Wavor Yeatts
DANVILLE, Va. - Wavor Davis Yeatts, 80, formerly of 123 James Road, died Wednesday, May 5, 1999, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home after a five-year stay at the nursing home and eight years of declining health.
Born June 28, 1918, in the Markham community of Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Wilson Davis and Annie Forlain Davis.
She was married
to Milbourne Leroy Yeatts, who predeceased her Jan. 15, 1986.
She made her home on Park Avenue for many years before moving to James Road to live with her daughter when her health failed. She was a member of Riverview Baptist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher for many years. She worked for Dan River, Inc. for 30 years in the spinning room.
Survivors include two daughters, Joan Davis of West Columbia, S.C. and Lucille Stroud of Danville; five sisters, Eula Hines of Dry Fork, Garnett Hines, Myrtle Nunn, Ruby McCormick and Adelaide Lester, all of Danville; one brother, Richard Davis of Lynchburg; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by three brothers Wilson Davis, Otis Davis and Walter Davis.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Samuel Greeson, the Rev. William Blalock and the Rev. Duane Blevins officiating. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
William Younger
DANVILLE, Va. - William Garland Younger, 64, of 657 Berryman Ave., died Sunday, May 2, 1999, at his residence.
Born Jan. 22, 1935, he was the son of Willie Younger and Frances Oliver Younger Moorefield, who survives.
He was married
to Catherine Bruce Younger, who survives.
He was employed as a truck driver for Pittsylvania Hardware and later with Wyatt Hardware until his retirement.
In addition to his mother of Ringgold, and his wife of Danville, survivors include three daughters, Jacqueline L. Younger, Angela K. Younger and Nancy Beck, all of Danville; one son, William Garland Younger Jr. of Charlotte, N.C.; two brothers, Holland Younger of Washington, D.C. and Clyde Younger of Blairs.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Friday at New Mine Creek Progressive Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Bernard Bolton officiating. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at 1011 West Stokes Street.

Clarine Fitzgerald
CHATHAM, Va. - Clarine Fitzgerald, 73, of 527 North Main St., died Tuesday, May 4, 1999, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Jan. 5, 1926, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Rebecca Marr. She was married
to Morris Fitzgerald, who predeceased her.
She was of the Baptist faith, and was retired from Bassett-Walker.
Survivors include eight sons, John W. Fitzgerald, Franklin D. Fitzgerald, and Ray A. Fitzgerald, all of Chatham, Toy Fitzgerald of Akron, Ohio, Henry L. Fitzgerald of Virginia Beach, Kenneth S. Fitzgerald of Dallas, Walter Fitzgerald of Kileen, Texas, and Mark I. Fitzgerald of Danville; two daughters, Rebecca Kelly of Piscataway, N.J., and Jeanette Price of Chatham; two sisters, Martha Fitzgerald and Ester Anderson, both of Chatham; 29 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday from Cherrystone Missionary Baptist Church by Rev. Floyd Jones. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. today at Howerton Funeral Home, and at other times at the residence.
James Graves
DANVILLE, Va. - James R. Graves, 77, of 246 Camp Grove Place, died Wednesday, May 5, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
He was born May 11, 1921 in Pittsylvania County, a son of Charlie Ross Graves and Verga Sydnor Graves.
He was married
to Bessie Bowman Graves, who predeceased him. He was employed by Pugh Roofing Company for many years prior to his retirement.
Survivors include three daughters, Betty Roach and Patricia Williamson, both of Danville, and Doris Meban of Washington, D.C.; three sons, Herman Bowman of Washington, D.C., Billy Graves of Greensboro, N.C., and William Graves of Temple Hill, Md.; five sisters, Catherine Younger of Java, Mary Graves, Shirley Kates and Juanita Dodson, all of Washington, D.C., and Sarah Goodwine of Maryland; four brothers, George Graves, Edward Graves, Clarence Graves and Charlie Graves Jr., all of Danville.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Oak Grove Baptist Church in Blairs with the Rev. Ralph Cypress officiating. Interment
will follow in Highland Burial Park.
Tha family will receive friends at the home of his daughter, Betty Roach, 1450 Myrtle Ave.

