Gus "Junior" Gravley
CHATHAM, Va. - Gus "Junior" Gravley, 66, of 408 Country Road, died Monday, August 2, 1999, at his residence.
Born Feb. 28, 1933, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Joe Gravley and Pearl Law Gravley.
He was married
to May Aileen Gravley, who predeceased him.
He attended Pittsylvania County Schools and was retired from the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. He was a member of Union Hall Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons, Gary Graveley of Newport News, Tony Gravley of Danville and Keith Gravley of Spring Garden; three sisters, Caroline Thaxton of Oakland, Calif., Audrey L'Lyle of Susson, Calif., and Lillie Pritchett of Danville; one brother, Joe Gravley of Dry Fork, and one grandchild.
A funeral will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Union Hall Baptist Church with the Pastor Sherman Craft officiating. Burial will be in church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Curtis Greene
RICHMOND, Va. - Curtis Foster Greene, 87, died Monday, August 2, 1999, after a decline in health. He was born on Jan. 22, 1912, a son of James Greene and Sarah Ashworth Greene.
He was married
to Virginia Scarce Greene, who died in 1968.
He was a veteran of World War II, having serving in the United States Army.
He retired from Pilot Life Insurance Company and was a former member of the Lion's Club.
He was a lifelong member of the Calvary United Methodist Church (now St. Luke's United Methodist Church).
He is survived by a daughter, Susan Greene Alverson of Richmond; two brothers, Harvey Greene of Norfolk, and Burnell Greene of Williamsburg; one sister, Esther G. Easley of Pelham, N.C.; and two grandchildren, Jennifer Alverson and Derek Foster Alverson, both of New York City.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. from Townes Memorial Chapel by the Rev. Ron Mateer. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at Townes Funeral Home Wednesday from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. and at other times will be at the home of Betty and Donald Garrett, 401 Garden Drive, Dry Fork, Va.

Nannie Reynolds
CALLANDS, Va. - Nannie Kendrick Reynolds, 82, of 773 Barn Road, died Tuesday, August 3, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Feb. 1, 1917, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of William Thomas Kendrick and Mary Mays Kendrick.
She was married
to Robert Edwin Reynolds, who predeceased her.
She was a member of County Line Christian Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Janice Reynolds Doss of Danville, Betty Reynolds McDaniel of Martinsville and Joyce Reynolds Mahan of Danville; two sons, Wesley H. Reynolds and Jackie E. Reynolds, both of Axton; one brother, Noel E. Kendrick of Callands; three sisters, Mamie K. Oakes, Maebyrd K. Bernard and Louise K. Hankins, all of Martinsville; 19 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by two sons, Danny Gail Reynolds and Robert Terry Reynolds; and two brothers, William O. Kendrick and Jimmy H. Kendrick.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at County Line Christian Church with the Rev. Dean Ashby and the Rev J.D. Hunt III officiating. Burial will be in church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. today at the church and at other times at the residence.

Junior Richardson
DANVILLE, Va. - Hugh Gordon Richardson Jr., 43, of 2001 South Boston Road, died Sunday, Aug. 1, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center Emergency Room after four years of declining health.
Born Jan. 7, 1956, in Danville, he was the son of Hugh Gordon Richardson Sr. and Nancy Reece Richardson, who both survive.
He was married
June 28, 1975, to Susan Paul Richardson, who also survives.
He lived all of his life in Pittsylvania County and Danville. He worked with the City of Danville Public Works Department prior to working with Apac of Virginia in Plant Maintenance prior to his decline in health. He was a member of the Central Boulevard Church of God and a member of the Danville Air Modelers Club.
In addition to his parents of Danville, and wife of the residence, survivors include one sister, Joan R. Barksdale of Danville, one brother, Donald (Donnie) Wayne Richardson of Ringgold; and one son Hugh Gordon Richardson, III of the residence.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. David Wilson officiating. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.

Mozelle Shelton
DRY FORK, Va. - Mozelle Stowe Shelton, 68, of 940 Dry Fork Road, died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 1999, at Duke University Medical Center.
Born Nov. 15, 1930, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Russell Stowe and Dannie Fowlkes Stowe.
She was married
to Russell A. Shelton, who survives.
She worked for Dan River Inc. for 45 years. She was a member of Blessed Hope Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include one daughter, Vicky Sue Wilson of Staunton; one son, Dallas Shelton of the residence; one sister, Rossie Saunders of Danville; one brother, Elton Stowe of Dry Fork; and two grandchildren.
He was predeceased by one son, Ricky Wayne Shelton.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Scott Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Brian Edwards and the Rev. Charles Arnold officiating. Burial will be in Oakland United Methodist Church cemetery.

DANVILLE, Va. - Lucille Thomas, 85, of 512 Chatelaine Ave., died Friday, July 30, 1999, at her residence.
Born Oct. 29, 1913, in Lake City, S.C., she was the daughter of John Thomas and Lillie McFadden Thomas.
She was a member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sisters, Emma Williams of Danville and Jessie Mae Timons of Lake City, S.C.

Minnie Allred
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Minnie Wooldridge Allred, 88, of 1515 Wilborn Ave., died Tuesday, August 3, 1999, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born August 1, 1911, in Halifax County, she was the daughter of Aubrey W. Wooldridge and Sue Evans Wooldridge.
She was married
to John Ralph Allred.
She was a homemaker and a charter member of the South Boston Church of God.
Survivors include two sons, Ralph M. "Bee" Allred of Chase City, and James D. "Jim" Allred of South Boston; two daughters, Betty A. Powell of South Boston and Jere A. Ferguson of Halifax; 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchidren and one great-great-grandchild.
In addition to her husband, she was also predeceased by one son, Roland Allred.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bill Leonard officiating. Burial will be in Oak Ridge cemetery.

DANVILLE, Va. - Willie Mae Osborne Cassada, 83, of 2544 Airview Drive, died Wednesday, August 4, 1999, at Roman Eagle Nursing Home.
Born Nov. 21, 1915, in Halifax County, she was the daughter of Henry David Osborne and Frances Berdie Osborne.
She was married
May 4, 1962, to Douglas Clarence "DEE" Cassada, who survives.
She worked at Dan River Inc. until retirement as a sewer. She was a member of the Baptist Tabernacle, where she was a former Sunday school teacher.
In addition to her husband, survivors include three sons, Clyde Doss and Lester Doss, both of Danville and Calvin Doss of Martinsville; two brothers, Allen Osborne of Baltimore, and Cliff Osborne of Florida; three sisters, Thelma Eanes of South Boston, Roe Dance of Durham, N.C., and Elizabeth Gardener of Burlington, N.C.; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Baptist Tabernacle with the Rev. R.J. Barber Jr. and the Rev. Lammar Mooneyham and the Rev. Robert Vermillion officiating. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.

Born Jan. 14, 1989, in Halifax County, Va., she was the daughter of Clyde Garnett Throckmorton and Betty Thaxton Throckmorton.
Survivors include three sisters, Cheryl Thompson of South Boston, and Robin Throckmorton of South Boston, and Terri Adams Debord of Greensboro, N.C; and grandmother, Joyce Daniel of Halifax.
She was predeceased by a father, Clyde Garnett Throckmorton; a mother, Betty Thaxton Throckmorton.
