DANVILLE, Va. - Barbara Ann McLaughlin, 67, of 419 Tamworth Drive, died Saturday, Aug. 7, 1999, at her residence.
Born Nov. 8, 1931, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Sallie Gunter McLaughlin and Harry McLaughlin.
For most of her professional life, she was a licensed practical nurse.
Survivors include three sisters, Nannie McLaughlin of Danville, Laura Pritchett of Washington, D.C., and Eva Wimbush of Philadelphia; one brother, Edward McLaughlin of Richmond.
Funeral services will be conducted 10 a.m. Tuesday at Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home Chapel. Elder Matthew Scott will officiate. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the residence, 419 Tamworth Drive.
Gladys Snead
DANVILLE, Va. - Gladys Cleo Collins Snead, 84, of 4580 Horseshoe Road, died Saturday, Aug. 7, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center after one year of declining health.
Born March 28, 1915, in Washington County, she was the daughter of Plean Collins and Isabelle Stout Collins Ingram.
She was married
to James L. Snead, who predeceased her.
She spent most of her life in the Bachelors Hall community. She was a member of the Words of Life Chapel and worked for Dan River Inc. for 50 years before retiring.
Survivors include one son, George A. Snead of Bachelors Hall; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and two step-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Eugene Powell officiating. Interment
will follow at Schoolfield cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday 7-8:30 p.m., and at other times at the residence in the Bachelors Hall community.
Thomas Wilson
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Thomas Lee Wilson, 75, of 1056 Virgie Cole Road, died Sunday, Aug. 8, 1999, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born Sept. 30, 1923, in Halifax County, he was the son of James "Jim Bob" Wilson and Dora Tuck Wilson.
He was married
to Mary Blount Wilson, who survives.
He was an Army veteran, having served during World War II. He was a farmer, and a member of North Fork Baptist Church in Virgilina, and the Woodman of the World Camp 106 of South Boston.
In addition to his wife of South Boston, survivors include one daughter, Cheryl W. Clark of South Boston; one sister, Hilda W. Roller of Clover; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and six sisters.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at North Fork Baptist Church in Virgilina, with the Rev. Bill LaWall and the Rev. Russell Pedigo officiating.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Brooks Funeral Home, 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, and at other times at the residence.
Andrew Anderson Sr.
CALLANDS, Va. - Andrew Anderson Sr., 67, of 649 Wyatt Farm Road, died Saturday, August 7, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born May 3, 1932, in Franklin County, he was the son of Roscoe Anderson and Sallie Swanson Anderson.
He was married
to Blanche Niblett Anderson, who survives.
He worked for many years at American Furniture Company prior to his retirement.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include five sons, Andrew A. Anderson, Jr. of Martinsville, Dennis A. Anderson and Dean N. Anderson, both of Callands, Kenneth M. Anderson and Jeffrey L. Anderson, both of the residence; four sisters, Thelma Wilson of Cascade, Gladys Carter of Axton, Lucille McKenzie of Callands, and Evelyn Lewis of New Rochelle, N.Y.; three brothers, Geter Anderson of Winston Salem, N.C., Lloyd Anderson of Fayetteville, N.C. and Conrad Anderson of Eldorado, Ark; and two grandchildren.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Bethel Way of the Cross Church with Bishop Joseph Adams officiating. Burial will be in Sharon Grove Baptist Church cemetery.

Robert Carter
DANVILLE, Va. - Robert Henry Carter, 76, of 250 Winslow St., died Wednesday, August 4, 1999, at Duke University Medical Center, Durham, N.C.
Born Dec. 7, 1922, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Thomas Carter and Velma Taylor Carter.
He was employed with various companies in the construction industry. He was a veteran of the United States Army.
Survivors include one daughter, Doretha Allen of Washington, D.C.; one sister, Savannah Stone of Chicago, Ill; and two brothers, Walter Carter Sr. and Roy Carter, both of Portsmouth.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James Stewart officiating.
The family will receive friends at the residence of Viola Martin, 325 Lincoln St., Danville.
Charlie Gatewood
DANVILLE, Va. - Charlie F. Gatewood, 78, of 1619 Ferry Road, died Saturday, Aug. 7, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center after three months of declining health.
Born Sept. 22, 1920, in Stoneville, N.C., he was the son of Charlie H. Gatewood and Nannie Hughes Gatewood.
He was married
to Irene Hyler Gatewood, who survives.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II, having served in the Philippines.
He spent most of his life in Danville, where he was a supervisor in the spinning room for Dan River Inc. before retiring. He was a member of Stokesland United Methodist Church, where he was a former Sunday school teacher and former choir member and also served on several other boards for the church. He also was a member of the Dan River Retired Employees Club where he sang in the choir.
Survivors in addition to his wife of the residence include one daughter, Christine Spicer of Danville; five sisters, Rosa Yeatts and Gardia Roberts, both of Stoneville, Mamie Lipford and Ella Dorsett, both of Pelham, N.C., and Ruby Fundburg of Martinsville; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Marvin Gatewood and Melvin Gatewood.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. today at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gregg West and Rev. Stephen Lamb officiating. Interment
will follow at the Hickory Grove United Methodist Church cemetery in the Mayfield community of Rockingham County, N.C.

