GRETNA, Va - Arlene Roach Chatten Gregory, 65, of 40304 Rockford School Road, died Thursday, Dec. 9, 1999, at her residence.
Born July 15, 1934, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Lewis Roach and Pearl Miller Roach.
She married
Leroy Chatten, who predeceased her, and later married
Andrew Gregory, who also predeceased her.
She was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary M. Haley and Dorothy Chatten, both of Gretna; five sons, Frankie Chatten and Joe Chatten, both of Gretna, Danny Chatten of Pelham, N.C., David Chatten of Altavista and Edward Chatten of Danville; two sisters, Abbie Jones of Chatham and Ruth Hubbard of Norfolk; three brothers, Namon Roach of Gretna, Joe Roach of Summerset, N.J., and Floyd Roach of Charlottesville; one step-son, Steve Gregory of Gretna; 28 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. Burnette Clark officiating. A repass will be in the fellowship hall of the church. Burial will be in Roach family cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and at other times at the residence.

Margaret Haley
DANVILLE, Va. - Margaret Virginia Dunn Haley, age 82, of 156 Gray Street, died Tuesday, December 7, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
Born May 29, 1917, in Damascus, she was the daughter of the late James "Red" Dunn and Ida Dunn Wilson.
She was married
February 22, 1957, to William S. Haley Jr., of the home.
Mrs. Haley had lived most of her life in Danville and carried papers for many years at the Danville Regional Medical Center. She was a member of the New Life Community Church.
In addition to her husband of the home, survivors include three daughters, June Delores Grant of East Keansburg, N.J., Yvonne Marie Farmer of Ringgold and Brenda Kay Scearce of Dry Fork; one son, James Michael Dunn of Las Vegas; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with the Rev. Steve Smith officiating. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the residence of her daughter at 301 Manna Hill Road, Ringgold.

Lucille Harris
DANVILLE, Va. - Lucille Wimble Harris, 90, formerly of 123 Third Ave., died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 1999, at Stratford Health Care Center.
Born July 30, 1909, in Sanford, N.C., she was the daughter of Thomas David Wilkie and Lena Welborn Wilkie.
She married
J.W. Harris, who predeceased her Jan. 11, 1984.
She lived most of her life in Danville and was a member of Third Avenue Congregational Christian Church. She worked at Prescott Dry Cleaners as sales clerk before retirement.
Survivors include one daughter, Sylvia Payne of Danville; one son, Ray Harris of Danville; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was predeceased by two sons, Edward Rigsby and Thomas Rigsby.
A funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Barker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Scott Huffstetler and the Rev. Calvin Blackstock officiating. Burial will be in Mountain View cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence of her daughter, 137 Tamworth Drive.
Brian Keith Hobson Sr.
DANVILLE, Va. - Brian Keith Hobson Sr., age 34, of 155 Ruskin Street, died early Wednesday morning, December 8, 1999, as the result of an automobile accident on the Shady Grove Road in Caswell County, North Carolina.
Mr. Hobson was born in Danville on August 17, 1965, a son of David C. "Joe" Hobson and Frances Hines Hobson, both of whom survive.
Mr. Hobson had spent most of his life in Danville where he was an electrician and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors in addition to his parents of Danville include one son: Brian Keith Hobson Jr., of
Dry Fork, and one Brother and sister in law: David and Cindy Hobson of Danville, and his paternal grandparents: John and Vernie Hobson of Yadkinville, North Carolina, and his maternal grandmother and Step Grandfather: Thelma and Herbert Peters of Danville.
He was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Woodrow Hines.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Daniel G. Lackey. Interment
will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m., and at other times at the residence of his parents, 155 Ruskin Street.
Bernice Marshall
DRY FORK, Va. - Bernice Williams Marshall, 90, formerly of 3420 Whitmell School Road, died Thursday, Dec. 9, 1999, at Blue Ridge Rehabilitative Center, Martinsville. She had been a resident for 14 months.
Born Nov. 18, 1909, in the Dry Fork community of Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of John C. Collins and Minnie Payne Collins.
She married
Ryan Williams, who predeceased her, and later married
James Madison Marshall, who also predeceased her.
She spent most of her life in the Dry Fork community of Pittsylvania County. She worked as a bookkeeper for Dan River Inc. and also for Belk Leggett. She was a member of Danville Primitive Baptist Church.
Survivors include two brothers, Posey Aulton Collins of High Point, N.C., and Herbert P. Collins of Martinsville.
A funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Elder Julian B. Williams and Elder C.B. Davis officiating. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral Home.
Lola Morris
DANVILLE, Va. - Lola Turner Morris, 81, died Thursday, Dec. 9, 1999, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born April 19, 1918, in Danville, she was the daughter of Archer A. Turner and Willie Fox Turner.
She married
Stover Jones Morris, who predeceased May 24, 1993.
She was a graduate of George Washington High School and Averett College. She was a legal secretary for Carter and Williams Law Firm. She was a member of First Baptist Church and former member of The Wednesday Club.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by one son, Stover Jones Morris III.
A graveside service will be 4 p.m. Saturday at Mountain View cemetery with the Rev. Joe Northen officiating.

