Virginia, U.S., Marriage Records, 1936-2014

Carrie Craddock

ALTAVISTA, Va. - Carrie Chism Craddock, 93, died Friday, Nov. 19, 1999, in Autumn Care of Altavista.

Born Jan. 18, 1906, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Lilly Bell Mayhew Chism.

She married Robert Craddock, who predeceased her.

She was a member of Temple Baptist Church, Danville, and was a retired employee with Dan River Inc.

Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy Logwood of Altavista and Katherine Shields of Danville; two sisters, Orgile Reynolds of Pittsville and Gay Shelton of Danville; 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by one son, Nelson Craddock; one daughter, Argene Turner; and two brothers, Herman Chism and Earlie Chism.

A funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Lory Brafford officiating. Burial will be in Wagner Family cemetery.

The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home and at other times at the residence of her daughter Dorothy Logwood, 1011 Park St., Altavista.

Royal Glass

JAVA, Va. - Royal Glass, 79, of 106 Church Road, died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 1999, at Vencor Hospital, Greensboro, N.C.

Born Sept. 28, 1920, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of the late Reuben Glass and Mary Logan Glass.

He married Clevester Davis Glass, who predeceased him.

He was last employed by Diston and was a member of Riceville Baptist Church, and Riceville Masonic Lodge No. 268. He was a United States Army veteran serving during World War II.

Survivors include two brothers, Richard Glass of Jamaica, N.Y. and Walter Glass of Philadelphia; four sisters, Obelia Lanier of Java, Willie Mae Walker of Bunn Level, N.C., and Hildred Womack and Mildred Carter, both of Philadelphia.

In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by three sisters, Sarah Miller, Jessie Terry and Mabel Smith.

A funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Riceville Baptist Church with the Rev. Ronnie Walker officiating. Burial will be in church cemetery with military rites conducted by th Riceville Lodge No. 268.

Miller Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Dorothy Hammock

RICHMOND, Va. - Dorothy Kent Hammock, 86, died Thursday, Nov. 18, 1999.

She married Dr. David S. Hammock, who survives.

She was an active member of Derbyshire Baptist Church.

A private burial memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Simms Center of Lakewood Manor Baptist Retirement Community, 1900 Lauderdale Drive, Richmond.

The family will receive friends 1 p.m. in the Simms Center prior to the memorial service.

Woody Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Carrie Huffstickler

DANVILLE, Va. - Carrie Perkins Campbell Huffstickler, 78, of 306 Chatelanie Ave., died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 1999, at Duke Medical Center in Durham, N.C., after two years of declining health.

Born Feb. 26, 1921, in Danville, she was the daughter of Charles Otis Perkins and Nannie Pearl Hayden Perkins.

She first married Leon Livingston Campbell, who predeceased her and later married Marvin M. Huffstickler, who also predeceased her. She was of the Baptist Faith and lived her life in Danville and Pittsylvania County. She retired from Dan River, Inc. where she worked for 31 years as a spinner.

Survivors include four daughters, Frances Campbell Clark, Barbara Lee Campbell Hudgins and Karen Huffstickler Kuchinksi, all of Ringgold, and Gay C. Strader of McDonough, Ga.; two sons Charles Eugene Campbell of Ringgold and Timothy Edward Huffstickler of Milton, N.C.;four brothers Charles Perkins of Providence, N.C., Stanley Irvin Perkins of Danville, Otis Perkins of Graham, N.C. and Frank L. Perkins of Virginia Beach; three sisters Barbara P. Deboe of Rocky Mount, N.C., Annabelle P. Myers of Blanch, N.C. and Nancy P. Widner of Ringgold; 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husbands, she was predeceased by one son Leon Livingston "Sonny" Campbell Jr.; and two brothers Melvin L. Perkins and Billy R. Perkins.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Wrenn Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. B. Wayne Reece officiating. Interment icon will be in Highland Burial Park.

The family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 p.m. Saturday at the chapel and at other times at the residence of her daughter, Frances Campbell Clark, at 512 Little Creek Road, Ringgold.

David Ragland Jr.

RINGGOLD, Va. - David Lawson Ragland Jr., 96, of 2321 Miller Drive, died Friday, Nov. 19, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center.

Born March 7, 1903, in Danville, he was the son of David Ragland and Mary Stovall Ragland.

He married Beryl Bird Ragland, who predeceased March 23, 1965.

He attended Washington and Lee University and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania. He was a retired architect having worked for Thompson-Ragland. He was a member of Mount Vernon United Methodist Church.

He was the last surviving member of his immediate family and is survived by several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Jay Ashby officiating.

Townes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Chester Seifers

DANVILLE, Va. - Chester Willard Seifers, 71, of Corn Tassel Road, died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 1999, at North Carolina Baptist Hospital, Winston Salem, N.C.

Born March 27, 1928, in Jasper County, Newton, Ill., he was the son of Martha Pittman Seifers Carroll, who survives, and the late Gideon Seifers.

He married Mardell "Marty" Campbell, who also survives.

He was a graduate of the University of Tennessee in Chattanooga with a B.A. in Physics.

He worked for IBM in Raleigh, N.C. He retired in 1982, after 27 years of service and moved to Danville in 1989. He served in the United States Air Force during World War II.

