998, he retired from Anheuser Busch, where he worked as an engineer for 28 years.
He served in the U.S. Air Force and was a member of Deer Park Baptist Church. He was a member of the Anheuser Busch Running Club, the Penisula Running Club and was a former Boy Scout Leader.
In addition to his wife and parents, survivors include one son, John A. Buchanan of the residence; two sisters, Hilda B. Holt of Creedmore, N.C. and Lisa B. Hovater of Seaford; and two brothers, Larry M. Buchanan of Jacksonville, Fla. and Stephen W. Buchanan of Charlotte, N.C.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Deer Park Baptist Church with the Rev. Draa Thompson and the Rev. Bruce Springer officiating. Burial will be in Peninsula Memorial Park.

William "Bill" Farmer
BLAIRS, Va. - William "Bill" Thomas Farmer, 75, of 308 Blair Court, died Monday night, April 19, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Oct. 24, 1923, he was the son of Chesley Herman Farmer and Ara Vanessa Farmer.
He was married
March 5, 1981, to Lottie Weatherford Farmer, who survives.
He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served 21 years, retiring as a master sergeant first class. He was a member of the Morotock Masonic Lodge No. 210. He was of the Baptist Faith. He worked as a correction officer with the state of Virginia until his retirement.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include one son, Dean Farmer of Speedway, Ind.; two daughters, Nona Helms and Janet McIntire, both of Indianapolis, Ind.; two sisters, Florine Poteat of Danville, Va., and Mae Gross of Ashville, N.C.; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 1 p.m. Friday at Barker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Cleo Hundley officiating. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. today at the chapel and at other times his sister's residence, 363 Central Blvd.
