Elaine Gunter Dalton
DANVILLE, Va. - Elaine Gunter Dalton, 81, formerly of 602 Arlington Road, died Friday, Oct. 25, 2002, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home, where she had been a resident since January 2000.
She was born in Danville on Dec. 18, 1920, a daughter of James Harry Gunter and Mary Elizabeth Terry Gunter.
On June 15, 1947, she married Orell Dennis Dalton Sr., who predeceased her Sept. 16, 1988.
She was a graduate of George Washington High School. She worked at L. Herman's and was secretary at Keen Street Baptist Church for 20 years.
She and her husband owned and operated the Nor Dan Western Auto Store. The also owned and operated Dalton's Auto Sales, Inc. and they were members of the Virginia Independent Automobile Dealers Association for over 30 years.
She was a lifetime member of the VIADA Ladies Auxiliary, having served in each office, and was a member of the Board of Directors.
She was an active member of West Main Baptist Church, the W.M.U., Fidelis Sunday School Class and the Echo Group.
She is survived by a son, Orell Dennis Dalton, Jr. of Athens, Ga.; three daughters, Patricia Leigh Dalton of Charlottesville, Doris Dalton Thornton of Danville, and Betsye Dalton Gilley of Ridgeway; a foster brother, Phillip Jerome Woodall of Baltimore, Md.; a foster sister, Linda Woodall Lacy of Richmond; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at West Main Baptist Church with the Rev. Bruce Wilson, the Rev. Thomas Brown and Margaret Wayland officiating. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family received friends Saturday at Townes Funeral Home from 7-8:30 p.m. and at other times will be at the residence of daughter, Doris Thornton, 804 Franklin Turnpike.

Raymond T. Doss Sr.
DANVILLE, Va. - Raymond T. Doss, Sr., 79, of 1494 Ferry Road, Danville, VA died October 25, 2002 at his residence.
He was born August 17, 1923 in Gretna, VA, to Lundy Doss and Mary Hardy Doss, both deceased.
Mr. Doss was retired from Dan River Mills and was a member of Stokesland Church of the Brethren. He was a veteran of the Army, serving in WWII and Korea. He had been an avid hunter for years and raised livestock.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Lee Ferguson Doss; one daughter Mary Frances Ellington and her husband James Ellington of Danville; two sons, Raymond Thomas "Tommy" Doss and his wife the Rev. Sarah Doss and Richard P. "Rick" Doss and his wife Dixie Doss, all of Danville; four brothers, Ruben Doss, Leroy Doss, Frank Doss and William Doss, all of Gretna; four sisters, Shirley Mills and Mary Jane Collins, both of Gretna, Irene Floyd of Richmond and Bernice Owens of Gretna; three grandchildren, Michelle Wade of Danville, Sarah Fields of Wilmington, N.C. and Thomas Doss, III of Danville; and one great-granddaughter, Savanah Wade of Danville.
He is predeceased by one brother, Harold Doss and one sister, Ethel Dalton.
A graveside funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, October 27, 2002 at Danville Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Sarah Doss officiating.

Robert Wayne Grasty Sr.
DANVILLE, Va. - Robert Wayne Grasty Sr., 58, of 824 Valley St., died Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born May 5, 1944, in Pelham, N.C., he was the son of Charlie and Willie Ann Grasty.
He was married to Susie Grasty.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Robert Wayne Grasty Jr. of Sutherlin; five daughters, Lesia Banks of Fort Washington, Md., Deborah Banks of Alexandria, Sharon Banks of Stone Mountain, Ga., Margaret Banks of Danville and Keisha Mitchell of New York City; three sisters, Louise Motley of Pelham, N.C., Christine Grasty of Wilmington, Del. and Clara Jeffries of Danville; and three brothers, Willie Grasty of Danville, Edmond Grasty of Leesville, La. and Charlie Grasty of Akin, S.C.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jerome Morris Sr. officiating. Interment will follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens.

Clinton Lewis Gregory
DANVILLE, Va. - Clinton Lewis Gregory, 86, formerly of 112 Westview Place, died Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, at Riverside Health Care Center.
Born Dec. 16, 1915, in Henry County, he was the son of Russell Gregory and Geneva Wyatt Gregory.
He was a member of County Line Christian Church and was a retired carpenter.
He was married to Dorothy Austin Gregory, who predeceased him.
He is survived by two sons, Kenneth Gregory and Russell Gregory, both of Danville; two sisters, Helen Scarce of Clarksville and Verna Reynolds of Danville; two brothers, Hassell Gregory of Callands and Wesley Gregory of Axton; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by a brother, Douglas Gregory.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Monday at County Line Christian Church with the Rev. Dean Ashby and the Rev. J.D. Hunt officiating. Interment will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday at County Line Christian Church and at other times will be at the residence of his son, Kenneth Gregory, 116 Westview Place.

Lois Lovelace Giles Jones
CHATHAM, Va. - Lois Lovelace Giles Jones, 99, of 4789 Irish Road, died Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home.
Born May 18, 1903, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Christopher Columbus Giles and Virginia Thompkins Giles.
She taught school in the county for 35 years at Callands, Whitmell and Schoolfield. She was a member of Hopewell United Methodist Church.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was one of eleven children, all of whom predeceased her.
The graveside funeral will be held 1 p.m. Monday at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. W. Clay Knick officiating.

