Bernice Parks
DANVILLE, Va. - Bernice Eunice Gentry Parks, 62, of 134 Blue Jay St., died Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 1, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center after five years of declining health.
She was born Dec. 11, 1936, in Elkin, N.C.
She spent most of her life in Danville and worked for Dan River, Inc. before retiring on disability. She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include one son Darrell Murdock of Danville; four daughters Carol Maples, Sandra Leisten and Patsy Rainey, all of Rock Hill, S.C. and Laura Adams of Stanley, N.C.; two brothers Kenneth Gentry of Danville and Norman Gentry of Rock Hill; 17 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Schoolfield cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and at other times at the residence.
John Seay, Sr.
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - John Gray Seay, Sr., 79, of 1520 Jane Drive, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 1999, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.
Born Nov. 26, 1919, in Schoolfield, Va., he was the son of Jesse Seay and Dove Pugh Seay.
He married
Anna Jean Ruehl Oct. 17, 1942, at Clayton.
He graduated from Schoolfield High School in 1938. He served from 1937-1940, with Danville, Va. Unit Co. "G" 110th Medical Regiment, Virginia National Guard, and finished his service in World War II in the United States Air Corp. He worked as flight service station specialist for the Federal Aviation Administration for 36 years. He was Powder Puff Derby weather briefer and past commander of the VFW Post No. 3838. He was a member of National Association of Retired Federal Employees, and was regional president for the group. He was an active officer in Cape Girardeau Senior Center and was a volunteer for United Way. He served on the Silver Hair Legislature for six years. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include two daughters Mary Jane Freymuth of Troy and Mindy Elizabeth Hamlett of Egypt Mills; one son John G. Seay, Jr. of Midland, Texas; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was predeceased by three brothers and one sister.
A funeral was held Friday, Nov. 19, 1999, at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home, Cape Girardeau.
Missouri Vasser
DANVILLE, Va. - Missouri Belle Vasser, 76, of 133 Smith St., died Sunday, Nov. 28, 1999, at Roman Eagle Nursing Home.
Born Jan. 20, 1923, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of George Pitrell and Ollie Belle Bethel.
She married
Robert M. Vasser, Sr., who survives.
She was a tobacco worker and a member of Successful Text No. 143. She was former musician for Shiloh Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include two sons Rucker Vasser of Washington, D.C. and Robert M. Vasser, Jr. of Laurel, Md.; two daughters Rita Vasser of Arlington, Va. and Angela Webster of District Heights, Md.; one sister Alma Jones of Danville; and two grandchildren.
A funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Shiloh Baptist Church with the Rev. Cecil Bridgeforth officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Jameka Chaney
SUTHERLIN, Va. - Jameka Katrina Chaney, of 2841 Ringgold Deport Road, died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 1999, at Virginia Baptist Hospital, Lynchburg.
Born Nov. 17, 1999, in Danville, she was the daughter of Robert Grasty and Tameka Chaney.
Survivors include one sister, Nia Grasty of Reidsville, N.C.; paternal grandparents, Robert and Susie Grasty; maternal grandparents, Dean and Gladys Chaney.
A graveside service will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Highland Burial Park.

Julia Hurst
DANVILLE, Va. - Julia Madeline Smith Hurst, 94, of 2526 North Main St., died Thursday, Dec. 2, 1999, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home, after several years of declining health. She was in the nursing home for ten years.
Born June 20, 1905, in Donalds, S.C., she was the daughter of Thomas Eugene Smith and Sarah Henrietta Carroll Smith.
She married
Calvin Ward Gore on May 25, 1929. He predeceased her.
She lived most of her life in Augusta, Ga., where she was a retired Public Health Nurse before moving to Danville in 1989. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was a member of North Main Baptist Church and a former member of First Baptist Church of Augusta, where she was a Sunday school teacher and head of Home Bound Ministry.
Survivors include one son, Fraser W. Gore of Danville; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by one son, Captain Calvin T. Gore.
A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. A. Kyle Flora officiating.

