KEELING, Va. - Curtis T. Jefferson Sr., 66, of 2035 Keeling Drive, died Thursday, Sept. 16, 1999, at Duke University Medical Center, Durham, N.C., after two months of declining health.
Born Feb. 26, 1933, in Danville, he was the son of Lemon Odell Jefferson who survives and the late Irene Mann Jefferson.
He was married
Dec. 13, 1952, to Sylvia Bell Jefferson, who survives.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving from 1952-1956, during the Korean Conflict. He spent most of his life in the Danville area where he retired in 1989, from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company.
In addition to his father of Danville, and his wife of the residence, survivors include one son, Curtis T. "Tommy" Jefferson Jr. of Keeling; one daughter, Joan Jefferson Bernard of Keeling; one brother, R. Wayne Jefferson of Danville; two grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by one brother, Henry Odell Jefferson.
A graveside service will be 4 p.m. Saturday at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. John Meadows and the Rev. Haywood Alcorn officiating.
The family will receive friends at the residence of his daughter, Joan J. Bernard, 1949 Keeling Drive, Keeling.

Marie Jones
DANVILLE, Va. - Marie Williams Jones, 69, of 1127 W. Stokes St., died 2 p.m. at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Feb. 10, 1930, she was the daughter of Albert Williams and Mary Williams.
She was married
to Oscar Jones, who predeceased her.
She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church where she was a member of several choirs and the Women's Sunday School Class No. 1, the PMB Hodge Missionary Society Group 4, and the Danville Regional Retirees Club.
Survivors include one daughter, Angie Jones Harris of Danville; one son, Reginald Hollis Jones of Danville; two sisters, Helen Williams and Ann Wilson, both of Danville; one brother Clyde Williams of Danville; and four grandchildren.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Baptist Church with the Rev. Brandon Smith officiating. Eulogy will be conducted by the Rev. Walter Griffin. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 4-8 p.m. Friday at Beavers Funeral Home Chapel and at other times at 209 Watkins Street and 513 Holbrook Street.
Grover Minter
CASCADE, Va. - Grover Landon Minter, 75, of 269 May Hardy Road, died Wednesday, September 15, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born March 23, 1924, in Henry County, he was the son of Tommy Joe Minter and Myrtle Bray Minter.
He was married
to Sylvia Hyler Minter, who survives.
He made his home in Danville for many years before moving to the Brosville area 28 years ago. He worked at Dan River Inc. in his earlier years before becoming a barber, and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include three daughters, Brenda Cobb of Liberty, N.C., Debbie Bryant and Rhonda Adkins, both of Danville; four sons, Rodger Minter, Terry Minter, Kevin Minter, all of Danville, and Dennis Minter of Brosville; one step-son, John Andrew "Andy" Sadler of Chapin, S.C.; three sisters, Gertrude Sage of Brosville, Nancy Inman of Danville and Irene Powell of Eden, N.C.; three brothers, Curtis Minter, Clifton Minter and Glen Minter, all of Axton; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with Bishop William Collins and the Rev. J.B. Baldridge officiating. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memory Garden.

Gloria Poole
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Gloria Sylvia Poole, 47, of P.O. Box 205, died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 1999, at Duke University Medical Center, Durham, N.C.
Born Dec. 21, 1951, in Halifax County, she was the daughter of Lennie Sebastian Poole and Maria Kink Poole, who survives.
She was a nurse with Urgent Care of South Boston and was a member of Grace Baptist Church.
In addition to her mother of South Boston, survivors include one daughter, Andrea Hines of Danville; four sisters, Roswitha Maria Jester of Ohio, Laura Sonia Toms of Bedford, Helen Susie Glass of Norfolk, and Easter Poole Edge of Lady Lake, Fla.
A funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel with Larry Jester officiating. Burial will be in Grace Baptist Church cemetery, Virgilina.

Nancy Suttle
VERO BEACH, Fla. - Nancy Clarke Suttle, 70, died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 1999, at Indian River Medical Hospital, after a prolonged illness.
She was born Aug. 30, 1929, in Danville, Va, she was the daughter of Reginald Clarke, and Loraine Clarke, who survives,
She was married
50 years to Clifford Suttle, who survives.
She moved to Vero Beach, 10 years ago from Macon, Ga.
She was a retired president and past owner of Employment Matchmakers Inc. in Macon, Ga.
In addition to her mother and husband, survivors include two sons, Allen Clarke Suttle of Raleigh, N.C., and Clifford Mark Suttle of Macon, Ga.; and three grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted graveside Saturday at 11 a.m. at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Jack F. Heinsohn Jr. officiating.

