SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Susie Carr Cage, 83, 121 Meadow Drive, died Sunday, May 2, 1999, at Duke Medical Center in Durham, N.C.
She was born Oct. 31, 1915, in Halifax County.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Carrington of Frederick, Md., and Loretta Vass of South Boston.
A funeral will be held 3 p.m. Thursday at Banister Hill Baptist Church in Halifax, with the Rev. William Carr officiating. Burial will be in church cemetery.
A viewing will be held one hour prior to service.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Rhoderic Garner
HALIFAX, Va. - Rhoderic Filmore Garner, 78, of 1171 Hendricks Road, died Tuesday, May 4, 1999, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born Jan. 12, 1921, in Halifax County, he was the son of Joseph Frank Garner and Lucy Long Garner.
He was married
to Sallie McDaniel Garner, who predeceased him.
He was a member of McKendree United Methodist Church and a World War II Army veteran.
Survivors include four daughters, Joyce Garner Patrick, Meridena K. Carel, both of Halifax, Eva K. Lacks of Clover and Jeanette K. Brown of Halifax; two sisters, Nell Garner Guthrie of Nathalie and Betsy Garner Reese of Springfield; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was also predeceased by one grandson.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at McKendree United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tim Earnhardt officiating. Burial will be in church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. today at Powell Funeral Home and at other times at the residence of his daughter, Joyce Patrick, 7110 L.P. Bailey Highway.
William Grosch
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - William Anson Grosch, 82, of 308 Dunncroft Court, died Tuesday, May 4, 1999, at his residence.
Born Sept. 14, 1916, in Bronx, N.Y., he was the son of William Grosch and Vera Anson Grosch.
He was married
to Vivian H. Watts Grosch, who survives.
He was a retired salesman for Weyerhuser Company. He was a member of Shady Grove United Methodist Church and a former member of The Lions Club in New York, Long Island Salesmen Association and the Cluster Springs Ruritan Club.
In addition to his wife of South Boston, survivors include one son, William Neil Grosch of Albany, N.Y.; one daughter, Virginia Ann Kowalski of Huntington, N.Y.; one sister, Vera DeAugustinis of Ossing, N.Y.; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Shady Grove United Methodist Church in Virgilina, with the Rev. Don Davidson officiating. Burial will be in church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. today at Brooks Funeral Home and at other times at the residence.
Jesse "Red" Hammock
DANVILLE, Va. - Jesse W. "Red" Hammock, 78, formerly of 440 Henry St., died Tuesday morning, May 4, 1999, at Piney Forest Health Care Center.
Born April 14, 1921, in the Schoolfield community of Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Berkely Ward Hammock and Mollie Tolor Hammock.
He was married
to Sallie Hammock Hammock, who survives.
He made his home on Henry Street for the past 38 years. He was employed by the City of Danville Electric Department and was of the Holiness faith.
In addition to his wife of Piney Forest Health Care Center, survivors include three sons, Kenneth Michael Hammock, John Ward Hammock and Bruce Wayne Hammock, all of Danville; three brothers, Franklin Otis Hammock and Bobby Gene Hammock, both of Danville and Norman Allen Hammock of Gretna; and one grandchild.
He was predeceased by one sister, Lillia Thomas; and one brother, Floyd Hammock.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Greenfield Baptist Church cemetery, near Gretna, with the Rev. Kendall Jenkins officiating.

Larry Brooks
CHATHAM, Va. - Larry Wayne Brooks, 52, of 289 Cooksburg Road, died Tuesday, May 4, 1999, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Jan. 14, 1947, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Clyde W. Brooks Sr., who survives, and Christine Rowland Brooks.
He was married
to Brenda Osborne Brooks, who survives.
He was a member of New Bethel Church of the Brethren. He was a veteran of the United States Army, an employee of BGF and a carpenter.
In addition to his father of Chatham, and wife of the residence, survivors include one son, Gregg Brooks of the residence; two daughters, Wendy Bonnell and Marsha Brooks, both of the residence; six brothers, Clyde W. Brooks Jr. of Danville, Danny Brooks of Gretna, Mike Brooks, Ricky Brooks, Tim Brooks and Jeff Brooks, all of Chatham; two sisters, Linda Mayhew of Chatham and Lisa Brooks of Gretna.
He was predeceased by a brother, James Brooks.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. today at New Bethel Church of the Brethen with the Rev. Dr. Alvery Parr and the Rev. Curtis English officiating. Burial will be in the Wagner family cemetery.

