Clarence Mansfield
DANVILLE, Va. - Clarence Lee Mansfield, 96, formerly of 240 Clement Ave., died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 1999, at Piney Forest Health Care Center.
Born Aug. 28, 1903, in Halifax, he was the son of Abner Nuble Mansfield and Maggie Rives Mansfield.
He lived in New York City for 36 years and worked as a pressman for H.W. Wilson Publishing Co. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include three sisters, Curtis Scruggs of Newport News, Mary Meadors of Hinesville, Ga., and Maggie Fox of Front Royal.
He was predeceased by one brother, Richard Mansfield; and two sisters, Nettie Mansfield and Gladys M. Williams.
A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Leemont cemetery with the Rev. Claude Bailey officiating.
The family will receive friends at the residence of W.D. Mansfield, 325 Sandy River Drive.
Barker Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements.
John McKinney
SUTHERLIN, Va. - John Dodson McKinney, 83, of 545 E. Hightower Road, died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center after a one-week stay and several months of declining health.
Born Sept. 20, 1916, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Willie Lee McKinney and Nannie Walker McKinney.
He was married
Nov. 28, 1949, to Victoria Lynch McKinney, who predeceased him Aug. 25, 1999.
He lived most of his life in Pittsylvania County where he was a retired farmer. He worked for Ford Dealership in South Hill, for a number of years as a mechanic. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include four sons, Willie E. McKinney of Virgilina, Jerry "Tex" McKinney of Franklin, Glenn T. McKinney of Sutherlin, and John Wayne McKinney of Suffock; three daughters, Mary Jane Murray of Virgilina, Nancy Traylor of Matocac, and Peggy Moss of Halifax.
He was the last survivor of his immediate family.
The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with interment at Leemont cemetery with military honors conducted by American Legion Post 1097 Honor Guard.
Phyllis Peek
RINGGOLD, Va. - Phyllis Carole Shelton Peek, 35, of 2908 Ringgold Depot Road, died Wednesday, Oct. 27, 1999, at Duke Medical Center, Durham, N.C., after a 10-day stay and six months of declining health.
Born Oct. 24, 1964, in Danville she was the daughter of Phil Shelton and Carol Shelton Tilley, both survive. She was the stepdaughter of William J. "Bill" Tilley, who also survives.
She married
Thomas "Tommy" Vaden Peek Jr., Oct. 27, 1984, who survives.
She lived her life in the Danville and Pittsylvania County area where she was a member of The Tabernacle and church choir. She was a homemaker.
In addition to her mother and stepfather of Danville, and husband of the residence, survivors include three daughters, Brittany Nicole Peek, Lindsay Carole Peek and Ashley Sue Peek, all of the residence; four sisters, Donna S. Stegall of Pelham, N.C., Phyllis Gail S. Scarce, Sarah Tilley Hall and Amanda Diane Tilley, all of Danville; one brother, Payton Christopher Shelton of Danville.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at The Tabernacle with the Rev. Lamarr Mooneyham officiating. Burial will be in Sandy Creek Baptist Church cemetery, Sutherlin.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel and at other times at the residence.
Jack A. Scott
NORFOLK, Va. - Jack A. Scott, of the 1500 block of Minnesota Ave., Norfolk, Virginia went peacefully to be with his Lord, October 27, 1999.
He was born March 1, 1929, in Danville, Virginia. He had resided in Norfolk for the past 45 years.
Mr. Scott retired as a detective with the Norfolk Police Department and retired from Crestar Bank. He was presently working with security at the Federal Court in Norfolk. He was a former member of the Grand Lodge A.F. and A.M. of VA.
His memories will be cherished by his daughter, Traci Lynn Scott Kent of Austin, TX; Three grandchildren, Steven Russell, Charles Russell, and Elizabeth Russell, all of New Castle, DE; Five sisters, Mrs. Margie Walsh of Danville, VA, Mrs. Leona Shorter of Virginia Beach, Mrs. Virginia Dailey of Chesapeake, Mrs. Nancy Atkins and Mrs. Anne Archibald both of Portsmouth and a number of nieces and nephews and other family members and friends that loved and will miss him.
Mr. Scott was predeceased by his daughter, Pearl (Polly) Scott Russell, a sister Helen Christakos, and brothers James T. Scott and Robert L. Scott.
A funeral service will be held Friday, October 29, 1999, at 12 noon at Smith & Williams Funeral Home-Norfolk Chapel.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Following the funeral services Mr. Scott will be transported to Swicegood Funeral Home in Danville, VA.
The family will receive friends at Swicegood Funeral Home Saturday 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. A funeral service will follow on Sunday, October 31, at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home with burial in Mountain View cemetery.
At other times the family will be at the residence of his sister, Margie Walsh, 116 Ruskin Street, Danville, Va.
Cash Stanley Jr.
MACON, Ga. - Cash M. Stanley Jr., 88, former resident of Danville, died Wednesday, Oct. 27, 1999, at Macon Northside Hospital.
Born Jan. 2, 1911, in Birmingham, Ala., he was the son of the late Cassius Miller Stanley and Martha Greet Stanley.
He married
Paula Terrell Stanley, who survives.
He lived in Danville from 1958 - 1965 where he was employed at Dan River Inc. He was a 1933 graduate of Auburn University and was a retired printing and textile engineer. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II, served in the Battle of the Bulge under General George Patton. He was also a retired Major from the United States Army Reserves. He was a member of St. Simons on the Sound Episcopal Church, Fort Walton Beach, Fla.