Ocey Gauldin
DANVILLE, Va. - Ocey Wood Gauldin, formerly of 927 Stokes St., died Thursday, Sept. 16, 1999, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home.
Born in Brosville, she was the daughter of Willis T. Wood and Parthenia Gauldin Wood.
She was married
Sept. 7, 1920, to Claude Swanson Gauldin Sr., who predeceased her Nov. 15, 1968.
She moved to Danville at age three, and was educated in the public schools. She received her musical training at Randolph-Macon College and Stratford College. She was a longtime member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormon). She held offices in many auxilliaries of the church and was a chorister for many years. She was a piano teacher for many years and a member of the Danville Historical Society at its onset. She participated in March of Dimes by walking in nine walk-a-thons. She worked for many years with City Beautiful Committee and was a member of the Auxilliary Veterans of Foreign War Post No. 647, as the historian. She was the youngest of five children, all predeceased.
In addition to five members of her immediate family, she was predeceased by one daughter Barbara Gauldin James.
Survivors include one son, Claude Swanson Gauldin Jr. of Roanoke; two daughters, Lynwood G. Pugh and Patricia G. Martin, both of Danville; 12 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Monday at National cemetery, Lee Street with the Elder Edward F. Sparrow and Bishop William Collins officiating.
The family will receive friends Sunday 7-8:30 p.m. at Swicegood Funeral Home and at other times at the residence of her daughter, Patricia Martin, 650 Holland Road.
Georgia Hunt
DANVILLE, Va. - Georgia Bell Dameron Hunt, 90, of 600 Main St., Apt. 504, died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 1999, at Piney Forest Health Care Center.
Born March 29, 1909, in Caswell County, N.C., she was the daughter of Phillip Clifford Dameron and the late Mary Elizabeth Lee Dameron.
She was married
to Berkley Tas Hunt, who predeceased her May 29, 1998.
She was a housewife and attended the White Rock Missionary Church, Ringgold.
Survivors include one daughter, Gladys Stamps of Alexandria; two sons, Junior Douglas Hunt of Patterson, N.J., and John Arthur Hunt of Philadelphia; one sister, Alice Alexander of Bayside, N.Y.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at White Rock Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Curtis Strader officiating. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.

Bobbie Jackson
SUTHERLIN, Va. - Bobbie Jo Wade Jackson, 22, of 2091 Davmunds Trail, died Thursday, Sept. 16, 1999, at her home.
Born June 23, 1977 in Halifax County, she was the daughter of Owen Wade and Wanda Conner Lacks.
She was a homemaker.
In addition to her parents, survivors include stepparents, Tammy Wade and James Lacks; one son, Brian Michael Jones II of Sutherlin; a daughter, Madelyn Jackson of Sutherlin; paternal grandmother, Ruth Wade of Clover; maternal grandmother, Hazel Barker of Alton; three sisters, Tammy Moore of South Boston, Tiffany Wade of Scottsburg, and Jodie Stolzenthaler of Charlotte County; three brothers, Douglas Lacks of Cleveland, Jeremy Wade of Scottsburg, and Chris Wade of Chase City.
She was predeceased by her grandfathers.
A funeral will be 4 p.m. Sunday at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tony Brooks officiating. Burial will be in Clover cemetery, Clover.

Hunter Long
CASCADE, Va. - Hunter Bruce "Buck" Long, 62, of 877 Long Circle, Cascade, died at his residence Friday morning September 17, 1999, after a decline in health of seven months.
Mr. Long was born in the Brosville community of Pittsylvania County on July 24, 1937, a son of the late David Anderson Long and Alma Bowlin Long, who survives.
He was married
to Grace Blackstock Long who survives.
Mr. Long had made his home in the Brosville community all of his life where he was a member of Brosville United Methodist Church. He was a tobacco buyer with the American Tobacco Company for 38 years before retiring.
Survivors in addition to his mother of Brosville and his wife of the residence include two daughters: Nancy Coleman and her husband Dr. Tom Coleman of Lutz, Florida, and Miss Susan Long of Brosville, and three sons: Hunter Bruce Long, Jr., and his wife Denise Long of Brosville, and Michael Kierman of Brosville, and Philip Kierman of Virginia Beach, and two brothers: Jimmy A. Long of Danville, and David A. Long, Jr., of Brosville, and three grandchildren: Jon Philip Pyron, Erica Weatherford, and Blake Gillispie.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday at Brosville United Methodist Church by the Rev. Dave Rochford. Interment
will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at Swicegood Funeral Home on Sunday evening from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m., and at other times at the residence in the Brosville community.
