Roy Johnson
DANVILLE, Va. - Roy Lee Johnson, 54, of 403 Ross St., died Saturday, September 4, 1999, at the Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Oct. 13, 1944, he was the son of Leroy Johnson and Eula Pickett Johnson, who survives.
He was married
Sept. 29, 1997, to Michelle Jones Johnson, who survives.
He was a member of the Loyal Baptist Church, where he served in the male chorus and the Metoka Sunday school class. He was also a member of the local and national chapters of The Sickle Cell Anemia Association. He was retired from the Library of Congress in Washington.
In addition to his mother and wife of the home, other survivors include two sons, Rodney Johnson of Hobesound, Fla. and Ahli Johnson of Atlanta; three sisters, Louise Beck of Eastman, Ga., Betty Lee of Danville and Latasha Johnson of Richmond, one brother, Roger Johnson, Laurel, Md., and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Loyal Baptist Church, with the Rev. Lovelle Maxwell Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at the Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the home of Eula Pickett Johnson, 612 Doe St., Danville.

Betty Stevens
NATHALIE, Va. - Betty Duffer Stevens, 39, of 1088 Liberty Road, died Monday, September 6, 1999, at Halifax Regional Hospital, South Boston.
Born June 14, 1960, in Halifax County, she was the adopted daughter of
Sam Duffer and the daughter of Annie Hughes Duffer.
She married
Daniel R. Stevens, who survives.
She was employed with JPS Converters.
In addition to her adopted father of South Boston and husband of Nathalie, survivors include one daughter, Erica Nicole Stevens of Nathalie; one step-daughter, Mandy Loftis of South Boston; four step sisters; three stepbrothers; and two grandchildren.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Rudolph Jacobs and the Rev. Bob Watts officiating. Burial will be in Liberty United Church of Christ cemetery, Nathalie.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and at other times at the residence of Nancy Stevens, 528 Berry Hill Road, South Boston.
Edward Tuck
BLAIRS, Va. - Edward Marshall Tuck, 70, of 152 Wind Flower Drive, died Sunday, September 5, 1999, at his residence after being in declining health for the past eight months.
Born Jan. 14, 1929, in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late Wiliam Earl Tuck and Carrie Wilkinson Tuck.
He was married
to Ruby Cole Tuck, who survives, on Oct. 29, 1949.
He lived in South Boston prior to moving to the Danville area where he had lived for the past 34 years. He had retired from Booker Motor Co. with 20 years of service as a farm machinery mechanic. He was a member of the Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church where he was a choir member, a Sunday school teacher, a member of the church quartet and served on a number of church boards. He organized and worked with the Boy Scouts in having a scout troop at the fomer Faith Home from 1970 to 1974.
In addition to his wife of the residence, other survivors include three daughters, Deborah T. McLendon, of Atlanta, Marsha T. Reynolds of Greensboro, N.C., and Glenda T. Elliott of Blairs; one sister, Kathryn T. Mosely of Jacksonville, Fla., and eight grandchildren.
He was predeceased by one brother and one sister.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel in Danville with the Rev. Steven Greer officiating. Burial will follow in the Floral Hills Memory Gardens with military honors by the American Legion Post 1097 Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends at other times at the residence.

Frances Walker
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Frances Hope Ligon Walker, 75, of 430 Crescent Drive, died Sunday, September 5, 1999, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born July 11, 1924, in Halifax County, she was the daughter of Hassie Edward Ligon and Gracie Watts Ligon.
She was a member of the Second Baptist Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Cheryl W. Campbell of Atlanta, Becky W. Reynolds of Danville, and Dawn W. Milam of South Boston; one son, Larry L. Walker of Hartselle, Ala.; one sister, Corine L. Throckmorton of Orange; five brothers, Edward Ligon of Atlanta, Johnny Ligon, Billy Ligon, Alfred Ligon, and Aubrey "Doc" Ligon, all of Scottsburg; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jim Smith officiating. Burial will be in Oakland cemetery, Scottsburg.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Constance "Debbie" Stone
BlAIRS, Va. - Constance Debra "Debbie" Stone, 50, of 2585 Lawless Creek Road, died Monday, September 6, 1999, at Bowman Gray Hospital, Winston Salem, N.C.
Born August 2, 1949, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Charlie Luck and Georgia Estelle Luck.
She was married
to Richard Stone, who survives.
She was a member of the Mount Calvary Baptist church and was employed for many years as a Certified Nursing assistant with Southern Agency for the Aging prior to her retirement on disability.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include one daughter, Kimberly Lewis of the residence; two sons, Charles Lewis and Derrick Lewis, both of Danville; one stepdaughter Coretta Renee Stone of Danville; eight sisters, Lois Woltz of Danville, Nancy Wright of Petersburg, Ola Luck and Sallie Collins, both of Richmond, Carol Boone of Alexandria, Willa Robinson of Hampton, Rhonda Braggs of Country Club Hill, Ill., and Shirley Jones of Blairs; two brothers, Bishop Nelson Luck of Danville and Leland Luck of Halifax.
A funeral will be 1 p.m. Friday at Mount Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Letcher Coleman officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery.

