Norman Edwards Sr.
MARTINSVILLE, Va. - Norman Taylor Edwards Sr., 77, of 1608 Mulberry Road, died Thursday, Sept. 23, 1999, at his residence.
Born Dec. 21, 1921, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Daniel Coleman Edwards and Buelah Cook Edwards.
He was married
to Eldean Hazelwood Edwards, who survives.
He was a veteran of World War II, and a retiree from Dupont.
He was a member of the Calvary Christian Church, Knights of Pythians and a member of the Martinsville Bulldog Booster Club.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include three sons, Norman Taylor Edwards Jr. of Axton, Nelson Coleman Edwards of Martinsville and James R. Moran of Ridgeway; one brother, Charles Edwards of Danville; one sister, Louise Martin of Danville; and three grandchildren.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at McKee-Stone Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Eldon Morgan and Dick Hensley officiating. Burial will be in Big A Church cemetery, near Stuart, with military rites conducted by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Rosie James
SCOTTSBURG, Va. - Rosie Gilmore James, 78, of 3012 Burton Road, died Sunday, Sept. 19, 1999, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
She was born Jan. 1., 1921, in Halifax County.
Survivors include one daughter, Rosa James of Scottsburg; one son, Jerry Gilmore of Scottsburg; four sisters, Marie Breedlove of Nathalie, Hilda Dixon of Richmond, Silvia Gilmore of Baltimore, Md., Mary King of Fayetteville, N.C.; one brother, Tinsley Gilmore of Scottsburg; and seven grandchildren.
There will be a viewing one hour prior to the service.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Crystal Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Louis Leigh Sr. officiating.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Charlie Montague
CINCINNATI - Charlie J. Montague, of 1556 Wittekind Terrace, died Monday, Sept. 20, 1999, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati.
He was born March 10, 1909, in Danville, Va.
He was married
to Eliza H. Montague, who predeceased him.
He lived on Holbrook Avenue for many years before moving to Ohio with his granddaughter.
Survivors include one stepson, James Hairston of Danville; one sister, Thelma Wilson of Danville; and one granddaughter.
A funeral will be Friday at noon at Bibleway Worldwide Church with Apostle Rev. Lawrence Campbell officiating. Interment
will be at Oak Hill cemetery.

Junius Watlington Jr.
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Junius A. Watlington Jr., 74, died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 1999, at Duke University Medical Center, Durham, N.C.
He was the son of Carrie Ratliff Watlington of South Boston, who survives.
He was married
to Jean DeJarnette Watlington, who survives.
Ltc. Junius was retired from the United States Army, where he served in the Military Intelligence Corps for 46 years in both a military and civilian capacity.
He was inducted into the Military Intelligence Corps Hall of Fame in 1992.
He graduated from Cluster Springs High School, Ferrum Junior College, attended the University of Alabama and received his BA degree from the University of Maryland.
He was a member of Mount Cana United Methodist Church.
In addition to his mother and wife of South Boston, survivors include one daughter, Carol Watlington of Tucson, Ariz.; one step-son, Willie J. Nichols III of Charlottesville; two brothers, Tom R. Watlington of South Boston and Bernard E. Watlington of Albuquerque, N.M., and one sister, Jean W. Webb of Hopewell.
He was predeceased by one brother, Donald W. Watlington.
A funeral will be held at Powell Funeral Home Saturday with the Rev. Dr. Bob Fox officiating.
Burial will be in Oak Ridge cemetery.

Myrtle Williams
CANA, Va. - Myrtle Marie Jones Williams, 65, of 903 Paul's Creek Road, died Sunday, Sept. 19, 1999, at her residence.
Born Oct. 21, 1933, in Carroll County, Va., she was the daughter of Earlie W. Jones and Arilda Jones.
She was married
to Gifford Lee Williams, who survives.
She was the owner and operator of Myrtle Williams Home Interiors and was a member of Paul's Creek Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include two daughters, Gail McGhee of Danville, and Terry Leigh Jones of Cana; two sons, Larry Dale Williams of Danville and Wade Williams of Rutherford, N.C.; five sisters, Goldie Combs and Ollie McCreary, both of Cana, Sally Dowell of Danville, Earlene McHone of Mt. Airy, N.C. and Jerlene Neubauer of Roanoke; one brother, Robert Jones of Cana; 13 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by one sister, Ann Bryant; five brothers, Earlie Arlis Jones, Everett Wallace Jones, Henry Elmo Jones, Alfred Garner Jones and Earl Ray Jones.
A funeral was held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Paul's Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Tony Holder officiating.
Burial was in the church cemetery.

