VERNON HILL, Va. - Jean White Landrum Welcher, 59, of 1005 Landrum Trail, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, at her residence.
Born Aug. 18, 1940, in Halifax County, she was the daughter of the late Kermit L. Landrum and Elizabeth Womack Landrum, who survives.
She married
Floyd Calvin Welcher Jr., who also survives.
She was a member of Ingram United Church of Christ.
In addition to her mother and husband of Vernon Hill, survivors include two sons, Michael Calvin Welcher of Virgilina and Ronald Lynn Welcher of South Boston; one sister, Jeannette Landrum Carter of South Boston; and two grandchildren.
A graveside service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Ingram Christian Church cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Eddie Walker officiating.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Gertrude Wray
ALTAVISTA, Va. - Gertrude Cox Wray, 81, formerly of 1508 School St., died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, in Autumn Care of Altavista.
Born May 15, 1918, she was the daughter of John Cox and Luddie Brown Cox.
She married
Lewis Wray, who predeceased her.
She was a retired employee of Centel Telephone Company. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Altavista where she served as past president of the usher board.
Survivors include a foster son, Quentis Fisher of Altavista; one sister, Helen Dixon of Detroit.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by one sister, Minnie Austin; and four brothers, Cleo, Archie, John Wesley and Floyd Cox. A funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. J.W. Brown officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Friday at the church and at other times at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Quentis Fisher, 1712 Eudora Lane.

Katherine Allen
TUCSON, Ariz. - Katherine Malloy Allen died Thursday December 30, 1999 in Tucson, Az. following a period of declining health.
She was born in Yanceyville, N.C. the daughter of the late Nannie Kerr and Dr. Stephen A. Malloy.
She attended West Hampton College, a division of the college of William and Mary in Richmond, Virginia and was a graduate of Meredith College in Raleigh, N.C. She attended the Powers School of Modeling in New York City and was employed for several years as a fashion model.
In April 1940, she was married
to James I. Pritchett, III of Danville, Va. and resided in Danville until his death in 1951. In the late 1950’s she was married
to Woodson Allen of Tuscon and lived there until her death.
She is survived by her husband, Woodson Allen of Tuscon, cousins, Mary Kerr Motz of Yanceyville and Mary Frances Kerr Donaldson of Raleigh; in addition to numerous cousins in Winston-Salem. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Yanceyville.
Funeral Services will be Friday 2 p.m. January 7, 2000 at First Baptist Church, with interment in the church cemetery.

Bernice Herndon
DRY FORK, Va. - Bernice Naomi Carter Herndon, 71, of 15908 Mount Cross Road, died on Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, of several months of declining health.
Born Feb. 8, 1928, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Charles Allen Carter and Nannie Ellen Hardy Carter.
She married
Everett Eugene Herndon, who survives, on Nov. 28, 1946. Mrs. Herndon had lived all of her life in Pittsylvania County. She had retired after 30 years of service from Dan River Inc. where she had worked in the 1A & 1B Weave Rooms. She was a 65 year member of Bethlehem Baptist Church where she was a former choir director, a choir member and she had worked in the nursery.
In addition to her husband, survivors include four daughters and sons-in-law, Naomi and Randy Gibson; and Brenda and Alonza Edwards, both of Dry Fork, Pam and Billy Riggins of Chesapeake, and Nancy and Charles Walker of Danville; two brothers, Hardy Carter of Brosville, and Ralph Carter of Dry Fork; three sisters, Sue Merricks of Brosville, Helen Penland of Lehigh Acres, Fla., and Lois Scearce of Cocoa Beach, Fla., and nine grandchildren, Barry, Charlie and Damon Edwards, Amanda and Rand Gibson, April and James Riggins, and Gregg and Peyton Walker.
She was predeceased by three brothers, Joe Carter, Wilbur Carter and Reginald Randolph Carter, and two sisters, Margaret Slaughter and Solona McCune.
A funeral will be Friday at 2:00 p.m. at the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel, with the Revs. J.B. Baldridge, Mike Hearp, and Malcolm Herndon officiating. Interment
will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel on Thursday, from 7-8:30 p.m., and other times at the residence of Brenda and Lonnie Edwards, 15988 Mount Cross Road.

Gertrude Morton
DANVILLE, Va. - Gertude Thompson Morton, 84, of 221 First St., died on Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 17, 1915, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Jim Thompson and Daisy Thompson.
She married
Frank Morton, who predeceased her. She was a laborer for American Furniture Company.
Survivors include two sons, Curtis Morton and James Morton, both of Danville; one daughter, Fleetwood Bigelow of White Plains, N.Y.; one sister, Mamie Nash of Danville; seven grandchildren, and 11 grandchildren.
A funeral will be 3 p.m. Friday, at Guildfield Baptist Church with the Rev. Harold Vann officiating. Interment
will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens.
Viewing will be Thursday, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Cunningham and Hughes Funeral Home.
The family will be in the home, 320 Little Creek Road.