In addition to his mother of Newton, N.C. and wife, survivors include two daughters Sharon Mills of Hamilton and Faith Powers of Woodstock, Conn.; five sisters, June, Betty, Ada Mae, Margaret and Nellie; three brothers, Neil, Larry and Robert; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Mount Hermon Baptist Church in Danville.

Cremation Society of Virginia is in charge of arrangements.

Mildred Starkey

DANVILLE, Va. - Mildred Barker Starkey, 82, of 329 Hampton Drive, died Thursday, Nov. 18, 1999, at her residence after several years of declining health.

Born Oct. 22, 1917, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Moses C. Barker and Annie Butcher Barker.

She married James Thomas Starkey Jan. 26, 1974, who predeceased her Feb. 4, 1998.

She lived most of her life in Danville. Prior to her retirement, she worked as bookkeeper for Nehi Bottling Company and later Hosa Wilson.

She was a member of Kentuck Baptist Church and the A.B.W.A.

Survivors include one step-daughter Susan Starkey Dykes of Danville; and one brother, Howe Barker of Ringgold.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by two brothers, Edwin C. Barker and Alvis Barker; and one sister, Louise B. Bennett.

A funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Kentuck Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. S. Felton Carter and the Rev. Carl Burger officiating. Interment icon will be in Highland Burial Park.

The family will receive friends at the residence of a nephew, J. Wesley Barker, 1804 Wilkerson Road, Ringgold.

Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Elsie Hughes

FOWLERVILLE, Mich. - Elsie McGregor Hughes, 85, died Thursday, Nov. 18 at McPherson Hospital, Howell, Mich., after several years of declining health.

Born Oct. 9, 1914, in Riceville, she was a daughter of the late Linwood Ford and Gladys Farmer McGregor.

She lived in Michigan since 1977, and prior to that she lived in Pittsylvania County. She was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Garland P. Hughes in 1977.

Survivors include a son, Arthur Kenneth Hughes, of Fowlerville; a daughter, Gladys Hughes Huff of Brighton, Mich.; a brother, Taylor E. McGregor of Chatham; two sisters, Frances McGregor Yeatts of Danville and Janie McGregor Hughes of Chatham; 10 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. Freddie J. Vicks officiating. Interment icon will follow in Highland Burial Park.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7:30-8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Annie Lee

DANVILLE, Va. - Annie Bell Simpson Lee, 85, of 649 Ferry Road, died early Saturday, Nov. 20 at Danville Regional Medical Center.

Born March 22, 1914, in Lynchburg, she was a daughter of the late Carrie Dove. She was predeceased by her husband, Deaver T. Lee, who died in 1984; as well as by a brother, Taft Brackston Simpson, and by a grandson.

She spent most of her life in Danville, retiring from Dan River, Inc. in 1976. She was a member of Forest Lawn Baptist Church.

Survivors include: a son, Emmett Frank Lee of Charlotte, N.C.; a daughter, Daisy Ring Taylor of Martinsville, six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

The funeral will take place 11 a.m. Monday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Roger Austin officiating. Burial will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday and at other times at the residence.

Hessie Hutcherson

DANVILLE, Va. - Hessie Burnett Hutcherson, 85, of 16 Oak Ridge Ave., died Saturday, Nov. 20, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center.

Born Feb. 7, 1914, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Jason Osborne and Loula Belle Emerson Burnett.

She lived most of her life in Pittsylvania County; however, she also resided in Maryland and Michigan.

She was of the Baptist faith.

She was married to George Edward Hutcherson on July 25, 1931. He predeceased her May 30, 1986.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by one son, Garnett E. Hutcherson; one grandson, James E. Hutcherson; five brothers, Clayton C. Burnett, Asa D. Burnett, Willie O. Burnett, James P. Burnett and Julian B. Burnett; and one sister, Levada Burnett Allmond.

Survivors include one sister, Elizabeth Burnett Lovelace of Baltimore; one grandson and five great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Barker Funeral Home with the Rev. Daniel Lackey officiating. Interment icon will be in Highland Burial Park.

The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and other times at the residence, 16 Oak Ridge Avenue.

Anne Love

GRETNA, Va. - Anne Taylor Love, 76, of Richmond and Gretna, died Friday, Nov. 19, 1999, after a lengthy battle against Alzheimer's Disease.

She was the widow George Edward Love Jr. Mrs. Love was a longtime member of Centenary United Methodist Church, where she served on the Altar Guild and was a devoted member of the Hodges Bible Class.

Mrs. Love was a charter member of Women in Construction (WIC) and a life member of Blanche Spencer Chapter No. 11 O.E.S. In 1986, she retired from J.W. Bastian Company in 1986.

She was born in Gretna, Va., the second daughter of Eugene L. Taylor and Lou Jane Adrews Taylor.

Mrs. Love is survived by a son, George Edward Love III; a daughter, Deborah Love Yoder and her husband, the Rev. Bruce A. Yoder, all of Richmond; three brothers, Charles, Edward and Ramsey Taylor, all of Gretna; three sisters, Rebecca Taylor Snow, E. Agnes Taylor and Katherine Taylor Petty, all of Lynchburg; and three grandsons, Stephen A. Bryant Jr., Andrew Dudley Love and Robert Edward Love, all of Richmond.

A service of thanksgiving for her life will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 24 at Zion United Methodist Church, Gretna.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, friends remember her by donating to the Centenary United Methodist Church Capital Campaign or to Circle Center Adult Day Services, 3900 W. Broad St., Richmond, Va., 23226.
