Margie Snider
INVERNESS, Fla. - Margie Huff Snider, 58, of 7772 E. Gulf To Lake Highway, died Thursday, Sept. 23, 1999, at the residence.
Born June 5, 1941, in Henry County, Va., she was the daughter of Charles Hubert Huff and Mary Carter Huff.
She was married
to Chris E. Snider, who survives.
In addition to her husband, survivors include two sons, Michael Snider of Inverness, and Kevin Snider of Crystal River; five sisters, Betty Payne of Spencer, Va., Lena Lawrence of Martinsville, Va., Nellie Rumley of Huntsville, Texas, Janice Bates of Danville, Va. and Mamie Juel of Chesterfield, S.C.; three brothers, George Huff of Cascade, Va., Jimmy Huff of Axton, Va., and Ronnie Huff of Niceville, Fla.; and two grandchildren.
She was predeceased by one brother, Thomas Huff; and one sister, Estelle Flippen.
A private memorial service will be held at Inverness Fla.
Davis Funeral Home in Inverness Fla. is charge of the arrangements.
Samuel Grogan Jr.
CAYCE, Va. - Samuel Henry Grogan Jr., 73, died Saturday, Sept. 25, 1999.
Born in Danville, he was the son of the late Samuel Henry Grogan Sr. and Hattie Scearce Grogan.
He married
Naomi "Peggy" Emerson Grogan, who survives.
He attended Edwards Memorial Presbyterian Church. Formerly of Danville, he had been a resident since 1960. He retired from the United States Navy after 28 years of service and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association, American Legion, Lions Club, and was a Mason and Shriner.
In addition to his wife of Cayce, survivors include two daughters, Sherry Grogan Taylor of Newnan, Ga., and Rebecca Grogan Mulinix of Cayce; one sister, Clara Dean Smith of Baton Rouge, La; one grandchild.
A memorial services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Edwards Memorial Presbyterian Church with the Rev. John Rogers officiating.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia.
Ivor Saunders
DANVILLE, Va. - Ivor Thomas Saunders, 63, of 16 Withers Road, died Monday morning, Sept. 27, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center after three weeks of declining health.
Born March 15, 1936, in Danville, he was the son of the late Ivor Clinton Saunders and Ruby Martin Saunders, who survive.
He spent most of his life in Danville where he was a member and very active at Sandy Shores Baptist Church. He served as head usher at the church. He previously worked for Tom Jones Danville Glass Service where he worked for 10 years, and then worked for two years at Clearview Glass before retiring. After retirement, he worked part time for Apple Auto Glass of Danville Inc.
In addition to his mother of the residence, survivors include one son, Allen Thomas Saunders of Danville; one daughter, Debbie Saunders Richmond of Providence, N.C.; four brothers, A. Owen Saunders of Wilmington, N.C., Kenneth Wayne Saunders, Cecil Hagood Saunders, and Benny Ray Saunders, all of Danville; two sisters, Annie S. Carter of Chilhowie, and Bonnie S. Hardy of Danville; and three grandchildren.
A funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Billy Scearce and the Rev. Neal Isom officiating. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Edwin Wilson
GRETNA, Va. - Edwin Wilson, 96, of 10309 Chalk Level Road, died Sunday, Sept. 26, 1999, in Piney Forest Health Care Center.
Born Oct. 7, 1902, in Halifax County, he was the son of William Wilson and Martha F. Hardie Wilson.
He was married
to Susie McCraw Wilson, who survives.
He was a charter member and oldest serving elder in the Memorial Presbyterian Church, Volens. He was retired owner of Chalk Level Store and was a retired farmer.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include two daughters, Phyllis Holt of Emerald Isle, N.C., and Geraldine Amos of Virginia Beach; one sister, Helen Fathing of Blairs; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preedceased by two brothers, Lawrence Wilson and Fred Wilson; four sisters, Lillian Younger, Evelyn Riddle, Frances Hill and Nellie Wilson.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Memorial Presbyterian Church with the Rev. R.G. Rowland officiating. Burial will be in church cemetery, Halifax County.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and at other times at the residence.
Luther Bowling
DANVILLE, Va. - Luther T. Bowling, 70, of 500 North Point Lane, Apt. 104A, died Monday, Sept. 27, 1999, at Moses Cone Hospital, Greensboro, N.C.
Born July 24, 1929, in Clarksville, he was the son of Luther Thaddous Bowling and Nellie Mae Oliver Bowling.
He married
Cora Bowling, who survives.
He was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a self-employed contractor prior to his retirement.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include three daughters, Dorothy Reaves of Danville, Betty Patrick of Grovetown, Ga., and Lois Fagan of Greensboro, N.C.; two sisters, Louise Day of Newark, N.J., and Juanita B. Jones of Chase City; one brother, Forest E. Bowling of Kembridge.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home Chapel with the Elder Arthur Moore officiating. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.

