AXTON, Va. - Mary Alice Myers, 55, of 3327 Wyatt Farm Road, died Sunday, August 29, 1999, at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County.
Born Aug. 29, 1944, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of the late Ernest Bradner and Caroline Clark Bradner, who survive.
She was married
to Willie Myers, who also survives.
She was a member of Bethel Way of The Cross Church. She retired on disability from Red Level Upolstery.
In addition to her mother of Danville and her husband of the residence, survivors include three daughters, Jean Williams of Cascade, Frances B. Hill of Washington, and Melinda D. Pritchett of Martinsville; three sons, Jimmie Rogers Day Jr. of Washington, Kenneth William Day of Camden, N.J., and Knova Lynn Day of the residence; three sisters, Lois Day and Virginia Bradner, both of Danville, and Teresa Carter of Axton; two brothers, Loris Bradner of Gretna and Charlie Coleman of Chatham.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Bethel United Way of The Cross Church with Apostle Joseph Adams officiating. Burial will be in Macedonia Baptist Church cemetery, Chatham, Va.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Mary White
CHATHAM, Va. - Mary A. White, 83, of 45 Pine St., died Sunday, August 29, 1999, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born April 28, 1916, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Granville Minter and Pinkie Minter.
She was married
to Obie White, who survives.
She was a member of Greater Triumph Missionary Baptist Church and a member of Chatham Home Demonstration Club.
In addition to her husband, survivors include four sons, Rev. Hubert White of Chatham, Robert White of White Plains, N.Y., William H. White of James Town, N.J., and Arthur G. White of Richmond; three daughters, Willie R. Griffin and Verdella M. Jackson, both of Baltimore, and Elizabeth Jenkins, of Edgewater Park, N.J.; one sister, Gracie Hightower of Camden, N.J.; 24 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren
She was predeceased by one son, Tom White.
A funeral will be 1 p.m. Friday at Greater Triumph Missionary Baptist Church with Dr. H.C. McGhee officiating. Burial will be in church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Nora Wilson
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Nora Gravitt Wilson, 71, of 2013 Vaughan St., died Wednesday, September 1, 1999, at Halifax Regional Medical Hospital.
Born July 18, 1928, in Halifax County, she was the daughter of Ira Addison Gravitt and Mary Averett Gravitt.
She was married
to Arthur Mack Wilson.
She was a member of Shady Grove United Methodist Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Marlene W. Crenshaw of Pinehurst, N.C., Bonnie W. Crenshaw of Halifax, and Rebecca W. Conner of Danville; one half sister, Lorene G. Nelson of Virgilina; and five grandchildren.
A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Virgilina cemetery with the Rev. Don Davidson officiating.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday at Powell Funeral Home and at other times at the residence of her daughter, Bonnie Crenshaw, 1024 Quail Lane, Halifax.
Evelyn Burch
JAVA, VA. - Evelyn Adams Burch, 83, of 2993 Java Road, Java, Virginia, died September 2, 1999, at the Danville Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Burch was born December 17, 1915, in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Burton D. Adams and Myrtle Edmunds Adams.
She was the wife of the late Gilbert Wilson Burch.
She was predeceased by one son, Joel Burch. She was also predeceased by two sisters and two brothers, Thelma Duff, Bethel Blackwell, W.B. Adams and Guy W. Adams.
She is survived by three grandchildren, B. Joel Burch Jr. of Lynchburg, Jeffrey S. Burch of Danville, Holly B. McDonough of Suffolk; and three great grandchildren.
She was a member of Greenfield Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, September 4, 1999, at 11 a.m. from the Scott Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Michael Huff and Rev. R.G. Rowland.
Interment will be in the Highland Burial Park in Danville, Va.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Scott Funeral Home and at other times will be at the residence of Mrs. W. B. Adams, 2985 Java Road, Java, Va.

Sharon Dawson
RICHMOND, VA. - Sharon Dryden Dawson, 36, of 9625 Shiloh Drive died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 1999, at Person Memorial Hospital, Roxboro, N.C.
Born April 15, 1963, in Chesterfield County, she was the daughter of Gerald Dryden and Junell Rafferty Dryden.
She was married
to James M. "Jimmy" Dawson Jr.
In addition to her parents of Richmond and husband of Alton, survivors include two sons, James Wesley Dawson and Brandon Gerald Dawson, both of Alton; and two brothers Ronnie Dryden and Kevin Dryden, both of Richmond.
A graveside service will be held 4 p.m. Friday at Alton Baptist Church cemetery, with the Rev. Phil Ellenburg officiating.

