Connie Anderson
DRY FORK, Va. - Connie Mays Anderson, 74, of 625 Beverley Road, died Friday, May 21, 1999, in Danville after a decline in health for two months.
Born Jan. 15, 1925, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of the late Henry T. Mays and Lena Templeton Mays.
She was the wife of Clarence Edward Anderson, who predeceased her.
She lived most of her life in Danville and was of the Baptist faith. She was the retired owner and operator of C.E.'s Restaurant.
Survivors include one daughter, Sandra A. March of Danville; three sons, Roger Anderson of Cincinnati, Ohio, Wayne Anderson and Charles Anderson, both Danville; two brothers, Randolph Mays of Danville and Allen Mays of Pennsylvania; one sister, Eileen Mays of Tampa, Fla.; seven great-grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Brian Edwards and the Rev. Daryl Joyce officiating.
The family will receive friends from 7:30-8:30 p.m. today at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel and other times at the residence of daughter Sandra A. March, 4041 Mount Cross Road.
Reba Gatewood
GRETNA, Va. - Reba Keen Gatewood, 97, formerly of Chatham, died Friday, May 21, 1999, in Gretna Health Care Center.
Born April 17, 1902, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of the late William W. Keen and Emma Hamlet Keen.
She was married
to Henry Clay Gatewood, who predeceased her. She was a homemaker and a member of Chatham Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Inez G. Holder of Colonial Heights; two sons, William B. Gatewood of Glen Allen and Herman W. Gatewood of Murfreesboro, N.C.; one sister, Ruth K. Hall of Geneva, Fla.; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by one son, Haile L. Gatewood; one brother, Baugh Keen; and two sisters, Hattie K. Batterman and Izella K. Brooks.
A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Chatham Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Walker Pettyjohn officiating. Burial will be in Chatham Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Monday at Scott Funeral Home in Chatham and at other times at the home of Mabel Gatewood, 528 S. Main St., Chatham.

Myrtle Alma Walters
DANVILLE, Va. - Myrtle Alma Walters, 81, of 1809 Halifax Road, died Saturday, May 15, 1999, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home.
Born March 2, 1918, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of William E. Walters and Maude Ferguson Walters. She was educated in the Philadelphia Public School System and worked as a school aide prior to her retirement.
She is survived by two daughters, Barbara T. Wilson of Pelham, N.C., and Agnes Hampton of Danville; one sister, Lue Fannie Foster of Danville; and one brother, Edgar Walters of Philadelphia.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday from the East New Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. Marcellus Mack officiating. Interment
will follow in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the home of her daughter, Agnes Hampton, at 1809 Halifax Road.

Carrie Hairston
DANVILLE, Va. - Carrie Millner Hairston, 96, of 1106 Oak Hill Rd., died Tuesday, May 18, 1999 at the Beverly Health Care Center in Martinsville.
Born in Pittsylvania County on Nov. 7, 1902, she was the daughter of Moses Millner and Rosa Bell Flippen Millner. She was a member of the Shiloh Baptist Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Ruby H. Waller of Axton and Rodessa Via of Danville; two sons, Jesse Clyde Hairston of Washington, D.C., and Levi Hairston of Danville; and one sister, Annie M. Hairston of Lovingston.
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, May 21, 1999 at 11 a.m. from the Shiloh Baptist Church with the Rev. John W. Tinsley officiating. Interment
will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.
A visitation will be held at the Shiloh Baptist Church 7-8 p.m. today. All other times the family will be at the residence. Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Thelma Haskins
DANVILLE, Va. - Thelma Clyde Brewer Haskins, of 304 Halifax St., died Wednesday, May 19, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center after four years of declining health.
Born May 24, 1930, in Elk Creek, she was the daughter of Eli Clinton Brewer and Ruby Osborne Brewer.
She was married
March 10, 1951, to Wade E. Haskins, who survives.
She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. She lived most of her life in the Danville area.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include two daughters, Jill H. Aldinger of Michigan, and Jackie H. Lawson of Danville; one brother, Larry C. Brewer of Danville; three sisters, Nina Moore of Sutherlin, Vilda Irby of Mebane, N.C. and Mildred Barker of Burlington, N.C.; one half-sister, Margie Wiggins of Cramerton, N.C.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by two half-brothers, Clifford Brewer and Lindon J. Brewer.
A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.

James Knight
DANVILLE, Va. - James E. Knight, 70, of 411 Seminole Drive, died Sunday, May 16, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born March 7, 1929, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of James H. Knight and Annie Mayo Knight.
He was a minster and traveling evangelist.
Survivors include one sister, Jo-Ann Knight Hickson of Danville; and three brothers, Douglas M. Knight of Mt. Vernon, N.Y., Richard O. Knight and Clyde W. Knight, both of Danville.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Highland Burial Park.

Ennion Wilson
DANVILLE, Va. - Ennion Elwood "Buck" Wilson, 72, died Wednesday, May 19, 1999, at Riverside Health Care Center after one year of declining health.
Born Nov. 12, 1926, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Albert F. Wilson and Bessie Harris Wilson.
He served in the United States Navy during World War II.
He lived most of his life in Northern Virginia and in 1989 moved to the Danville area. He was an electrician, retired from Herring Electric. He was of the Christian faith.
Survivors include one daughter, Dawn W. Hankins of Danville; three brothers, Al Wilson of Charlotte, N.C., Calvin Wilson of Danville, and Herman Wilson of Winston-Salem, N.C.; one sister, Christine Hailey of Grapevine, Texas; and one granddaughter, Ashley Nicole Owen of Danville.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Doris Pruitt and Geneva Walker.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with the Rev. Don Davidson officiating.

Percy James
RINGGOLD, Va. - Percy William James, 71, of 879 Mountain Hill Road, died Wednesday, May 19, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born May 25, 1927, in Rockingham County, N.C., he was the son of Vandy Nat James and Viola Lyles James.
On Oct. 11, 1952 he married
Nancy Wade James, who survives.
He lived most of his life in the Mountain Hill community of Pittsylvania County. He retired from Buchanan Rental Properties where he had worked in maintenance for a number of years. He was a member of Christian Fellowship Church of God where he served as usher and had served on the pulpit committee. He also had served in the U.S. Army.
In addition to his wife of the home, survivors include one son, Ricky Dale James of Danville; one daughter, Patricia James Booth of Stafford; one sister, Doris James Creasey of Eden, N.C.; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was predeceased by two brothers and one sister.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Christian Fellowship Church of God on the South Boston Highway with the Rev. Jeffrey Hopkins and Rev. Neal Isom officiating. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. today at Christian Fellowship Church of God and at other times at the residence.

Cynthia Scarce
DANVILLE, Va. - Cynthia Thelma Scarce, 74, of 237 Wooding Ave., died Thursday, May 13, 1999, at the Brooke Medical Burn Center, San Antonio.
Born Feb. 19, 1925, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Daniel Bruce Scarce and Nannie Dishman Scarce.
She was a veteran of the United States Navy during World War II. She spent most of her life in Danville where she worked for Dan River Inc. and was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church.
Survivors include four daughters; two brothers; one sister; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by four brothers and one sister.
A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Danville Memorial Gardens with the Rev. O.H. Burton officiating.
