Leslie Bradley, Jr.
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Leslie Simmie "Frog" Bradley Jr., 80, of 3146 Dan River Church Road, died August 16, 1999, at Berry Hill Nursing Home.
Born Dec. 6, 1918, in Halifax County, he was the son of Leslie S. Bradley Sr. and Annie Terry Bradley.
He married
Millie Keatts Bradley, who survives.
He was a member of First Baptist Church and was a mechanic for many years with C&G Tractor Company before retirement.
In addition to his wife of the South Boston, survivors include one daughter, Lisa Bradley Landrum of South Boston; one son, Herman Leslie "Pete" Bradley of Mechanicsville; and two grandchildren.
He was predeceased by three brothers, Elmo Bradley, Atkins Bradley and Watkins Bradley.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Powell Funeral Home with the Rev. David Dickerson officiating. Burial will be in Catawba Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. today at Powell Funeral Home and at other times at the residence.
William Corr
DANVILLE, Va. - William Ellis Corr, III, 78, of 29 Oak Lane, died Monday afternoon, August 16, 1999, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born March 30, 1921, in Gloucester, Va., he was the son of William Ellis Corr Jr. and Ruth Wootten Corr.
He was married
to Martha Boatwright Corr, who survives.
He was a graduate of Botetourt High School and attended the College of William and Mary.
He was a resident of Danville since late 1940s, and was associated with Dibrell Brothers Tobacco Company for a number of years. He was former owner and operator of a gift shop, de Corr, and later was employed with the Danville Museum of Fine Arts and History Gift Shop. He was a member of Episcopal Church of the Epiphany where he served on the Vestry and was former Senior Warden. He was a member of Danville Golf Club and a former member of the German Club.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include two sons, William Ellis Corr IV of Damascus, Md., and Edgar Boatwright Corr of Washington; one brother, Lauren F. Corr of Camden, S.C.; one sister, Martha C. Steed of Camden; and four grandchildren.
A funeral will be noon today at Episcopal Church of the Epiphany with the Rev. James Mathieson officiating. Interment
will be in Green Hill cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Lula Edwards
DANVILLE, Va. - Lula Mae Bowles Edwards, age 78, of 11220 Mount Cross Road, died at her residence Monday morning, August 16, 1999, after five years of declining health.
Mrs. Edwards was born in Ethel, Mississippi on March 18, 1921, a daughter of the late Alonza Lee Bowles and Lillie Need Hambrick Bowles.
She married
George William Edwards Sr., on October 8, 1934, who died in 1998.
Mrs. Edwards had made her home in the Vance community for the past 44 years where she was a homemaker. She attended Bethelham Baptist Church and Adult Sunday School class at the church.
Survivors include four daughters, Mary Johnson, Ann Bartley, Katherine Hamlett, all of Danville and Fannie Herndon of Ringgold; one adopted granddaughter, Annette Jeter of Danville, and two sons, George William Edwards Jr. of South Boston and Alonza Lee Edwards of Dry Fork; and three sisters, Bertah Kate Bridges of Raymond, Mississippi, and Miss Nora Bowles of Jackson, Mississippi, and Anna Margaret Calvi of Nesbit, Mississippi, and two brothers, Ralph Bowles of Jackson, Mississippi, and Claytor Bowles of Danville; 13 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and three step-grandchildren also survive.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Aubrey Bowles and Leon Bowles and one sister, Adris Ingram.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. J.B. Baldridge officiating. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the residence of her daughter, Katherine Hamlett, 225 Westridge Drive.
Evelyn Hutcherson
DANVILLE, Va. - Evelyn Edmonds Hutcherson, 101, of Danville, formerly of South Boston, died Sunday, Aug. 15, 1999 at Roman Eagle Nursing Home.
Born July 29, 1898, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of James Chesley Edmonds and Mildred Starkey Edmonds.
She was married
to Jesse Martin Hutcherson Sr, who predeceased her.
