Glenn Holley
DANVILLE, Va. - J. Glenn Holley, 51, of 408 South Woodberry Avenue, passed away unexpectedly Thursday morning at his home. He was born on Sept. 27, 1951. He was raised in Pittsylvania County and moved to Danville after he married.
Glenn was a loving son to Linda Towler Holley Lence who passed away in July. He was a wonderful brother and best friend to his sister, Katie Holley Petrick.
On October 6, 1979, he married the former Gloria Ann Davis and she along with their three children, Lauren Grace, 18, Joshua Payne, 12, and Jacob Cameron, 10, considered him the light of their lives. He was a loving, wonderful and selfless husband and father. His footprints will forever be on all of our hearts.
Glenn will also be missed by his aunt and uncle, Phebe and Howard Brumfield and their children; his very bestest friends, Janis and David Puryear; his many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews and his lifelong friend, Dannie Adams.
A 1976 Graduate of VCU, he held degrees in Sociology, Psychology and Anthropology and did Graduate work at Hollins University. Glenn worked for over 27 years for Pittsylvania County, 16 as Director of Youth Services and 11 as the Director of the Data Processing Department.
He was a member of the Fresh Start Sunday School class at Mt. Hermon Baptist Church and Sunday School teacher at Moffett Memorial Baptist Church.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 30, at 2:00 p.m. at Moffett Memorial Baptist Church with the Reverend Steve Carlton, a dear friend of Glenn and Gloria's, presiding. The family will receive friends in the church parlor immediately following the service.

Ivy Jason Price Sr.
PELHAM, N.C. - Ivy Jason Price Sr., 88, of 1736 Newman Road, died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002, at his residence.
Born Dec. 13, 1913, in Chase City, Va., he was the son of Julious Washington Price Sr. and Zula Turner Price.
He had lived the past 40 years in the Pelham area and prior to his retirement, was a tobacco farmer. He was also employed with Dan River, Inc. for many years. He was of the Baptist faith.
He married Mary Lou Hoyle Price on Nov. 3, 1933. She predeceased him March 13, 1993.
He is survived by a daughter, Judy P. Staton of Ringgold, Va.; four sons, Ivy Jason Price Jr. of Pelham, Marlin Gene Price of Salem, Ore., Roger Glenn Price of Baltimore, Md. and Phil Price of Reidsville; two sisters, Vivian Price Gholson of Chase City, Va. and Myrtle Price Thompson of Petersburg, Va.; a brother, Jack Price of Petersburg, Va.; nine grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by two sons, Dallas Wayne Price and Randy Wayne Price; four sisters, Virlie Price, Sarah P. McGinnies, Mela P. McGinnies and Janie P. Lail; and four brothers, John Price, Chance Prince, Tifford Price and Julious Washington Price Jr.
The graveside funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Danville Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Mike Kent Sr. officiating.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Nat Pritchett, Jr.
DANVILLE, Va. - William Nathaniel "Nat" Pritchett, Jr., 63, 1452 Medical Center Rd., died Thursday, Nov. 28, 2002 in Danville Regional Medical Center Emergency Room.
Born Aug. 28, 1939, he was the son of William N. Pritchett, Sr., and Nellie Mae Durham Pritchett.
He had lived in Pittsylvania County until joining the U.S. Air Force. After his time in service he lived in Scotland for about seven years, working for Scottish Stamping, Scottish Aviation and AYR County council. After returning to Danville, he worked for the Disston Company until the Danville plant closed in 1994. He learned his machinist skills while working for Pertkinson Foundry. At the time of his death he was employed as a machinist with Columbia Forest Products.
He was a member of the Anderson Chapel United Methodist Church.
He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1960 until 1967, serving as a crew chief, second engineer of C54 aircraft, attaining the rank of E-5 Staff Sergeant.
In addition to his wife, Dorothy H. "Dottie" Pritchett, of the home, he is survived by his father; one son, William N. "Billy" Pritchett, III, of the home; a daughter, Wendy Dawn Pritchett of the home; two brothers, Aubrey R. Pritchett of Danville and Tyronne Hassell Pritchett of Perris, Calif.; and two sisters, Linda P. White of Sutherlin, and Patricia P. Cooper of Callands.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 1, at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with the Rev. Mark Wimmer officiating. Interment will follow in the Anderson Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery with military honors by American Legion Dan River Post 1097 Honor Guard.

