Rosa Moss
FREDRICK, Md. - Mrs. Rosa Bethel Moss, 103, a homemaker who was 12 days short of her 104th birthday, of 6898 Crabapple Court, and formerly of Danville, Va., died Sunday, Sept. 26, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.
She was the wife of Lawrence P. Moss, who died in 1976.
Born Oct. 7, 1895, in Danville, Va., she was a daughter of the late John Henry and Kate Ann Durham Shorter. Mrs. Moss was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Forestville.
Surviving are two sons, Alvin B. Moss of American Canyon, Calif., and Lawrence P. Moss Jr. of Danville; two daughters Barbara A. Wheatley of Frederick, and Marguerite M. Mattison of Bowie; four sisters, Julia Mahan of Atlanta, Ga., Ruth Goble and Ruby Bass, both of Danville, Va., and Lessie Bray of Richmond, Va.; seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at Mountain View cemetery in Danville, Va., at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 9 with Pastor Caldwell Day officiating.
Irma Strauss
Mrs. Irma Johnson Strauss, 91, of 15305 N.C. Hwy. 119 North, Semora, N.C., died Thursday, September 30, 1999, at the Brian Center, Yanceyville, N.C.
She was born July 30, 1908, in Wake County, North Carolina, the daughter of Robert Hupton Johnson and Frances Prience Johnson, both deceased.
She worked for Social Security in Washington, D.C. and retired from North Carolina State College in 1942. She was a member of Yanceyville United Methodist Church for 20 years. A member of Semora United Methodist Church and a homemaker.
She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Walter Strauss, in 1986. She was also prdeceased by her grandmother, Denise W. Hill.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Jean Wall of Semora, N.C.; one brother, Graham Johnson of Burlington, N.C.
She is also survied by: three grandchildren; Ben Wall, Glenn Wall and Mike Wall; and five great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Yanceyville United Methodist church cemetery, by Rev. Michael Roach and Rev. Ross O'Neal.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at Marley Funeral Home, Yanceyville, N.C. At other times the family will be at the home of her daughter, at 15305 NC Hwy. 119 N. Semora, N.C.
Mildred Swann
DANVILLE, Va. - Mildred Myers Swann, 79, of 159 Davenport St., off North Main Street, died suddenly Friday, Oct. 1, 1999, after five days at Danville Regional Medical Center. Born Feb. 9, 1920, in the Blanche Community of Caswell County, N.C., she was the daughter of George Myers and Minnie Lanier Chandler Myers.
She was married
to William Thomas Swann, who survives.
She lived all her life in the Danville area where she was a homemaker. She was a member of Woodberry Hills Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include three sons, the Rev. Ronald Swann of Covington, Ga., Richard Swann of Roanoke, and Tommy Swann of the residence; three brothers, Julian Myers of Blanche, N.C., Thomas Myers of Vernon Hill, N.C., and Monroe Myers of Yanceyville, N.C.; two sisters, Ellen M. Turner and Thelma M. Hicks, both of Yanceyville; and three grandchildren.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. Lewis P. Harris officiating. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 1-1:45 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home and at other times at the residence.
Reed Tujo
KINGSPORT, Tenn. - Reed Tujo, age 36, of 4932 Druid Hills Court, Kingsport, Tennessee, died Thursday morning, September 30, 1999, in Mint Hill, North Carolina.
Mr. Tujo was born in Buloxi, Mississippi on April 3, 1963, a son of Phillip Tujo and Mary Gentry Berg, both of whom survive.
Mr. Tujo had spent his early life in Chicago, Illinois, and Danville. He later traveled to various cities with his job at Rust Construction Company where he was a supervisor. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Kingsport, Tennessee.
Survivors in addition to his father of Chicago, Illinois and his mother of Danville, include one sister: Lori Horsley of Danville, and two brothers: Larry Perry of Cleveland, North Carolina, and Joe Perry of Houston, Texas, and his fiancee: Pam Anderson of Kingsport, Tennessee.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Highland Burial Park by the Rev. Dr. Doug Barber. The family will receive friends at Swicegood Funeral Home on Sunday evening from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m., and at other times at the residence of his mother, Mary Berg, at 184 Howerton Bottom Road, Lot 19.
Missouri Vaden
BLAIRS, Va. - Missouri Coleman Vaden, 81, of 541 Pritchett Lane, died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 1999, at Vencor Hospital in Greensboro, N.C.
Born Sept. 6, 1918, in Halifax County, she was the daughter of Lewis Coleman and Virginia Barksdale Coleman.
She was married
to Lawrence Vaden, who survives.
She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include one daughter, Clara Medley of Queens Village, N.Y.; two sons, Lawrence Vaden Jr., of Blairs, Willard McLaughlin of Compton, Ca.; and one sister, Annie C. McLaughlin of Saline, Kan.A viewing will be held Saturday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Estelle Wilson
DANVILLE, Va. - Estelle Dalton Wilson, 94, of 106 Cathy Drive, died Friday, Oct. 1, 1999, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home for eight months of several years of declining health. Born Sept. 10, 1905, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Anslum Tazwell Dalton and Havanna Jane Shelton Dalton.
She lived most of her life in Danville and retired from Dan River Inc. 4-A Weave, Schoolfield Division after 35 years of service. She was a member of the Bannister Spring Primitive Baptist Church and a member of Dan River Retiree Club.
Survivors include one son, Aaron R. Wilson of 29 Psalms, Calif.; one daughter, Audrey W. Newman of Danville; four sisters, Irma D. Dodson, Gladys D. Giles, Phylis D. Mills and Gloria D. Gosney, all of Danville; 7 granchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by one son, Adrian T. Wilson and three brothers, Acie L. Dalton, James Pyrtle Dalton and Marvin B. Dalton; and three sisters, Magdaline D. Mills, Ruth Dalton and Hazel Dalton.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Elder Melvin Shelton, Elder H.P. Somers and Elder Troy Simpson officiating. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.

