Dink Towler
DANVILLE, Va. - James "Dink" Winslow Towler, 71, of 621 Main St., died Monday, August 2, 1999, at his residence.
Born Sept. 10, 1927, in Pittsylvania County, Va., he was the son of Sam Henry Towler and Pearl Carter Towler.
He served in the United States Army. He was educated in Pittsylvania County School system and was employed at Dan River Inc. for many years.
Survivors include two daughters, E. Jeanette T. Davis and Sandra T. Poteat, both of Blairs; two sisters, Dorothy King of Danville and Pearl Drayton of Englewood, N.J.; three brothers, Hobson Towler and Clarence Towler, both of Danville, and Maxwell Towler of Arlington.
A funeral will be 3 p.m. Friday at Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Steve Reid officiating. Burial will be in New Sandy Creek Baptist Church cemetery, Keeling, Va., with military rites conducted by the American Legion Post No. 325.
The family will receive friends at the residence of his brother, Hobson Towler, 4781 Old Richmond Road, Danville.
James Weston
WOODSIDE, N.Y. - James Burnell Weston, 67, of 133 Watlinton Court, died Saturday, July 31, 1999, at his residence.
Born Sept. 30, 1931, in Hattiesburg, Miss.
He was married
to Iola Eston who survives.
In addition to his wife of Woodside, survivors include two daughters, Jane Veston and Janet Benbow; two sons, James Weston and Gary Weston.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Crawford, Garrett and Burton Funeral Home with the Rev. Joe Dixon officiating. Burial will be in County Line Baptist Church cemetery.

Jerry Williams
ROANOKE, Va. - Jerry Dean Williams, 73, of 3406 Kim Court #B8, died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 1999, at Lewis Gale Hospital in Salem, after one week and several years of declining health.
Born July 22, 1926, in Polk County, N.C., he was the son of Claude O. Williams and Daisy Shechan Williams.
He was married
to Elizabeth Newby Williams, who survives.
He served in the United States Navy in World War II. He had been living in the Roanoke area for the past 11 years where he owned and operated Misty Meadows Produce and also in 1989, had retired from ITT, after years of service. He was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include six sons, Roger Dale Williams of Dallas, N.C., Ronnie Jay Williams of Charlotte, N.C., Thomas Claude Williams and Timothy Charles Williams, both of Sanford, N.C., David Wayne Williams of Milton, N.C. and James Bruce Williams of Sanford, N.C.; one daughter, Jeri Lynn Greenwood of Thompson Station, Tenn.; one stepson, Edwin Atkinson Chaney, Jr. of South Boston, Va.; one stepdaughter Allison Chaney Wazeka of South Boston; two brothers, James B. Williams of Dryon, N.C., and Charles Williams of Statesville, N.C.; four sisters, Evelyn Crider of Dryon, N.C., Betty Jenkins and Maxine Stines, both of Dallas, N.C., and Annie Taylor of Concord, N.C.; and 17 grandchildren.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. Benny Church officiating. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.

Willie Womack Sr.
COCOA BEACH, Fla. - Willie B. Womack Sr., 68, of 1270 South Atlantic Ave., formerly of Halifax County, Va., died July 27, 1999, at his home.
Born Dec. 23, 1930, in Halifax County, Va., he was the son of Charlie Buck Womack and Ola Barksdale Womack.
He was married
to Susan Womack, who survive.
He was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife of Cocoa Beach, Fla., survivors include two sons, Willie Womack Jr. of Sarasota, Fla., and Charlie Womack of Cocoa Beach, Fla; two daughters, Virginia Ann Womack and Nita Womack Kerns, both of Vernon Hill; one brother, William "Bud" Womack of Vernon Hill; one sister, Patricia (Betty) Atkins of Marion, Va.; and three grandchildren.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Powell Funeral Home with the Rev. Tony Brooks officiating.
Athara "Toni" Riley Hunt
DANVILLE, Va. - Athara "Toni" Riley Hunt, 79, of 1640 Leemont Court, died Thursday, August 5, 1999, at Riverside Health Care Center after being a resident for three weeks.
Born Sept. 14, 1919, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of I.N. Riley and Annie Elizabeth Hollie Riley.
She was married
July 6, 1940, to Robert Carrington Hunt Jr., who predeceased her April 4, 1993.
She spent her entire life in Danville.
She was a secretary for the Virginia Department of Corrections Probation and Parole Office prior to retirement. She was a member of Grace-Design United Methodist Church.
She served as president of the Business and Professional Women in 1972 and 1973, and had served as Treasurer of Grace-Design United Methodist Church.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by two sisters, Vira R. Sides and Ruth R. Walker; and one brother, Odell Riley.
A graveside service will be 11 a.m. today at Leemont cemetery, Danville with the Rev. D. Scott Holcomb-McLain officiating.

Charlie Jennings
DANVILLE, Va. - Charlie Thomas Jennings, 85, of 108 Nor Dan Drive, died at 8:45 a.m. Thursday, August 5, 1999, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home of several years of declining health.
Born June 8, 1914, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Obie Thomas Jennings and Rosie Puckett Jennings.
He was married
Feb. 27, 1948, to Bernice Hall Jennings, who survive.
Mr. Jennings was a member and a deacon of Afton Road Primitive Baptist Church.
He was a graduate of Dan River High School and Averett College. He owned and operated Danville Insurance Agency, Sanitary Disposal Company and a bookkeeping and tax service for a number of years.
He was employed by Belk-Leggett as a manager of the insurance department prior to retirement. He was predeceased by two brothers, Matthew and Claire Jennings.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include two sons and daughter-in-laws, Donald and Sharon Jennings of Fort Walton Beach, Fla. and William and Chris Jennings of Richmond, Va.; one daughter and son-in-law, Katherine and Earl Emerson, Jr. of Danville; one grandson, Edward Emerson of Danville; three granddaughters, Charly Emerson of Danville, Meredith Jennings and Sarah Jennings, both of Richmond, Va.; one step-grandson, Rodney Larch of Little Rock, Ark.; three sisters, Etta Jennings and Margaret Lunsford, both of Danville and Hattie Graham of Richmond, Va.; one brother, Robert Jennings of Baltimore, Md. and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Afton Road Primitive Baptist Church with the Elder Dan Parker officiating. Interment

