Harry Scott
TROUTVILLE, Va. - Harry Thomas Scott, 75, died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 1999.
Born in Caswell County, N.C., he was the son of John T. Scott and Zula W. Scott.
He was married
48 years to Evelyn Roop Scott, who survives.
He was a veteran of World War II and served as United States Navy Ship Fitter First Class.
He graduated in 1950, from Virginia Tech as a civil engineer.
He lived in Indiana for 40 years and moved to Virginia in 1992, upon retirement.
In addition to his wife, survivors include four sisters, Irma White of Pelham, N.C., Ruth Ingram of Danville, Helen Hardie of Graham, N.C., and Mildred Robertson of Burlington, N.C.; one brother, Robert Scott of Elon College, N.C. He was predeceased by two brothers, Dwight Scott and Irvin Scott.
A funeral will be 1 p.m. Friday at Oakey's Vinton Chapel with the Rev. John S. Dooley, the Rev. Aubrey Dooley and the Rev. Tom Hurt officiating.
Burial will be in Mount View cemetery.
The family will receive friends 2-4 p.m., and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home chapel.
Ruth Austin
DANVILLE, Va. - Ruth Burton Austin, 76, of Riverside Health Care Center, died Thursday afternoon, Oct. 14, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Dec. 24, 1922, in Danville, she was the daughter of Genne Colbert Burton and Corinna Lumpkin Burton.
She was married
to Davis James Austin, who predeceased her.
She worked at Danville Dairy as a production worker for a number of years, and later as a housewife. She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Dennis J. Austin and David L. Austin, both of Danville; two sisters, Lyndell Saunders and Marie Crain, both of Reno, Nev.; and three grandchildren.
She was predeceased by one brother, Van Burton.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Barker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jack Robertson officating. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday at Barker Funeral Home and at other times at the son's residence, 902, Wyllie Ave.
Doris Biles
DANVILLE, Va. - Doris Mayberry Biles, 78, of 246 Northmont Blvd., died suddenly, Thursday, Oct. 14, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center for three weeks.
Born April 7, 1921, in Danville, he was the son of Roy Mayberry and Lena Kessler Mayberry.
She married
March 13, 1942, to David A. Biles, who survives.
She lived all of her life in Danville where he was a homemaker. She was an active member of Grace Design United Methodist Church where she served on the Board Staff Parish Relations Board.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include one daughter, Patricia B. Soyars of Richmond; one granddaughter, Sherri S. Cunningham of Farmville; one grandson, Todd Soyars of New York,; one great-granddaughter, Hayley G. Cunningham; and one great-grandson Taylor Cunningham.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Grace Design United Methodist Church with the Rev. Scott Holcomb McLain officiating. Burial will be in Leemont cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday at Wrenn Yeatts Westover Chapel and at other times at the residence.
Thomas Fuller
GENEVA, Fla. - Thomas B. Fuller, 81, of West Osceola Road, died Thursday, Oct. 14, 1999, of abestosis.
He was born June 4, 1918, in Danville, Va.
He was married
to Ina Clara Fuller, who survives.
He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He moved to Central Florida in 1958, and was a member of the Salvation Army. He was a welder and a member of the American Legion Steam and Pipe Fitters Local No. 295 of Daytona Beach. He was minister for Prison Ministries for the Salvation Army and the Geneva Evergreens at the First Baptist Church of Geneva.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Thomas D. Fuller of McGee, Ark., and Steven A. Fuller of Geneva; four grandchildren and seven-great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Brisson Funeral Home Chapel with Major Bruce Williams and Pastor Don Crabtree officiating. Burial will be in Geneva cemetery.
The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Pauline Godsey
DANVILLE, Va. - Pauline Six Godsey, 62, of 343 Little Creek Road, died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 1999, at her residence.
Born Jan. 21, 1937, in Wytheville, she was the daughter of Sprinkle Six and Lizzie Lane Six.
She was married
Dec. 2, 1966, to Edward Lee Godsey, who survives.
She was of the Baptist faith and lived most of her life in Wytheville before moving to Danville in 1960. She was employed as housekeeping supervisor for Howard Johnson.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include one son, Edward Lee Godsey, Jr. of Danville; three daughters, Lisa Fitzpatrick of Danville, Sherry Turner of Bachelor's Hall and Melissa Carroll of Ringgold; two half-sisters, Glenda Tibbs of Wytheville and Patty Dillard of Boston; eight grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a son, Michael Nelson, and a daughter, Angel Godsey.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Lee VonEime and the Rev. Tommy London officiating. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.

