BLAIRS, Va. - Christine "Tina" Pierce, 76, of 5137 U.S. 29 north, died Friday, Nov. 12, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center after several years of declining health.
Born Nov. 10, 1923, in Halifax County, she was the daughter of Buster Pierce and Evelyn Nickols Pierce. She spent most of her life in the Blairs community. She retired in 1977 from Dan River, Inc.
Survivors include one sister, Beatrice Walker of Danville; one brother, Calvin Pierce of Providence, N.C. A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Luther Lemon Jr. officiating.

Dale Watson
DANVILLE, Va. - Pastor Dale Franklin Watson, 53, of Danville and formerly of Patrick County died Saturday at his home after a lengthy illness.
Born in Columbus Co. NC, he was the son of Dewey P. Watson of Mount Airy, N.C., and the late Inez P. Watson Bolt.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a sister, Tracy Lott.
Pastor Watson served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and attended Fosyth Tech in Winston-Salem, N.C. He was ordained as a minister in 1974 and pastored at New Hope Church of the Brethren for 13 years, and then pastored at the First Church of the Brethren for the last 14 years.
In addition to his father, Pastor Watson is survived by his wife of 31 years, Mary B. Watson of Danville, VA; a daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Jeff Harrison of Ringgold, VA. a son and daughter-in-law, Bryan and Shannon Watson of Eden, N.C.; three brothers, Bobby G. Watson, Clyde P. Watson, and Gary S. Watson, all of Mt. Airy, N.C.; three sisters, Martha Stuttes of Ashboro, N.C., Susan DeVoe, and Jeanie Bolt, both of Jacksonville, Fl.; his step-mother, Martha Watson of Mt. Airy, N.C.; and a step-father, Kenneth Bolt of Jacksonville, Fl.; four grandchildren, Rachelle and Tracie Harrison of Ringgold, Va.; and Matthew and Evan Watson of Eden, N.C.
Funeral Services for Pastor Watson will be conducted Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Stuart with Revs. Harry Shelton, Danny Gilley, Ricky Berkley and Marvin Wade officiating. Interment
wil follow in Oakdale cemetery in Mt. Airy, N.C. The Watson family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday night at the funeral home. Military rites will be conducted by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Gideon Bible Fund.
Jason Harold Blane Sr.
DANVILLE, Va. - Jason Harold Blane Sr., 25, of 530 Heather St. died Saturday, Nov. 13, 1999 at Alamance Regional Medical Center in Burlington, N.C.
Born June 29, 1974 in Danville, Blane was the son of Edwin Harold Blane and Susan Lawson Hopkins of Danville, who both survive. He was married
to April Hudgins Blane of the residence, who survives.
Blane lived most of his life in Danville. He worked as a roofer for Sherman Hopkins Roofing Co. He was of the Holiness faith.
In addition to his wife and parents, Blane is survived by his son, Jason H. Blane Jr. of the residence, his stepdaughter, Kelsey Breona Hudgins of the residence, his stepfather, Sherman D. Hopkins of Danville, two brothers, Jamie Milbert Blane of Danville and Eriah Haze Blane of Graham, N.C., his stepbrother, Carl Brandon Gill of Volens and his paternal grandmother, Gaynell Stowe of Danville.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Henry M. Blane, and his maternal grandparents, Elaine S. Lawson and Roy M. Lawson.
Blane's funeral will take place 2 p.m. Tuesday at Barker Funeral Home. The Rev. Jeffrey E. Hopkins will officiate. Burial will follow in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Barker Funeral Home Chapel and at other times at the mother's residence, 230 Central St.
Howard Coleman Jr.
DANVILLE, Va. - Howard Lee Coleman Jr., 61, of 730 E. Green St. died Thursday, Nov. 11, 1999 at Danville Regional Medical Center.
He was born Sept. 7, 1938 in Pittsylvania County, a son of Howard Coleman Sr. and Mary Alice Adams Coleman.
