Norman Clark
DANVILLE, Va. - Norman Otis Clark, 71, of 153 New Ingram Road, died Dec. 24, 1999 after nine days in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born May 7, 1928 in Pittsylvania County, Clark was a son of Euist V. Clark and Mattie Hudgins Clark.
Clark lived all his life in Pittsylvania County and Danville. He retired from the former National Service Station and Garage. After his retirement he worked for Lee's Riverside Amoco Station. Clark was of the Baptist faith.
Clark is survived by one sister, Lois C. Adkins of Danville, and one brother, Herman V. Adkins of Danville. He was predeceased by his sister Elizabeth C. Rigsby and his brother Henry J. Clark.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel. The Rev. Roy Newton, the Rev. Henry W. Taylor and the Rev. Hylton Lawrence will officiate. Interment
will follow in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel. The family will receive friends at other times at the residence of Clark's nephew, Luther Adkins Jr., 209 Eastwood Drive, Danville.
Roy Jordan Sr.
EASLEY, S.C. - Roy Jordan Sr., 89, of 213 Laboone Road, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999 after one year of declining health.
Born Dec. 30, 1909 in Piedmont, Jordan was a son of Edgar and Amanda Jordan. In October 1941, he married
Ollie Phillips Jordan, who preceded him in death.
Jordan lived most of his life in Danville, Va. He worked at Dan River Mills Inc. and later worked at Auto Parts and Glass, from which he retired. He later worked part time for 20 years at Elliott's Cleaners and Laundromat. He was a member of Victory Baptist Church.
Jordan is survived by two sons, Roy Phillip Jordan of the residence and Roy "Pete" Jordan Jr. of Greenville, two daughters, Pearl J. Jones and Sybill J. Beattie, both of Easley, 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchild.
Jordan was predeceased by two sons, Robert Lee Jordan and James W. "Jay" Jordan, and three brothers, Luther Jordan, Frank Jordan and Willie Jordan.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel in Danville. Interment
will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel. At other times the family will receive friends at the residence of his granddaughter, Debbie Jordan Shelton, 5945 Rocksprings Road, Sutherlin, Va.
Frances Murdock
DANVILLE, Va. - Frances White Murdock, 83, of 202 Skylark Drive, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center after three and one-half months of declining health.
Born Dec. 20, 1916, in Chattanooga, Tenn., she was a daughter of John Sturman White and Ella Roda Melton White.
She married
J.V. Murdock, who predeceased her, June 9, 1991.
Since 1984, she made her home in Danville after spending most of her life in Newport News.
She was a homemaker and a member of Fairview United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Alpha Circle.
She was also a member of Kings Daughters Federal Retirement Employees.
Survivors include two sons, John Arthur Murdock of Boydton and David Francis Murdock of Danville; one daughter, Charlotte Ann Cox of Danville; two brothers, Willis Reginal White of Newport News and John Franklin White of Pembroke Pines, Fla.; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Fairview United Methodist Church with the Rev. O.H. Burton officiating. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel.
Roger Conner
CHATHAM, Va. - Roger Dale Conner, 56, of 1397 Emery Road, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999, at his residence.
Born May 2, 1943, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of the late Mayard John Conner and Mary Louise Haskins Conner, who survives.
In addition to his mother, survivors include two sons, the Rev. Robert L. Conner of Mitchell, S.D., and Brian K. Conner of Hurt; four brothers, Ryland Conner, Ray Conner, Onyx Conner and Garnett Conner, all of Chatham; and four grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Scott Funeral Home with the Rev. Rudolph A. Hearn officiating. Interment
will be in Hillcrest Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at 7-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and at other times at the residence of his mother.

Lillie Mae Foy
CHATHAM, Va. - Lillie Mae Foy, 71, of 2548 Spring Garden Road, died Saturday, Dec. 25, 1999, in Elder Care Nursing Home, Rocky Mount.
Born May 5, 1928, in Roanoke, she was the daughter of Henry Webster Foy and Grace Dexter Smith Foy.
She lived Greensboro, N.C. prior to moving to the Spring Garden community nine years ago. Before retiring she worked as a cashier for an ABC Package store.
Survivors include one sister, Frances Oakes of Chatham.
She was predeceased by three sisters, Ruby I. Tansley, Edna M. Gauldin and Evelyn B. Foy; and one brother, James H. Foy.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday in Schoolfield cemetery with the Rev. Michael Burnett officiating.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Marion Haley
DANVILLE, Va. - Marion J. Haley, 69, of 216 Swain Drive, died Saturday, Dec. 25, 1999, at his residence.
