Daniel Coleman Mitchell
DANVILLE, Va. - Daniel Coleman Mitchell, 79, of 9 Laurel Avenue, died Sunday, Sept. 22, 2002, at Danville Regional Medical Center after a four month decline in health.
Born Jan. 10, 1923, in Dry Fork, he was the son of Beverly Cabell Mitchell, who predeceased him and Laila Cousins Harrell Mitchell, who survives.
Most of his life was spent in Danville where he was employed at Dan River, Inc. prior to his retirement. He married the former Dorothy Craddock, who predeceased him on Nov. 5, 2001. He was a member of Sheldon Baptist Church and the American Legion. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army.
In addition to his mother of Danville, he is survived by two sisters, Ethel M. Taylor of Lynchburg and Hallie M. Amos of Callands.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Swicegood Chapel with the Rev. Kenneth Hall officiating. Interment will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Monday at Swicegood Funeral Home and at other times at the residence.

Kathryn Woody Sager
TARBORO, N.C. - Mrs. Kathryn Woody Sager died Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002 in Tarboro, North Carolina.
Born August 29, 1921 in Greensboro, North Carolina, Mrs. Sager moved to Danville, Virginia in 1932.
After graduating from Stephens College in St. Louis, Missouri, she received a degree in Art from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Mrs. Sager married Dr. Frederick Newman Sager in 1948. She then moved back to Danville where she resided until 1997 at which time she moved to the Fountains of the Albermarle in Tarboro, North Carolina.
Mrs. Sager is survived by her daughter, Sydney Sager Womack and husband, David Harris Womack of Greenville, North Carolina; her son, Frederick Newman Sager Jr. and wife, Jane Bricard Sager of Atlanta, Georgia; and five grandchildren, Thomas Bradsher Womack of Raleigh, North Carolina, Kathryn Womack Lipton and husband, Daniel Kendrick Upton Jr. of Wilmington, North Carolina, Frederick Newman Sager III, Anne Richmond Sager and Eleanor Bricard Sager of Atlanta, Georgia.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2002 at 3 p.m. at Mountain View Cemetery by the Reverend Jonathan Bennett.

Vivian W. Stout
BASSETT, Va. - Vivian W. Stout, 81, of 61 Colston Drive, died Sunday, Sept. 22, 2002, at Stanleytown Health Care.
Born July 24, 1921, in Henry County, she was the daughter of Edward Dorsey Wilson and Mary Lillian Gauldin Wilson.
She was retired from E.I. Dupont and attended Fort Trial Christian Church.
She is survived by her husband, Charlie C. Stout of the residence; a daughter, Janice Kellam of Daytona Beach, Fla.; one grandchild and two great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Elva Wilson and Lottie McDaniel; and four brothers, Herman, Lawrence, Howard and Clyde Wilson.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Fort Trial Christian Church with Minister Marshall McCrickard officiating. Interment will be in Roselawn Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Monday at Fort Trial Christian Church and at other times at the residence.

Clarice Wade
DANVILLE, Va. - Clarice Jean Hobbs Wade, 62, of 188 Mountain Hill Road, died Saturday, September 21, 2002 in Danville Regional Medical Center after a lengthy illness. She had been in the hospital for the past two weeks.
Born November 20, 1939, she was the daughter of the late John Clinton Hobbs and Ruth Boswell Hobbs, who survives.
Mrs. Wade had lived all of her life in the Providence Community and in Danville. She had retired from Dan River Inc. with 42 years of service where she worked as a wrap attendant. Mrs. Wade was of the Baptist faith and she was a member of the Ladies Auxillary of V.F.W. Post 647 and she had been very active in ladies sports and in music all of her life along with being a very devoted wife and mother to her immediate family as well as to her extended family.
She married Wallace Neal Wade July 26, 1958.
Survivors include husband, Wallace Neal Wade of the residence; son and wife, Jeff and Connie Kendrick Wade of Danville; mother, Ruth Boswell Hobbs of Providence, N.C.; two sisters, Priscilla H. Mitchell of Providence, N.C. and Rachel H. Barker of Danville; two grandchildren, Cassey and Jordan Wade; special niece who was like a daughter, Robin Carroll of Providence, N.C.; Mother-in-law, Empress W. Wade of Ringgold; two sisters-in-law, Nancy W. James and Diane W. Richardson, both of Ringgold. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews in Danville and Providence.
She was predeceased by her father and one brother, Jack Hobbs; and two sisters, Naomi Hobbs and Nancy H. Keen.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, September 23, 2002 at 4:00 p.m. from Community Baptist Church in Yanceyville, N.C. by the Reverend Mark Smith and Rodney Barker. Interment will be in the Community Baptist Church Cemetery on Old Hwy. 86.
The family received friends Sunday night 7:00-8:30 p.m. at the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel and will other times at the residence of her niece, Robin Carroll, 212 Mac Carroll Road, off of the Park Springs Road in Providence, N.C.