Joseph Terry Jr.
MACON, Ga. - Joseph Hamet Terry Jr., 76, of 3234 Clairmont Ave., died Tuesday, August 3, 1999, in Macon, Ga.
Born in Java, Va., he was the son of Joseph H. Terry Sr. and Frances Hall Terry.
He was married
to Madeline Scruggs Terry, who survives.
He moved from Roanoke, Va., to Macon, for the past 31 years. He was president of Continental Trailways Bus Lines, retiring after 35 years of service. He was a member of Riverside United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife, survivors include one daughter, Carolyn Bond of Vidalia; one son, Ruben Terry of Roanoke, Va., and three grandchildren. A graveside service will be 11:30 a.m. today at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Steven Greer officiating.

Geneva 'Eva' W. Price
DANVILLE, Va. - Geneva "Eva" W. Price, 207 Kings Court, died Thursday, Aug. 5, 1999, at her residence.
Born May 10, 1924, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Junius and Annie Wilson.
She was married
to George Thomas Price Sr., who predeceased her.
Survivors include three sons, James Price Sr. of Richmond, William Price of Charlotte, N.C., and Raymond Price of Lodi, Calif.; one sister, Vernell Irvin of Danville; one brother, Thomas West of Danville; and one half-brother, the Rev. John Henry West of Gretna.
A funeral will be held 1 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home with the Rev. Clarence McLaughlin officiating. Burial will be in Highland Burial Park.

James Edward Thompson
DANVILLE, Va.- James Edward Thompson, 70, 69 Dudley St., died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 1999, at his home.
Born Aug. 25, 1928, in Mullins, S.C., he was the son of Raiford Thompson Sr. and Julia Thompson.
Survivors include three sisters, Tiney Bell Boss of Greensboro, N.C., and Ella Mae Hamilton and Barbara Jean Crosland, both of Mullins, S.C.; and two brothers, Raiford Thompson Jr. of Danville and James Thompson of Greensboro, N.C.
Memorial services will be held 3 p.m. Monday at Beavers Funeral Home Chapel in Danville. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.

Charlie Gatewood
DANVILLE, Va. - Charlie F. Gatewood, 78, of 1619 Ferry Road, died Saturday, Aug. 7, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center after three months of declining health.
Born Sept. 22, 1920, in Stoneville, N.C., he was the son of Charlie H. Gatewood and Nannie Hughes Gatewood.
He was married
to Irene Hyler Gatewood, who survives.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II, having served in the Philippines.
He spent most of his life in Danville, where he was a supervisor in the spinning room for Dan River Inc. before retiring. He was a member of Stokesland United Methodist Church, where he was a former Sunday school teacher and former choir member and also served on several other boards for the church. He also was a member of the Dan River Retired Employees Club where he sang in the choir.
Survivors in addition to his wife of the residence include one daughter, Christine Spicer of Danville; five sisters, Rosa Yeatts and Gardia Roberts, both of Stoneville, Mamie Lipford and Ella Dorsett, both of Pelham, N.C., and Ruby Fundburg of Martinsville; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Marvin Gatewood and Melvin Gatewood.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gregg West and Rev. Stephen Lamb officiating. Interment
will follow at the Hickory Grove United Methodist Church cemetery in the Mayfield community of Rockingham County, N.C.

Charline Grinstead
DANVILLE, Va. - Eunice Charline Grinstead, of 121 Acorn Lane, died Sunday, Aug. 8, 1999.
Born on Oct. 16, 1916, in Marion, N.C., she was the daughter of Dewey Noblett and Mr. and Mrs. William Jennings Paxton.
She was married
to Carl Parker Grinstead, who predeceased her in November, 1971.
She was retired from Belk-Leggett after 25 years. She was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Carolyn Grinstead Wright of Danville; one half-sister, Dorothy Paxton McDaniel of Petersburg; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mountain View cemetery, with the Rev. George Neas officiating.

Eva Hunt
DANVILLE, Va. - Eva Davis Hunt, 73, of 320 Hampton Drive, died Sunday, Aug. 8, 1999, at Huntersville Oakes Nursing Home in Huntersville, N.C.
Born July 21, 1926, in Keeling, she was the daughter of Benjamin Davis and Cora Lee Richardson Davis.
She was married
to Tazwell Glenn "Buck" Hunt who died Feb. 24, 1991.
She was retired from Dan River Inc. after 45 years of service. She was a member of Moffett Memorial Baptist Church and the Dorcas Sunday School Class.
Survivors include one daughter, Cynthia H. Howard of Mooresville, N.C.; four sisters, Hattie Landrum and Nannie Reynolds of Danville, Polly Morris of Virgilina, and Hilda Young of Kernersville, N.C.; four brothers, W.H. "Buck" Davis and Robert Davis of Danville, Joe Davis of Pelham, N.C., and John Davis of Hampton.
A graveside service will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday at Red House Presbyterian Church cemetery in Semora, N.C., with the Rev. Lee Ellison and the Rev. Steve Carlton officiating.
