Charlie Robertson
DANVILLE, Va. - Charlie Robertson, 89, of 127 Wilkerson Road, Apt. D., died Thursday, Oct. 14, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born August 16, 1910, in Henry County, he was the son of the late James Robertson and Caroline Robertson.
He married
Joanna Morrison, who predeceased him.
He was employed at American Furniture Company in Martinsville for many years prior to his retirement.
Survivors include four daughters, Alma Washington of Martinsville, Odessa Martin of Cascade, Carmenta Palmer and Roventa Smith, both of Hampton; seven sons, John Lawrence Roberson of Harrisburg, Pa., Edward Washington of Cascade, Marvin Slade and Jerry Washington, both of Axton, Karl Wayne Roberson of Fayetteville, N.C., Kermit Roberson and Kenneth Roberson, both of Hampton, and numerous grandchildren.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Holy Tabernacle of Jesus Christ on Industrial Avenue with Apostle Clara Gerald officiating. Interment
will be in Martin Family cemetery, State Route 622, Cascade.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Elisha Rowland
RINGGOLD, Va. - Elisha Hal Rowland, 71, of 421 Yeatts Farm Road, died Thursday, Oct. 14, 1999, at 104 Lynch St. after several years of declining health.
Born Jan. 9, 1928, in Cherokee County, N.C., he was the son of Mathey Rowland and Lavesta Beaver Rowland. He was married
to Charlotte Mae Curtis Rowland, who predeceased him July 16, 1973.
He was of the Baptist faith and for the past several years resided in the Danville area.
He was a veteran of the United States Army.
Survivors include two daughters, Rita "Susie" Holt of Ringgold, Kathy Motley of Danville; three sons, Ronnie Rowland of Ringgold, Danny Rowland and Larry Rowland, both of Danville; three brothers, Clinton Rowland and Alvin Rowland, both of Marble, N.C., and Robert Rowland of Winder, Ga.; two sisters, Mary R. Wilson of Roxboro, N.C., and Betty R. Coker of Marble, N.C.; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Floral Hill Memory Gardens with military honors conducted by the American Legion Post No. 1097 Honor Guard. The Rev. Lamarr Mooneyham will be officiating.

Queen Wells
DANVILLE, Va. - Queen Mae Wells, 66, of 1101 W. Paxton St., died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 20, 1933, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of the late William Matthew Womack and the late Maggie Jones Fitzgerald.
She was married
to Marcus Wells, who survives.
She was employed 21 years in housekeeping department of Roman Eagle Nursing Home.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include three sons, Kenneth Fitzgerald Sr. and Charles C. Fitzgerald, both of Danville, Perlie Fitzgerald of Dry Fork; one sister, Annie Davis of Danville; two brothers, George Womack and Reid Womack both of Danville; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Fisher and Watkins Funeral Chapel with the Pastor Catherine Adams officiating. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Vernon Wyatt
RICHMOND, Va. - Harry Vernon Wyatt Jr., 60, of 1839 Random Winds Court, died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 1999.
Born March 13, 1939, in Danville, he was the son of Edith Harris Wyatt, who survives, and Harry Vernon Wyatt Sr. He was married
to Sue Wyatt, who survives.
He was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard from 1960-1964. He was employed at Federal Reserve Bank in Richmond. He was a member of College Park Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife of the residence and mother of Danville, survivors include one daughter, Melissa Lynch of Richmond; one sister, Anita J. Wyatt of Danville; and two grandchildren.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Townes Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Jim Hewitt officiating. Burial will be in Mountain View cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday night at Townes Funeral Home and from 7-8:30 p.m. at his mother and sister's residence, 200 Brightwell Court, Danville.
Ruth Austin
DANVILLE, Va. - Ruth Burton Austin, 76, of Riverside Health Care Center, died Thursday, Oct. 14, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Dec. 24, 1922, in Danville, she was the daughter of Genne Colbert Burton and Corinna Lumpkin Burton.
She was married
to Davis James Austin, who predeceased her.
She worked at Danville Dairy as a production worker for a number of years, and later as a housewife. She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Dennis J. Austin and David L. Austin, both of Danville; two sisters, Lyndell Saunders and Marie Crain, both of Reno, Nev.; and three grandchildren.
She was predeceased by one brother, Van Burton.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Barker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jack Robertson officating. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.

Doris Biles
DANVILLE, Va. - Doris Mayberry Biles, 78, of 246 Northmont Blvd., died suddenly, Thursday, Oct. 14, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center for three weeks.
Born April 7, 1921, in Danville, she was the daughter of Roy Mayberry and Lena Kessler Mayberry.
She married
March 13, 1942, to David A. Biles, who survives.
She lived all of her life in Danville where he was a homemaker. She was an active member of Grace Design United Methodist Church where she served on the Board Staff Parish Relations Board.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include one daughter, Patricia B. Soyars of Richmond; one granddaughter, Sherri S. Cunningham of Farmville; one grandson, Todd Soyars of New York,; one great-granddaughter, Hayley G. Cunningham; and one great-grandson Taylor Cunningham.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Grace Design United Methodist Church with the Rev. Scott Holcomb McLain officiating. Burial will be in Leemont cemetery.