Virginia Younger Beale
NATHALIE, Va. - Virginia Younger Beale, 84, died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003 at Daybreak-Heritage Green in Lynchburg.
She was born Sept. 17, 1918 in Halifax County.
She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Republican Grove.
She was married to Clayton James "C.J." Beale, who predeceased her.
She is survived by three daughters, Mary Anna Evans of Greenwood, S.C., Sandra Wells of Dinwiddie and Debbie Cox of Forest; one brother, J.W. Younger of Nathalie; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church of Republican Grove with the Rev. Shelton Miles officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall of the church following the service.

Polly Adkins Dodson
DANVILLE, Va. - Polly Adkins Dodson, 71, of Druid Lane, went home to Jesus on January 25, 2003. She died in Kindred Hospital in Greensboro, N.C., after being in declining health for the past six months and in the hospital for three months.
Born August 8, 1931, in Caswell County, she was the daughter of the late John Oliver Adkins and the late Margaret Oliver Adkins.
Mrs. Dodson had moved to Danville in 1978 from Yanceyville, N.C. She worked at Dan River Inc. as a Supervisor in the #5 Control Laboratory until she was taken ill on September 2, 2002. She had received her 45 year plaque and a diamond necklace for her years of service on August 28, 2002. Mrs. Dodson was of the Baptist Faith.
She married Leonard Austin Dodson on December 26, 1953. He predeceased her on February 15, 1971.
She is survived by a beloved nephew, Barry Boyd, and his sons Alex, Travis and Nicholas, all of Winston-Salem, N.C.
Other family members include Kim Adkins of Winston-Salem, N.C., Jimmie Lee Adkins and wife Debbie and their daughter Brandi, also of Winston-Salem, N.C.
Special friends and Guardian Angels Betty Williams of Pelham, N.C. and Wendy Morris of Danville, Va.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by Sally Donna Adkins, John Wallace Adkins, Myrtle Adkins Satterfield, Jim Henry Adkins and Earline Adkins Boyd Bryant.
The funeral will be held 5 p.m. Tuesday from the mausoleum in Danville Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Rodney Barker officiating.
Entombment will follow the service.
The family will be at the residence, 109 Druid Lane, Danville, Va.

Louise Nuckols Pinckney
DANVILLE, Va. - Louise Nuckols Pinckney, 80, of 120 Old Piney Forest Road, Lot #34, died Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, at Danville Regional Medical Center, after being in declining health for eight weeks and in the hospital for one week.
Born April 20, 1922, in Chatham, she was the daughter of Jesse James Nuckols and Ada Powell Nuckols, who predeceased her.
She was of the Baptist faith. She had been a resident of Danville since 1994.
She was retired from the Spring Factory in Malvern, Pennsylvania, where she worked as a spring machine operator.
She married Kenneth Francis Pinckney on Nov. 26, 1948. He predeceased her Sept. 16, 1993.
She is survived by one brother, Billy Nuckols of Danville and two sisters, Margie N. Kellar of Summerfield, N.C. and Jerry N. Wilkinson of Danville.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by one sister, Mildred N. DeVall.
The memorial graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Danville Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Steve Carlton officiating.

