Pattie Haskins
DANVILLE, Va. - Pattie Anderson Meadows Haskins, 70, of 247 Hamlin Ave., died Thursday, June 3, 1999, at her residence.
Born Aug. 15, 1928, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Charlie Anderson and Lena Lewis Anderson.
She was married
to Edward W. Meadows, who predeceased her, and later to Rawley A. Haskins, who survives. She was a member of Church of God of Prophecy of Java, and was retired from Health Tex.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include two sons, Thomas W. Meadows of Providence, N.C., and Rawley A. Haskins Jr. of Danville; one daughter, Janice M. Gill of Danville; two brothers, Harry Anderson of Danville and Gilbert Anderson of Providence, N.C.; three sisters, Clara A. Moser of Java, Elizabeth A. Heffinger and Jeanette A. Brown, both of Danville; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Scott Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Charles B. Scearce officiating. Burial will be at the Zion United Methodist Church cemetery in Pittsylvania County.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. today at Scott Funeral Home Chapel and at other times at the residence.
Ruth Holley
DANVILLE, Va. - Ruth Davis Holley, 86, of 467 Piney Forest Road, died early Wednesday morning, June 2, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center after five years of declining health.
Mrs. Holley was born in the Witt community of Pittsylvania County on March 23, 1913, a daughter of the late Rawley Lee Davis and Mary Abbott Davis.
Mrs. Holley married
Howard Durend Holley on December 20, 1933, who predeceased her on October 5, 1994.
Mrs. Holley had made her home in Danville all of her life, she was a homemaker and worked for nearly eight years at Dan River Inc. in her earlier years. She was of the Methodist faith, a member of the former Piney Forest United Methodist Church. Mrs. Holley was predeceased by a granddaughter, Ellen Williams, and also predeceased by two brothers, James Davis and Thomas Davis.
Survivors include one daughter, Louise Holley Williams of Danville, and two sons Durend Neal Holley of the residence and L. Wayne Holley Sr., of Danville; and three sisters Gladys Davis Astin, Sallie Davis Powell and Annie Davis Holley, all of Danville; two brothers Jack Davis and Alonza Davis, both of Danville and two grandchildren, Wayne Holley Jr. and Brandy Holley, both of Danville and one great-grandchild Landon Holley.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. today at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ronald W. Mateer officiating. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Eva Johnston
PLAINFIELD, N.J. - Eva Mildred Taylor Johnston, 69, died Friday, May 29, 1999, at Ridgewood New Jersey Nursing Home.
Born March 13, 1930, in Pittsylvania County, Va., she was the daughter of John L. Taylor and Willie Walters Taylor.
She was a graduate of Southside High School and Virginia State University before her illness. She was a Social Worker in the Staten Island Department of Social Services. She was a member of A.K.A. Sorority.
Survivors include three daughters, Arline Woodbury of New York, Brenda W. Williams of Plainfield, and Kathryn W. Zeno of Ridgewood, N.J.; two sisters, Marian T. Tyrance of Washington, D.C. and Muriel T. Beavers of Danville; four brothers, Douglas Taylor of Washington D.C., Junius Taylor and Carl Taylor, both of Philadelphia, Pa., and Samuel Taylor of Danville, Va.; and three grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Metropolitan A.M.E. Church in Ridgewood. Burial will be in Hillside cemetery in Scotch Plains, N.J.
C.C. Van Emburgh, of Ridgewood, is in charge of funeral arrangements.
Minister Mattie Stone
CHATHAM, Va. - Minister Mattie G. Stone, of 50 Lynn St., died Sunday, May 30, 1999, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born March 24, 1922, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Major Giggetts and Elizabeth Carter Giggetts.
She was married
to Sambo Stone, who survives.
She was a member of St. Paul Outreach Center.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include three sons, Reuben Oakes Jr. of Charlotte, N.C., Benjamin Stone of Gretna, and Kelvin Wayne Stone of Las Vegas, Nev.; five daughters, Mary E. Pannell of Roanoke, Dela Webb and Marie O. Robertson, both of Chatham, Castello Sidney of Providence, N.C. and Jackie Dixon of Sutlin Md.; two step-sons, Rosevelt Stone of Danville, and John Henry Oakes of Chatham; four sisters, Bessie Hall of Kellings, Bertha Giggetts of Richmond, Ethel Logan of Danville, and Josephine Wilkins of Ringgold; 19 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul Outreach Center with the Bishop Walter Anderson officiating. Burial will be in church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Willie White
DISTRICT HEIGHTS, Md. - Willie Lee White, died Saturday, May 29, 1999.
Survivors include three children, two sisters, one brother and two grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 11 a.m. today at Iconlum Baptist Church in Capital Heights. Interment
will be in Higland Burial Park with military rites by American Legion Post No. 1097 honor guards.