James Lane
DANVILLE, VA. - James Edward Lane, 71, of 600 Main St., died Tuesday, August 31, 1999, at his residence.
Born Jan. 2, 1928, in Danville, he was the son of Arthur R. Lane and Ethel G. Lane.
He was of the Baptist faith and served in the United States Navy.
Survivors include one sister, Edith Vicks of Danville; one brother, Albert E. Lane of Fairfax; one son, Douglas Holcomb of Woodbridge; two daughters, Sharon Gail Mitchell of Beverdam, and Deborah Perrilloux of Ponchatoula, La.; and four grandchildren.
A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Joe Northern officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Memorial Post No. 325 honor guard.

Harry Long
SOUTH BOSTON, VA. - Harry Franklin Long, 78, of 126 White Oak Drive died Thursday morning, Sept. 2, 1999, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born May 12, 1921, in the Alton community of Halifax County, he was the son of George Morgan Long and Mamie Satterfield Long.
He was married
Nov. 8, 1997, to Nancy Williams Long.
He retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. as a band builder and later worked at Motley's Warehouse for a number of years.
A veteran of the Army, he was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War Ballard Pruitt Post No. 647. He was of the Methodist Faith.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include one daughter, Candace "Candy" Cooper of Providence, N.C.; one brother, W.J. "Bob" Long of Turbeville; and four sisters, Mildred Buckner and Virginia Satterfield, both of Alton, Daisy Martin of Halifax and Lillian Satterfield of South Boston.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Barker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ann Davidson and the Rev. Kenneth Williams officiating.
Burial will be in Mountain View cemetery with military honors conducted by the American Legion Memorial Post No. 325 Honor Guard.

Roy Robertson
GRETNA, Va. - Roy Lee Robertson, 86, of 125 Franklin Blvd., died Friday, Sept. 3, 1999, in Gretna Health Care Center.
Born Dec. 29, 1912, in Sandy Level, he was the son of George William Robertson and Fannie Divers Robertson.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Katherine Harris Robertson, his second wife, Mae Chism Robertson, a step-son, Harry Chism, a nephew, Allen Robertson and three brothers, Curtis Robertson, Burnice Robertson and Luther Robertson.
He was a retired supervisor for McWayne Plastics in McWayne, N.J. While a resident of New Jersey, he lived in Towaco where he was a member of the volunteer fire department.
After forty-five years with McWayne Plastics, he retired in 1985 and returned to Gretna. Mr. Robertson was a member of Round Pond Baptist Church.
He is survived by two step-sons, Reuben W. Chism of Lynch Station and Roger Chism of Gretna; two stepdaughters, Lorene C. Ferguson of Gretna and Shelby C. Crews of Hurt; three nieces, Sissie Robertson of Rocky Mount, Barbara Lewis of Knoxville, Tenn., and Marie Ledbetter of Danville; one nephew, Ben Robertson of Pittsville.
Graveside services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, September 5, 1999, at Gretna Burial Park by Rev. A.A. Blanks and Rev. Woodrow Tuck.

Mattie Salters Fleming
EAST ORANGE, N.J. - Mattie Salters, 94, died Saturday, August 28, 1999, at East Orange General Hospital.
She was born March 20, 1905, in Halifax County.
Survivors include one daughter, Fannie Bowman.
A funeral will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Piney Grove Baptist Church in Scottsburg, Va., with the Rev. Witfield Scott officiating. Burial will be in church cemetery.
A viewing will be one hour prior to the funeral service.

AXTON, Va. - Rebecca Day Walton, 67, of 4198 Wyatt Farm Road, died Monday, August 31, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born March 27, 1932, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Jessie L. Day and Lou Hunt Day. She was the stepdaughter of Ella C. Day, who survives.
She was married
to Steven A. Walton, who predeceased her.
She was a seamstress with Tultex Mills and a member of Tarpley's Chapel Baptist Church.
In addition to her stepmother of Danville, survivors include two sons, James Day of Martinsville and William Walton of Big Stone Gap; three daughters, Louise Law of Martinsville, Va., Elnora Walton of Axton, and Ruby Robinson of New York; three brothers, William Day of Washington, Robert Day of Danville and George Day of Lynchburg; four sisters, Alease Swanson and Lucy Law, both of Danville, Elnora Day of Camden, N.J., and Ella Carter of Axton.
A funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Tarpley's Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Divens Jr. officiating. Burial will be in church cemetery.