A member of the Beth Car Baptist Church, Hutcherson belonged to the United Daughters of the Confederacy in South Boston.
She is survived by five sons, Jesse M. Hutcherson Jr. of Danville, A. Kenneth Hutcherson of Luthersville, Md., James W. Hutcherson of Greensboro, N.C., Cecil T. Hutcherson of Ocracoke, N.C. and Robert D. Hutcherson of Laurens, S.C.; 16 grandchildren; 10 great- grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Richard Hutcherson Sr.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. today at Powell Funeral Home Chapel in South Boston with the Rev. Melvin J. Bradshaw conducting the service. Burial will take place in Oak Ridge cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home today from 12:00 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Kelvin Keen
AXTON, Va. - Kelvin Blake Keen, 36, of 7895 Axton Road, died Sunday, August 15, 1999.
Born in Eden, N.C., he was the son of King Keen and Rosetta Keen, who survive.
He was employed at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. He was a member of the Only Way Church.
In addition to his parents, survivors include one daughter, Patrice Keen of Axton; two brothers, Kenneth Keen of Martinsville, Kenyon Keen of Eden, N.C.; grandmother, Almeda Williams of Cascade.
A funeral will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Moral Hill Baptist Church in Martinsville with the Rev. John Tinsley officiating.
The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. today at the church.

Dr. K. E. Overcash
DANVILLE, Va. - Dr. Kelly Ennis "Ken" Overcash, 59, 184 Chickadee Road, died Tuesday morning, August 17, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Jan. 9, 1940, in Southern Pines, N.C., he was the son of Dr. William Earl Overcash and Marjorie Skinner Overcash, who survive.
He married
Linda Williamson Overcash, who also survive.
He was a graduate of George Washington High School, Hampton Sydney University of Virginia Medical School, and Residency at Medical University of South Carolina at Charleston. For two years, he was a flight surgeon in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He returned to Danville in 1972, joining Dr. Milton Greenberg in the practice of otolaryngology. At the time of his death, he was an associate with Danville Ear Nose & Throat Associates. He was a member of AMA, was past president of the medical staff of Danville Regional Medical Center, member of Episcopal Church of the Epiphany, where he had served on the vestry.
In addition to his mother of Danville and wife of the residence, survivors include three daughters, Kelly Overcash Byrne and Katherine Overcash Wood, both of Arizona, and Elizabeth Ashley Overcash Schoolor of Fairfax; three sons, Richard Clifton Webb of Columbia, S.C., Anthony Christopher Webb and James Ryan Webb, both of Danville; and four grandchildren.
A funeral will be noon Thursday from Episcopal Church of the Epiphany with the Father James Mathieson officiating.

Curtis Owens
DANVILLE, Va. - Curtis James Owens, 74, of 1020 Claiborne St., died Sunday, August 15, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born July 20, 1925, in Danville, he was the son of the late James Owens and Mary Price Owens.
He attended Danville Public Schools, and later served in the United States Navy. He joined White Rock Baptist Church at an early age, and was employed for many years at Shoney's Restaurant, until his retirement in 1990.
Survivors include one sister, Almentria Owens of Danville.
A funeral will be 11 a.m. today at White Rock Baptist Church with Dr. Walter Tinsley officiating. Burial will be in Crooktown cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence of his sister, 540 Rice St.

Sarah Pollard
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Sarah Adams Pollard, 74, of 2558 Georgetown Drive, died Friday, August 13, 1999, at the residence.
Born Oct. 11, 1924, in Pittsylvania County, Va., he was the son of Robert Thomas Adams and Sarah Edna Robertson Adams.
She was married
to Joe Warren Pollard, who predeceased her.
He was a member of Payneton United Methodist Church and former resident of Pittsylvania County.