Gene Satterfield
SUTHERLIN, Va. - Albert "Gene" Eugene Satterfield, 60, 769 Laurel Grove Rd., died Friday, Nov. 29, 2002 in the Stratford Health Care Center.
Born Sept. 21, 1942, he was the son of Atlas Eugene Satterfield and Ella Dodson Satterfield.
He had lived most of his life in the Laurel Grove community of Pittsylvania Co. He had retired from the Corning Corp. in October of 1998 after 34 years of service.
He was a member of Laurel Grove Baptist Church and he was a life member of the Laurel Grove Fire and Rescue Department where he had served as Assistant Chief and as Chief. He was selected as Fireman of the Year on numerous occasions and Fireman of the Decade for 1988-1998.
In addition to his wife, Sybil Elaine Jones Satterfield, of the residence, he is survived by two sons, Albert Eugene Satterfield of Sutherlin; and James Harold Satterfield of Bel Air, Md.; one daughter, Tracy Ann S. Barksdale of Sutherlin; and two sisters, Lucille S. Clark of South Boston, and Mary S. Eastwood of Sutherlin; and six grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 4 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2 at the Laurel Grove Baptist Church with Pastor Bill Owsley and Pastor Hylton Lawrence officiating. Interment will follow in the Laurel Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

Amy Barton
DANVILLE, Va. - Amy Elizabeth Barton, 26, of 135 Reuben Court, died Monday, June 3, 2002 at Danville Regional Medical Center following a battle with Scleroderma.
Born May 9, 1976 in Danville, she was the daughter of Edgar W. Barton and Virginia Doss Barton, who survive.
She was a member of the Scleroderma Foundation and of the Baptist faith. She lived all of her life in Danville and worked at Sears as a salesperson and was an honor graduate from George Washington High School, class of 1994.
She is survived, in addition to her parents of the residence, by one brother, Jeffrey W. Barton of Victoria.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Danville Memorial Gardens with Dr. Samuel Greeson officiating.
The family received friends 7-8 p.m. Tuesday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel and will receive friends at other times at the residence.

Rosanna Chaney
DANVILLE, Va. - Rosanna Chaney, 55, of 124 Fagan Street, died Monday, June 3, 2002 at her residence.
Born February 5, 1947 in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of James Henry Wise, who predeceased her, and Essie Mae Walker Wise, who survives.
She was married to Roosevelt Chaney, who predeceased her.
Survivors, in addition to her mother, include three daughters, Vivian Adams, Carolyn Chaney and Lisa Chaney, all of Danville; one son, Curtis Chaney of Danville; three sisters, Inez Anderson, Rosa Henry and Eyvone Crews, all of Danville; seven brothers, Robert Wise of Chatham, Joe Lewis Wise of Java, Willie Wise and Roy Wise, both of Danville, Moses Wise of Martinsville, Keith Wise of Ringgold and Alvin Wise of Cleveland, Ohio.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Calvin White officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Burial Park.

NEW YORK CITY, N.Y. - Willie A. Dixon Sr., 75, died April 20, 2002.
Born October 26, 1926 in Danville, he was a son of Louis and Ophelia Moorman Dixon.
He was married to Barbara Adams Dixon, who survives. He was a 1943 graduate of John M. Langston High School and of Virginia Commonwealth University. He served in the U.S. Army before retirement for Hatzlachn Supply and Electronics Import Co.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of New York, include two sons, the Rev. Willie A. Dixon of New York and David L. Dixon of Manassas, Va.; one daughter, Ophelia A. Dixon of Pittsburgh, Penn.; two brothers, Ernest Dixon of Atlanta, Ga. and Ottawa Dixon of San Diego, Calif.; and one sister, Sarah Price of Danville.
A memorial service was held April 25, 2002 at Antioch Baptist Church in New York City with the Rev. Dr. Alfloyd Alston officiating.

Velda Hall
RIDGEWAY, Va. - Velda Esther Odell Hall, 86, of 1381 Moores Mill Road, died Monday, June, 3, 2002 at Danville Regional Medical Center.
She was born Jan. 21, 1916 in Patrick County and was a daughter of the late Earnest Elbert Odell and the late Texas Martin Odell.
She had been married first to Frank Horsley, then to Edgar Stephen Ramsey and lastly to Nathan Henry Hall, who all predeceased her. She was retired after a number of years from the Henry County School System where she was a cook at Bassett High School Cafeteria. Mrs. Hall was a member of Martinsville Church of Truth.
Survivors include one son, Leon Ramsey and his wife Sylvia of Danville; three sisters, Lucille Lawless of Martinsville, Gladys Cardwell of Ridgeway and Dorothy Woods of Ferrum; one brother, Alvin Odell of Eden, N.C.; and two grandchildren, Stephen Ramsey and Ashley Ramsey, both of Danville.
She was predeceased, in addition to her parents and husbands, by one daughter, Mary Elizabeth Ramsey, two sisters, Goldie Hodges and Mamie Coleman, and three brothers, Harry Odell, Lemlie Odell and Cecil Odell.
The funeral will be held Thursday, June 6, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at Collins Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Joey Yeatts and the Rev. Phillip Woods officiating. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 7-8:00 p.m. at Collins Funeral Chapel.