William Dillon
DANVILLE, Va. - William Dillon, 93, of 105 Glen Oak Drive, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 1999, at 12:50 a.m. at Danville Regional Medical Center after five years of declining health and one week in the hospital.
Born May 10, 1906, in Franklin County, he was the son of Thomas Dillon and Jennie Newman Dillon.
Mr. Dillon was a member of Emmanuel Church of the Brethren, Poquoson Tribe No. 124 Improved Order of Redmen and the Odd Fellows. He lived for the past 73 years in Danville where he worked for Dan River Inc. for 43 years, retiring at age 62. He was the last member of his family's generation.
He was married
to Stella Shelton Dillon, who died on Dec. 26, 1981.
Survivors include one daughter, Frances Dillon Taylor and son-in-law Sager Taylor of Danville, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Oct. 18, at 2 p.m. at Danville Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with the Rev. Leonard Martin officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday, Oct. 17, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Swicegood Funeral Home, and at other times at his daughter's residence, 230 Kemper Road.
Thomas Hutcherson Jr.
DANVILLE, Va. - Thomas Moses Hutcherson Jr., 70, of 500 Long Circle, (off 58 West, past Brosville School), died suddenly Thursday, Oct. 14, 1999, after spending one day at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born July 29, 1929, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Thomas Moses Hutcherson Sr. and Pearl Cabler Hutcherson.
He married
Oct. 12, 1949, to Lorraine Denny Hutcherson, who survives.
He lived all of his life in Danville and Pittsylvania County. He was employed by Dan River Inc. as supervisor for 41 years until he joined C.M. Offray Ribbon Company where he worked until his retirement. He was a member of the Tabernacle.
In addition to his wife of 50 years, of the residence, survivors include one daughter, Patti H. Hunter of Cary, N.C.; one son, Ricky Hutcherson of Cascade; two sisters, Gertrude H. Thomas and Lucille H. Johnson, both of Danville; and three grandchildren.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with the Rev. Lamarr Mooneyham and the Dr. Rev. R.J. Barber Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Highland Burial Park.

Minnie Moore
CHATHAM, Va. - Minnie Hedrick Moore, 85, of 1672 Emory Road, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born April 17, 1914, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of James and Sallie Worley Hedrick. She was married
to the late Otey Lee Moore. She was also predeceased by a son, Gene Harvey Moore; a grandson, Gregory Thomas Moore; and a brother, Tom Hedrick. Mrs. Moore was a member of Greenbay Christian Church and a homemaker.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Randall Lee and June Moore of Rustburg and Morris Wayne and Margaret Moore of Gretna; one sister, Agnes H. Pearson of Chatham; two grandchildren, Penny Lee Moore and Adam Wayne Moore, both of Gretna; four step-grandchildren, Tammy Hurt of Madison Heights, Tommy Tyree and Julie Dyke, both of Forest, Keith Morton of Rustburg, and six step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 18, 1999, at Colbert-Moran Chapel by the Rev. Rudy A. Hearn and Rev. J.D. Hunt III. Interment
will follow in Gretna Burial Park.

Rose Reynolds
DANVILLE, Va. - Rose Inman Reynolds, 93, formerly of 231 South Ridge St., Heritage Towers, died Thursday, Oct. 14, 1999, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home of declining health since April 1990. She previously resided at Blue Ridge Nursing Home, Martinsville.
Born July 26, 1906, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of the late James C. Inman and Ada Harvey Inman.
She was married
to William Edgar Reynolds, who predeceased April 30, 1936.
She spent most of her life in Vance community of Pittsylvania County. She retired in July 1971, from Dan River Inc. She was a member of West End Christian Church, the Dan River Retired Employees Club and Rebekah Lodge.
Survivors include two sons, William E. Reynolds and Samuel H. "Jack" Reynolds, both of Danville; one daughter, Dorothy R. Jackson of Virginia Beach; seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gilbert Hawks officiating. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the residence of her son, William E. Reynolds, 468 Stony Mill Road.
Henry Whittle Jr.
DANVILLE, Va. - Henry Drewry Whittle Jr., of 501 Linden Place, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 1999, at his residence.
He was born in Martinsville on April 20, 1924, a son of Henry Drewry Whittle and Flora Redd Whittle. He was married
on Oct. 1, 1949, to the former Denise Harte, who survives.
He attended Virginia Military Institute and graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Navy.
His entire working career was spent in the plywood industry, having founded Whittle Plywood Corp. in 1965, with plants in Virginia and Arkansas.
He was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the German Club and the Danville Golf Club. He served on the local board of First Citizens Bank.
In addition to his wife of the home, he is survived by a daughter, Blaise Whittle of Wintergreen; five sons, H. Drew Whittle III, Harte J. Whittle, Carter F. Whittle, Murray W. Whittle and Madison J.R. Whittle, all of Danville; one sister, Ruth Whittle Cary of Maine, and five grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, John Whittle.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church by Father David McGuire. Entombment will be in the Danville Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
A Christian Wake Service will be held Sunday at 7 p.m. at Townes Memorial Chapel by Father David McGuire. The family will receive friends following the service until 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family will also receive friends at the residence.