Louise Shelton Bennett
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Louise Shelton Bennett, 77, died Saturday at Halifax Regional Hospital.
She was born Oct. 14, 1921, the daughter of J.W. Shelton and Izma Roach Shelton
She was married
to William Weldon Bennett Sr., who predeceased her.
Bennett was a member of First Baptist Church, where she was an active member of the choir for many years. She was retired from the Halifax County Department of Social Services.
Survivors include: two daughters, Joanne B. Carter and Marilyn B. Mitchell, both of Halifax; a son, Del. W.W. Ted Bennett of Halifax; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday October 4, 1999 at First Baptist Church of South Boston, with the Rev. Bob Fox officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ted Bennett in Halifax.

Lucille Flowers
DANVILLE, Va. - Lucille Flowers, 90, of 398 Hawthorne Drive, died Friday, Oct. 1 at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born July 8, 1909 in Poquoson, she was a daughter of Blanche and Sydney Moore.
Mrs. Flowers was married
in April of 1933 to Bert Flowers, who predeceased her on Aug. 27, 1991.
She was educated at Eastman School of Business in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. Prior to moving to Danville, Mrs. Flowers was employed as secretary to the president of the Newport News Shipbuilding Co. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Danville Golf Club and the Danville Museum of Fine Arts and History. Mrs. Flowers was a member of First Baptist Church since 1936.
She is survived by three daughters, Mary Ceile Ogburn and her husband, Sam, of Winston Salem, N.C.; Ellen Bridgers and her husband, Odell, of Wilmington, N.C. and Carolyn F. Wilson and her husband, Charles, of Lake Bluff, Ill.; three grandchildren, Sam Ogburn Jr. and his wife, Jane, Elizabeth Ogburn Swinson and her husband, Mack, of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Suzanne Wilson of Nashville, Tenn.; and four great-grandchildren, Sam Ogburn III, Jack Ogburn, Mary Ogburn Swinson and Michael Swinson of Winston-Salem, N.C.
A funeral service will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. Joey Faucette. Internment will follow at Mountain View cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence at 398 Hawthorne Drive.

