Mary Elizabeth Heath Garrett Bubb
POMFRET, Md. - Mary Elizabeth Heath Garrett Bubb, 88, died Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, at Charles County Nursing Home in La Plata, Md.
Born Oct. 11, 1914, in Chatham, Va., she was a daughter of James M. and Maggie Wright Heath.
She was of the Protestant faith.
She is survived by a son, Charles M. and wife, Irene Garrett of Virginia; a daughter, Barbara G. and husband, Anthony Ciotti of Pomfret; three sisters, Gladys Adams, Dorothy and husband, Pete Bryant, Rachel and husband, Leon Miller, all of Virginia; a son-in-law, David Schiebel of Washington, D.C.; seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Kermit H. Bubb; a daughter, Phyllis R. Schiebel; six brothers and three sisters.
The funeral will be held 10 a.m. Friday at White Plains Baptist Church, Pomfret, Md., with the Rev. Randy Accord officiating. Interment will be in Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Cheltenham, Md., with military honors.
Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. Thursday and 9-10 a.m. Friday before the service at White Plains Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society of Charles County.

Bradley 'Brad' David Bullins
PELHAM, N.C. - Bradley "Brad" David Bullins, 36, of 851 Chandlers Mill Road, died Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2003, at Wesley Long Hospital.
He was born on June 18, 1966 in Martinsville.

Herbert Astor Cahill
DANVILLE, Va. - Herbert Astor Cahill, age 88, long time resident of 528 West Main Street, Danville, died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003 at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born on August 23, 1914 at Irisburg, Henry County, VA, he was the son of the late Dr. William David Young Cahill and Ann Richardson Cahill.
He was married on June 17, 1950 to Elsie Gilliam Wooding, who died November 2, 1992.
He was a graduate of George Washington High School, attended V.P.I. Extension and graduated from Averett College.
A member of First Baptist Church, he was a Trustee and former Deacon and Sunday School teacher.
He served in World War II in the 99th Infantry Division, C Battery 332nd Field Artillery. He saw action in three major campaigns in the European Theatre, the Battle of Central Europe, Battle of the Bulge (Ardenne) and Battle of Ruhr Valley.
An aviation enthusiast, he held a private pilot's license until his health became impaired and was the owner of an Aeronca plane, a tail-dragger dubbed Charlie Brown.
He was also a member of the Danville Historical Society and the Danville Museum of Fine Arts and History and also the Southside Pilots Association.
At the time of his retirement in 1981 he was secretary-treasurer of Cahill Manufacturing Co.
He is survived by two sons, Dr. David Wooding Cahill and wife, Sandra Green Cahill of Tampa, Florida, and Herbert Gilliam Cahill and wife, Mindy Silverman Cahill of Chesapeake, VA; also six grandchildren, Erin, Austin and Laurin of Tampa, and Allison, Rebecca and Joshua of Chesapeake, VA.
He is also survived by a sister, Mary M. Cahill of Danville, VA and a nephew, Robert Young Cahill of Penhook, also a great niece and several great nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, William Starling Cahill, a sister, Florence Henry Cahill, and a nephew, William Starling Cahill Jr.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, February 6, 2003 at 2:00 PM from Mountain View Cemetery by Dr. Joey Faucette and Dr. Rodney Beals.
The family received friends on Wednesday night, February 5, 2003 at Townes Funeral Home from 7:00 - 8:30 PM and at other times will be at the residence.

George Herman 'Jiggs' Cousins Sr.
CALLANDS, Va. - George Herman "Jiggs" Cousins Sr., 81, of 18460 Franklin Turnpike, died Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2003, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born June 25, 1921, in Callands, he was a son of Paul Henry Cousins and Lilia Woodall Cousins.
He retired as a profile operator for American Furniture Company. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church of Callands.
He was a PFC in the U.S. Army during World War II serving in the South Pacific, from Nov. 19, 1942 to May 10, 1945. He was a member of the Archer Gammon Post, DAV Post 19.
He married Mildred Horsley Cousins on Feb. 5, 1947.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, George Cousins Jr. of the Mt. Hermon community; a daughter, Joan C. Wood of Danville; two brothers, Frank Cousins and Paul Cousins, both of Dry Fork; a sister, Mary Ann Rigney of Callands; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Judy C. Dalton; a brother, Harry Cousins and three sisters, Hallie Merricks, Annie Finney and Frances Marlowe.
The graveside funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Daryl Joyce officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Dan River Post 1097 Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at Barker Funeral Home and at other times the family will be at the residence.

