DANVILLE, Va. - Alice Cocke Turner, 90, died Saturday, Oct. 30, 1999, at Roman Eagle Nursing Home.
Born March 15, 1909 in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Winburn Cocke and Helen Martha Owen Cocke.
She was a member of Mosley Memorial United Methodist Church. She was a retired registered nurse.
Survivors include two sons, Steven L. Turner of Fairfax, Va., and Dr. Jack C. Turner of Danville; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A graveside service will be held at noon Monday in Gretna Burial Park with the Rev. George Neas officiating. A memorial service will follow at 3:30 p.m. at Mosley Memorial United Methodist Church.
The family will receive friends at the residence of her son, Dr. Jack C. Turner, at 425 Hawthorne Dr. in Danville.

Kevin Dalton
CHATHAM, Va. - Kevin Scott Dalton, 28, of 200 Dry Bridge Rd, died Saturday, Oct. 30, 1999.
Mr. Dalton was born February 16, 1971 in Danville. He was a graduate of Gretna High School and Virginia Tech. He worked as an assistant superintendent for the Waters Edge Golf Course.
He is survived by his wife Elizabeth Barbour Dalton of the residence. He is also survived by his parents, Kenneth Edward Dalton and Linda Gibson Dalton of 4096 Deer View Road in Gretna; paternal grandmother, Ivalee Dalton of Gretna; and maternal grandmother Alice Gibson of Gretna.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m Tuesday, Nov. 2, 1999 at the Scott Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Thomas Boggs. Interment
will be in the Carl O. Moran Memorial Gardens in Gretna.
The family will receive friends at the residence of his mother and father, Kenneth and Linda Dalton, 4096 Deer View Road, Gretna.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Gretna Rescue Squad. Scott Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Kenneth Hammock
RINGGOLD, Va. - Kenneth Duane Hammock, 35, of 444 Chaney Store Rd, died Friday, Oct. 29, 1999. at his residence.
Born March 6, 1964 in Danville, he was the son of Richard Reynolds and Shirley Falls Reynolds.
He worked as a merchandiser for Slate Retail. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include one son, Justin T. Moore of Florida; one daughter, Crystal D. Moore of Danville; and one sister, Nancy Davis of Danville.
A graveside service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Freddy Vicks officiating.
The family will receive friends at 241 Clark St., in Ringgold.

Arnold Miracle
OCEANA, W. Va. - Arnold Miracle, 82, died Friday, Oct. 29, 1999 in Beckley.
Born July 3, 1917 in Speedwell, Tenn., he was the son of Thomas Calvin Miracle and Sarah Jones Miracle.
He was married
to Bertha Miracle who predeceased him.
He was a member of the Oceana Church of God.
He was a retired coal miner, having worked for 41 years. He worked for 27 years for E. A. C. C. at Kopperston #1 as a cutting machine operator. He was a member of U.M.W.A. and District No. 17.
Survivors include two sons, Thomas "J. T." Miracle of Cincinnati, Oh., and Dale Miracle of Daytona Beach, Fla.; four daughters, Brenda Day of Dry Fork, Va., Vera "Louise" Thacker of Milford, Ohio, Deloris Walters and La Verne Gregory, both of Oceana, W. Va.; two brothers, Cecil Miracle of Detroit, Mich., and Ralph Miracle of Milford, Ohio.; four sisters, Glessie Baker of Maryville, Tenn., Mae Baker of Cincinnati, Ohio., Betty Shelton of Milford, Ohio., and Emma Warren of Hamilton, Ohio.; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by one daughter, Glenna Miracle, and four brothers.
A funeral will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Oceana Church of God with the Rev. J. L. Riffe, the Rev. Eugene Sparks and the Rev. Stollie Parsons officiating.
Burial will be in Palm Memorial Gardens in Mathany, W. Va..

Della Pruett
DANVILLE, Va. - Della Hymeria Blalock Pruett, 88, of 447 Brentwood Drive, died Sunday Oct. 31, 1999 at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Feb. 15, 1911 in Milton, N.C., Pruett was a daughter of Dr. Broadus Braxton Blalock and Annie Bertie Reed Blalock. She lived her early years in South Boston, Va., before moving to Danville. She was married
June 3, 1938 to Clyde Barksdale Pruett, who preceded her in death Aug. 5, 1994.
Pruett was a member of Shelton Memorial Presbyterian Church, a member of the Kauffman-Brydon Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of the Blue Stocking Book Club.
She was a homemaker, and she worked for Park Place Merchantile as an office manager.
Pruett is survived by her daughter Linda Pruett Wiles and her son-in-law, Ken Wiles of Ringgold, Va.; her daughter Patricia Pruett Morris and her son-in-law Clyde W. Morris of Eden, N.C.; two grandsons, Christopher Wiles of Danville and Brian Wiles of Charlottesville, Va.; and three granddaughters, Katherine Wiles Willis of South Riding, Va., Elizabeth Morris Polomski of Kernersville, N.C., and Melissa M. Morris of Grennsboro, N.C.
A graveside funeral will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Mountain View cemetery. The Rev. Paul Johnson will officiate. Interment