Roy High
DANVILLE, Va. - Roy Hurt High, 67, of 600 Main St., died Friday morning, Oct. 1, 1999, at the VA Veterans Care Center, Roanoke.
Born April 11, 1932, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of George W. High Sr. and Mary Amos High.
He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, receiving the Korean Servicing Medal with four stars, and four major battle campaigns, and also the Purple Heart, good conduct medal, and Asian medals and ribbons. He received the presidential unit citation action beyond the call of duty, and the Republic of Korea Presidential Citation for action in Korea. He was a hotel clerk and of the Baptist faith. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War. He made his home in Danville for the past 10 years spending most of his life in Pennsylvania.
Survivors include one son, Roy High Jr., of Arizona; three daughters, Bridgett Phelps of Thomasville, N.C., Debra Scott and Annette Ehoff, both of Philadelphia; two brothers, Elvin High of Salt Lake City, and George High Jr. of Danville; two sisters, Mary Weigher of Christiana, Pa., and Linda Bowman of Danville; and 10 grandchildren.
A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Tim Nuckles and the Rev. Ray Wiggs officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Memorial Post No. 325 Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends at the residence of his sister, Linda Bowman, 753 Mt. View Drive, off Holland Road.

Christopher Myers
GRETNA, Va. - Christopher Myers, 82, of 1539 N. Summerset Road, died Friday, October 1, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born July 3, 1917 in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of the late Luther and Fannie Stone Myers. He was the widower of the late Harriett Myers and was predeceased by three brothers - Newton, Joel and Francis Myers, and by three sisters - Louise M. Berger, Judie M. Howard and Effie M. Ford.
Prior to his retirement, he worked at Klopman Mills and was a member of Union Missionary Baptist Church, where he served on the board of deacons.
Survivors include: six sons, Rev. Mac Arthur Myers of Gretna, Ramsey Myers of Atlanta, Otha Myers of Fairfax, Major Myers of Brooklyn, N.Y., Bobby Myers of Denver and Wilfred Myers of Greensboro, N.C.; three daughters, Delora Rhinehart of Staton Island, N.Y.; Laura Auld of White Plains, N.Y. and Alice Lazado of New Haven, Conn.; two brothers, Henry and Clyde Myers, both of Gretna; two sisters, Sallie Hicks of Lynchburg and Tossie Tyree of Chicago; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Myers of Gretna; 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Walter Coals at 1 p.m. Monday, October 4, 1999, at the chapel of Miller Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Piney Grove Baptist Church cemetery.

Stewart Neal
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Stewart W. Neal, 81, of Huntsville, Ala., died Wednesday, September 29, 1999 in Phoenix, Ariz.
Born January 13,1918 in Danville, he was the son of Walter Neal and Ida May Compton Neal.
He was married
to Ruby Overby Neal who died June 30, 1988.
He had been a resident of Huntsville, Ala. since 1985. He was active in the Moose and Eagles organizations. He participated on several bowling leagues and enjoyed ballroom dancing.
He is survived by two sons, Thomas W. Neal of Huntsville, Ala. and James S. Neal of Navarre, Fla.; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, October 4, 1999 from Laughlin Funeral Home in Huntsville, Ala. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 5, 1999. from Danville Memorial Garden.

Ernest Lee "Sonny" Shelton
DANVILLE, Va. - Ernest Lee "Sonny" Shelton, 71, of 414 Princeton Road, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 1999, at his residence after a one-year decline in health.
Born Nov. 18, 1927, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Geneva Campbell Shelton and Andrew Lee Shelton.
He lived most of his life in the county, and worked as self-employed realtor. He also was a well-known farmer in his early life. He was a member of Stokesland United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Pansy Shelton Murphy of Pelham, N.C., and Wanda Shelton Shelton of Dry Fork, Va.; three sons, Ernest Wayne Shelton of Pelham, N.C., Donald Ray Shelton and Danny Lee Shelton, both of Danville; one sister, Elizabeth Shelton Walker of Danville; and eight grandchildren.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gilmer Setliff officiating. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
