William Throckmorton
SCOTTSBURG, Va. - William Aaron Throckmorton, 70, of 2090 Green Level Road, died Sunday, Dec. 5, 1999, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born Sept. 8, 1929, in Halifax County, he was the son of Fuller S. Throckmorton and Lucy Edmundson Throckmorton.
He married
Mary Anne Throckmorton, who survives.
He was a veteran of the United States Army and a retired farmer.
He was a member of Scottsburg Baptist Church, American Legion Post No. 8 and a charter member of Scottsburg Volunteer Fire Department.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Pat Fisher and Jeannie Newton, both of Scottsburg; three sons, Kenneth Throckmorton of Louisa, Kevin Throckmorton of Cluster Springs and Ricky Throckmorton of Nathalie; three brothers, Marshall Throckmorton of Scottsburg, James Throckmorton of Orange and Bill Throckmorton of Louisa; one sister, Helen Wilmoth of Scottsburg; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Coris D. Throckmorton and Fuller S. Throckmorton Jr.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. H.V. Conner officiating. Burial will be in Oakland cemetery, Scottsburg.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and at other times at the residence.
Alice "Tennie" Chaney
CHATHAM, Va. - Alice "Tennie" Wimbush Chaney, 72, of 1840 Concord Road, died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 1999, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born March 10, 1927, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of James Mathis Wimbush and Mary Minor Wimbush.
She married
Henry Chaney, who survives.
She was a homemaker and a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband, survivors include four sons, Samuel Chaney of Danville, Rufus Chaney and Henry Lee Chaney, both of Chatham, and Michael Chaney of Burkeville; six daughters, Carolyn Price and Frances Booker, both of Chatham, Louise Inge of Blairs, Alice Faye Chaney of Danville, Sarah Chaney of Philadelphia, and Leshia Davis of Lynchburg; two sisters, Mary Steele of New York and Corine Moore of Chatham; and 16 grandchildren.
She was predeceased by three sisters Alberta Price Davis, Mamie Robinson and Nora McNeal; three brothers, Clarence, Roy and Lindsay Wimbush; and one grandchild.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Miller Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Burnette Clark officiating. Interment
will be in Hill Crest Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
William Clifton
DANVILLE, Va. - William Lane Clifton, 92, of 317 Shamrock Drive, died Thursday, Dec. 16, 1999, in Riverside Health Care Center.
Born June 7, 1907, in Mayberry, W. Va., he was the son of William T. Clifton and Fannie Hawthorne Clifton.
He married
the former Beatrice Osborne, Nov. 15, 1932, who survives.
He owned and operated a service station and garage until his retirement in 1971. He was a member of Mount Vernon United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include one daughter, Mary C. Franks of Danville.
A graveside service will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Mountain View cemetery with the Rev. Linwood Daniel officiating.

Inez Hollie
DANVILLE, Va. - Inez Holley Hollie, 87, formerly of 169 American Legion Blvd., died Thursday, Dec. 16, 1999, at Roman Eagle Nursing Home.
Born May 19, 1912, in Dry Fork, she was the daughter of Charlie Lester Holley and Susan Brumfield Holley.
She married
Allen Joseph Hollie Sr., Aug. 19, 1933, who predeceased her in 1983.
She lived in Danville all her life and was a housewife. She was a member of Danville Primitive Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Charlene H. Stone of Burlington, N.C., and Sandra H. Dodson of Ringgold; two sons, A.J. Hollie Jr. of Danville and Carrell V. Hollie of Nampa, Idaho, one brother, Irvin Holley of Danville; two sisters, Gladys H. Stegall and Viola H. Davis, both of Danville; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by two brothers, Russell Holley and Posie Holley; one sister, Mabel H. Wilson; one grandchild and one great-grandchild.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Barker Funeral Home Chapel with the Elder C.B. Davis and Elder Julian Williams officiating. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the residence of her daughter, Sandra Dodson, 3893 Ringgold Church Road.
Carroll Moore
HALIFAX, Va. - Carroll Wallace Moore, 57, of 3124 Chatham Road, died Thursday, Dec. 16, 1999, in Auckland, New Zealand.
Born Sept. 26, 1942, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of the late Willis Randolph Moore and Velora Redd Moore, who survives.
He was a member of Pleasant Grove United Church of Christ, and a retired pilot.
In addition to his mother of Halifax, survivors include two sons, Willis C. Moore of San Francisco, and Gary W. Moore of Raleigh, N.C.; maternal grandmother Minnie Redd of Halifax; one brother, Jerry R. Moore of Halifax and one sister, Cathy M. Cosby of Vernon Hill; and two grandchildren.