Survivors include two sons, Robert W. Pollard of Tuscaloosa, and James E. Pollard of Birmingham; four sisters, Katie A. Fitzgerald of Salem, Va., Lois A. Gravely of Hendersonville, N.C., and Elizabeth A. Eliot of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Barbara E. Adams of Chatham, Va.; one brother, Robert T. Adams Jr. of Chatham; and four grandchildren.
A funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Payneton United Methodist Church with the Rev. Thomas R. Boggs officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Willie Warren
SAN FRANCISCO - Willie Cornelius Warren, 49, formerly of Sutherlin, Va., died Friday, August 13, 1999, at Seton Hospital in California.
Born March 13, 1950, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Hugo V. Warren and the late Josphine R. Warren.
He was a graduate of Southside High School with 2 years of college. He was employed by PG & E Electrical Power Plant in California where he was a technical administrator for 20 years.
In addition to his father, Hugo V. Warren of Sutherlin, Va., survivors include four brothers, John V. Warren of Sterling, Va., Charlie E. Warren of Sutherlin, Va., Howard L. Warren of Ettrick, Va., and Steven W. Warren of Martinsville, Va.; three sisters, Evelyn M. Fallen of Danville, Va., Roberta W. Warren of Liberty Lake, Wa., and Brenda J. Warren of Danville.
In addition to his mother, Josphine R. Warren, he was also predeceased by one brother Thomas E. Warren.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends at the residence of his brother, Charlie E. Warren, 261 Walk Lane, Sutherlin.
Richard Bridgforth Jr.
KENBRIDGE, Va. - Richard Baskerville Bridgforth Jr., 74, of 172 Brockton Place, died Tuesday, August 17, 1999, at his residence.
Born Jan. 3, 1925, in Kenbridge, he was the son of Richard Baskerville Bridgforth Sr. and Elizabeth Cunningham Bridgforth.
He was married
to Nancy Dickinson Bridgforth, who survives.
He attended V.M.I. as a cadet in the "phantom class" and was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps serving in World War II, as Sergeant First Class under Admiral Chester Nimitz.
He was in attendance aboard the USS Missouri as the Japanese surrendered in Tokyo Bay.
Following the war, he attended the University of Virginia.
He was former president of International Planters Tobacco Company, former president of G.R. Garrett Company in Rocky Mount, N.C., and the former chief executive officer of DIMON International.
He served on the board of directors for Hampden-Sydney College, Signet Bank in Richmond, the Danville Regional Medical Center, the YMCA and the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include four sons, Richard B. Bridgforth III of Denver, Andrew D. Bridgforth of Bangkok, Thailand, Robert M. Bridgforth of Danville and John C. Bridgforth of Malaysia; one daughter, Nancy B. Williams of Charlotte, N.C.; one sister, Betty B. Young of Fayetteville, N.C.; and nine grandchildren.
A private burial will be in Kenbridge.
The family will receive friends 4-6 p.m. today at Carrington Hall located on Bridge Street, across from the office of DIMON International.

Fannie Castle
CHATHAM, Va. - Fannie Wann Castle, 85, of 3949 Banister Road, died Wednesday morning, August 18, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center emergency room after 14 years of declining health.
Born Feb. 16, 1914, in Washington County at Abingdon, she was the daughter of Joseph Lane Wann and Betty Arnold Wann.
She was married
June 8, 1929, to Robert Wade Castle, who predeceased her Nov. 24, 1997.
She made her home in the Chatham area since 1985.
She previously worked for Dan River Inc. as a spinner for 16 years before going to work at Royal Cotton Mill in Wake Forest, N.C., where she worked for 10 years. She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include two daughters, Doris Castle Flinchum of Dry Fork, and Deloris Castle Marshall of Youngsville, N.C.; one son, Douglas F. Castle of Chatham; one sister, Ellen Nelson of Danville; nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by one daughter, Nancy Castle Stillwell in 1994,; and one grandchild who died in 1998.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gilbert Hawks and the Rev. Charlie Cundiff officiating. Burial will be in Schoolfield cemetery.