James Meadows
DANVILLE, Va. - Jimmy "James" Franklin Meadows, 58, of 3301 Old Richmond Road, died Thursday, May 6, 1999, in Danville Regional Medical Center, after several years of declining health.
He had been in the hospital for five days.
Born July 26, 1940, in Danville, he was the son of Fred Meadows and Edith Scearce Meadows.
He had lived all of his life in Pittsylvania County and Danville. He had worked as a long haul truck driver until his retirement due to health reasons. He was of the Baptist faith.
He was first married
to Shirley Watlington Meadows. On June 24, 1985, he married
Linda Ruth Oliver Meadows, who survives.
Survivors in addition to his wife of the residence include one daughter, Donna M. Rickman of Danville; one step-son, Tony Baggarly of Danville and five other step-children by his second marriage; and two grandchildren.
He was predeceased by one brother, Butch Meadows.
A memorial service will be conducted from the graveside, Saturday at 2 p.m., by the Rev. Robert Vermillion. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Leroy Swann
DANVILLE, Va. - Leroy Swann, 48 of 321 Keen St., in Danville died Monday, May 3, 1999 in the Veteran's Hospital in Durham, N.C.
Born March 8, 1951, in Person County, he was the son of Jack Swann and Louise Swann.
He was educated in the Halifax County public school system and was a member of Mount Olive Baptish Church in Semora, N.C. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his mother, Louise Swann of Alton; one sister, Rohelia McCain of Milton, N.C.; one brother, Larry Swann of Alton; three children, Leroy Swann Jr. of Milton, N.C., Katrina Barksdale of Yanceyville, N.C., Christopher McDougal of South Boston.
The funeral will be held at noon Saturday, at the Mount Olive Baptist Church in Semora, N.C., with the Rev. Preston Medley officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from noon to 8 p.m. at the Plenty Funeral Home Chapel.
Louise Tune
HALIFAX, Va. - Louise Borum Tune, 83, of the Chastian Home, died Thursday, May 6, 1999, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born in Amelia County on June 4, 1915, she was the daughter of Joseph Witt Borum and Sallie Farley Borum.
She was married
to E. Kester Tune.
She was an active member of Mount Zion Baptist Church, where she served as adult Sunday school teacher and was a deaconess for many years. She was with the Virginia Cooperative Extension Service for 27 years, a member of the American Home Economics Association, and served as president of the Virginia Home Demonstration Agents. She was a member of Eqsidon Sigma Phi, and she received the Distinguished Service Award from the Home Economics Association. After retirement she was a member of the Halifax County Club and the Halifax Women's Club.
Survivors include three sisters, Virginia B. Chenault of Hanover, Myrtle B. Bradley of Nathalie and Ann B. Reames of Amelia; and one brother, James M. "Buster" Borum of Rice.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Willie Witt Borum and Harvey Borum.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Joseph I. Willis and the Rev. Cecil Tune conducting the service. Burial will be in Halifax Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home 7-8:30 p.m. today, and at other times at the home of her sister, Myrtle Bradley, 3013 Slick Rock Road, Nathalie.
Deaconess Ruby Jackson
VERNON HILL, Va. - Deaconess Ruby Ferrell Jackson, 76, died Thursday, May 6, 1999, at Twin Oaks Convalescent Home in South Boston.
Born Dec. 18, 1922, in Halifax County, Va.
Survivors include two daughters Susie Stephens of Danville and Dorothy Moore of Clinton, Md.; two sons Edward Jackson Jr. of South Boston and Wilie Jackson of Vernon Hill; one brother, Albailey Ferrell; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at New Vernon Baptist Church with the Rev. Roger Ford and the Rev. Arthur Crews officiating. Burial will be in church cemetery. There will be a viewing one hour prior to the service.

WASHINGTON - Eleanor Grant Lovelace, 56, of 3330 Dubois Place, formerly of Gretna, Va., died Wednesday night, May 5, 1999, in Greater South East Community Hospital in Washington, D.C.
Born March 9, 1943, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Virginia Grant Keatts, who survives, and Eddie H. Grant.
She was married
to Harry R. Lovelace, who predeceased.
She was employed by the Environmental Protective Agency, in D.C., and was a member of Central Baptist Church.
In addition to her mother of Gretna, survivors include one son Cory R. Lovelace of the residence; one sister Jo Ann Luck of Gretna; two brothers Wendell Grant of Gretna and Michael Grant of Lynchburg, Va.; her step-father Isaac Keatts of Gretna; two step-brothers Calvin Keatts of Richmond, Va., and Stanley Keatts of Virginia Beach, Va.;
In addition to her husband, she was also predeceased by one brother Eddie H. Grant Jr.
A funeral will be noon Monday at the Chapel of Miller Funeral Home with the Rev. George Gilbert officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Baptist Church cemetery.

Marie Mease
GRETNA, Va. - Marie Younger Mease, 61, of 2373 West Gretna Road, died Thursday, May 6, 1999, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born March 6, 1938, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Harry Younger and Mary Hutchings Younger.
She was married
to Paul Mease, who survives.
At an early age, she joined the Fairview Baptist Church and was a homemaker.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include two brothers Gene Younger of Philadelphia and Edwin Younger of New Jersey.
She was predeceased by one brother, Joseph Billy Younger.
A funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Monday at Chapel of Miller Funeral Home with the Rev. B.I. Baize officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 6-7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and at other times at the residence.
