DANVILLE, Va. - Joseph "Joe" Wayne Daniel, 58, of 311 Seminole Trail, died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003, at his residence.
Born Aug. 8, 1944, in Roanoke Rapids, N.C., he was the son of Ivan Drew Daniel and Annie Retler Daniel.
He had moved back to Danville to live in 1989 after having retired from the U.S. Army with 22 years of service and having lived in a number of different places during his military career. He was of the Baptist faith and a 32nd degree Mason. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #647.
He is survived by a daughter, Sharon Marie Daniel of Annandale; a son, Anthony Leon Daniel of Korea; two brothers, Kenneth Wade Daniel and Carlton Daniel, both of Danville; five sisters, Gayle Resler of Columbia, S.C., Clara Lynch, Pauline Saunders and Joan Graham, all of Danville and Frances Clark, of Jackson, Miss. and one grandson.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Thursday from the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with the Rev. William Mizelle officiating and military honors by American Legion Dan River Post #1097 Honor Guard.
Interment may follow at a later date.
The family will be at the residence of his brother Kenneth and Carolyn Daniel, 130 James Road, Danville.

Aubrey Farmer
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Aubrey Gunn Farmer, 96, formerly of Woodlawn Drive in Danville, Va., died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, at IHS of Fayetteville. He had been in declining health for several months.
Born Jan. 11, 1907, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Mark Anthony Farmer and Betty Hunt Farmer, who predeceased him.
He had lived in Danville until moving to Fayetteville in December 2001. He was retired from Dan River Mills, where he had worked as a machinist. He was also a World War II veteran, serving with the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific.
He was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church.
He married Louise Gosney Farmer Oct. 1, 1932.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Vicky Lynn Farmer, both of Fayetteville and one grandchild.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by 12 brothers and sisters.
The graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. William Blalock officiating. Military honors will be given by American Legion Dan River Post #1097.
The family received friends 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Wrenn-Yeatts, Westover Chapel. At other times they will be at the residence of Ann Farmer, 185 Hamlin Avenue.

Faye S. Hall
DANVILLE, Va. - Mrs. Faye S. Hall, 78, of 127 Wendell Court, died on Tuesday, January 28, 2003, at her residence. She had been in declining health for the past four years.
Mrs. Hall was born in Danville, January 28, 1925, a daughter of the late Clarence Howell Spooner and Margaret Carter Wilson.
She attended George Washington High School. Mrs. Hall was retired from Dan River, Inc. working in the Inventory Control department for many years.
She married Norman R. Hall on June 15, 1946.
In addition to her husband of the residence, she is survived by two sons, Larry N. Hall and his wife, Betsy of Danville and Mark C. Hall of Helena, Mont.; one daughter, Kimberly H. "Kim" Fowlkes and her husband, Donald of Danville; one sister, Peggy Mealer of Danville; and four grandchildren, Renee L. Hall of Waynesboro, Va., Whitney E. Fowlkes, Jonathon T. Fowlkes and Jami L. Sheppard, all of Danville.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 30, 2003, at 2 p.m. from Danville Memorial Gardens Chapel with the Elder Garland Walker officiating. Interment will be in Danville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the residence, 127 Wendell Court.

Alice Marie Harper
DANVILLE, Va. - Alice Marie Harper, 86, of 119 Heritage Drive, died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, at Trinity Mission Nursing Home in Rocky Mount.
Born Aug. 3, 1916, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Ernest Bowe and Blanche M. Bowe.
She was a homemaker. She attended Bennett Memorial Baptist Church.
She was married to Albert Harper, who predeceased her.
She is survived by two brothers, Henry Bowe of Burlington, N.C. and Eugene Bowe of Washington, D.C.
The graveside funeral will be held 3 p.m. Friday at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Howard Graves officiating. Interment will follow.
A viewing will be held 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Cunningham and Hughes Funeral Home.
The family will be at the residence of Mae F. Williams, 507 Sydenham Street.