In addition to his wife of Macon, survivors include three sons, Cash M. Stanely III, M.D., and Terrell Stanely, both of Macon and David Stanley of Marietta; one sister, Louie Ashley of Montgomery, Ala; and five grandchildren.
A funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday, at Chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home, Hoganville, with the Rev. Mike Stephens officiating. Burial will be in Greenville cemetery.
Donny Tucker
DANVILLE, Va. - Donald Wayne Tucker Jr., 31, of 112 Oak Drive, died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 1999, at Duke Medical Center for 10 days of injuries sustained in a motocycle accident.
Born Dec. 28, 1967, in Danville, he was the son of Donald Wayne Tucker Sr. and Louise Zufall Tucker, who survive.
He was married
Dec. 24, 1997, to Cindy Compton Tucker, who survives.
He lived his life in the Danville area where he was employed for 10 years with Bacon Enterprises as maintenance supervisor. He was a member of Christians United Baptist Church in Danville.
In addition to his parents of Danville, and wife of the residence, survivors include one son, Harley David Tucker of the residence; two sisters, Wendy T. Mazza and Amy Tucker, both of Danville; paternal grandfather, Henry Wilson of Danville.
He was predeceased by his paternal grandmother, Mary Wilson; and maternal grandparents, George Zufall and Mary Zufall.
A funeral will be 4 p.m. Friday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. Larry Hill officiating. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Pearl Wyatt
DANVILLE, Va. - Pearl Edwards Wyatt, died Thursday, Oct. 28, 1999, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home.
Born Oct. 30, 1911, in the Climax Community of Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Calliehill Edwards and Janie Wright Edwards.
She married
J. Bernard Wyatt Sr., who predeceased her June 14, 1969.
She was a graduate of Farmville State Teachers College. She was a school teacher for many years prior to becoming director of cafeterias for the Danville Public School System, retiring in 1973. She was a dietician for the Danville City Prison Farm for many years. She was a charter member of West Main Baptist Church, and was an active member of Pilot Club, as well as other civic organizations.
Survivors by one granddaughter, Laura Layne Wyatt of Danville; and one sister, Edith Parrish of Callands.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Townes Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bruce Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Liberty Baptist Church cemetery, Route 41.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and at other times at the residence of her daughter-in-law, Gayle Wyatt, 311 Oakwood Circle.
Ballard Yeatts
DANVILLE, Va. - Ballard Oscar Yeatts, 76, of 683 Glendale Ave., died Thursday, Oct. 28, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center after a one-day stay and several years of declining health.
Born July 3, 1923, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of William Henry Yeatts and Virgie Mae Davis Yeatts.
He married
Audrey Mae Marshall Yeatts, June 1956, who survive.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy served during World War II. He lived his life in the Danville and Pittsylvania County area and was employed with the Yellow Cab Co. retiring after 35 years of service. He was of the Baptist faith and was a member of the White Oak Mountain Hunting Club.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include four sons, Wayne Yeatts and Benny Yeatts, both of Blairs, Danny Yeatts and Ronnie Yeatts, both of Danville; two daughters, Carolyn Y. Wilson and Marilyn Y. Regan, both of Ringgold; one sister, Anna Y. Joyce of Burlington, N.C.; 20 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Bill Soyars officiating.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel and at other times at the residence.
Kevin Dalton
CHATHAM, Va. - Kevin Scott Dalton, 28, of 200 Dry Bridge Rd, died Saturday, Oct. 30, 1999.
Born February 16, 1971, in Danville, he is survived by his wife Elizabeth Barbour Dalton of the residence.
Other survivors include his parents, Kenneth Edward Dalton and Linda Gibson Dalton of 4096 Deer View Road in Gretna; paternal grandmother, Ivalee Dalton of Gretna; and maternal grandmother Alice Gibson of Gretna.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, Nov. 2, 1999 at 2 p.m. in the Scott Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Thomas Boggs officiating.
The family will receive friends at the residence of his mother and father.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Gretna Rescue Squad.
Earnest Hilton Sr.
CHATHAM, Va. - Earnest Leroy Hilton Sr., 55, of 4288 Irish Road died 9:50 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 28, 1999, in Danville Regional Medical Center after three years of declining health.
Born March 3, 1944, in Giles County, he was the son of Earnest Hilton and Hazel Sanders Hilton.
He was married
to Lavonia Martin Hilton, who died May 31, 1995.
He lived in the Danville area for a number of years, and lived in the Dry Fork community for the past seven years. He worked at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. for 35 years being a supervisor for 30 years until his health declined and he went on disability in 1996. He was a member of the Pittsylvania County Hunting Club.
Survivors include two daughters, Lorraine Hilton Hughes of Danville and Rosetta Hilton McGhee of Blairs; one son, Earnest Leroy Hilton Jr. of Keeling; three sisters, Mary Arabelle Goodwin of Christiansburg, Ruth Naomi Carbaugh of Narrows and Betty Ann Bremer of Pembrook; one brother, James C. Hilton of Danville; four grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Steven Martin and the Rev. Paul M. Ray officiating. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.

Katherine Brown
DANVILLE, Va. - Katherine Ferguson Brown, 88, of 421 Bradley Rd. died Friday, Oct. 29, 1999 in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born April 5, 1911 in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Nathaniel Brown and Belle Conway Brown.
She was married
to John Brown who predeceased her.
She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church Mothers Club, and the Julia Beck Missionary Circle. She was retired from R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company.
A funeral will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Thomas D. Johnson officiating.
Burial will be in the Bethel Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 1 to 8 p.m. at L. H. Brooks & Bro. Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