Noland Campbell Jr.
LONG BEACH, Calif. - Noland Bervard "Dupy" Campbell Jr., 65, died Monday, May 31, 1999, at Long Beach Veterans Hospital, Long Beach, after a lengthy illness.
Born June 14, 1934, in Danville, Va., he was the son of Noland B. Campbell and Ila Tanksley Campbell.
He was married
to Margie Logan Campbell who predeceased him.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving in the Vietnam War.
He was a former member of the Baptist Tabernacle of Danville, and later a member of Long Beach Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Te Jae Campbell Wehurt of Okinawa, Japan; two sisters, Virl C. Guill of Ringgold, Va. and Judy C. Grubbs of Danville; and two grandchildren.
He was predeceased by one sister, Katherine C. Smith.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. today at Roman Eagle Nursing Home Chapel with the Rev. Carson Dalton officiating.
A funeral service and burial was held in California on June 3.
Tony Dix
DANVILLE, Va. - Tony Allen Dix, 37, 214 Guilford St., died Friday, June 4, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center after three years of declining health.
Born Oct. 3, 1961, in Danville, he was the son of the late Raymond Allen Dix and Ramona Tyree Dix, who survives.
He lived his entire life in the Danville area and worked as a HVAC technician in the heating and air conditioning field. He attended Third Avenue Christian Church.
In addition to his mother of the residence, survivors include two sisters, Wanda Edwards of Danville and April Saunders of Dry Fork; and a maternal grandmother, Virgie Tice of Lynchburg.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. Freddy J. Vicks officiating. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.

Eugene Hanks
DANVILLE, Va. - Eugene Alvin Hanks, 55, of 3733 Franklin Turnpike, died at 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 4, 1999, at his residence.
Born Dec. 30, 1943, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Elijah Hanks and Ruby Mayes Hanks and foster parents Owen Hanks and Rosa Hanks.
He was married
Feb. 17, 1967, to Annie Mae Bryant Hanks, who survives.
He was a member of Mount Hermon Baptist Church.
He was employed as a doffer helper for Dan River, Inc.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include one daughter, Sandra H. Spencer of Ringgold; two sisters, Gladys Guill of Danville and Pearl Carwthon of Chicago; one brother, Edward Hanks of Ringgold; and four half-brothers, Donnie Hanks, Larry Hanks, Gary Hanks and Bobby Hanks, all of Danville.
He was also predeceased by one brother, Anthony Hanks.
A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Barker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Don Davidson and the Rev. Tommy Deal officiating. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.

ALTON, Va. - Charles Cabell Hendricks, 65, of 1087 Hendricks Trail, died Friday, June 4, 1999, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born Aug. 30, 1933, in Halifax County, he was the son of John Lewis Hendricks and Lois Carter Hendricks.
He was married
to Daisy Mangum Hendricks, who predeceased him.
He was a retired employee of the Virginia Department of Transportation and a member of Alton Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Michele H. Talley of Alton; one son, John L. Hendricks of Alton; two sisters, Virginia Overby of Florida and Esther Richards of Richmond; and one grandchild.
A funeral will be held 3 p.m. Sunday at Alton Baptist Church with the Rev. Phil Ellenburg and the Rev. Clyde Shelton officiating. Burial will be in church cemetery.