He was employed as a cook at King of the Sea restaurant for many years.
He was formerly married
to Mable Coleman and later to Constance Bailes Coleman, who survives.
In addition to his wife of the residence, Coleman is survived by five daughters, Mary Alice Coleman, Preshia Logan, Hannaisha Coleman, Shangiska Coleman and Aaleyah Coleman, all of Danville; six sons, Michael Coleman, Kenny Coleman, Sherman Coleman, David Coleman, Akeem Logan and Kuwait Logan, all of Danville; one sister, Bertha Perry of Danville; one brother, Bill Coleman of Maryland, and a host of other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends at the residence, 730 E. Green St.
Funeral service for Coleman will be conducted 1 p.m. Monday from the chapel of Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home with the Rev. J.P. Griffith officiating. Interment
will follow in Highland Burial Park.
Joseph Edward Dunkley Sr.
CLOVER, Va. - Joseph Edward Dunkley Sr., 85, of 11163 James D. Hagood Highway died Sunday, Nov. 14, 1999 at Halifax Regional Hospital in South Boston.
Born April 1, 1914, in Halifax County, Dunkley was a son of Roy Dunkley and Mollie Barnes Dunkley. He married
Grey Culley Dunkley, who preceded him in death.
Dunkley was a veteran of the U.S. Army, a retired farmer and a member of Clover Baptist Church.
Dunkley is survived by three sons, Roger Dale Dunkley, Joseph Edward Dunkley Jr. and Aubrey Kyle Dunkley, all of Clover, one grandchild and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Clover Baptist Church. The Rev. Tom Walker will officiate. Burial will follow in the Clover cemetery.
Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Brooks Funeral Home in South Boston Monday and at other times at the residence, 11163 James D. Hagood Highway.
George Samuel Herndon
DANVILLE, Va. - George Samuel Herndon, 92, a former resident of Swansonville, died Sunday, Nov. 14, 1999 at Riverside Health Care Center.
Born March 14, 1907 in Pittsylvania County, Herndon was the son of George Cable Herndon and Annie Elliott Herndon.
He was married
to Pearls Wells Herndon, who predeceased him Sept. 19, 1985.
Herndon was a member of the Swansonville United Methodist Church. He served as superintendent for 20 years and performed various other duties in the church.
He is survived by one son, Kenneth C. Herndon of Danville, one daughter, Phyllis H. Allen of Raleigh, N.C., one brother, Richard Herndon of Danville, three sisters, Pearl H. Fuller of Callands, Annie Mae H. Scarce and Elsie H. Adkerson, both of Dry Fork, four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Townes Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Randy Williams and the Rev. Scott Holcomb-McLain will be conducting the services. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m to 9 p.m Monday at Townes Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at Kenneth Herndon's residence, 114 Chilton Court.
Keith William Moss
DANVILLE, Va. - Keith William Moss, 44, of 3708 Westover Drive died Saturday, Nov. 13, 1999 at Durham Regional Medical Center in Durham, N.C. after four months of declining health and four days in the hospital.
Born Nov. 17, 1954, he was a son of Thomas Albert Moss and Lila Strader Moss, who survive. He was married
Jan. 26, 1980 to Patricia "Patti" Atkins Moss of the residence.
Moss lived all of his life in Pittsylvania County and Danville. He was a 1973 graduate of Tunstall High School. Moss was a self-employed antique dealer who owned Moss Antiques.
He was a member of Westover Baptist Church, where he served as an usher and was very active in other church activities.
In addition to his wife and parents, who live in Danville, Moss is survived by two daughters, Nikki Nicole Moss and Melissa Ann Moss, both of the residence, and a sister, Dyan Moss Austin of Raleigh, N.C.
A funeral will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at Westover Baptist Church. The Rev. Dr. Doug Barber and the Rev. Robert Vermillion will officiate. Interment
will follow in the Moss Family cemetery on Vandola Road.

