Betty Fazchas
DANVILLE, Va. - Elizabeth "Betty" Fazchas, 56, of 4011 Westover Drive, Lot 20, (Taylor Trailer Park), died Monday, August 23, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center after several years of declining health.
Born June 18, 1943, in Washington, she was the daughter of Joseph Pewterbaugh and Frances Pewterbaugh.
She was married
to Frank F. Fazchas, who survives.
She spent most of her life in the Washington area before moving to Danville in July 1978.
She was a homemaker and a former beautician. She was of the Catholic faith.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include two sons, Stephen Joseph Fazchas of Tampa, Fla., and Frank Joseph Fazchas of Danville; one daughter, Patricia Anne Fazchas of Richmond; and two sisters, Nancy Pewterbaugh of Austin, Texas, and Mary Jo Smith of Melbourne, Fla.; and five grandchildren.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Francis Martin officiating. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and at other times at the residence of her mother-in-law, June V. Garrett, at 4011 Westover Drive, Lot 22.
Gaynell Adams
RINGGOLD, Va. - Gaynell McGuire Adams, 63, of 1364 Sandy Creek Church Road, died Tuesday morning, August 24, 1999, shortly after being taken to Danville Regional Medical Center Emergency Room.
Born June 15, 1936, in Pelham, N.C., she was the daughter of Robert E. McGuire and Louella Smith McGuire.
She married
William Otis Adams, Oct. 17, 1954, who survives.
She made her home in the Ringgold community of Pittsylvania County, all of her life where she was a mother, homemaker and a member of Gethsemane Wesleyan Church.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include one daughter, Vickie A. Davis of Danville; seven sons, Tony L. Adams of the residence, Bobby W. Adams, Freddie C. Adams and Charles "Tommy" Adams, all of Sutherlin, and Jackie L. Adams of Ringgold, Randy O. Adams and "Billy" A. Adams, both of Danville; and one sister, Jerline M. Adkins of Danville; one brother, Calvin C. McGuire, of Danville; 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was predeceased by one sister, Charmie M. Peek; and two brother, J. Roy McGuire and Herbert E. McGuire.
A funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Donald Mahan and the Rev. David Wilson officiating.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and at other times at the residence.
John Davis
WALNUT COVE, Va. - John Alver Davis, 54, died Sunday, August 22, 1999, at his home.
Born July 29, 1935, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Floyd Luther Davis Sr. and Empress Stowe Davis, who survives.
In addition to his mother of Danville, survivors include two sons, John Anthony Davis of Walnut Cove and Michael Ray Davis of Lewisville; one sister, Jane Hyde of Arizona; three brothers, David Davis, Stephen Davis and F.L. Davis, all of Danville; and six grandchildren.
A private funeral service is scheduled.