Born April 23, 1930, in Newport News, he was the son of the late Ottis Tucker Haley and Alice W. Bryant, who survives.
He was married
to Delma Chaney Haley, who survives.
Mr. Haley was a professional engineer for the State Health Department, working for 20 years in Richmond before transferring to Danville as regional director of water programs. He retired in 1988.
He was veteran of the United States Army.
In addition to his wife of the residence and his mother of Danville, survivors includes one brother, Robert M. Haley and his wife Jean C. Haley of Sutherlin, Va.; one aunt, Eleanor Yancey of Oxford, N.C. and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 27, 1999, at Townes Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Zane G. Norton and the Rev. Linwood Daniel conducting the service. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999, at the funeral home and at other times at the residence.

Carroll Luck
DANVILLE, Va. - Carroll Luck, 63, of 236 Sylvan Road, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born April 1, 1936, in Danville, he was the son of Spencer Luck and Mary B. Jones.
He was married
to Geraldine Davis Luck, who survives.
He attended school in Pittsylvania County and was retired from Disston.
In addition to his wife, survivors include four children, Cecil Luck of Silas City, N.C., Rick Luck of Roxboro, N.C., and Diane Luck and Catherine Davis, both of Danville; three sisters, Minnie Luck and Ollie Wes, both of Danville and Ruby Dixon of New Rochelle, N.Y.; two brothers, Willie Green Luck and Harper Luck, both of Danville; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home with the Rev. Willard Smith officiating. Burial will be in Shockoe Baptist Church cemetery in Chatham.
Musa Shelton
CHATHAM, Va. - Musa Kate Shelton Shelton, 89, of 4728 Chalk Level Road, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999, at Riverside Health Care Center.
Born Oct. 31, 1910, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Rawley Martin Shelton and Lillie Abbott Shelton.
She married
John Willoughby Shelton, who predeceased her.
She was a member of Sheva Church of Christ.
Survivors include two daughters, Rose S. Powell of Chatham and Shirley S. Quinn of Danville; three sons, Jack S. Shelton of Chatham, Phillip W. Shelton of Blairs and Joseph W. Shelton of Keysville; one sister, Edna S. Scruggs of New Port News; nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Sheva Church of Christ with the Rev. Larry L. Owen and the Rev. Hershel Stone officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Virgie Warren
DANVILLE, Va. - Virgie Holley Warren, age 88, formerly of 520 West Main Street, died early Friday morning, Dec. 24, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center after eight months of declining health.
Mrs. Warren was born in the Callands community of Pittsylvania County on July 21, 1911, a daughter of the late Asa Jackson Slayton and Mary Betty Mitchell Slayton.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Louis C. Holley, who died in January 1977, and also by her second husband, Joel L. Warren, who died in October 1979.
Mrs. Warren spent most of her life in Danville, where she retired in 1977 from Danville Memorial Hospital where she was a nurse's assistant. She was a member of College Park Baptist Church and the Retired Employees Club.
Survivors include two sons, Arnold J. "Jack" Holley and Louis Earl Holley, both of Danville; six grandchildren, Steven Holley, Joan Holley Stowe, Rickey Holley, Lawrence Holley, LeAnn Barker and Jackie Cogburn; nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Jim Hewitt. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sunday and at other times at the residence of her son, Louis Earl Holley, 329 Wrenn Drive.
Joseph Barnett
ALTON, Va. - Joseph MacArthur Barnett, 56, of 2018 Traynham Grove Rd., died Friday, Dec. 24, 1999 at Duke University Medical Center.
Born Feb. 12, 1943, in Durham N.C., he was the son of James Barnett and Louise Medlin Barnett.
He was the owner/operator of Black Walnut Stables.
Survivors include his ex-wife, Donna Faulkner of Hurdle Mills, N.C.; one daughter, Lavonne Barnett Wren of Alton; three brothers, James Barnett, Earl Barnett, and Johnny Barnett, all of Durham, N.C.; five sisters, Faye Grant of Dunn, N.C., Loray Averett of Greensboro, N.C., Mary Stames, and Janie Scott, both of Durham, N.C., and Ethel Smith, of Oklahoma.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one sister, Gray Flessner, and one brother, Kenneth Barnett.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, at the graveside, with interment following at Black Walnut Stables.
