Jerome Dapple McFall
DANVILLE, Va. - Mr. Jerome Dapple McFall, 83, of 419 Franklin St. died at 1:45 a.m. Friday, May 14, 1999, at Stratford House after a lengthy illness.
Born Oct. 15, 1917, he was the son of George McFall and Elouise McFall.
He was married
to Evelyn Long McFall of the residence for 60 years.
He worked for The Danville Register & Bee for 35 years until he retired. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, and he was a faithful member of New Hope Apostolic Church where he was a honary deacon.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include two brothers, George McFall of Philadelphia, and Eddie McFall of Cleveland; two sisters, Mattie L. Royal and Delores F. Green, both of Richmond, Va.; three sons, James E. McHall, the Rev. Raymon R. McFall and his wife Jean, and Allen McFall, all of Danville; three daughters, Betty J. Smith, Patricia Swann and her husband Clyde, of Danville, and Sylvia McFall of Boston; nine granddaughters, Jamie Harper, Lisa Tarpley, Wendy McFall, Phyllis A. Noble, Pernessa McCain and her husband McCain Elbert, Robin Dabney McFall, Shereen E. Smith, Swannica Swann, and Claysha McFall, all of Danville; eight grandsons, Curtis Mendenhall, Alan McFall, James E. McFall II, Michael McFall and June Phillip Smith and his wife Judy Smith, Jeffery McFall, and Jerry Hall III, all of Danville, and Timothy McFall of Boston, Mass.; one adopted daughter, Gloria Adams of Danville; 25 great-grandchildren; and special friends Emma Martin and Sylvia Long, and a host of other relatives and friends who loved him dearly.
He was predecased by one grandson, Kirk Wesley Hall.
A funeral will be held Tuesday, May 18, 1999, at 10 a.m. New Hope Apostolic Church with Bishop Major Hairston officiating. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
A viewing will be 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at Beavers Funeral Home.

Robert Russell Neely
LYNCHBURG, Va. - Robert Russell Neely, 93, of Westminister-Canterbury, 501 VES Rd., died Friday, May 14, 1999, in the Drinkard Health Care Center. He is survived by his wife of sixty-eight years, Grace Jamerson Neely and a nephew, Russell Blackburn of Pamplin, Va..
Born in Pamplin, Dec. 24, 1905, a son of the late Robert James Neely and Edith Bison Neely. Mr. Neely attended Danville Military Institute; was a 1928 graduate of Hampden-Sydney College and received his master's degree from the University of Virginia.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Lynchburg and was actie in many civic and church organizations. He was past member and president of the Exchange Club, a former member of the Danville Chapter of the American Red Cross, past president of Roman Eagle Memorial Home, a former elder and member of First Presbyterian Church in Danville, a lifelong member of Sigma Chi and was retired from Danville Coca-Cola Bottling Company having served as treasurer and business manager for many years.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, May 17, 1999 at Elon Baptist Church, Pamplin, with the Rev. James G. Thompson and the Rev. Steve Tyree officiating. A graveside service will be held in Pamplin Community Cementery immediately following the memorial service.
The family suggests that memorials be made to the Westminister-Canterbury Fellowship Endowment Fund.

Hobert Owens Jr.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Hobert Herman Owens Jr., 46, died Thursday, May 13, 1999.
Born Sept. 7, 1952, he was the son of Hobert Herman Owens Sr. and Eleanor Halpine Owens.
He was a lifelong resident of Jacksonsville, a member of First Baptist Church of Garden City and a truck driver for Prime Incorporated.
In addition to his mother, survivors include three sisters, Cynthia Owens of Danville, Va., Emily Sue Johnson of Yulee and Teresa Ann Dalager of Middleburg; two brothers, Steven Lawrence Owens and Frank Andrew Owens, both of Jacksonville.
A funeral will be held 10 a.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church of Garden City with the Rev. Doyle Harper officiating. Burial will be Riverside Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends 2-5 p.m. today at George H. Hewell and Son Northside Funeral Home.
Almeda Robinson
THOROFARE, N.J. - Almeda McCown Robinson, 57, of Gretna, Va., died Friday evening at her daughter's home.
A coalminer's daughter, she was born in the mountains of Wayland, Ky. Her parents, Tenbrook and Alphaleda Wallace McGown moved to Penns Grove, N.J. while she was a small girl. She attended Penns Grove schools and following graduation, she moved to Pennsville, N.J..
She married
Wendell H. Robinson Sr. and they made their home in Woodstown, N.J. until moving in 1993 to their retirment property in Gretna, Va. While living in the community in the foothills of the Blue Ridge mountains, she enjoyed bird watching, helping with the farm chores and looking forward to the visits and vacations on their farm with the grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Shirley Robinson of Gretna, and Sue Thom of Thorofare, N.J.; two sons, Wendell H. Robinson Jr. of Woodstown, N.J. and Tom Caulfield, Jr. of Thorofare, N.J.; her mother and stepfather, Alphaleda and Paul Durham, of Milton, Del.; four sisters, Manchey Shields, Wanda Semple, and Betty Halter, all of Pennsville, N.J., and Annies Hall of Newark, De.; and five grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her father; a sister, Darlene, and a brother, Timmy.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at H.T. Layton & Sons Home for Funerals, 102 South Main Street, Woodstown, N.J., where relatives and friends are invited to call one hour prior to services.
Interment will be in Lawnside cemetery, Pilesgrove, N.J..

