GLADYS, Va. - Emma Jean Wells Seamster, 40, of Mitchell Road, died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 1999, at Virginia Baptist Hospital.
Born July 16, 1959, in Halifax County, she was the daughter of Jimmy Wells and Janie Miller Wells.
She was married
to Owen Seamster, who survives.
In addition to her husband of Gladys, survivors include two daughters, Betty Robertson of Pamplin and Tammy Davis of Gladys; two sons, Robert Davis and Jonathan Seamster, both of Gladys; three sisters, Edith Stancel of Norfolk, Mary Jane Austin of Evington and Revea Wiseley of Hurt; two brothers, Howard Wells of Brookneal and James Wells of Evington; two step-sons, Steve Seamster of Baltimore, and Roger Seamster of Roanoke; two step-daughters, Ida Honyoust of Halifax, and Dorothy Horta of Brookneal; and three grandchildren.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Chuck Saunders and the Rev. Clyde Crowder officiating. Burial will be at Clover Bottom Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Clyde Gunn
DANVILLE, Va. - Clyde W. Gunn, 50, of 224 Wilkerson Road, died Tuesday, Sept, 28, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Feb. 11, 1949, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of James C. Gunn and Nadye Smith Gunn.
He was a laborer with Dan River Inc.
In addition to his mother of the residence, survivors include one daughter, Vickie Stamps of the residence; one brother, Larry Gunn of Philadelphia; and one sister, Elsie Terrance of Detroit.
A funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Cunningham and Hughes Funeral Home with the Rev. Delaware Clark officiating. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
A viewing will be 4-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Bernice Harlow
LYNCHBURG, Va. - Bernice Wyatt Harlow, 72, of 7140 Meadowbrook Road, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 1999, at Lynchburg General Hospital after an unexpected illness.
She was married
52 years to James H. "Jim" Harlow.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Chestnut Hill United Methodist Church with the Rev. Nolan Crowder officiating. Entombment will be at Fort Hill Memorial Park Mausoleum, Garden of Peace.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Helen West Martin
DANVILLE, Va. - Helen West Martin, 90, of 231 South Ridge Street died Tuesday afternoon, September 28, 1999 at Danville Regional Medical Center after several years of declining health.
Born September 27, 1909 in Rosebush Michigan, she was the daughter of the late John B. And Margaret West.
She spent most of her adult life in Syracuse, N.Y. She married
Allan R. Martin in 1931. He predeceased her in 1979.
She was a member of St. Andrew the Apostle Church in Syracuse prior to moving to Danville in 1995. She attended Sacred Heart Church while residing here.
Survivors include a son and daughter in law, Allan R. and Angela Martin of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and two daughters and sons in law, Norma and Richard Howard of Ringgold, and Sandra and Lynne Simmons of Binghamton, N.Y. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass will be conducted at St. Andrew the Apostle Church on Wednesday, October 6, 1999. Interment
will be at St. Mary's cemetery in Dewitt, N.Y. A memorial Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church, Danville at a later date.

Missouri Vaden
BLAIRS, Va. - Missouri Coleman Vaden, 81, of 541 Pritchett Lane, died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 1999, at Vencor Hospital in Greensboro, N.C.
Born Sept. 16, 1918, in Halifax County, she was the daughter of Lewis Coleman and Virginia Barksdale Coleman.
She was married
to Lawrence Vaden, who survives.
She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include one daughter, Clara Medley of Queens Village, N.Y.; two sons, Lawrence Vaden Jr., of Blairs, Willard McLaughlin of Compton, Ca.; and one sister, Annie C. McLaughlin of Saline, Kan.
Aviewing will be held Friday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Bethel Baptist Church Dr. Thomas Johnson officiating. Burial will be in church cemetery.

