Lettie Rodenhizer
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Lettie Evans Rodenhizer, called "Peggy" by most of her friends and family, was born May 12, 1908, on a farm in Pittsylvania County, the eighth of 11 children of Isaac and Virginia Evans. She was a teenager when the family moved to Danville, where she spent most of her life.
She married
Samuel K. Rodenhizer (Rodie) in 1927 and they celebrated more than 63 years together before his death in January 1991. Many will remember her as Mrs. Rodie during the years that the two of them owned and operated the original Rodies Soda Shoppe on Kemper Road.
Shortly after her husband's death she moved to Charlottesville, where she spent the remainder of her life. She died peacefully in her sleep on May 10, 1999, at Winterhaven Assisted Living in Charlottesville, two days before her 91st birthday.
She is survived by one sister, Edna Evans of Roman Eagle Memorial Home; one son, Gareth L. Rodenhizer of Fredericksburg; one daughter, Rachel M. Rodenhizer of Charlottesville; two grandchildren, Susan C. Womack of Richmond and the Rev. Samuel M. Rodenhizer of Port Ewen, N.Y.; five great grandchildren and one great-great grandson.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 12, 1999, at Hinton Avenue United Methodist Church in Charlottesville with the Rev. Edward A. Hopkins officiating. A graveside service will follow at 4 p.m. at Highland Burial Park in Danville. Memorial services there will be conducted by her grandson, the Rev. Samuel M. Rodenhizer.

David Saunders
DANVILLE, Va. - David Brian Saunders, 39, of 2300 Halifax Road, died Sunday, May 9, 1999, in the emergency room of Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Feb. 3, 1960, in Danville, he was the son of James William Saunders Jr. and Janet Wilson Saunders Adkins, both of whom survive.
He served in the United States Navy. He lived all of his life in Pittsylvania County. He worked in construction as a self-employed sheet rock hanger. He was of the Methodist faith.
In addition to his mother of Danville and father of Ringgold, survivors include his fiancee, Denise Hardison of Danville; his step-father, Jimmy Adkins of Danville; his step-mother, Linda D. Saunders of Ringgold; one sister, Judith S. Lowe of Ringgold.; two brothers, John K. Saunders and Mark A. Saunders, both of Ringgold.
He was predeceased by one brother James William (Jamey) Saunders III.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Doug Barber and the Rev. Robert Vermillion officiating. Burial will be in Flora Hills Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Wrenn Yeatts North Main Chapel, and at other times at the residence of his mother, Janet W. Adkins, 750 Vicar Road.
Elizabeth White
GLENDALE, Ariz. - Elizabeth Etrulia White, 87, died Thursday, May 6, 1999.
She was born in Danville, Va.
Survivors include one sister, Maria E. Webster of Phoenix.
A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Southern Baptist Church, Glendale.
A visitation will be one hour prior to service.
Vera Williams
DANVILLE, Va. - Vera Eudy Williams, 75, of 720 Tuscarora Drive, died Sunday, May 9, 1999, at her residence.
Born Jan. 17, 1924, in Danville, she was the daughter of Oscar Dewey Eudy and Katie Ramsey Eudy.
She was married
to Reginald Jean Williams, who predeceased her in May 15, 1974.
She lived most of her life in Danville and was a graduate of Stuart's Circle Hospital School of Nursing. She was a registered nurse for over 50 years and was employed with the Danville Memorial Hospital as recovery room supervisor until 1984, and later employed with Commonwealth Home Health Care Center until her retirement in 1998. She was a member of the Hospital Retiree's Club.
Survivors include one son, Reginald J. Williams Jr. of Richmond; one daughter, Dianne W. Morris of Roxboro, N.C.; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday from Townes Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Freddie Vicks officiating. Interment
will be Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home and at other times at the residence.
Frank Conner
CLOVER, Va. - Frank Moses Lee Conner, 58, of 2182 Clover Road, died Tuesday, May 11, 1999, at his residence.
Born Feb. 10, 1941, in Halifax County, Va., he was the son of Frank Conner and Hannah Clay Hudson, who survive.
He was retired from English Construction Company.
In addition to his mother of Clover and father of Roxboro, N.C., survivors include two sons Tony Lee Conner of South Boston, and Dwayne Eddie Conner of Clover; two sisters Barbara Allen Newcomb of Clover and Wanda M. Lacks of South Boston, ; five brothers Jerry Wayne Conner of Henderson, N.C., Darrel Warren Conner of Halifax, Micky Mantle Conner and Ricky M. Conner, both of Danville and Marshal Monroe Hudson of Cluster Springs; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers Danny Hudson and Robert Hudson.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Brooks Funeral Home with the Rev. Ricky L. Bibee officiating. Burial will be in Clover cemetery, Clover.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home and at other times at the home of Hannah Hudson, Clover.
Garfield Oliver
DANVILLE, Va. - Garfield Oliver, 80, of 614 Boswell St., died Saturday, May 8, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born May 18, 1918, he was the son of Les Oliver and Fannie Barksdale.
He was married
to Lula Mae Pickett Oliver, who predeceased him.
Survivors include eight daughters, Ellen Oliver and Virginia Orange, both of Danville, Mattie Mae Oliver of Haw River, N.C., Judy Oliver Jones and Paulette Walton, both of Milton, N.C., Jeanette Oliver of Burlington, N.C., Lorine Wood of Elon College, N.C., and Corine Oliver of Reidsville; one sister, Gladys Garland of Roxboro, N.C.; 28 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at White Rock Baptist Church in Mountain Hill with the Rev. Curtis Strader officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Raenell Schmidt
REDGRANITE, Wis. Raenell L. Schmidt, age 63, of Regranite, WI, formerly of Danville, Va., died suddenly Monday afternoon, May 10, 1999, at the Berlin Memorial Hospital in Berlin, Wis.
She was born July 13, 1935, in Honolulu, Hawaii, the daughter of Raymond and Nell Snead Andrews. She married
Robert W. Schmidt Nov. 28, 1970, Bob survives.
Raenell lived in Hawaii with her family until she was three years old. At that time, her father, who served in the United States Military was transferred back to the States. Raenell lived in Arlington and Danville, Virginia. She had lived in Falls Church, Virginia, until she and her husband, Bob moved to Redgranite, WI., in 1971.
Raenell had attended the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Redgranite. She was a member and Past-President of the Redgranite Women's Club; a member of the Redgranite P.T.O. and a volunteer at the Redgranite Elementary School. She was a Girl Scout Leader, and had bowled for many years in the Redgranite Women's Bowling League. She owned and operated Raenell's Ceramic Shop in Redgranite, WI for many years.
Raenell was a very loving and caring person. She was always more than willing to help others-young and old. If they needed help at the Redgranite School, Raenell would go and help. She was very happy to be a Girl Scout Leader.
Christmas was special to her because she liked to make and give things to the less fortunate. She loved flowers and bird watching, but her biggest enjoyment was watching her kids and grandkids play sports. She would attend as many games as possible, and you could hear her cheering in the stands. She was always helping children, her own foster kids and any child that needed a helping hand.
Survivors include her husband of almost 29 years, Bob; her sons, Andy (Terri) Adkins and Allen (Jenny) Schmidt, both of Oshkosh; her daughters Roxie (Richard) Adams of Danville, Va., Sara Harris of Durham, North Carolina, Janice (Michael) Frazier of Waupaca, WI, and Bernice "Sissy" (Doug) Duchac of Tomahawk, WI; her 13 grandchildren, Brandie Henke, who is living with Raenell and Bob, Laura, Paige, Christie, Jackie, Courtney, Katie, Andy Jr., Caine, Luke, Tyler, Peter and Justin; a foster son, Fred (Ann) Lang of Amhurst; a special nephew, Steven "Schmidtlap" Schmidt of Neehah, WI; a special friend, Sandy Adamson of Redgranite, WI. Raenell is also survived by her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jacki (Howie) Wagner of Hot Spring, Ark., Beverly (Joseph) Hetzel of Bettendoft, Iowa, Daine Avery of Landover, Maryland, Patricia (Whity) Martin of Berlin, WI., Priscella "Penny" Puhl, Carol (Ted) Boquist, and Victor (Vick) Schmidt, all of Oshkosh, WI, and Mike (Cindy) Schmidt of Spotsylvania, Va., nieces, nephews, and other relatives and many friends.
She was predeceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services for Mrs. Raenell L. Schmidt will be held Friday, May 14th at 11:00 a.m. at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Redgranite, WI. The Rev. Dorothy Heckner-Mendonca will officiate. Burial will be in the Foster Road cemetery, Redgranite. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Ruminiski Funeral Home in Redgranite and at the Church from 10:00 a.m. to 1l:00 a.m. Friday.