Jesse Henry
RINGGOLD, Va. - Jesse Henry, 69, of 445 Blankenship Road, died Friday, Oct. 29, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 21, 1930, in Halifax County, he was the son of Conway Henry and Elnora Henry.
He married
Madie Womack, who predeceased him.
He spent most of his life in Halifax County, where he was married
. He later moved to Pittsylvania County.
In addition to his great grandmother, Hester Henry of Riverside Nursing Home, survivors include two sons, Jessie Woodrow Henry and Ernest Henry, both of Danville; one daughter, Jackie Henry Maldonado of Danville; two sisters, Lettie Ann Boone of New York City and Virginia Barbour of Washington; one brother, Charlie Henry of Ringgold; and nine grandchildren.
A funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Beavers Funeral Home Chapel, 355 Holbrook St. with the Bishop Theodore Jones. Burial will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and at other times at 212 Bradley Road, Danville.
Frances Pettry
PAX, W.Va. - Frances Athylene Pettry, age 87, formerly of Pax, WV, died Oct. 31, 1999, at the Elkins Regional Convalescent Center after an extended illness.
Mrs. Pettry was born October 19, 1912, in Long Branch, WV, daughter of the late Biddle and Pearl Lively.
She was a homemaker and helped her husband in his business in Pax, WV. She was a member of the Long Branch United Methodist Church.
She was a devoted mother and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband Alfred Winifred Pettry on December 13, 1998.
Surviving are four children, Frances Dee Clark, Elkins, WV, Nancy Marie Wilson, Danville, VA, Robert Lee Pettry, Big Stone Gap, VA and James Winifred Pettry, Murfeesboro, TN; also, eleven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; one sister, Marfy Kathryn Mays of Madison, IN, two sisters-in-law Blanche Pettry, Staunton, VA and Patricia Greer, Baton Rouge, LA.
Friends may call at the Tyree Funeral Home at Mt. Hope, WV on Tuesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Services will be held at the Tyree Funeral Chapel Wednesday morning at 11:00 a.m.
Burial will follow at Highlawn Memorial Park of Oak Hill.

Lelia Adkins
DANVILLE, Va. - Lelia Hedrick Adkins, 92, of 1464 Blair Loop Road, died early Tuesday morning, Nov. 2, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center after 10 years of declining health.
Born Feb. 17, 1907, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of John Hedrick and Nannie Yeatts Hedrick.
She married
Wade Adkins, who predeceased her Oct. 9, 1964.
She spent most of her life in Danville where she was a homemaker and a member of Westover Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, Paul W. Adkins of Chatham; one daughter Remona Clendenen of Greenville, N.C.; one brother, Jack Hedrick of Callands; one half-sister, Betty Childress of Patterson, N.J.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Doug Barber and Rev. Robert Vermillion officiating. Burial will be in Greenbay Christian Church cemetery in Pittsylvania County.

Ercelle Fuqua Cox
CHATHAM, Va. - Ercelle Fuqua Cox, 83, of 4225 Spring Garden Road, died Monday, November 1, 1999, at her residence of the past year of declining health.
Born February 13, 1916, in Danville, Va., she was the daughter of Douglas W. Fuqua and Nora Dove Fuqua.
She married
Ambrose Henry Cox, January 11, 1938, who died December 7, 1990.
Mrs. Cox lived her life in the Pittsylvania Co. and Danville area where she was a member of Spring Garden Presbyterian Church, The Women Of The Church Organization and The Ladies Auxiliary Of The American Legion Post No. 325. Mrs. Cox was a homemaker.
Mrs. Cox was predeceased in death by two sisters Virginia Fuqua Hardy and Dorothy Fuqua Strader.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Carlton Cox and Linda H. Cox, of Danville, Va., Douglas W. Cox and Martha P. Cox, of Spring Garden; one daughter and son-in-law, Betty Cox Powell and Kenneth A. Powell of Danville; one brother, Marvin Lee Fuqua of Danville; two grandsons and granddaughters-in-law, Hughey Cox and Linda P. Cox, of Spring Garden and Mark D. Cox and Cheryl S. Cox, of Spring Garden; three granddaughters and two grandsons-in-law, Kimberly Powell Kendrick and Carson Kendrick, of Dry Fork, Va., Catherine Cox Decker and Michael Decker, of Ballston Spa, N.Y., and M. Born Sept. 28, 1917, in Clover, she was the daughter of Harry Howard Snead and Virginia Bomar Snead.

Edward Seddon "Ted" Holt, who predeceased her.
She was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church.
Survivors include one son, Edward Starke "Teddy" Holt of South Boston; three sisters, Mary Ann Reaves and Bobbie Sheffield, both of South Hill, and Nancy Brady of Finchley; two brothers, Ned Snead of South Boston and Harry Snead of Buffalo Junction; and two grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by one daughter, Phoebe Ann Holt; and one sister, Jean S. Thompson.

HILTON HEAD, S.C. - Jessie Wilson Johnson, 84, formerly of South Boston, died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 1999, at Life Care Center.
Born May 26, 1915, in Halifax County, Va., she was the daughter of Joe Rainey Wilson and Sally Kate Farmer Wilson.
She was married
to Leslie Sims Johnson.
She was a member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Joan Hodges of Indialantic, Fla., and Kaye McGarty of Hilton Head; one son, Leslie Johnson of Augusta; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Bob Fox officiating. Burial will be in Oak Ridge cemetery.
