Lula Stamps
DANVILLE, Va. - Lula Beatrice Anderson Stamps, 92, 112 American Legion Blvd., died Friday, May 28, 1999, at Roman Eagle Nursing Home.
Born March 4, 1907, in Rock Hill, S.C., she was the daughter of Frank Anderson and Eliza Bradley Anderson.
She was retired from Dan River Inc. She was a member of Vance Street Baptist Church and a member of United Order of Tents Lodge.
She was married
to Charlie Stamps.
Survivors include one son, Ethyel R. Stamps of Danville; two sisters, Marie Lumpkin and Elizabeth Barber, both of Washington; three grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Vance Street Baptist Church with the Rev. H.L. Dickerson officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery.
The remains may be viewed Sunday afternoon at L.H. Brooks & Bros. Funeral Home, at other times the family will be at the residence.
Mossie Walsh
DANVILLE, Va. - Mossie McKinney Walsh, of 222 Gatewood Ave., died Saturday, May 29, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Walsh was born Nov. 1, 1913, in the Mayfield Community of Rockingham County, N.C. She was the daughter of Samuel Morgan McKinney and Lena Dix McKinney.
She lived most of her life in Danville and was retired from J.C. Penny in Danville.
She was a member of Stokesland Baptist Church and had formerly taught Sunday school for thirty years. She was also a former member of the church choir.
On March 27, 1936, she was married
to Curtis Lee Walsh Sr., who predeceased her in July of 1968.
Mrs. Walsh is survived by a son Curtis Lee Walsh Jr, and his wife Joyce Boyd Walsh of Richmond; a daughter, Judith Walsh Stoebe and her husband Robert John Stoebe of Sterling; two grandsons, Jeffrey Boyd Walsh and John Andrew Stoebe; two granddaughters, Joanna Walsh Miller and Carole Stoebe Smith; two great-granddaughters, Hannah Mae Stoebe and Katelyn Joy Walsh; four sisters, Muriel M. Strader, Connie M. Page, Kathleen M. Powell, all of Ruffin, N.C., and Viola J. Hill of Danville.
Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. today, at Stokesland Baptist Church with Rev. Don Frank officiating. Burial will be in Mountain View cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that donations be made to the Danville Life Saving Crew.

Harold Adams
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Harold Hagood Adams, 60, of 510 Cheverly Drive died Saturday, May 29, 1999 at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born in Charlotte County June 9, 1938, he was the son of Chesley Albert Adams and Pearl Newcomb Adams. He was married
to Betty C. Adams, who survives.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son Roger H. Adams of Emporia; three step-children, Leon Stanley of Nathalie, Christopher Powell of Nathalie and Annette Watts of Roxboro, N.C.; four sisters, Charlotte Thompson of Ft. Mitchell, Hazel Fitz of Williesburg, Shirley Scott of Drakes Branch and Midlred Mangum of South Boston. He was preceded in death by two brothers, John Adams and Chesley Adams Jr.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Powell Funeral Home Chapel in South Boston with the Rev. Rodney Barwick presiding. Burial will follow in Childrey Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home today from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and at other times at the residence.
Joshua Hardison
DANVILLE, Va. - Joshua David Hardison, 20, of 3767 Vandola Road, died Friday, May 28, 1999, at 6:05 p.m. in Carillion Memorial Rehabilitation Center, Roanoke, as a result of a truck accident May 8, 1999. He had been a patient at the rehabilitation center for three days.
Mr. Hardison was born Aug. 29, 1978, in Danville, a son of Malcolm Theodore Hardison and Cynthia Moss Parker.
He attended Tunstall High School. He wrote music and was a musician and artist. He was a member of Vandola Baptist Church. He worked for Dameron Plumbing Contractors.
In addition to his mother of Vandola Road and his father of Richmond, survivors include his stepfather, Robby Parker of Vandola Road; one brother, Justin, of Vandola Road; his maternal grandparents, Jack and Margaret Moss of Vandola Road; and his paternal grandmother, Mary Hardison of Danville. He also leaves a special friend, Cristol Johnson.
He was predeceased by his paternal grandfather, Durham L. Hardison Sr.
Funeral services will be conducted today at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Swicegood Funeral Home with the Rev. LeRoy Clack officiating. Burial will be in Vandola Community cemetery, Vandola Road.
The family will receive friends at the residence of Jack and Margaret Moss, 3767 Vandola Road.

