"Charlie" Epps
HALIFAX, Va. - Charles William "Charlie" Epps, 78, of 1093 Mountain Road, died Friday, June 4, 1999, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born Aug. 15, 1920, in Halifax County, he was the son of John Willie Epps and Virginia Lee Epps.
He was married
to Mary Louise Ferrell Epps.
He was a member of Beth Car Baptist Church.
Survivors include his son, Charles Jackie Epps of Halifax.
He was predeceased by a sister, Lilian Epps Stevens.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday from Beth Car Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Melvin Bradshaw and the Rev. Dr. Charles Stewart officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove United Church of Christ cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Jerry Gammon
DANVILLE, Va. - Jerry Wayne Gammon Sr., 54, of 40 Sanford Road, died Friday afternoon, June 4, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center after one month of declining health.
Born Oct. 11, 1944, in Danville, he was the son of Paul Edward Gammon and Ruth White Gammon.
He spent most of his life in the Danville area, where he was a painter for Quality Construction. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of the React Team for seven years.
He was predeceased by two infant children.
Survivors include two sons, Jerry Wayne Gammon Jr. of Norfolk and James Edward Gammon of Danville; four brothers, Neal Gammon of Blairs, William "Billy" Gammon of Tampa, Fla., Darrell Gammon and David Gammon both of Pelham, N.C.; and three sisters, Nancy Ann Terry of Leasburg, N.C., Bettie Marie Nichols of Tunstall and Wanda K. Brewer of Danville.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Monday at the Gammon family cemetery on Meadowview Road with the Rev. Johnny Jones officiating.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. today at Swicegood Funeral Home and at other times at the residence of his sister, Bettie Nichols, at 180 Sharon Lane in Tunstall.
Eugene Hanks
DANVILLE, Va. - Eugene Alvin Hanks, 55, of 3733 Franklin Turnpike, died at 1 p.m. Friday, June 4, 1999, at his residence.
Born Dec. 30, 1943, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Elijah Hanks and Ruby Mayes Hanks and foster parents Owen Hanks and Rosa Hanks.
He was married
Feb. 17, 1967, to Annie Mae Bryant Hanks, who survives.
He was a member of Mount Hermon Baptist Church. He was employed as a doffer helper for Dan River, Inc.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include one daughter, Sandra H. Spencer of Ringgold; two sisters, Gladys Guill of Danville and Pearl Carwthon of Chicago; one brother, Edward Hanks of Ringgold; and four half-brothers, Donnie Hanks, Larry Hanks, Gary Hanks and Bobby Hanks, all of Danville.
He was also predeceased by one brother, Anthony Hanks.
A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Barker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Don Davidson and the Rev. Tommy Deal officiating. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.

Mattie Pryor
DANVILLE, Va. - Mattie Raney Pryor, 87, of 222 Courtland St., died Saturday morning, June 5, 1999, at Riverside Health Care Center after three years of declining health and a two-month stay at the nursing home.
Born in Grenada, Miss., on June 1, 1912, she was the daughter of Willie Earl Raney and Pearl Webb Raney.
Her husband, Harvey Pryor, died July 8, 1968.
She was also predeceased by a son, Bobby Pryor; and a daughter, Margie Pryor Phelps.
She spent most of her life in Danville, where she was a homemaker and a member of Westover Drive Church of God.
Survivors include two sons, Willie Lee Prior of Danville and Steve P. Pryor of Dry Fork; one daughter, Frances Pryor Arnold of Danville; one sister, Barbara Raney of Danville; 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Floyd Carter Sr. and the Rev. Kenneth Barnes officiating. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.