Delma White
CHATHAM, Va. - Delma Ann Motley White, 68, of 3405 Chalk Level Road, died Tuesday, September 7, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Sept. 19, 1930, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of James Hill Motley and Lenora Ramsey Motley.
She was a member of Sheva Church of Christ.
Survivors include two daughters, Barbara White Norcutt of Newport News, and Mary W. East of Chatham; one son, Landon White of Chatham; one sister, Margaret Adams of Charlottesville; two brothers, J. Hartwell Motley of Chatham and J. Fuller Motley of Gretna; and four grandchildren.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Sheva Church of Christ with Mike Stephenson, minister and Larry Owen, minister. Burial will be in church cemetery in Pittsylvania County.
The family will recieve firends at the residence of her daughter, Mary W. East, 4430 Chalk Level Road, Chatham.

Nettie Williams
DANVILLE, Va. - Nettie Townes Williams, 95, formerly of Ringgold, died Wednesday, September 8, 1999, in Roman Eagle Memorial Home.
Born Dec. 28, 1903, in Sutherlin, she was the daughter of Benjamin Williams and Mary Burton Williams.
She lived most of her life in Sutherlin and had been a resident of Ringgold since 1985. She was a former member of Kerns Memorial United Methodist Church and a member of the Rock Springs United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two sisters, Maude Edmunds of Gretna, and Mary Powell of Danville.
A funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Townes Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Howard Green officiating. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 2-3 p.m. Thursday prior to the funeral at the chapel.
Foy Allen
DANVILLE, Va. - Foy Austin Allen, 83, of 201 A&W Drive, died suddenly Wednesday afternoon, September 8, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Oct. 19, 1915, in Ararat, he was the son of Thomas Walter Allen and Celia Ayers Allen.
He was married
to Mary Bowman Allen, who predeceased him.
He worked at Dan River Inc. as a Warp Tier, unti his retirement. He was a veteran of the United States Army and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include two sons, Virgil B. Allen and Talmadge M. Allen, both of Danville; one daughter, Margaret A. Williams of Danville; two sisters, Ora A. Bowman and Arabelle A. Smith, both of Danville; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by one sister and five brothers.
A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Danville Memorial Gardens with the Rev. John Gentry officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Memorial Post No. 325 Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at Barker Funeral Home and at other times at the residence.
Naomi Burton
DANVILLE, Va. - Naomi Loetta Pippin Burton, 74, of 13 Oak Ridge Ave., died Thursday, September 9, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center after a four-day stay and 10 years of declining health.
Born June 4, 1925, in Caney Valley community of Washington County, she was the daughter of Walter Pippin and Lillie Pippin Pippin.
She was married
July 25, 1942, to Ralph L. Burton, who survives.
She spent most of her life in Danville where she worked in quality control as an inspector for Dan River, Inc. for many years. She was a member of Schoolfield United Methodist Church and also the Women's Circle of the church. She also worked as a volunteer helping with mental patients.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include one daughter, Joan C. Burton of Danville; one son, Larry D. Burton of the residence; two sisters, Winona Hopkins and Wanda Mobley, both of Danville.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Kenneth Pippin and Sterling Pippin.
A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. George B. Neas officiating.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at Swicegood Funeral Home and at other times at the residence.
Kenneth "Kenny" Clifton
DANVILLE, Va. - Kenneth "Kenny" Layne Clifton, 58, of 3 Oak Ridge Ave., died Wednesday, September 8, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center where he had been for four days after five years of declining health.
Born Dec. 6, 1940, in Danville, he was the son of W. Connie Clifton and Viola Griffith Clifton.
He was married
to Penny Byrd Clifton, who survives.
He spent most of his life in Danville where he worked at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company for 27 years before retiring on disability in 1994. He was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include one daughter, Cheryl Clifton of Kernersville, N.C.; two stepdaughters, Carol Clay of Danville and Veronica Clay of Providence, N.C.; one brother, Richard Clifton of Hopewell; and three grandchildren.
He was predeceased by six brothers and two sisters.
A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Keith Moore officiating.

Rodney Jeffries
AUSTIN, Texas - Rodney L. Jeffries, 33, of 7910 Croftwood Drive, died Saturday, September 4, 1999, at his residence.
Born August 15, 1966, in Danville, Va., he was the son of Willie Jeffries and Faye Mebane Jeffries, who both survive.
He was employed at Advanced Micro Devices in Austin.
In addition to his parents of the residence, survivors include one sister, Sheryll Jeffries of Danville; one brother, Brian Jeffries of Austin.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Cecil Bridgeforth officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery.