Clarence Stanley
DANVILLE, Va. - Clarence Wiseman Stanley, 83, of 38 Stokesland Ave., died on Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, in Danville Regional Medical Center after one day there and two years of declining health.
Born June 10, 1916 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of William Stanley and Rosa Hutson Stanley.
He was married
to Alma Wattlington Stanley in August 1936, who survives. He spent most of his life in Danville where he worked as a fixer in the #1 card room for Dan River for 46 years, retiring at the age of 62. He was a charter member of Holland Road Baptist Church and had been attending Schoolfield Baptist Church for the past few years.
In addition to his wife, survivors include one daughter, Carolyn Stanley McGuire of Blairs; two sons, Phillip Kent Stanley of Danville, and Tommy Stanley of Ringgold; three sisters, Lucille Strader, Pearl Garrett and Minerva Pruitt, all of Danville; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by one brother, William Stanley, and one sister, Mary Gatewood.
A graveside funeral will be 11:00 a.m. Friday at Danville Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Dr. Lee Harris officiating.
The family will receive friends at Swicegood Funeral Home on Thursday from 7-8:30 p.m., and other times at the residence.

Malcolm Woodson
CHATHAM, Va. - Malcolm Lewis Woodson, 81, of 637 Oakland Drive, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born June 17, 1918, in Nelson County, he was the son of Charles Woodson and Maggie Woodson.
He married
Mildred Jones Woodson, who survives. He was a member of Chatham Baptist Church, and a U.S. Air Force Veteran. He served 43 years for the Commonwealth of Virginia with the Dept. of Corrections. He was a member and past master of Pittsylvania Lodge #24 A.F. and A.M., a member of and past member of Carter Lodge #323 A.F. and A.M.. He was a 32-degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of the Acca Temple Shrine of Richmond, the Morgan-Johnson Chapter #44 of the Order of the Eastern Star, and Euclid Royal Arch Chapter #15.
In addition to his wife, survivors include one son, Malcolm Woodson Jr., of Danville; one sister, Eula Mae Woodson, of Rocky Mount; one brother, Charles Kermit Woodson, of Del Rio, Texas; one step daughter, Linda Griggs of Richmond; two stepsons, Wayne Roberts of Ford, and Donald Roberts of Midlothian; one grandchild, six step grandchildren and four step great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday, at Scott Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Michael Macon officiating. Interment
with Masonic Rites will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Ridgecrest Baptist Church cemetery in Lovingston.

Andrew Yeatts
BLAIRS, Va. - Andrew Joshua Yeatts, 89, formerly of 8580 Spring Garden Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, at 459 Granville Drive, after three years of declining health.
Born Oct. 22, 1910, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of William Plunkett Yeatts and Martha Kate Yeatts.
He married
Lottie Terry Yeatts, who predeceased him on Oct. 17, 1988. He was a member of Chestnut Level Baptist Church, where he had served as superintendent of Sunday Schools. He lived most of his life in the Chestnut Level community of Pittsylvania County, and was a retired farmer.
Survivors include two daughters, Fay Yeatts McCarty and Ann Yeatts Jones, both of Danville, three grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by one brother, Lee Yeatts.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday, at Chestnut Level Baptist Church with the Revs. Lynn Marstin and F.P. “Rusty” Mullins Jr. officiating.
Interment will follow at Chestnut Level Baptist Church cemetery.

Dorothy Bartee
DANVILLE, Va. - Dorothy Weadon Bartee, 62, of 1009 Brandon Court, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center after seven days there and several years of declining health.
Born March 26, 1937, she was the daughter of Luther T. Weadon, who survives, and the late Irene Powell Weadon.
She married
James W. “Billy” Bartee, who also survives.
She lived in Danville her entire life and was a member of The Tabernacle. She was employed with Durham Hosiery Mills for 28 years prior to retirement.
In addition to her father and husband of Danville, survivors include one daughter, Deborah P. Parsons of Danville; three sisters, Betty Jo Barber of Chesterfield County, Linda Jones and Barbara Martin, both of Danville; one brother, Luther “Junior” Weadon of Danville; and one grandchild.
She was predeceased by one sister, Thelma Weadon Peterson, and one brother, John Wesley Weadon.
A graveside service will be 11 a.m Thursday in Floral Hills Memory Garden with the Rev. Kenneth Barnes, the Rev. Billy Scearce and Cleo Hundley officiating.
The family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel and at other times at the residence.