Edward Lee Holley
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Edward Lee Holley, 63, formerly of Callands, Va., died one year ago on Feb. 6, 2002, at the Hospice & Palliative Care of Louisville's Norton Audubon Hospital.
After attending Callands High School, he served with the U.S. Army for four years, first in Panama and as a military policeman at Fort Eustis, Va. He then worked as a bailiff for the Hampton, Va. circuit court, leaving there and serving on the Danville Police Department for several years. He was offered a position with the Virginia State Police and after training was assigned to the Emporia area. For 35 years he worked in the health care field and at the time of his death was the executive director of the King's Daughters and Sons Foundation, Inc. in Louisville.
He is survived by four daughters, Katrina Maria Holley Quinn of Orlando, Fla., Mary-Helen, Kathryn and Annalee, all of Louisville; a sister, Angeline Richardson of Axton, Va. and five grandchildren.
He was buried
in Emporia, Va.

Wilson James Lockhart
SEMORA, N.C. - Wilson James Lockhart, 87, of 409 Scott Road, died Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2003, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born in Person County, he was a son of James Henry and Annie Clark Lockhart.
He moved to South Hill, Va. in 1958 and lived there for 29 years. He was a deacon at South Hill Christian Church. He later moved back to Semora in 1987. He was a retired farmer and a highway foreman with the Virginia Department of Transportation. He was a member of Lebanon Christian Church.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly Godsey Lockhart; three sons, Wilson Boyd Lockhart of Semora, Bill Wayne Lockhart of Richmond and Randy Lee Lockhart of Prince George; a daughter, Joy L. Shotwell of Semora and four grandchildren.
He was predeceased by three brothers, Malcolm Otis Lockhart, Harry Lockhart, Samuel Vaughn Lockhart and a sister, Clara L. Brown.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Lebanon Christian Church with the Rev. Rick Webster officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Ora Mae Daniels Setliff
DANVILLE, Va. - Ora Mae Daniels Setliff, 79, of 116 Rugby Road, died Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2003, at her residence.
Born Sept. 1, 1923, in Rockingham County, N.C., she was a daughter of Harry M. Daniels and Tera Bartee Daniels.
Mrs. Setliff had lived her entire life in the Danville area. She was a member of the Ferry Roads Friends Church and served as secretary/treasurer of the Virginia Willis Missionary Society for 40 years.
On Feb. 26, 1949, she was married to Calvin G. Setliff, who survives.
In addition to her husband of the home, she is survived by a son, Gregory Daniel Setliff and daughter-in-law, Paula Yeatts Setliff; a granddaughter, Allison Michelle Setliff; a brother, Rayford Daniels and three sisters, Mamie Mansfield, Jean Setliff and Dorothy Setliff, all of Danville.
She was predeceased by a grandson, Parker Daniel Setliff; two brothers, Doug Daniels and Herbert Langston Daniels and three sisters, Edith Carter, Margaret Turpin and Rebecca Willis.
The graveside funeral will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Danville Memorial Gardens with the Reverend Linwood R. Hairfield Sr. officiating.

John Thomas Strickland
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - John Thomas Strickland, 77, of 1092 Cluster Springs Road, died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, at his residence.
Born Dec. 13, 1925, in Halifax County, he was a son of Arthur Strickland and Lillian Crews Strickland.
He was a member of Black Walnut Baptist Church. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of the VFW.
He was married to Mattie Layne Strickland.
In addition to his wife of Cluster Springs, he is survived by a daughter, Mary Lee Conner of Mt. Laurel; a son, Tommy Strickland of Halifax; five sisters, Linwood Guthrie and Spotswood Davis, both of Nathalie, Elizabeth Saunders of Halifax, Jean Oakes of Alton and Alice Strickland of Tulsa, Okla.; a brother, Lee Strickland of Alamogordo, N.M.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. H.V. Conner and the Rev. Shelton Miles officiating. Interment will be in the Black Walnut Baptist Church Cemetery.