Ellis Eastridge
AXTON, Va. - Ellis D. Eastridge, 79, of 3731 Irishburg Road, died Friday, May 14, 1999, at Blue Ridge Rehabilitation Center.
Born Feb. 23, 1920, in Altavista, he was the son of John Foster Eastridge and Roxie Huff Eastridge.
He was married
to Bertha B. Eastridge, who predeceased him.
He retired from Fieldcrest after 28 years of service. Prior to that, he worked for Speedway for 15 years in the maintainance department.
Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy Taylor of Danville and Betty Thomas of Axton; one son, Randy Eastridge of Axton; one sister, Nadine Farmer of Danville; one brother, Edward Eastridge of Danville; two grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today at Tomlinson Chapel with Bishop Buford Collins and the Rev. Harry Vance officiating. Burial will be in Henry Memorial Park.
Dolphus Gauldin
DANVILLE, Va. - Dolphus Alderson "D.A." Gauldin, 86, of 10 Milton Ave., died Sunday morning, May 16, 1999, in Riverside Health Care Center.
Born Aug. 2, 1912, in Callands, he was the son of Adolphus Gauldin and Alberta Eanes Gauldin.
He worked for Dan River Inc. as a slasher operator for 43 years until his retirement. He was a member of Third Avenue Congregational Christian Church where he was a member and past president of the chapel Bible class. He also had served on the board of deacons.
He was married
to Ethel Thompson Gauldin on March 20, 1937, who survives.
In addition to his wife of the home, survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Mary Frances G. Crawford and William S. Crawford of Danville and Romona G. Collins and Calvin S. Collins of Newport News; one sister, Jetty E. Gauldin of Danville; and four grandsons, William S. Crawford Jr. of Glenn Allen, John P. Crawford of Chesapeake and Robert T. Collins and Christopher W. Collins, both of Newport News.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Brice Gauldin and Jack Gauldin, and one grandson, Calvin Sanford "Sandy" Collins Jr.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Third Avenue Congregational Christian Church with the Rev. Freddie Vicks officiating. Burial will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Barker Funeral Home and at other times at the residence of his daughter at 242 Wheatley Road.
Martha Rushing
NATCHEZ, Miss. - Martha Morgan Bazemore Rushing, 66, of Natchez, Miss., died Sunday, May 16, 1999, at Natchez Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 7, 1932 in Danville, she was the daughter of Allen and Bertha Long Morgan.
She was the manager of Butler Shoe Store where she was employed for 36 years. She was of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include her husband, Luther C. "Sonny" Rushing of Natchez, Miss.; four daughters, Elizabeth Doane of Montgomery, Ala., Cynthia Johnson of Wetumpka, Ala., Brenda Newell of Brookhaven, Miss., and Tina King of Jayess, Miss.; two sisters, Pauline Charles of Midlothian and May Goodman of Danville; two brothers, Bill Morgan and Herman Morgan, both of Danville; 10 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by four brothers and one sister.
A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. today at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Natchez, Miss., with the Rev. Everett Elzey officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends an hour before the service today at the funeral home.
Sallie Tarpley
DRY FORK, Va. - Sallie Mize Tarpley, 96, of 13105 Mount Cross Road, died Sunday, May 16, 1999, in Roman Eagle Memorial Home after a decline in health for several years.
Born Sept. 15, 1902, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of George Washington Mize and Nannie Elizabeth Pyron Mize.
She lived most of her live in the Brosville community of Pittsylvania County where she was a homemaker. She was of the Baptist faith.
She was married
to William Wesley Tarpley on Dec. 29, 1920, who predeceased her on June 17, 1978.
She is survived by one son, Charles James Tarpley of Dry Fork; and two grandchildren.
She was predeceased by one daughter, Mary Tarpley Carter, five brothers and two sisters.
She was the last survivor of her immediate family.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with the Rev. Allen Holder officiating. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. today at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel and at other times at the residence.
Giula Wiggs
DANVILLE, Va. - Giula Shipwash Wiggs, 73, of 234 Robin Drive, died Sunday, May 16, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Jan. 19, 1926, in Ivanhoe, Va., she was the daughter of Thomas Duley Shipwash and Annie Manuel Shipwash.
She was married
to Kenneth Ray Wiggs for 53 years, who survives.
She attended Ivanhoe High School.
She taught adult Sunday school classes at Roanoke Church of God and was the former president of the Young Peoples Endeavor while her children were growing up.
She was employed at the Dan River cotton mill from 1941 to 1942, was a proofreader at the Danville Register & Bee from 1944 to 1945 and she was in management in the 1950s for Dairy Queen in Roanoke. She also was part owner of Stewartsville Service Center in the 1960s. She studied art for five years prior to 1978, and she founded an art supply and custom frame shop known as Gi's Art Supply in Fredricksburg in 1978. She sold her business for health reasons in 1983 and retired to Danville in 1987. She was a published poet and of the International Society of Poets.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include two sons, the Rev. Howard Ray Wiggs and Dennis Wayne Wiggs, both of Danville; one daughter, Pamela Joy Wiggs Oakes of Vinton; two sisters, Audene Shipwash Akers Gross of Rock Hill, S.C., and Violet Jewell Shipwash of Chester, S.C.; and 10 grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Townes Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Tim and Sharon Nuckles and the Rev. Jackie Poe officiating. Burial will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Townes Funeral Home and at other times at the residence.