Cheryl Hall
BALTIMORE - Cheryl Denise Hall, 34, of 7411 Lesada Drive, died Sunday, Sept. 19, 1999, at her residence.
Born Sept. 16, 1965, in Danville, Va., she was the daughter of Eulas Holland and Rachel Gwynn Holland.
She was married
to Darren Hall, who survives.
In addition to her husband, survivors include two sons, Darrius LeKeith Hall and Trevor Lavonte Hall, both of Baltimore; three sisters, Celestine Akers and Taffney Holland, both of Danville and Zina Way of Cleveland.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at White Rock Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Walter Tinsley officiating. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the residence of her mother, 226 Quarry St.

Helen Cassidy
DANVILLE, Va. - Helen Jeanette Cassidy, 73, formerly of Danville, died Friday, Sept. 24, 1999, in Rex Hospital in Raleigh, N.C.
Born June 1, 1926 in Danville, she was the daughter of Howard Franklin Cassidy and Lettie May Gregory Cassidy.
She was married
to John H. Moorefield who died Feb. 2, 1984.
She is survived by nine children, four brothers, 23 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Private graveside services were held Saturday at 3 p.m. from Mountain View cemetery.

Ronnie Grant
CHATHAM, Va. - Rondie Gail "Ronnie" Grant, age 57, of 560 Samuel Harris Road, died Thursday, Sept. 23, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born April 20, 1942, in Norfolk, he was the son of the late Rev. Charlie Grant and Florence Dalton Grant.
He was married
to Sandra Faye Haley Grant, who survives.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include one daughter, Brenda S. Grant of Chatham; three brothers, Jackie D. Hill, Kenneth M. Hill and Herman Grant, all of Danville.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Scott Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Donald L. Bowden Jr. Interment
will be in Hillcrest Burial Park.

Pearlie Burnett Hudgins
DANVILLE, Va. - Pearlie Rivers Dix Burnett Hudgins, 95, formerly of 826 Old Mayfield Road, died Friday, Sept. 24, 1999, at Riverside Health Care Center, where she had been a resident since May 1994.
Born Jan. 21, 1904, in Caswell County, N.C., she was the daughter of Berry Roy Dix and Jennie Jordon Dix.
She married
Willie J. Burnett Jan. 2, 1921, who predeceased her Feb. 7, 1974. She later married
Alex Hudgins Nov. 19, 1977, who also predeceased her.
She lived her life in the Ringgold community and in the Danville area where she was a member of First Pentecostal Holiness Church, and a past member of the Airport Sunshine Club. She was a homemaker.
She was survived by a sister, Ruby Dix Atkins of Slauda.
A funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. Joe Beck officiating. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 p.m. Saturday at the chapel and at other times at the residence of Beth Chattin and Harold Chattin, 235 Woodside Road.
Chandois "CB" Phillips
DANVILLE, Va. - Chandois B. "CB" Phillips, 71, of 831-A Springfield Road, died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 1999, at his residence.
Born May 17, 1928, in Randolph, he was the son of Charles W. Phillips II and Dollie R. Phillips.
He was married
to Ida Early Phillips, who predeceased him.
He was a Virginia Cooperative Extension Agent and a member of Camp Grove Baptist Church, where he served on the usher board; American Legion Post No. 29; Friendship Club; Danville Chapter of Virginia State Alumni; NAACP; National Association of Retired Federal Employees; and the Friday Breakfast Club.
He is survived by two daughters, Iris D. Phillips of Fort Washington, Md., and Chandois D. Phillips of Alexandria; one brother, Francis T. Phillips of Washington, and one grandson.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Camp Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. W.J. Toomer, eulogist. Interment
will follow in Galilee Baptist Church cemetery in Saxe.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Camp Grove Baptist Church prior to the service. Mr. Phillips may be viewed from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Cunningham & Hughes Funeral Home.
Rev. George Riser
SUTHERLIN, Va. - George William Riser, 82, of 733 White Ridge Road, died Friday, Sept. 24, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 30, 1917, in Patterson, N.J., he was the son of William Riser and Mae Phillip Riser.
He was married
Sept. 27, 1945, to Elizabeth Elsie Korona Riser, who survives.
He was a minister for 42 years.
He was the pastor of Sandy Creek Baptist Church for eight years before retiring 16 years ago.
After retiring from Sandy Creek Baptist Church, he served churches in Connecticut, Delaware and Pennsylvania.
He was also a member of Ringgold Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife of Sutherlin, survivors include one daughter, Clara Ann Riser Capwell of Bethlehem, Pa.; one son, David Everett Riser of New Orleans; one brother, Dave Riser of Hackins, N.J.; and four grandchildren.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Ringgold Baptist Church with the Rev. Carl Burger and the Rev. Dale Proctor officiating. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memory Garden.