Marie Harrell Privette
DEWITT, Va. - Marie Harrell Privette, 68, of Dewitt died Monday, December 6, 1999.
She was a native of Danville and the daughter of the late Robert Mac and Mary Elizabeth Dickens Harrell.
She served in the United States Air Force and was a retired Civil Service Employee at Fort Lee.
She is survived by her husband, Cecil Privette; four sons, Tony Privette and Tim Privette, both of Denver, CO, Daniel Privette of Emporia, and David Privette of Brodnax; one daughter, Nancy Lou Mann of Resaca, GA; two sisters, Sylvia "Pat" Lundy and Nancy VanPelt, both of Danville; one brother, Robert L. Harrell of Kansas City, MO; and twelve grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Patricia P. Ferris.
A Funeral Service will be held on 11 AM Monday December 13th at Faith Baptist Church in Hopewell with interment in The Virginia Veterans cemetery in Amelia County.
The family will receive friends in the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Homes on Sunday from 2 to 4 PM.

H. Bill Brown
DANVILLE, Va. - Harold Brightwell "Bill" Brown, age 85, died Wednesday night, December 8, 1999, at Riverside Health Care Center.
Born May 27, 1914, in Pittsylvania Co., VA., he was the son of John B. Brown and Sibbie Ferrell Brown.
On August 16, 1945, he married
Reva Brown.
He lived in the Mount Hermon Community most of his life.
He served from 1940-1945 in the U. S. Army.
Mr. Brown owned and operated Mount Hermon Exxon along with his brother before he retired. He was a member most of his life of Mount Hermon Baptist Church where he served as deacon. He was also a member of American Legion Post No. 325.
He was predeceased by one brother, Bob Brown.
Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Janet B. Adkins, son-in-law, Ronnie Adkins, one grandson, Michael Adkins, two brothers, Edgar W. Brown of Lynchburg, VA. and Henry G. Brown of Danville, one sister, Lillian B. Turner of Danville, one great-granddaughter, Janie Adkins, one great-grandson, M. Blake Adkins both of Danville.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Dec. 11, 1999, at 11:00 a.m. from Mount Hermon Baptist Church by Rev. Don Davidson. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park. Military Honors will be given by the Honor Guard of American Legion Post No. 325. The family will receive friends at home on Friday night 7:00 - 8:30 p.m.

Erline Guthrie
PETERSBURG, Va. - Erline Conner Guthrie, 62, of 16314 Chinook Drive, died Monday, Dec. 6, 1999, in Chippenham Medical Center, Richmond.
Born Sept. 16, 1937, in Halifax County, she was the daughter of Elisha Conner and Myrtle McKinney Conner.
She married
Aubrey Raymond Guthrie who predeceased her.
She was of the Pentecostal Holiness Faith.
Survivors include four daughters, Robin G. Taylor of Yale, Tiffany G. Terry of Petersburg, Cynthia G. Guthrie and Vicky Jo Weese-Drew, both of Richmond; two sisters, Eunice Wilbourne and Gladys Moore, both of South Boston; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by one son, Ted Arnold Guthrie.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Townes Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Abernathy officiating. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
Victoria Kelley
DANVILLE, Va. - Victoria Noemie Chambon Kelley, 78, of 271 West Main Street, died Thursday, December 9, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
She had been in the hospital for 10 days.
Born March 26, 1921, in St. Cirgues-EN-Montagne (ARDECHE) France: She was the daughter of Noemie Gineys and Andre Chambon.
She was married
October 6, 1945, to the late Robert V. Kelley.
She lived most of her life in Ringgold and worked a number of years at Dan River Inc.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
She was predeceased by a sister, Marie Chambon and a brother, Regie Teyssier.
She is survived by a sister, Neomie C. Chambon and a brother, Louis Chambon, both of France. She is also survived by a nephew and three nieces of Danville. They are: Bobby Myers, Marilyn Myers, Sylvia Lewis, and Deborah Law.
A graveside service will be conducted Sunday, December 12, 1999, at 4:00 p.m. from Highland Burial Park by Father David V. McGuire.
The family will receive friends at 225 Wooding Avenue.