Louise "Grandma" Bell
GRETNA, Va. - Louise "Grandma" Bell, 84, of 1660 Lotus Drive, died Sunday, Nov. 14, 1999, at her residence.
Born Dec. 23, 1914, in Montgomery County, Md., she was the daughter of the late James Julian Ricketts and Hattie Lee Benson Ricketts.
She married
James P. Bell, who predeceased her.
She was a retired employee of J.C. Penneys.
Survivors include one daughter, Joyce M. Adams of Gretna; one son, Harvey E. Holcombe of Rapidan; one brother, Donald Ricketts of Fredericksburg; two sisters, Florence Loudermilk of Frederick, Md. and Mildred Marshall of Culpeper; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home with the Rev. W.D. Lilly officiating.
A graveside service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Oak Hill cemetery, Fredericksburg, with Kenny Worsham officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service, Tuesday, at the funeral home and at other times at the residence.
Evelyn Blair
FAIRFAX, Va. - Evelyn Mae Blair, 89, died Monday, Nov. 15, 1999, at Fairfax Nursing Center of congestive heart failure.
Born Sept. 11, 1910, she was the daughter of Thomas P. Blair and Ophelia Boaze Blair.
She was a longtime resident of Danville and worked in floral retail sales for 30 years and retired from H. H. Brown Florist in 1982. She was a member of the Fairview United Methodist Church for over 52 years.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She was predeceased by one sister Elizabeth Blair Ashworth.
Survivors include two nieces Edith E. Ashwood of Oakton, Va. and Blair Ashworth McSpadden of Arlington, Va.
A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Fairview United Methodist Church with the Rev. O. H. Burton, the Rev. Linwood Daniel and the Rev. Dr. Thomas Evans officiating. Burial will be in Boaze Family cemetery.
The family will receive friends 5-6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Townes Funeral Home Chapel.

DANVILLE, Va. - Virginia Dare Blankin Eldridge, 73, of 18 Augusta Ave., died Monday, Nov. 15, 1999, at her residence after five months of declining health.
Born Sept. 18, 1926, in Kings Mountain, N.C., she was the daughter of Walter Blankin and Flora Sword Blankin.
She married
Greet Bowman Eldridge, Oct. 1, 1946, who predeceased her June 30, 1978.
She spent most of her life in Danville. She was a tailor at Saters Mens Shop for many years prior to her retirement. She was a member of Brush Arbor Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Vivian Annette E. Scruton of Danville and Dianne E. Boyles of Piney Flats, Tenn.; one son, Wesley David Eldridge of Danville; two sisters, June Smith Starcher of Mentor, Ohio, and Mary Blankin Reynolds of Ewing; and five grandchildren.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Evelyn Waters and Juanita Duncanson; and one brother, J.H. Blankin.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with the Rev. Stephen Lamb, The Rev. Billy Scearce and the Rev. J.B. Baldridge officiating. Burial will be at Flower Gap cemetery, Blackwater.

Martha Henry
JAVA, Va.- Martha Vernita Henry, 75, of 568 Yeatts Store Road, died Sunday, Nov. 14, 1999, in Berry Hill Nursing Home in South Boston.
Born Sept. 30, 1924, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of the late Weldon Henry and Hattie Terry Henry.
She was a homemaker and a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters Minnie H. Fitzgerald of Suitland, Md. and Virginia Lewis of Danville; three sons Lawrence Henry of Ridgeway, Edward Jr. Henry of Fort Washington, Md. and David Henry Adams of Atlantic City, N.J.; one sister Gloria Henry of Yonkers, N.Y.; 17 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by one sister Jossie Henry Coleman; and four brothers Edward Henry, Gordon Henry, Dave Henry and Charlie Henry.
The body will lie in state one hour prior to the funeral service at Ebenezer Baptist Church.
A funeral will be at noon Wednesday at the church with the Dr. P.A. Medley officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