Henry Rudolph Williams
DANVILLE, Va. - Henry Rudolph Williams, 78, of 100 Elwood Ave., died Monday Jan. 27, 2003 at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born April 19, 1924, in Danville, he was the son of Bias Dolan Williams and Annie Cassell Williams Doss, who predeceased him.
He was a Corporal in the Army Air Force Air Service Group from March 1943 to January 1946. He worked as a mechanic for Barkhouser Motors.
He served in the Ian Island in the Southwest Pacific. He was a lifetime member of the Westover Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of St. Mark's Pentecostal Holiness Church, where he was a choir member and was active in Vacation Bible School activities. He was known as "the neighborhood fix it man."
He was married to Rita B. Strader Williams.
In addition to his wife, of the residence, he is survived by three sons, Kenneth R. Williams of Dry Fork, Roy Strader Jr. of Manassas and William W. Strader of Danville; two daughters, Carolyn S. Cassell and Sue S. East, both of Danville; one brother, Jesse N. Williams of Danville; one sister, Nellie W. Turner of Winston-Salem, N.C.; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one son, Bob Strader; one daughter, Barbara W. Morris; one brother, "Bill" Williams; and two sisters, Jeanette Cox and Mary Williams.
The funeral will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mark's Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. Henry Taylor officiating. Interment will be in Danville Memorial Gardens with military honors given by the American Legion, Dan River Post #10.

Jack Warren (J.W.) Bane
VERNON HILL, Va. - Jack Warren (J.W.) Bane, 81, of 2150 Loop Road, died Friday, Sept. 27, 2002 at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born March 4, 1921, in Halifax County, he was the son of John Jinks Bane and Birda Carol Moorefield Bane.
He resided in the Vernon Hill community of Halifax County his entire life. He was a retired merchant, television repairman and farmer. He was a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II receiving a Presidential promotion to Chief Petty Officer for meritorious conduct in action. He was a member of the Halifax Masonic Lodge #96 A.F. and A.M., served as an ASCS committee member and was a Charter Member of the Oak Level Volunteer Fire Department.
He was married to Thelma Hughes Bane.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Carol Bane Owen and Betty Bane Geisinger, both of Vernon Hill; two brothers, Lacy Weldon Bane and Woody Kent Bane Sr.; and two grandchildren.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Garland Kermit Bane and James Edward Bane; and two sisters, Nannie Dorothy Bane Hodnett and Molly Lillian Bane.
The funeral will be held 3 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church with the Rev. Lawrence Garrett and the Rev. Bill Wilkins officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Jeanette (Jean) Barnes
PROVIDENCE, N.C. - Jean Barnes of 1352 Park Springs Road, died September 27, 2002 at her residence. She was born in London, England December 21, 1935, where she lived in her formative years before coming to America in 1958. She became an American Citizen in December of 1986.
Prior to moving to Providence in 1989, she lived in Danville, Va., where she worked for Health-Tex, Inc. until she retired June 1998 after 28 1/2 years of employment.
Mrs. Barnes is survived by two sons, Edward H. Herbert, IV of Byhalia, Miss. and David Herbert of Norfolk, Va.; two daughters, Cheryl Kannapu of Norfolk, Va., Buffy Lynn Pendergrass of U.S. Navy stationed at Norfolk, Va.; one sister, Leah Spearman of London, England; 7 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild.
She is also survived by two dear friends, Hazel Wese of Hampton, Va., her best friend of almost 40 years and a very dear close friend of 26 years, Becky Davis of Yanceyville, N.C.
A simple graveside service will be held Sunday, September 29, 2002, 2 p.m. at Danville Memorial Gardens by The Rev. Hershel Stone.
Friends may visit at the residence on 1352 Park Springs Road.
Jean was a very kind person and a devoted friend, who will be greatly missed by all who loved her.

Evie Cundiff Goodman
DANVILLE, Va. - Evie Cundiff Goodman, 90, of 1236 West Main St., Apt. 111, died Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002, at Piney Forest Health Care after having resided there since June 14, 2002.
Born Sept. 25, 1912, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Tom Cundiff and Clara Farmer Cundiff.
She spent most of her life living in Altavista and Danville. Prior to retirement, she worked for Dan River, Inc. in the #3 Card Room. She was of the Holiness faith.
She was married to Otha Hampton Goodman, who predeceased her Nov. 2, 1992.
She is survived by two daughters, Kathy G. Floyd and Joyce Barker; two sons, Paul J. Goodman and Otha H. Goodman Jr., all of Danville; one sister, Hazel Dalton of Lynch Station; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by four brothers, Harry, Earl, Marvin and Shirley Cundiff.
The graveside funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Gary Milstead officiating. Interment will follow.