Brenda Kaye Robertson
DANVILLE, Va. - Brenda Kaye Robertson of 150 Alpine Drive went to be with Jesus October 25, 2002.
Miss Robertson was a native of Danville born August 6, 1952. She was the foster daughter of the late Kim and Scott Ewing. She is the daughter of John H. Robertson, who survives and Mary Bryant Robertson, who is deceased. Her entire life was spent in Danville where she was employed by Dan River, Inc. for 29 years. She was a graduate of George Washington High School and Danville Community College. She attended Westover Family Worship Center.
Surviving are one brother and three sisters: The Rev. Jerry Robertson, Judy Haymore, Sylvia Mann, and Deborah Price all of Danville. Two foster sisters, Frances Williamson and Nina Payne, both of Danville. One foster brother, Stuart Ewing of Danville.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the Swicegood Chapel by the Rev. Roger Ewing. Internment will be in Highland Burial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday night from 7:00 until 8:30 o'clock. At other times, the family will be at the residence of her sister, Sylvia R. Mann, 191 Nelson Ave.
Phyllis Glendale Walker
DANVILLE, Va. - Phyllis Glendale Walker, 53, of 128 Flint St., Danville, died Monday, Oct. 21, 2002 at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 9, 1949, in Danville, she was the daughter of Willard Walker, who predeceased her and Helen Boyd Walker, who survives.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by three sisters, Regina Diane Walker, Paulette Carter and Juanesta Carter, all of Danville; and one brother, Terry Walker of Los Angeles, Calif.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Monday at the Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kevin McNeil officiating. Interment will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery.

Vernon Dave Dodson
YANCEYVILLE, N.C. - Vernon Dave Dodson, 73, of 87 Oak View Loop Road, died Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Sept. 21, 1929, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Roy Wister Dodson and Myrtle Owen Dodson.
He was married to Christine Gammon Dodson, who survives. He was retired from Hanford Brick Company and was a member of Grace Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife of the residence, he is survived by two daughters, Linda D. Cross and Susan Mumford, both of Burlington; two sons, David Dodson of Yanceyville and Alan Dodson of Elon College; one brother, Glen Dodson of Yanceyville; two sisters, Cecil Blair of Danville, Va. and Mary Ola Mashall of Md.; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Grace Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Underwood officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Katherine Rebecca Davis Ferguson
DANVILLE, Va. - Katherine Rebecca Davis Ferguson, 84, of 231 Eagle Lane, died Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002 at her residence, following several years of declining health.
She was the adopted daughter of Amos and Virginia Davis, both deceased; and her biological father and mother, Willie Moore and Ethel Davis Moore, also both deceased.
She was born March 13, 1918 in Pittsylvania County. She lived her life in the Danville and Pittsylvania County areas, where prior to her retirement she and her husband owned and operated Mrs. Harry's Homemade Pies. She was a member of The Tabernacle.
She was married January 29, 1935 to Harry Shannon Ferguson, who died Nov. 7, 1997.
Survivors include two daughters, Peggy F. Barker and Jeanette F. Fitch, both of Ringgold; and one son, Harry Ray Ferguson of Danville; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was the last surviving member of her generation.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. R.J. Barber Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Burial Park.

Ruby Busick Franklin
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Ruby Busick Franklin, 92, of 103 Rosehill Drive, died Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002, at Woodview.
Born June 22, 1910, in Halifax County, she was the daughter of Robert Samuel Busick and Barbara Lillian Ferrell Busick.
She was of the Methodist faith.
She is survived by a nephew, Riley S. Busick of Richmond; and a great-niece, Wanda B. Murray of South Boston.
She was predeceased by her husband, Otto Franklin; a brother, Howard M. Busick; a sister, Hallie B. Lipscomb; and a niece, Barbara Ewell.
The funeral will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at Oak Ridge Cemetery with the Rev. Richard Saunders officiating.

Robert Lee Gray
DANVILLE, Va. - Robert Lee Gray, 40, of 231 Indian Valley Road, Lot 13, died Sunday, Sept. 22, 2002, at his residence.
Born Aug. 6, 1962, in Danville, he was the son of James Daniel Gray Sr. and Edith Motley Gray Dalton, who both survive.
He was born and lived most of his life in Danville and worked as a dry wall installer in construction. He was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his parents of Danville, he is survived by a wife, Donna Gent Gray of the residence; a stepmother, Jeanette Odum Gray of Danville; and two brothers, Charles Howard Gray of Ga. and James Daniel Gray Jr. of Roanoke.

Robert Keith Lipscomb
DANVILLE, Va. - Robert Keith Lipscomb, of Wellington Place, died Monday, Sept. 16, 2002.
He was born in Charlotte County July 2, 1936 son of Maude Elder Lipscomb of Brookneal and the late Colgate Lipscomb.
He was a member of Grace-Design United Methodist Church and a retired senior vice-president of the leaf division of Dibrell Brothers Tobacco Company.
He is survived by one daughter, Sandra Leigh Lipscomb of Danville; one brother, James Lipscomb of Spring Garden; five sisters, Peggy Montgomery, Debbie Lacks, both of Brookneal, Gale Guthrie of Lynchburg, Glenda Guthrie of Nathalie and June Smith of Matthews.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Michael Lipscomb and Mark Lipscomb; a daughter, Janet Lipscomb; and a brother, Randy Lipscomb.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church by the Rev. Earnest Hogge and the Rev. Bonnie Pizzeck with interment to follow in the church cemetery.