Edward Haskins
CHATHAM, Va. - Edward Thomas Haskins, 73, of 3177 Toshes Road, died Saturday, May 29, 1999, at Virginia Baptist Hospital in Lynchburg.
Born Nov. 24, 1925, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Walter John Hoskins and Mattie Lou Hall Hoskins.
He was a member of New Bethel Church of the Brethren.
He was predeceased by his wife, Marjorie Osborne Haskins.
Survivors include three daughters, Brenda H. Kendrick of Chatham, Jeanette H. Doss of Gretna and Patricia Haskins Adams of Rocky Mount; one son Allan Edward Haskins of Chatham; two brothers, Willard S. Hoskins and Windell G. Hoskins, both of Chatham; four sisters, Mary H. Hedrick of Chatham, Louise H. Davis of Chatham, Doris H. Jones of Leesville and Betty H. Adkins of Gretna; five stepsisters, Faye Tosh Gray, Christine Tosh Haskins, Pauline Tosh Leonard, Colleen Tosh Hardy and Linda Tosh Thompson, all of Danville; one stepbrother, Bill Tosh of Danville; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 11 a.m. today at Scott Funeral Home with the Rev. George W. Knight officiating. Burial will be in the Hoskins Family cemetery.

Joe Meadows
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Joe Lee Meadows, 83, of 4148 East Hyco Road, died Sunday, May 30, 1999 at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Dec. 31, 1915 in Halifax County, he was the son of Watkins Meadows and Eliza T. Conner Meadows. He was married
to Elize Lowery Meadows, who survives.
A veteran of the Air Force, he was a retired employee of Westinghouse. He was a member of Shady Grove United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife, Meadows is survived by a son Watkins Meadows of South Boston; four sisters, Mary M. Johnson of Virginia Beach, Janie M. Propst of Baltimore, Md., Bessie M. Dawson of South Boston and Mildred M. Collie of Cape Cod, Mass.; and one brother Louis Meadows of Cape Cod, Mass. He was preceded in death by his brother H.E. Meadows.
A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Shady Grove United Methodist Church with the Rev. Don Davidson officiating. Burial will follow in the Shady Grove United Methodist Church cemetery in Virgilina.
Visitiation will be Tuesday night from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Brooks Funeral Home in South Boston and at other times at the residence.
Samuel Moorman
ROANOKE, Va. - Samuel Ballard Moorman Sr., 86, of 1630 Rorer Ave., died Sunday morning in Salem Health and Rehabilitation Center in Salem.
Born Jan. 29, 1913, he was a son of Samuel Vaden Moorman and Ida Giles Moorman. He was married
to Annie Louise Taylor Moorman.
Prior to his retirement, he was a dedicated employee of Norfolk and Western Railways for 33 years.
He is survived by two daughters, Ressa Walker of Clover, S.C., and Annie Johnsie Moorman of Richmond, Texas; one son, Samuel Ballard Moorman Jr. of Clover, S.C.; two sisters, Ruth M. Tyree and Willie Mae Moorman, both of Roanoke; two nieces, Clarissa S. Hale and Carmilla Tyree-Motley, both of Roanoke; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great nieces, great nephews, a special friend, Robert Penn, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday from the chapel of Miller Funeral Home in Gretna by the Rev. S.G. Moore. Burial will follow in the Giles family cemetery in Chatham.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Miller Funeral Home and at other times at the residence of a sister, Ruth Tyree, of 102 Trout St, South West Roanoke.
Wendell Holmes Oliver
DANVILLE, Va. - Wendell Holmes Oliver, 70, of 345 Virginia Ave, died Saturday, May 29, 1999, at his residence.
He was born Oct 9, 1928, in Danville, the son of Malcolm E. Oliver Sr. and Eloise Edwards Oliver.
Mr. Oliver attended the University of Virginia and was a Korean War veteran, serving in the United States Navy. He was retired from the Finance Department for the City of Danville, where he had worked for many years. Mr. Oliver had previously worked in the office for Dibrell Bros. Inc. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Danville.
He is survived by three nephews, Malcolm E. Oliver III of Nederland, Colo., Ben Oliver of Boulder, Colo. and Edward M. Oliver of Kill Devil Hills, N.C.; and a sister-in-law, Marion Marshal "Dickie" Hooper of Nokomis, Fla.
Mr. Oliver was predeceased by a brother Malcolm E. Oliver Jr.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. today, at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Jack Heinsohn officiating.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

MARION, S.C. - Lemuel Darr Shealy, 65, of 601 Lipscomb St., died Saturday May 29, 1999 at Medical University in Charleston.
Born March 30, 1934 in Camilla, Ga., he was the son of Lemuel Darr Shealy Sr. and Ethel Shealy. He was married
to Emily T. Shealy, who survives.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include a daughter Abby S. Guy of Fuquay-Varina, N.C.; two sons, Mike Shealy of Waynesboro, Va., and Frank Shealy of South Boston, Va.; one sister Peggy Tesh of Summerfield, N.C.; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Main Street United Methodist Church in South Boston with the Rev. George Gravitt officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge cemetery.