Cecile Mills
DANVILLE, Va. - Cecile Glass Mills, 76, of 340 Stone Creek Road, died Tuesday morning, August 24, 1999, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born May 4, 1923, in Halifax County, she was the daughter of Artie William Glass and Beulah Carter Glass.
She was married
to Aubrey Daniel Mills, who predeceased her July 22, 1985.
She was a former resident of Heritage Towers and had been a resident of Roman Eagle Memorial Home for the past year.
She was a member of Moseley Memorial United Methodist Church and was retired from Virginia Bank and Trust where she was employed for a number of years.
Survivors include one daughter, Judy Mills Richardson of Danville; three sisters, Marie G. Henderson and Edith G. Bradshaw, both of Danville, and Nancy G. Adkins of South Boston; and four grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by two sisters, Virginia Rice and Dorothy Clark. A funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Townes Memorial Chapel with the Rev. George Neas officiating. Burial will be in Mountain View cemetery.
The family will receive friends 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and at other times at the residence.
Carl Morton
CLOVER, Va. - Carl Evans Morton, 52, died Friday, August 20, 1999, at Halifax Regional Hospital in South Boston.
Born August 11, 1947, in Halifax County.
He was married
to Rose Morton, who survives.
In addition to his wife of Clover, survivors include four daughters, Wanda Morton, Monique Morton and Sonya Morton, all of Clover, and Sharon Morton of Richmond; four sisters, Gladys Gamble and Ida Morton, both of Clover, and Ella Gren and Catherine Wiltshire of Yonkers; one son, Carl Morton of Clover; one brother, John Morton of Yonkers, N.Y.; and four grandchildren. A funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Bethlehem Baptist Church, Clover, with the Rev. Vaughn Brayboy officiating. Burial will be in church cemetery.
There will be a viewing one hour prior to service. The family will receive friends at the residence of Gladys Gamble, 1093 Stith Lane, Clover. Crawford, Garrett & Burton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Edward Toler Sr.
FARMVILLE, Va. - Edward Yancie Toler Sr., 80, died Tuesday, August 24, 1999, at Southside Community Hospital, Farmville.
Born August 17, 1919, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Walter N. Toler and Myrtle Lewis Toler. He was married
to Bertha Reece Toler, who predeceased him Oct. 3, 1979. He was a former resident of Heritage Towers and lived all his life in Danville. He retired from Perkinson Foundry. He was a veteran in the United States Navy during World War II.
He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include one son, E.Y. Toler Jr. of Danville; one daughter, Brenda T. Thaxton of Reidsville, N.C.; two sisters, Margaret Warren of Danville and Ruby Cannon of Detroit; two brothers, William Toler of Danville and Ernest Toler of Gastonia, N.C.; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Danville Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Linwood Hairfield, Sr. officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Honor Guard of American Legion Post No. 325.
The family will receive friends at the residence of his son at 2979 Old Mayfield Road.

DANVILLE, Va. Ruth Spatz Barricks, 85, of 1111 Stratford House, died Wednesday, August 25, 1999, at Stratford Health Care Center.
Born Dec. 19, 1913, in New York City, she was the daughter of Joseph Spatz and Mollie Goldman Spatz.
She was married
to Leonard Issac Barricks, who predeceased her.
She made her home in Danville since 1996 after spending most of her life in Sioux City, Iowa and Houston.
She was a member of Temple Beth Sholom.
Survivors include two daughters, Susan Barricks Yourtz of Half Moon Bay, Calif., and Deborah Barricks Kovarsky of Danville; one brother, Dr. Sidney Spatz of Lake Worth, Fla.; one sister, Anna Gassman of Los Angeles; and two grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by one sister, Ethel Handler.
A funeral will be held in Sioux City, Iowa.

Rufus Cobbs
DANVILLE, Va. - Rufus R. Cobbs, 60, of 600 Main St., Apt. 410, died Monday, August 23, 1999, at his residence.
Born Aug. 4, 1939, in Pittsylvania County, in the Keeling community, he was the son of Woodrow Cobbs Sr. and Amy Skipper Cobbs.
He was educated in Pittsylvania County Schools.
He was self-employed until his health failed.
He was baptized and joined the Mount Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Ed. McLaughlin.
He later joined Bethleham Temple Holiness Church with Elder Matthew Scott.
Survivors include two sons, Rufus R. Cobbs, Jr. of Danville and Kenneth Darrell Cobbs of Horshem, Pa.; one sister, Alice Jean Sydnor of Blairs; five brothers, McAurthur Cobbs of Ringgold, John D. Cobbs and Thomas Cobbs, both of Danville, Woodrow Cobbs Jr. of Danville Bernard Cobbs of Lynchburg; and five grandchildren.
A special graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Oak Hill cemetery.
A viewing will be 4-7 p.m. and a special service from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends at 246 N. Woodberry.

DANVILLE, Va. - Velma Dillard Hogan, 69, of 157 Westmore Drive, died Tuesday, August 24, 1999, in the Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Sept. 4, 1929, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Avery Dillard and Della Adams Dillard.
She was married
June 29, 1946, to Bruce W. Hogan, who survives.
She was a resident of Danville all her life and was employed at Belk-Leggett for 16 years and later was employed at office of Dr. Fred Sager until she retired. She was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her husband, survivors include one daughter, Pamela H. Stowe of Danville; and two grandchildren.
A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Schoolfield cemetery with the Rev. Wayne Wallace officiating.