Hazel Tate
DANVILLE, Va. - Hazel Trout Tate, of 229 Belaire Drive, died unexpectedly Tuesday morning, May 11, 1999, in the emergency room at the Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born May 24, 1927, in Roanoke, Va., she was the daughter of James E. Trout and Annie Hudddelston Trout.
She was married
June 26, 1948, to Nelson O. Tate, who survives.
She had been a resident of Danville for over 50 years and worked for the Danville Memorial Hospital for 29 years until her retirement in 1989. She was a member of College Park Baptist Church, the Hospital Retirees Club and the Dan River Retirees Club.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include two sons Nelson O. Tate Jr. and Eugene A. Tate, both of Danville; two daughters Kathy Gilbert of Danville and Michelle Rowell of Baltimore; two brothers Douglas R. Trout of Roanoke and James E. Trout of Roanoke; one sister Virginia T. Chastian of Roanoke; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Townes Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Jim Hewitt officiating. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.

Donnie Clements
GRETNA, Va. - Donnie Jeremy Clements, 17, of 317 Marina Drive, died Sunday night, May 9, 1999, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Born Feb. 1, 1982, in Lynchburg, Va., he was the son of the late Samuel Perkins and Lona Clements who survives.
He was a 10th-grade student at Gretna Senior High School.
In addition to his mother of the residence, survivors include one sister, Debra Pannell of Fort Benning, Ga.
A funeral will be 1 p.m. Friday at the Chapel of Miller Funeral Home with the Rev. William Peerman officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olive Baptist Church cemetery.

Lizzie Felts
DANVILLE, Va. - Lizzie Staton Felts, 84, of 213 Staton Drive, died Wednesday, May 12, 1999, in Roman Eagle Memorial Home after declining in health for the past five years.
Born May 10, 1915, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Henry H. Staton and Nizzie Barker Staton.
She was married
Dec. 24, 1934, to Jesse Holden Felts, who survives.
She lived all of her life on Staton Drive in the Ringgold community of Pittsylvania County. She was a homemaker and a charter member of Lakewood Evangelical Methodist Church where she was a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class which was formerly the Berean Sunday School Class for over 60 years.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include a daughter, Lizzie Ann Felts of the residence; two sons, Jesse H. Felts Jr. of Danville and Charles J. Felts of Richmond; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by one daughter, Ella Felts Parker; three brothers and one sister.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday, at Lakewood Evangelical Methodist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Burks officiating. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
