Nina Walton
DRY FORK, Va. - Nina Scarce Walton, 85, of 3928 Whitmell School Road, died Wednesday, May 26, 1999, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home for five years after several years of declining health.
Born Aug. 29, 1913, in Pittsylvania County, Va., she was the daughter of George T. Scarce and Madie Lacy Scarce.
She was married
Aug. 29, 1913, to Andrew Shields Walton Sr.
She was a member of Whitmell Christian Church. She lived her entire life in the Whitmell comunity of Pittsylvania County. She was retired from Dan River Inc. where she worked in the Draw Ends Department.
Survivors include one daughter, Faye W. Holland of the residence; two sons, T. Wayne Walton and Andrew S. Walton, Jr. both of Dry Fork; two step great-grandchildren, three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Whitmell Christian Church with the Rev. Andrew Jack Oakes and the Rev. Jeff Cannon officiating. Interment
will will be in the Scearce Family cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. at Wrenn Yeatts Westover Chapel and at other times at the residence.
Josie White
DANVILLE, Va. Josie Taylor White, 72, of 2526 North Main St., died Wednesday, May 26, 1999, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home after four years of declining health.
Born Aug. 22, 1926, in Semora, N.C., she was the daughter of Joseph Taylor and Deemar Hall Taylor.
She was married
to Mitchell White who predeceased in 1964.
She had lived her entire life in the Danville area and was a member of the Community Baptist Church. She had been a resident of Roman Eagle for the past four years.
Survivors include two daughters, Patsy Hawker and Laura Burton, both of Danville; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by one son, James White.
A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. James Albert officiating.
The family will receive friends at the residence of Patsy Hawker, 420 Norwood Drive.

Roy "Jack" Adams Jr.
DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. - Roy "Jack" Alfred Adams Jr., 72, died Monday, May 24, 1999.
Born May 16, 1927, in Danville, Va., he was the son of Roy Adams and Eula Adams.
He was married
to Myrtle Adams, who survives.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army and Air Force. He retired as an insurance agent and was a member of The Central Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife of Douglasville, survivors include one son Roy Adams of Douglasville; two daughters Cynthia Turner of Douglasville and Nancy Cross of Franklin, Tenn.; one sister Evelyn D. Adams of New Port Richie, Fla.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral was 2 p.m. Wednesday at Rosehaven Chapel with the Rev. Jack Evans officiating. Interment
was in the Sunrise Memorial Gardens.

Maude Akers
WILLIS, Va. - Maude Moore Akers, 96, passed away Thursday, May 27, 1999.
She was born September 9, 1902, to the late John and Weeda Young Moore.
She was married
to Rev. Waddie Akers on March 30, 1923, who preceded her in death November 12, 1991.
She was a member of White Rock Church of The Brethren.
She lived most of her life in Willis, until moving to Danville, Virginia, with her son in 1989, where she lived until having to be admitted to Skyline Manor Nursing Home in Floyd in August 1998.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Hobert Moore and Charlie Moore and a sister Ella Moore Harris.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Mildred and Marion Roberts of Salem; one son and daughter-in-law, Eskrine D. (Whitey) and Sally Akers of Danville; one sister Myrtle Hollandsworth of Skyline Manor Nursing Home; four grandchildren, Marion L. Roberts Jr., Robert L. Canada, Sundi Moody and Staci Purnell; and six great grandchildren.
A funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Maberry Funeral Home Chapel, Floyd, with the Rev. Kenny Wurzburger and the Rev. Roy Turpin officiating. Burial will be in Jacksonville cemetery, in Floyd.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
John Ball
CHRISTIANBURG, Va. - John Lewis Ball, 80, of Christianburg, Va., passed away in his sleep May 26, 1999.
He was born in Danville, Va., on June 1, 1918, a son of John and Lizzie Nichols Hall.
He was married
on May 31, 1940, to Marcia Goodson who passed away on July 12, 1998.
His sister, Annie Ball Ferrell and one son, John Michael Ball, preceded him in death. Mr. Ball served in the United States Army during World War II in Normandy, Northern France and the Rhineland with the 2nd General Hospital as a medical technician. During that time, he received several awards including the Bronze Star for his service. He retired from Dan River Mills after 39 years and was a foster parent with Danville Social Services to more than 100 children.
He is survived by a daughter, Marilyn L. Ball, a grandson, Patrick Michael Damon II and a special friend, J. Louise Rogers, all of Roanoke, Va.; and a son, Rev. Wayne Lee Ball of Rome, Italy.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, May 29, 1999, at 11:00 a.m. from the graveside at Highland Burial Park in Danville, Va., by the Rev. R.J. Barber, Jr. with military honors by the American Legion Post No. 325.

The family ask that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Dan River High School baseball program in memory of John Michael Ball or to the Salem Virginia Medical Center.
Charlotte Belcher
DANVILLE, Va. - Charlotte Fulton Belcher, of 304 Sutherlin Place, died Thursday, May 27, 1999, at Riverside Health Care Center.
Born in Danville, Va., she was the daughter of Claude K. Fulton and Beulah Hall Fulton.
She was married
to Cecil Asa Belcher, who predeceased.
She was a retired school teacher from Alexandria. She was a member of the Main Street United Methodist Church and the Wednesday Club.
Survivors include two brothers James H. Fulton of Danville, and C. Swanson Fulton of Burlington, N.C.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by one sister, Virginia Ray Fulton.
A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the residence of her brother, James H. Fulton, 275 Oakwood Circle.

Sallie Price
DANVILLE, Va. - Sallie Kate Price, 79, of 211 Sunset Drive, died Monday, May 24, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Oct. 12, 1919, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Jordan Thomas and Luella Morton Thomas.
She was married
to John C. Price, who predeceased her.
Survivors include six daughters Vearlia Irvin, Sheridena Price and Cora Price, all of Danville, Waxie Waller of West Haven, Conn., Gloria Fitzgerald of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, and Valeria Marable of Norfolk.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at High Street Baptist Church with the Rev. Clarence McLaughlin officiating. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.

Annie Waller
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Annie Lee Waller, 86, of 1420 Moore St., died Wednesday, May 26, 1999, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born June 30, 1912, in Halifax County, she was the daughter of Waverly Cabell Waller and Annie French Abbott.
She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of South Boston. She was a graduate of Randolph Macon College in Lynchburg. She was an employee of South Boston Bank and Trust Co. of which her father was one of the founders and she retired at the age 62.
Survivors include cousins.
She was predeceased by one brother, Judge William Tucker Waller.
A funeral will be 1 p.m. today at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bob Fox officiating. Burial will be in Winns Creek Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from noon-1 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home.
Elizabeth Wyrick
LAUREL, Md. - Elizabeth Cameron Wyrick, 84, of 8111 Pinehill St. died 11:50 p.m., Tuesday, May 25, 1999, at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis.
Born Sept. 7, 1914, in Allisonia, Va., she was the daughter of William Cameron McGlothlin and Minnie Ann Sutherland McGlothlin.
She was married
to Charles Edgar Wyrick, who predeceased her on Nov. 6, 1981.
She was a member of Cedar Grove United Methodist Church and the ladies auxiliary of the Church.
Until her retirement, she worked as a sales clerk for J.D. Children's Apparel.Survivors include one son Oswald Wyrick of Riva; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by two sons, Malcolm Graham Atkins Sr. and John Carlos Atkins