Allen Pugh
DANVILLE, Va. - W. Allen Pugh, 71, of 178 Cumberland Drive, died Saturday, June 5, 1999, at his residence after a decline in health since March.
Born Aug. 16, 1927, in Danville, he was the son of the late Arch S. Pugh and Marsella Huff Pugh.
He was married
to Edna Chilton Pugh, who survives.
He was predeceased by a son, Andrew Scott Pugh.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II.
He spent most of his life in Danville where he worked for Dan River Inc. as an over-the-road driver before retiring in 1989. He attended Full Gospel Fellowship Church.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include two sons, Walter A. Pugh Jr. of Danville and James S. Pugh of Tillery, N.C.; one daughter, Susie P. Dixon of Danville; one brother, Frederick B. Pugh of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and four sisters, Alma P. Nance of Nashville, Tenn., Virginia P. Yeatts, Bobbie P. East and Frances P. Cooper, all of Danville; and six grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Roger L. Ewing officiating.

Ostella Reynolds
CALLANDS, Va. - Ostella Oakes Reynolds, 89, of 1539 Ivory Branch Road, died Saturday, June 5, 1999, at 676 Triangle School Road.
Born Jan. 21, 1910, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Cephas Oakes and Elizabeth Reynolds.
She was married
to Frank Reynolds, who predeceased her.
Survivors include two sons, Ceph Edwards Reynolds and Tom Reynolds, both of Callands.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, June 12, at Oak Ridge Christian Church.
The family will be at the sons' residence, 676 Triangle School Road.

Inez Wilson
DANVILLE, Va. - Inez Marguerite English Wilson, 75, of 149 Executive Court, Abingdon Place, died Friday, June 4, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center after nine months of declining health.
Born June 1, 1924, in Campbell County, she was the daughter of George Pierce English and Nolia Malvella Law English.
She was married
Feb. 14, 1953, to Seward Johnson Wilson Jr., who survives.
She worked for a short time with the government in Washington, D.C. and in 1947 moved to the Danville area where she was employed at Brown's Jewelry and was also employed with Clement and Wheatley as a legal secretary. She went to work at Danville Vault Corp. in 1957 as secretary and bookkeeper and in 1968, she became business manager for Danville Vault Co., Russell's Paint Center, and Hi and Dri Storage prior to her retirement in 1998. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and the Bridgettes Bridge Club. She graduated from Altavista High School in 1941, and was a graduate of Lynchburg Business College.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include one daughter, Marguerite Veniece Burlage of Virginia Beach; one son, S.J. Wilson III of Jacksonville, N.C.; two sisters, Juanita Frances English Willis and Annette English McQuinn, both of Danville; three brothers, Wendell Blair English of Danville, Roland DeLafayette English of Newport News,
and Harold Thomas English of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and one grandchild.
She was predeceased by one brother, George Pierce English Jr. and one sister, Claudette English.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with the Rev. Paul Johnson officiating. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.

T. Dale Young
RINGGOLD, Va. - T. Dale Young, 74, of 2523 Tom Fork Road, died Friday, June 4, 1999, at his residence after six months of declining health.
Born July 2, 1924, in Keokuk, Iowa, he was the son of Charles William Young and Iva Huston Young.
He was married
November 20, 1942, to Elizabeth Merchant Young, who predeceased him.
He served in the United States Navy during World War II. He lived most of his life in the Danville and Pittsylvania County areas where prior to his retirement, he worked for Disston Inc. as a consultant. He was a member of Schoolfield Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Tracy Lynn Young of the residence; one son, Ted Young of Danville; and two grandchildren.
He was predeceased by three brothers.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. today at Danville Memory Gardens with the Rev. David Turbyfill officiating. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Billy Farmer
RINGGOLD, Va. - William Thomas Farmer, 62, of 3668 Rocksprings Road, Lot #4, died Sunday, June 6, 1999 at his residence.
Born Nov. 6, 1936 in Halifax County, Farmer was the son of the late Tap Binford Farmer and Betty W. Farmer Durham, who survives.
Farmer lived most of his life in Pittsylvania County and worked for Jarrett Welding Company. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by two daughters, Rose Ann Barber and Billie Joe Francis, both of Danville; three sisters, Paulette Sinclair, Betty Allgood and Rosa Mae Tate, all of Danville; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was predeceased by one brother, Richard Tap Farmer.