Rosa Hancock
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Rosa Conner Hancock, 87, of 1058 Shepherd's Gate Road, died Tuesday, June 4, 2002 in Richmond.
Born March 9, 1915 in Halifax County, she was a daughter of Holt Easley Conner and Daisy Powell Conner.
She was retired from Star Laundry and a member of Glenwood United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Alice Tucker of Douglasville, Ga. and Nellie Phillips of Richmond; one son, Hubert Trent of Saxe; one sister, Lucille Moore of South Boston; one brother, Emery Conner of South Boston; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 11 p.m. Thursday at Brooks Funeral Home with the Rev. Jack Stewart officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.

Doris Jones
DANVILLE, Va. - Doris Mayhew Jones, 45, of 100 Carriage Hill Drive, died Tuesday, June 4, 2002 at Gretna Health Care following seven years of declining health.
Born April 12, 1957, she was a daughter of Percy Ramsey Mayhew, who survives, and Jerleen Ferguson Mayhew, who predeceased her.
She was marreid on September 15, 1996 to Kim David Jones, who survives. She lived her life in Danville and Pittsylvania County areas. Prior to her decline in health, she was employed with the Pluma Corporation as a secretary and receptionist. She was an active member of Shermont Baptist Church and served as choir leader, church secretary, taught Sunday school and was a member of the W.M.U. She graduated from Dan River High School in 1975.
Survivors, in addition to her husband of the residence and her father, include one brother, Donnie Wayne Mayhew of Danville; and one sister, Donna Mayhew Hankins of Danville.
The funeral will be held 12 p.m. Friday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. Bill Soyars officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Burial Park.

Ned Langston Logan
COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Ned Langston Logan, 68, of 5115 Mangum Road, died Saturday, June 1, 2002 at Regency Health Services Inc. in Forestville, Md.
Born Oct. 30, 1933 in Danville, he was a son of James Smith Logan and Hassie Tucker Logan.
He was a maintenance engineer for Hotel American in Washington D.C. and was a member of Union Street Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Steve A. Logan and Tony L. Logan, both of College Park; two daughters, Rita Kay Logan of Virginia Beach, Va. and Kathy H. Logan of Alexandria, Va.; one brother, Herbert Logan of Danville, Va.; and one sister, Iola L. Spinner of Danville, Va.
The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, at L.H. Brooks & Bros. Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Samuel Griffith officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Edward "Ed" Mays
BURLINGTON, N.C. - Edward "Ed" Harrison Mays Sr., 67, of 4423 N. NC 62, died Thursday, May 30, 2002 at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
Born in Surry County, he was a son of the late Early Paul Mays and the late Bessie Lenore Greenwood Mays.
He was married to Mary Ellen Hamlett Mays, who survives. They had just celebrated 46 years of marriage. He was retired from AT&T after 30 years and was the owner and operator for 11 years of E&E Sales. He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church and served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, Bible School Director and RA's leader. He was also active with Campers on Mission. He was a life member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and was a former Scoutmaster and Scout Institution Representative. He was a member of the Alamance-Caswell Hunt Club. He also was an auctioneer and a member of the Graham Lions Club.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of the residence, include two sons, Edward "Bud" Mays Jr and his wife, Julie of Burlington and Roger Lee Mays Sr. of Burlington; and one brother, Walter Paul Mays of Burlington.
He was predeceased, in addition to his parents, by one son, David Paul Mays, Sr., and six grandchildren, Misty Dawn Humphries, Edward Mays III, David Paul Mays, Jr., Matthew Curtis Mays, Roger Lee Mays, Jr. and Jessica Nicole Mays.
The funeral was held 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 3, 2002 at Fellowship Baptist Church with the Rev. Ken Simpson officiating. Interment followed at Alamance Memorial Park.

James "Jack" Mims
YANCEYVILLE, N.C. - James "Jack" Mims, 70, of 413 Melvin Wrenn Road, died June 2, 2002 at the residence.
Born in Caswell County, he was a son of John Mims and Matilda Mims.
He was married to Carmella Chalmers Mims, who survives.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of the residence, include three daughters, Melody M. Henderson of Ruffin, Phyllis M. Henderson and Jacqueline Mims, both of Yanceyville; one sister, Florine M. Shouffner of Greensboro; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was predeceased, in addition to his parents, by two sons, Kenneth W. Mims and Keith E. Mims, one brother, Theodore Mims, two sisters, Olivia Poole and Mary Adelaide Mims Blackwell, and one grandchild.
The funeral will be held 3 p.m. Thursday at Sassafras Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Carl Bigelow officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