DANVILLE, Va. - Edward George Hughes Sr., 62, of 330 Seeland Road, died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003, at K.B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Born Sept. 18, 1940, in Danville, he was a son of Arthur A. Hughes and Mary Smith Hughes.
He was a self-employed concrete contractor.
He was formerly married to Phyllis F. Hughes.
He is survived by five sons, Edward Hughes Jr., Keith Hughes, Timothy Hughes, Torey Watlington, all of Danville and Eric Hughes of Spring Garden; a daughter, Renee Holman of Chesapeake; four sisters, Florence Linton of Winston-Salem, N.C., Rosa McCall of Philadelphia, Pa., Arthur Mae Webb of Lynchburg and Lambert Hughes of Danville and 14 grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 1 p.m. Friday at Mt. Sinai Glorious Church with Bishop A.R. Linder officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Christine Meadows Kronkowski
CHATHAM, Va. - Christine Meadows Kronkowski, 63, died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Jan. 29, 1939, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of John Henry Meadows and Madeline Mays Meadows, who predeceased her.
She was a member of Samuel Harris Memorial Baptist Church. She was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
She was married to William Richard Kronkowski.
In addition to her husband, of the residence, she is also survived by two daughters, Sherrie K. English of Gretna and Connie K. Crews of Chatham; two sons, Billy Kronkowski and Michael Kronkowski, both of Chatham; three brothers, Junior L. Meadows and H. Michael Meadows, both of Chatham and Ronald W. Meadows of Danville; one sister, Shirley M. Jones of King William, Va. and four grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Joan M. Woodson.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Samuel Harris Memorial Baptist Church with the Rev. Thomas Wright and the Rev. Henry M. Meadows Jr. officiating. Interment will be in the Hillcrest Burial Park.

Edward S. Parrish
DANVILLE, Va. - Edward S. Parrish, 83, of 113 Longview Ave., died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003, at his residence after six years of declining health.
Born Sept. 1, 1919, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Phillip Thomas Parrish and Judy Elizabeth Shelton Parrish.
He lived most of his life in Danville. He was retired from Lorillard Tobacco Company, where he worked as a sheet metal fabricator. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force Military Police, having served during World War II. He was of the Holiness faith.
He married Frances C. Parrish on Jan. 26, 1952.
In addition to his wife of the residence, he is survived by a son, Phillip Edward Parrish of the residence and a brother, Archer N. Parrish of Dry Fork.
He was predeceased by six brothers, Herman P. Parrish, Joe Parrish, Hugh Parrish, Irving Parrish, Percy T. Parrish and Willie Parrish and a sister, Mary Lou Parrish Owen.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with the Rev. Cecil Coates and the Rev. Bennett Shelton officiating. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.

SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Julia Hughes Satterfield, 71, of 200 Hamilton Blvd., died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born March 20, 1931, in Halifax County, she was a daughter of Charlie Gaston Hughes and Elsie Watts Hughes.
She was a homemaker.
She was married to Paul I. Satterfield, who predeceased her.
She is survived by a son, Danny I. Satterfield of South Boston; two daughters, Brenda D. Beachy of Clover and Rose Curry of South Boston; two sisters, Ruth H. Roark of Richmond and Ruby L. Yancey of Halifax; three grandsons; three step grandchildren; and six step great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by one grandchild, James Allen Beachy.

JAVA, Va. - Alvin Odell Strickland, 82, of 320 McDaniel Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003, in Autumn Care of Altavista.
Born May 8, 1920, in Halifax County, he was a son of Arthur Strickland and Lillian Crews Strickland.
He was a retired employee of Pannill Knitting.
He was married to Susie McGregor Strickland, who predeceased him.
He is survived by a son, Alvin Hubert Strickland of Java; two daughters, Betty George and Linda Wilmoth, both of Java; two brothers, Lee Strickland of Alamogordo, N.M. and Thomas Strickland of Cluster Springs; five sisters, Linwood Guthrie of Nathalie, Elizabeth Saunders of Halifax, Spotswood Davis of Nathalie, Jean Oakes of Turbyville and Alice Strickland of Oklahoma City, Okla.; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

NORFOLK, Va. - Cathy Huff Barrett, 44, formerly of Norfolk, died Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2002 at Walter Reed Hospital in Gloucester.
Born April 7, 1958, in Danville, she was the daughter of John H. Huff, who predeceased her and Arlene Barbour Huff, who survives.
She was born in Danville and lived most of her life in Virginia Beach. She was of the Methodist faith.
She was married to Fred Vincent Barrett, who predeceased her.
In addition to her mother of Danville, she is survived by two sons, John V. Barrett of Chesapeake and Ronnie Barrett of Elizabeth City; a sister, Edie Lambert of Raleigh, N.C.; and one granddaughter.
The graveside funeral will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hines Family Cemetery in Swansonville.

PROVIDENCE, N.C. - Virginia Sexton Cox, of 356 East Street, died Friday, Oct. 25, 2002.
Born March 31, 1940, in Wise County, she was the daughter of Henry Sexton and Maggie Lawson Sexton.
She was a retired nurse and retired owner of Cox Home for the Elderly. She was a member of Full Gospel Fellowship Church.
She was married to Kenneth Wayne Cox.
In addition to her husband of the residence, she is survived by four daughters, Gwendolyn Pleasants of Providence, Carol Varner of Ruffin, Deborah Howard of Berea, Ky. and Ashley Goble of Yanceyville; a son, Jack McCoy of Vansant; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