Stephen Miller
WILMINGTON, Del. - Stephen Miller, 49, died Monday, Nov. 29, 1999, at St. Francis Hospital, Wilmington.
Born June 18, 1950, in Halifax County, Va., he was the son of Everlean Tucker and the step-son of Ralph Tucker, who both survive.
In addition to his parents of Wilmington, survivors include two sons, Stephen Miller and Sidney Miller of Newark, Del.; two sisters, Earnell Hubson and Darlene Taylor of Wilmington; two brothers, Matthew Miller and Timothy Miller of Wilmington.
The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.
A funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Cluster Pine Holiness Church in Gretna, Va., with the Bishop Anthony Miller officiating.
The family will receive friends at the residence of Vergie Tucker, 15501 East Gretna Road, Gretna.

DANVILLE, Va. - Marion Cleveland Sasser, 76, of 316 Cathy Drive, died Thursday, Dec. 2, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Feb. 9, 1923, in Selma, N.C., he was the son of Wiley Cleveland Sasser and Ada Brewer Sasser.
In 1947, he married
Videl Scruggs Sasser, who survives.
He was a graduate of North Carolina State University. He owned and operated Sasser Equipment Company. He was a member of The Rotary Club of Danville and Trinity United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include two daughters, Dell S. Hawkins of Forrest and Ann B. Sasser of Danville; two sisters, Ruby S. Jayson of Charlotte, N.C. and Mary Lee Sasser Ludwick of Zephyrhills, Fla.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Bradley Sasser Jr. and Raymond T. Sasser.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. Levi Stroud, the Rev. Linwood Daniel and the Rev. Morgan Smart officiating. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.

Minister Goode White
CHATHAM, Va. - Minister Goode J. White, 74, of 417 Hickory Road, died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 1999, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born March 25, 1925, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Goode J. White Sr. and Carrie B. White.
He married
Frances White, who predeceased him.
He was a member of Green Rock Holiness Church. He was a veteran of the United States Army, and served during World War II. He was retired from Dan River Inc.
Survivors include one son, Billy B. White of Burksville; five daughters, Rosa Williams of Louisville, Ky., Rebecca West and Frances White, both of Chatham, Loretta King of Tampa, Fla. and Lilly Fitzgerald of Danville; one brother, Waddell White of Danville; one sister, Elizabeth Clark of Washington, D.C.; 24 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Green Rock Holiness Church with the Elder Mandora Hayes officiating. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park with military rites conducted by the American Legion Post No. 325.
A viewing will be 4-6 p.m. Saturday at the church.

Lucille C. Dalton
DANVILLE, Va. - Gloria Lucille Coleman Dalton, 70, of 519 Stephens St., died Saturday, Dec. 4, 1999, at her residence after several years of declining health.
Born April 5, 1929, in Danville, she was the daughter of James Clyde Coleman and Rena Worsham Coleman.
She was married
to Levi Blair "B.D." Dalton, who predeceased her.
She was of the Holiness faith. She lived her entire life in Danville.
She was retired from Dan River Inc., where she worked in the spinning room.
Survivors include four daughters, Vickie D. Jackson, Joyce D. Brumfield, and Carol D. Barber, all of Danville, and Rhonda F. Reynolds of Sutherlin; two sons, David M. Dalton and Raymond B. Dalton, both of Danville; one brother, James Clyde Coleman, Jr. of Charlotte, N.C.; 11 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Monday, at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. John C. Gentry officiating.
Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.

Raymond Farlow
FOREST, Va. - Raymond Cecil Farlow Sr., 68, of 105 Jane Randolph St., died Sunday, Dec. 5, 1999, at Lynchburg General Hospital after being in the hospital for two weeks.
Born Feb. 23, 1931, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of the late James M. Farlow and Gladys Robertson Farlow, who survives.
He lived in the Lynchburg and Danville areas most of his life. He worked as a project manager for Southern Air Inc.
He was a member of Freedom Word Church in Appomatox.
He was married
to Billie Jean Kelly Farlowon Feb. 5, 1949,, who survives.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include one daughter, Carolyn Rae Farlow Mabe of Rocky Mount; three sons, Raymond Cecil Farlow Jr. and Michael Swanson Farlow, both of Danville, and Mark Victor Farlow of Charlotte, N.C.; one brother, James Marvin Farlow Sr. of Danville; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was predeceased by one grandson.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Riveroak Church of God with the Rev. Tim Nuckles and the Rev. Greg Mayhorn officiating. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