Roosevelt Harper
DANVILLE, Va. - Roosevelt "Jack" Harper, 67, of 168 Godfry Street, died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 1999, in Pittsylvania County.
Born Sept. 18, 1932, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Samuel Harper and Leary Millner Harper.
He was married
to Barbara Tarpley Harper, who survives him.
He was a driver for Dan Valley Foods and a member of Tarpley's Chapel Baptist Church and American Legion Post #29.
In addition to the wife of the residence, he is survived by his mother, Leary M. Harper of Danville; one son, Ricardo L. Harper of Tazwell; one brother, Samuel L. Thornton of Pittsburgh; two sisters, Dorthy H. Terry of Chatham and Ola Mae Hood of Danville; one granddaughter, Aaliyah Harper of Danville and his father-in-law William E. Tarpley.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Tarpley's Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert L. Divens Jr. officiating. Interment
will follow in the church cemetery.
There will be a viewing at Cunningham & Hughes Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday. The family will be in the residence, 168 Godfrey St.
Frankie Hunt Sr.
DANVILLE, Va. - Frank "Frankie" Howard Hunt Sr., 65, of 1023 Halifax Road, died Tuesday evening, Oct. 12, 1999, at Duke University Medical Center.
Born Feb. 10, 1934, in Danville, he was the son of Walter Mott Hunt and Birdie Hunt Wade.
He was married
Aug. 16, 1961, to Juanita Beverly Hunt, who survive.
He was owner-operator of Hunt's Grocery in Glenwood Community until his retirement. He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War, retiring after 20 years of service. He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Glenwood. He was also a member of American Legion Memorial Post No. 325.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include one son, Frank H. Hunt Jr. of Callands; one daughter, Sylvia H. Meade of Danville; two brothers, James F. Hunt and W.L. Wade, both of Danville; and four grandchildren.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Harold Hunt and Thomas Hunt.
A funeral was 2 p.m. Friday at Barker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bob Davis officiating. Interment
was in Highland Burial Park with military honors conducted by the American Legion Post No. 1097 Honor Guard.

Thomas Hutcherson Jr.
DANVILLE, Va. - Thomas Moses Hutcherson Jr., 70, of 500 Long Circle, (off 58 West, past Brosville School), died suddenly Thursday, Oct. 14, 1999, after spending one day at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born July 29, 1929, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Thomas Moses Hutcherson Sr. and Pearl Cabler Hutcherson.
He married
Oct. 12, 1949, to Lorraine Denny Hutcherson, who survives.
He lived all of his life in Danville and Pittsylvania County. He was employed by Dan River Inc. as supervisor for 41 years until he joined C.M. Offray Ribbon Company where he worked until his retirement. He was a member of the Tabernacle.
In addition to his wife of 50 years, of the residence, survivors include one daughter, Pattie H. Hunter of Cary, N.C.; one son, Ricky Hutcheson of Cascade; two sisters, Gertrude H. Thomas and Lucille H. Johnson, both of Danville; and three grandchildren.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with the Rev. Larmarr Mooneyham and the Dr. Rev. R.J. Barber Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Highland Burial Park.

Andrew Moss
DANVILLE, Va. - Andrew Moss, 88, of 164 Kimberly Ave, died Monday, Oct. 11, 1999, at Veterans Administration Medical Center, Durham, N.C.
Born May 24, 1911, in Lincolnton, Ga., he was the son of Orange Moss and Della Moss.
He was married
to Lois W. Moss, who survives.
He was a veteran of World War II. He was wounded in action, and he retired from service.
In addition to his wife of Danville, survivors include four daughters, Angeline Franklin of South Bend, Ind., Eula Mae Thompson of Atlanta, Roberta Williams of Orlando, Fla. and Betty Jean Kennedy of South Carolina; two stepdaughters, Barbara Powell of Denver and Marie Elizabeth Coltrane of Danville; 22 grandchildren and 49 great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Apostolic Faith Church of Ringgold with the Suffragan Bishop W.A. Watkins officiating. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.

J.T. Newby
DANVILLE, Va. - James Thomas "J.T." Newby Jr., 36, of 3285 R & L Smith Drive, died suddenly, Thursday, Oct. 14, 1999, at his residence.
Born Aug. 31, 1962, in Amelia, he was the son of the late James Thomas Newby Sr. and Margie Lucille Williams Newby Satterfield, who survives.
He lived most of his life in Pittsylvania County where he worked as a local farm hand and painter. He attended New Assembly Baptist Church in Ringgold.
In addition to his mother of the residence, survivors include one brother, Alfred F. Williams of the residence; three sisters, Frances Newby of the residence, Gail N. McKinsey of Nashville, Tenn. and Brenda N. Wright of Gumtree; one stepsister, Kathy Ann Satterfield of Sutherlin.
A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Union Methodist Church cemetery with the Rev. Stan Lawton officiating.
The family will receive friends at the residence of Eva N. Hodnett, 3684 Mount Tabor Road, Keeling.

Rose Reynolds
DANVILLE, Va. - Rose Inman Reynolds, 93, formerly of 231 South Ridge St., Heritage Towers, died Thursday, Oct. 14, 1999, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home of declining health since April 1990. She previously resided at Blue Ridge Nursing Home, Martinsville.
Born July 26, 1906, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of the late James C. Inman and Ada Harvey Inman.
She was married
to William Edgar Reynolds, who predeceased April 30, 1936.
She spent most of her life in Vance community of Pittsylvania County. She retired in July 1971, from Dan River Inc. She was a member of West End Christian Church, the Dan River Retired Employees Club and Rebekah Lodge.
Survivors include two sons, William E. Reynolds and Samuel H. "Jack" Reynolds, both of Danville; one daughter, Dorothy R. Jackson of Virginia Beach; seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gilbert Hawks officiating. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