James Prunty
CHATHAM, Va. - James Edward Prunty, 74, of 1152 N. Main St., Apt. 4C, died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 1999, at his residence.
Born March 22, 1925, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of the late John H. Prunty and Mary Witcher Prunty, who survives.
He was retired from Stanley Furniture Company of Martinsville and was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his mother of Danville, survivors include one daughter, Katherine Dawson of Chatham; four sisters, Barbara P. Wilson of Danville, Gracie F. Adkins of Cascade, Margaret M. Daye of Chatham and Stella L. Prunty of Charlottesville; four brothers, Frank Prunty of Callands, Willie Prunty and Thurmond Prunty, both of Chatham and Irvin Prunty of Danville.
He was predeceased by two sons, John Henry Prunty II and James Douglas Prunty.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Miller Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Obadalee St. George officiating. Burial will be in Watson Level Baptist Church cemetery.
A viewing will be 4-7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Thornton Redd
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Thornton Wilton Redd, 66, of 1402 Berry Hill Road, died Thursday, Dec. 16, 1999, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born April 22, 1933, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Curtis Redd and Rebecca Kates Redd.
He married
Hedy Seamons Redd, who predeceased him and later married
Audrey Ford McCormick Redd, who survives.
He was a retired machinist with ABB and was a member of Revelation Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife of South Boston, survivors include two sons, Dale Anthony Redd and Monty Neil Redd, both of South Boston; two step-son, Charlie McCormick Jr. of Scottsburg and Douglas McCormick of Halifax; one brother, Charlie Redd of South Boston; one grandchild and one step-grandchild.
In addition to his first wife, he was predeceased by three brothers, Thomas Redd, Clarence Redd and Edmund Redd.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Brooks Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Rudolph Jacobs and the Rev. Johnny Davis officiating. Burial will be in Halifax Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home and at other times at the residence.
Irene Stoots
DANVILLE, Va. - Irene A. Stoots, 85, of Abington Place of Danville, died Thursday, Dec. 16, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center after of three years of declining health.
Born Dec. 29, 1913, in Giles County, she was the daughter of Phillip Arthur Albert and Lula Pearl Anderson Albert.
She married
Harry McKinley Stoots, who predeceased her Dec. 29, 1955.
She lived her life in Pulaski County, moving to Danville, three years ago. She resided in Abington Place of Danville for the past 18 months. She worked for Paul Knitting Mill and Dobson Knitting Mill prior to her retirement. She was an active member of the Open Door Baptist Church in Pulaski County.
Survivors include one daughter, Anne S. Phillips of Danville; and two grandchildren.
A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Lee Ellison officiating. The family will receive friends at the residence of her daughter at 102 Blair Place. Wrenn-Yeatts is in charge of arrangements.

Sarah Monnich
DANVILLE, Va. - Sarah Elizabeth Monnich, 79, died Saturday, Dec. 18, 1999, in the Riverside Health Care Center.
Born Mar. 18, 1920, in Bovard, Pa., she was the daughter of Charles Monnich and Violet Muir Monnich.
She is survived by one brother, Carl W. Monnich of Danville.
Graveside services will be Monday at 2:00 at Mountain View cemetery with the Rev. John Warner officiating.
The family will receive friends at the residence of her brother, 207 Cline St.

Warren Pickral
KEELING, Va. - Willima Warren Pickral, 70, of 4336 Mt. Tabor Rd., died Saturday, Dec. 18, 1999, in Danville Regional Medical Center of several years of declining health.
He was born April 2, 1929 in Pittsylvania County.
He lived all of his life in Pittsylvanis County. He was retired from the City of Danville Electric Dept., and was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy. He also served in the U.S. Army. He was predeceased by one brother, Marvin Pickral.
Survivors include four sons, Larry Pickral, Lynn Pickral, Daryl Pickrall, and Ricky Pickral, all of Gretna.