Wilfred "Will" Cundiff
HARDY, Va. - Wilfred Harry (Will) Cundiff, 73, died Tuesday, May 4, 1999.
Born April 30, 1926, he was the son of Joseph Harry and Fannie Kate Mattox Cundiff.
He was married
to Claudia Cundiff, who predeceased him, and later to Doreene H. Cundiff, who survives.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include one daughter, Sybil Phillips of Greensboro, N.C.; four sons, Kenneth Cundiff of the residence, Mitchell Cundiff of Washington state, Gene Caldwell of Atlanta, Floyd Caldwell of Danville; three sisters, Reba Holland and Mabel Smith, both of Glade Hill, and Mamie McGhee of Hurt; four brothers, Ford Cundiff and E.D. Cundiff, both of Rocky Mount; his twin brother Alfred Cundiff of Norfolk, and Posey Cundiff of Penhook; and five grandchildren.
In addition to his first wife, he was predeceased by three sisters, three brothers and one son, Michael Cundiff.
A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Lynch Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Larry Holland and Chaplain Gene Burris officiating. Burial will be in Mountain View Memorial Park.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. today. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Inez Fox
DANVILLE, Va. - Inez Brown Fox, 86, formerly of 1119 North Main St., died Tuesday, May 4, 1999, in Piney Forest Health Care Center after four years of declining health.
Born Dec. 15, 1912, in Danville, she was the daughter of Alvin W. Brown and Nellie Collie Brown.
She was married
Dec. 12, 1954 to Walter H. Fox, who predeceased her Jan. 24, 1969.
She had lived all her life in Danville and was employed by the former Hodnett & Speer Jewelery Store for 43 years prior to her sudden health problems. He was a member of Moffett Memorial Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sisters, Elizabeth B. Hinton of Martinsville, Dorothy B. Stanfield of Opelika, Ala. and Charlotte B. Gray of Danville.
She was predeceased by one brother, Leon T. Brown.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Lee Ellison officiating.
The family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 p.m. at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel and at other times at the residence of her sister Charlotte Gray, 216 Oakmont Trail in Fox Hollow.
Audrey Jones
DANVILLE, Va. - Audrey Barker Jones, 76, of 2526 North Main St., died Tuesday, May 4, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center after eight years of declining health. She had been in Roman Eagle Memorial Home for two years.
Born Dec. 19, 1922, in Danville, she was the daughter of Charlie William Barker and Annie Townsend Barker.
She was married
July 14, 1951, to William Ernest Jones, who predeceased her Dec. 22, 1984.
She lived her life in Danville, Reidsville, N.C., and Middletown, Del. She was a homemaker and was of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include one son, William R. Jones of Middletown, Del.; one daughter, Robin Jones Woomer of Gansevoort, N.Y.; one sister, Mildred Barker of Danville; and three grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. today at Mizpah United Methodist Church cemetery, Reidsville, N.C. with the Rev. Bill Roberts officiating.

Terry Reynolds
CALLANDS, Va. - Robert Terry Reynolds, 46, of 645 Barn Road, died Tuesday, May 4, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born March 3, 1953, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of the late Robert Edwin Reynolds and Nannie Kendrick Reynolds of Callands, who survives.
He was married
to Connie Mabe Reynolds, who survives.
He worked with Sprint Communications for 26 years in the engineering department. He was a member of County Line Christian Church.
In addition to his mother and his wife of the residence, survivors include two sons, Joshua Matthew Reynolds and Nicholas Adam Reynolds, both of the residence; three sisters, Janice Reynolds Doss of Danville, Betty Reynolds McDaniel of Martinsville, and Joyce Reynolds Mahan of Danville; two brothers, Wesley H. Reynolds and Jackie E. Reynolds, both of Axton.
He was predeceased by one brother, Danny G. Reynolds.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. today at County Line Christian Church, Henry County, with Dean Ashby, Minister, and J.D. Hunt III, Minister, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