Edna J. Waller
DANVILLE, Va. - Edna J. Waller, 86, of 864 Edmonds St., died Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, in Danville Regional Medical Center after four months of declining health.
Born Aug. 26, 1916, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Foot Johnson and Mildred Susan Stone Johnson.
She lived all of her life in Danville. She was retired from Dan River Mills, Inc. and was a member of Brush Arbor Baptist Church.
She was married to Harry V. Waller, who predeceased her May 19, 1997.
She is survived by one son, Clarence N. Harville of Ringgold; one stepson, Tommy L. Harville of Danville; five daughters, Elizabeth H. Day, Virgie H. George and Nancy H. Newcomb, all of Danville, Catherine H. Wellman of Leesburg, Fla. and Delilah H. Batson of Wilmington, N.C.; four sisters, Annie J. Jones, Gracie J. Herndon and Faye J. Haskins, all of Chatham and Sadie J. Dixon of Roxboro, N.C.; 17 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Ann Harville; two grandsons, Clarence Steven Harville and Randall Scott Loftis; a brother, Leonard T. Johnson and four sisters, Louise J. Waller, Virginia J. Harberson, Dorothy J. Warren and Florence Johnson.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with the Rev. Stephen Lamb and the Rev. Walter Yancey officiating. Interment will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.

Johnnie James Wells
CALLANDS, Va. - Johnnie James Wells, age 79, of Callands, died Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2003, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
He was born on Nov. 26, 1923, in Pittsylvania County. He was the son of the late James Acree Wells and Effie Kendrick Wells.
He is survived by his wife, Callie Marlowe Wells of the residence. He is also survived by one daughter, Sheree W. Amos and her husband, Allen of Callands and one son, David M. Wells of Callands; four brothers, Emmett Wells of Dry Fork, George Wells of Danville, Jack Wells of Danville, Hassell Wells of Martinsville; five sisters, Mary W. Marlowe of Dry Fork, Virginia W. Herndon of Danville, Elma W. Herndon of Danville, Nadeen W. Tyler of Rustburg and Ruby W. Burge of Martinsville; four grandchildren, Darlene Turner, Lori Amos, Lydia Amos and Andrew Amos and two great-grandchildren, Nicole Turner and Michelle Turner.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold Wells and Dennis Wells.
He was a member of County Line Christian Church and a retired farmer.
Funeral services will be conducted at County Line Christian Church on Friday, Feb. 7, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. by the Ministers Dean Ashby, J.D. Hunt III and Tim Maness officiating. Burial will be at County Line Christian Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at County Line Christian Church on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2003 from 7-8:30 p.m and at other times will be at the residence.

George Robert Wise
DANVILLE, Va. - George Robert Wise, 77, formerly of 14 Dula St., died Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2003, at Piney Forest Health Care Center where he had been a patient since Dec. 18, 2000.
Born Sept. 23, 1925, in Holston County, he was a son of Newton Wise and Myrtle Tillison Wise.
He lived most of his life in Norfork where he retired from Smith Williams Funeral Home. He had lived in Danville for three years. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army.
He is survived by three daughters, Judy Counts of Chicago, Ill., Kathy Davis of Kingsport, Tenn. and Jo Ann Watford of Darlington, S.C.; a son, Larry Wayne Wise of Bristol; two brothers, Charlie Wise and Carl Wise, both of Danville; two sisters, Selma Owens and Christeen Wooten, both of Danville; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
The graveside funeral and interment will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Mt. View Cemetery in Bristol.

Katie Marie Noel Woody
MARTINSVILLE, Va. - Katie Marie Noel Woody, 59, of 144 New Light Church Road, died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, at the Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County.
Born April 21, 1943, in Martinsville, she was a daughter of James T. Noel and Annie Lee Napper Noel.
She lived in Martinsville and Henry County her entire life. She retired from V.P. Imagewear after 29 years of service. She was a member of New Light Baptist Church where she was on the Usher Board.
She is survived by a daughter, Charlotte Myers of the residence; two sons, Thomas (Nannie) Woody of Chatham and Kevin Woody of Eden, N.C.; six sisters, Maureen Hodge, Mary Noel, Denise Saxton, Dorothy Broady, all of Martinsville, Gladys Noel of Richmond and Annie Marshall of Hampton; four brothers, Freddie Noel, Chevis Noel, James Noel and John Henry Noel, all of Martinsville and six grandchildren.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Leah Dillard and Hattie Mae Martin.
The funeral will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at Pentecostal Assembly Building on Carver Road with the Rev. Robert T. Smith officiating. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 12:30-1 p.m. Saturday before the service at the church and at other times at the residence.