Charline Grinstead
DANVILLE, Va. - Eunice Charline Grinstead, of 121 Acorn Lane, died Sunday, Aug. 8, 1999.
Born on Oct. 18, 1916, in McDowell County, N.C., she was the daughter of Dewey Noblett and Mr. and Mrs. William Jennings Paxton.
She was married
to Carl Parker Grinstead, who predeceased her in November, 1971.
She was retired from Belk-Leggett after 25 years. She was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Carolyn Grinstead Garrett of Danville; one half-sister, Dorothy Paxton McDaniel of Petersburg; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mountain View cemetery, with the Rev. George Neas officiating.

Eva Hunt
DANVILLE, Va. - Eva Davis Hunt, 73, of 320 Hampton Drive, died Sunday, Aug. 8, 1999, at Huntersville Oakes Nursing Home in Huntersville, N.C.
Born July 21, 1926, in Keeling, she was the daughter of Benjamin Davis and Cora Lee Richardson Davis.
She was married
to Tazwell Glenn "Buck" Hunt who died Feb. 24, 1991.
She was retired from Dan River Inc. after 45 years of service. She was a member of Moffett Memorial Baptist Church and the Dorcas Sunday School Class.
Survivors include one daughter, Cynthia H. Howard of Mooresville, N.C.; four sisters, Hattie Landrum and Nannie Reynolds of Danville, Polly Morris of Virgilina, and Hilda Young of Kernersville, N.C.; four brothers, W.H. "Buck" Davis and Robert Davis of Danville, Joe Davis of Pelham, N.C., and John Davis of Hampton; and one granddaughter.
A graveside service will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday at Red House Presbyterian Church cemetery in Semora, N.C., with the Rev. Lee Ellison and the Rev. Steve Carlton officiating.

DANVILLE, Va. - Ruth L. Millner, 67, of 262 Winslow St., died Sunday, Aug. 8, 1999, at her residence.
Born Dec. 3, 1931, she was the daughter of Harry Elam.
She was married
to Richard Millner Jr. who predeceased her.
She was employed as a cook at The Charcoal House Restaurant for many years.
Survivors include five daughters, Brenda Elder, Patricia Johnson and Gwendolyn White, all of Danville, Linda Patterson of Richmond and Tonja Chaney of Fredrick, Md.; one son, Richard Miller III of Durham, N.C.; one brother, Albert Elam of Akron, Ohio; four sisters, Ada Oliver and Rebecca Clark, both of Danville, Anne Lynn of New York, N.Y. and Dorothy Danner of Santa Rosa, Calif.
A funeral will be 4 p.m. Wednesday at New Hope Apostolic Church with Bishop Major Hairston officiating. Interment

DANVILLE, Va. - Maskin Walters, 75, of 521 Edmonds St., died Friday August 6, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born May 6, 1924, he was the son of John Walters and Mary Lester Walters.
He was married
to Rebecca Brown Walters, who survives.
He was of the Baptist Faith. He worked with Dibrell Bros. Tobacco Company and the City of Danville Sanitation Department.
In addition to his wife of Danville, survivors include five daughters, Patricia Walters, Anita Davis, Tanya Walters, Angela Payne and Connie Hood, all of Danville; four sons, Demetrius Davis, Wayne Davis and Tony Davis, all of Danville and Alven Davis of New York City; 21 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. today at L.H. Brooks Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jesse Swann officiating. Interment