Frank Witcher
DANVILLE, Va. - Frank Witcher, 80, of 319 Winstead Drive, died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Sept. 18, 1919, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of William Witcher and Annie Benton Witcher.
He was married
to Edith Howard Witcher, who survives.
He was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a supervisor at Bill Communication Corp. in New York, prior to his retirement. He was also a member of Red Hill Baptist Church where he sang in the male chorus.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two sisters Helen Weatherford of Danville and Hattie Harris of Dover, Dele.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Red Hill Baptist Church, Pelham, N.C. with the Rev. Gregory Hopkins officiating. Burial will be in church cemetery with military rites conducted by the American Legion Post No. 29.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Herman Crenshaw
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Herman Rodger Crenshaw, 73, of 2137 Willow St., died Thursday, Sept. 30, 1999, at North Carolina Baptist Hospital.
Born Dec. 10, 1925, in Halifax County, he was the son of Shelton John Crenshaw and Sally Moorefield Crenshaw.
He was married
to Beulah Puryear Crenshaw, who survives.
He was a member of Ash Avenue Baptist Church, where he served as deacon. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 8, Veteran of Foreign War Post No. 8243, and a life time member of the South Boston Fire Department.
In addition to his wife of South Boston, survivors include two sons, Rodger Lee Crenshaw and Randy Thomas Crenshaw, both of South Boston; four sisters, Baker C. Moore of Clarksville, Louise H. Stinson of Halifax, Helen C. Hackney and Jean C. White, both of Danville; one brother, John Wesley Crenshaw; and seven grandchildren. He was predeceased by one son, Robin J. Crenshaw.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. John Fariss officiating. Burial will be in Oak Ridge cemetery with military rites. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Saturday at Powell Funeral Home and at other times at the residence.
Marion Dalton
DANVILLE, Va. - Marion Yeaman Dalton, 66, of 1613 Washington St., died Friday, Oct. 1, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center where she stayed for one day after several years of declining health. Born Oct. 6, 1932, in Danville, she was the daughter of Joseph Dameron Yeaman Sr. and Lucille Shelton Yeaman.
She married
Feb. 11, 1950, to Edgar Monroe Dalton Sr., who survives. She lived all her life in Danville where she was a homemaker. She was a 35-year member of Baptist Tabernacle.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include three daughters, Patricia D. Willis and Donna D. Powell, both of Danville and Sharon D. Wilmoth of West Columbia, S.C.; one son, Edgar Monroe (Eddie) Dalton Jr., of Alton; one brother, Raymond Yeaman of Danville; and one sister, Edith Y. Doak of Danville; and seven grandchildren.
A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Freddie Vicks officiating.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel and at other times at the residence of her daughter Patricia D. Willis, 712 Livestock Road, off Route 29 N.
Lucille Flowers
DANVILLE, Va. - Lucille Flowers of 398 Hawthorne Drive, died Friday, October 1, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born July 8, 1909, in Poquoson, Va., she was the daughter of Blanche and Sydney Moore.
Mrs. Flowers was married
in April of 1933, to Bert Flowers who predeceased her on August 27, 1991.
She was educated at Eastman School of Business in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. Prior to moving to Danville, Mrs. Flowers was employed as secretary to the President of Newport News Shipbuilding Co. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Danville Golf Club and the Danville Museum of Fine Arts and History. Mrs. Flowers was a member of First Baptist Church since 1936.
She is survived by three daughters, Mary Ceile Ogburn and husband Sam Ogburn of Winston Salem, N.C., Ellen Bridgers and husband Odell Bridgers of Wilmington, N.C., and Carolyn F. Wilson and husband Charles Wilson of Chicago, Ill.; three grandchildren Sam Ogburn Jr. and wife Jane, Elizabeth Ogburn Swinson and husband Mack Swinson of Winston Salem, N.C., Susan Wilon of Nashville Tenn. and four great-grandchildren, Sam Ogburn III, Jack Ogburn and Mary Swinson and Micheal Swinson of Winston Salem, N.C..
The family will receive friends at the residence at 398 Hawthorne Drive.

Roy High
DANVILLE, Va. - Roy Hurt High, 67, of 600 Main St., died Friday morning, Oct. 1, 1999, at the VA Veterans Care Center, Roanoke.
Born April 11, 1932, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of George W. High Sr. and Mary Amos High.
He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, receiving the Korean Servicing Medal with four stars, and four major battle campaigns, and also the Purple Heart, good conduct medal, and Asian medals and ribbons. He received the presidential unit citation action beyond the call of duty, and the Republic of Korea Presidential Citation for action in Korea. He was a hotel clerk and of the Baptist faith. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War. He made his home in Danville for the past 10 years spending most of his life in Pennsylvania.
Survivors include one son, Roy High Jr., of Arizona; three daughters, Bridgett Phelps of Thomasville, N.C., Debra Scott and Annette Ehoff, both of Philadelphia; two brothers, Elvin High of Salt Lake City, and George High Jr. of Danville; two sisters, Mary Weigher of Christiana, Pa., and Linda Bowman of Danville; and 10 grandchildren.
A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Tim Nuckles and the Rev. Ray Wiggs officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Memorial Post No. 325 Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends at the residence of his sister, Linda Bowman, 753 Mt. View Drive, off Holland Road.

Robert Johnston
MARTINSVILLE, Va. - Robert Justice Johnston, 76, of 9640 Chatham Road, Mountain Valley Community, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 1999, at his residence.
Born May 12, 1923, in Mountain Valley Community, he was the son of Thomas Johnston and Mattie Fowlkes Johnston.
He was married
to Aileen Bryant Johnston, who survives.
He served in the United States Army during World War II, and was an avid hunter and bee keeper. He was a member of Valley Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include six daughters, Joan J. Nuckols of Callands, Judy J. Garrett of Axton, Brenda J. Deal of Chatham, Martha J. Hatchett of Collinsville, Becky J. Santiago of Tyrone, Ga., and Lisa J. Walker of Danville; two sons, Dennis Johnston and Michael Johnston, both of Martinsville; three sisters, Alice Donovant of Altavista, Eva Reynolds of Sandy Level, and Georgia Prillaman of Martinsville; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Callie Finney and Pearl Finney; and two brothers, Noel T. Johnston and Andrew Johnston.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Valley Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. Harry Johnston, Rev. Haywood Alcorn, Rev. Harry Meadows and the Rev. Jack Coe officiating. Burial will be in Johnston Family cemetery- Mountain Valley.

DANVILLE, Va. - Mattie Wright Joyce, 78, of 321 Brentwood Drive, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center after two days in the hospital and one week of declining health.
Born July 14, 1921, in Cedar Bluff, she was the daughter of Henry Wright and Edna Martin Wright. She was married
Oct. 16, 1947, to Thurman Roscoe Joyce, who survives. She lived in Danville since 1971, and was a member of Keen Street Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include two daughters, Vickie J. Wheelock of Hope, Mich., and Rhonda L. Joyce of Edinburg; five sisters, Louise W. Farley of Delbarton, W.Va., Ruth W. Rutherford of Matewon, W.Va., Mable W. Maynard of Glen Daniel, W. Va., Margie W. Wyatt of Stuart, and Betty W. Thompson of Ridgeway; one brother, Henry M. Wright Jr. of Columbus, Ohio; six grandchildren and five great- grandchildren.
A graveside service will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Thomas Brown officiating.