Timothy Brown
OAKDALE, Va. - Timothy N. Brown, 58, of 44 Chapel Hill Road, died Monday, Sept. 27, 1999, at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in New London, Ct.
Born in Detroit, he was the son of Francis Brown and Mary Kauffman Brown.
He was married
in 1972, to Cheryl Gilbert Brown in Niantic, who survives.
He was proprietor of Waterford and Niantic Chevron Stations. He also operated a Chevron Station in Mystic. In 1975, he became a mechanic for Connecticut, maintaining cars for Troop E. He was an insurance liaison for Connecticut from 1986-1995.
Survivors include four daughters, Ruth Ellen Wright of Winston-Salem, N.C., Beth Ann Brown of Harmony, N.C., Sandra Brown Shaw of Plainfield, Ct., Theresa Walsh of Westerly, R.I.; three brothers, David R. Coplin of Danville, Robert D. Coplin of Portland, Ore., Ronald E. Naumann of Detroit; two sisters, Sandra Brown Fitzgerald of Quaker Hill, Carol Williamson of Detroit; and seven grandchildren.
He was predeceased by one son, Thomas Lee Brown.
A funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Niantic Community Church. Burial will be in Elm Grove cemetery, Mystic.

Cordie Parsons
CHATHAM, Va. - Cordie Oakes Parson, 86, of 532 Jefferson Drive, died Monday, Sept. 27, 1999, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home in Danville.
Born April 4, 1913, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Carr Oakes and Lula Yeatts Oakes.
She married
Melvin Corbin Parsons, who predeceased her.
She was a member of Chatham Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include one son, Leonard C. Parsons of Chatham; three brothers, Curtis Oakes of Penhook, Carlton Oakes of Penhook, and Leslie Oakes of Glade Hill; two sisters, Gladys O. Reynolds of Penhook and Bernice Oakes of Martinsville.
A funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Scott Funeral Home with the Rev. Walker Pettyjohn officiating. Interment
will be in Chatham Burial Park.

Hazel Skiles
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Hazel Bennett Skiles, 80, died Monday, Sept. 27, 1999, at The Woodview.
Born July 12, 1919, in Halifax County, she was the daughter of Eward T. Bennett and Marion C. Bennett.
She was married
to Herman P. Skiles.
She was a member of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include one sister, Inez B. Nichols of Clover.
She was predeceased by one sister, Arlene B. Matzner.
A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Crewe cemetery with the Rev. Douglas Paysour officiating.
The family will receive friends at the home of Don and Ginger Weaver, 345 Maple Ave., Halifax.

James Still
DANVILLE, Va. - James Russell Still, age 89, of 129 Bromley Drive, died at his residence Monday afternoon September 27, 1999, after a decline in health of 15 years.
Mr. Still was born in Danville, on June 15, 1910, a son of the late James Lewis Still and Gussie McBride Still.
He married
Sadie Strader Still on May 6, 1939, and she died on August 5, 1997.
Mr. Still was a veteran of the United States Army serving in Panama prior to World War II. He had spent most of his life in Danville. He was a welder, and during World War II, he was a welder at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard, and also worked as an electrician and farmer. He worked as a welder at Dan River, Inc., for the last 17 years before retirement, and was a charter member of Woodlawn Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter: Linda Chapin and her husband Steve Chapin of LaGrange, Ohio, and one son: Russell "Pete" Still of the residence, and five sisters: Evelyn Sells of Hampton, Georgia, and Miss Edith Still, Mildred Jones, and Loraine Phelps, all of Danville, and Ruby Martin of Ringgold, and one brother: Claude R. Still of Callao, and three grandchildren: Chris Chapin, Don Chapin, and Jean Chapin.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Harry L. Still and Raymond Still.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Woodlawn Baptist Church by the Rev. William Blalock. Interment
will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.

NORFOLK, Va. - Mary Dallas Gammon, 78, of 1700 block of Hancock Avenue, died Monday, Sept 13, 1999, at her residence.
She was born in Pittsylvania County.
She was married
to James "Jim" Gammon, who survives.
She was a registered nurse and retired as nursing supervisor from Lafayette Villa Nursing Home. She was a member of Park Place United Methodist Church, the Christian Adult Class, and member and Starpoint, Westminster Chapter No. 99 and Order of the Eastern Star.
In addition to her husband, survivors include two daughters, Diane G. Willis of Norfolk, Kaye G. Gibboney of Chesapeake; one son, Gordon R. Gammon of Virginia Beach; four sisters, Mable Powell of Yanceyville, Lois Agee of Richmond, Virginia Murphy of Dry Fork and Jerrine Hamill of Springfield; one brother, Henry C. Dallas of Dry Fork; and five grandchildren.
A funeral will be 1 p.m. Friday at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, with the Rev. Dr. Charles Smith officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn cemetery.
The family will receive friends 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
