Roy Lee Dalton

GRETNA, Va. - Roy Lee Dalton, age 85, of Gretna died Wednesday, January 5, 2000.
Born September 26, 1914 in Pittsylvania County he was a son of the late Ollie David Dalton and Lula Jones Dalton. He was predeceased by his step-mother Rosa Dalton, a son, Kenneth Lee Dalton, a brother M.T. Dalton and a granddaughter, Melissa Dalton. Mr. Dalton was a farmer.
He is survived by his wife, Ethel Doss Dalton of the residence; a son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Sharon Dalton of Gretna; two brothers Clifton “Click” Dalton and Lester Dalton both of Gretna; three sisters, Alice Gatewood of Danville, Eva Woodson of Lynchburg and Jerlene Dalton of Gretna; 3 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 8, 2000 at the Carl O. Moran Memorial Garden, Gretna by the Rev. R.G. Rowland.
The family will receive friends Friday, 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times at the residence of his son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Sharon Dalton, 289 Cotton Patch Road, Gretna.
Colbert-Moran Funeral Home, Gretna is in charge of arrangements.

Annie Eanes

AXTON, Va. - Annie Douglas Eanes, 86, of 2974 Lawrence Drive, died on Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, in Martinsville Memorial Hospital.
Born Oct. 4, 1913, in Henry County, she was the daughter of William Eanes and Emma Lawrence Eanes.
She was a seamstress, and worked for Dan River Mills for 18 years, and retired from Pannill Knitting after 12 years. She was a member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church.
Survivors include one brother, Clay Eanes, of the residence, and one sister, Nina Garrett, of Danville.
A funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday, at Norris Funeral Home, with the Revs. Dale Darley and George Agnew officiating. Interment icon will follow at Eanes Family cemetery in the Mt. Valley Community.
The family will receive friends at Norris Funeral Home on Friday, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., and other times at the residence.
Norris Funeral Services are in charge of arrangements.

George Anderson

BLAIRS, Va. - George Washington Anderson, 84, of 1116 Maison Drive, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, at the residence.
Born Oct. 14, 1915, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Bob and Lizza Anderson.
He was married to Eva McQueen Anderson, who survives. He was employed by the city of Flemington, N.J., prior to his retirement.
In addition to his wife, survivors include one sister, Ruth Anderson of Danville, and a host of other relatives and friends.
A funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. James Stewart officiating. Interment icon will follow at Highland Burial Park cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.

Virginia Adkins

DANVILLE, Va. - Virginia Edna Inman Bryant Adkins, 86, of 722 Mt. Cross Rd., died on Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000 at Annie Penn Hospital, Reidsville, N.C., after four years of declining health and a one-day stay in the hospital.
Born Oct. 24, 1913, in Pittsylvania Co., she was a daughter of the late Lee and Mrs. Inman.
She married O.Z. Adkins, who predeceased her. She spent most of her life in Pittsylvania Co. She worked at Dan River, Inc. for 34 years and was a member of Shermont Baptist Church.
Survivors include one step son, Calvin Bryant of Christiansburg, and one step daughter, Arline Blackstock of Mt. Reiner, Md.
A funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bill Soyars officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 7-8:30 p.m..
Swicegood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Jane Baker

DANVILLE, Va. - Mary Jane Baker, 70, of 149 Forestdale Drive, died on Thursday, January 6, 2000, at 2:30 a.m., at the residence.
Born February 7, 1929, in Winston-Salem, N.C., she was the daughter of Robert C. Dean and Margaret Elizabeth Snow Dean.
She married Rutledge Baker, who predeceased her. Mrs. Baker was a member of Stokesland Baptist Church and the Martha Bible Class. She was raised as a member of Oak Grove Moravian Church, Winston-Salem, N.C.. She worked at Danville Auto Auction and D & M Bus Company.
Survivors include one daughter, Pam Haymore of Danville; one son-in-law, Pat Haymore of Danville, and one sister, Virginia Amos of Winston-Salem, N.C.; two granddaugters and their husbands, Jerri and Eric Barber of Callands, and Lora and Tim Coeburn of Chatham; one grandson and his wife, Patrick and Kristin Haymore of Danville, and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Jerry Dean.
A funeral will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, from the graveside, with the Rev. John Hill officiating, and interment following in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at Barker Funeral Home on Friday from 7 to 8:30 p.m., and other times at the residence.
Barker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ernest Bennett

RINGGOLD, Va. - Ernest L. Bennett, 97, of 629 Ferguson Road, died on Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Mar. 7, 1902, in Ringgold, he was the son of William Hartwell Bennett and Martha Dodson Bennett.
He married Lucille Yates Jan. 27, 1927, who survives. He lived his entire life in the Ringgold Community and prior to his retirement was a tobacco farmer. He was a member of Ringgold Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, survivors include three sons, William V. Bennett of Black Mountain, N.C., John Bennett of Graham, N.C., and Walter E. Bennett of Danville; one daughter, Nancy Boyd of Ringgold; two sisters, Janie Myer of Ringgold, and Dorothy Dyer, of North Augusta, S.C.; 15 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by one daughter, Frances Evans, five brothers, two sisters, and one great granddaughter.
A funeral will be 3 p.m. Friday, at Ringgold Baptist Church with the Rev. Carl Burger officiating. Interment icon will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
The family received friends at Ringgold Baptist Church on Thursday from 7-8:30 p.m., and will receive friends at other times at the residence of his daughter, 2216 Ringgold Road.
Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Reuben Dalton

DANVILLE, Va. - Reuben William “Rube” Dalton, 67, of 245 Sedgefield Lane, died on Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000, in the Danville Regional Medical Center after three weeks of declining health and one day in the hospital.
Born Nov. 28, 1932, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Reuben Compton Dalton and Eva Adkins Dalton Kidd.
He married Beatrice Adkins Dalton, who survives. He lived most of his life in the Danville and Pittsylvania County area where he was employed with Wilson Construction Co. as a crane operator prior to his retirement. He was a member of Stateline Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, survivors include one daughter, Angela Dalton Wray of Ruffin, N.C., and three brothers, Jack E. Dalton, Carlton Dalton and Sammy Clay, all of Hurt.
He was predeceased by one brother, Benny Dalton.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday, at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with the Revs. Wayne Wallace and Hylton Lawrence officiating. Interment icon will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel on Saturday, from 7-8:30 p.m., and other times at the residence.

Therman Easley

SOUTH BOSTON, Va. -Therman Easley, 53, of 1415 Williams St., died on Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, at Halifax Regional Hospital in South Boston.
He was born Jan. 10, 1946, in Halifax County.
He married Eunice Easley, who survives.
In addition to his wife, survivors include six sisters, Nannie Edmondson and Betty Palmer of Halifax, Mary Easley, Linda Pitts, Dorothy Easley and Brenda Easley, all of Clinton, Md., and three brothers, Issac Easley Jr., Willie Easley and Larry Easley, all of Halifax.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday, at New Zion Baptist Church in Nathalie, with the Rev. Willie Yancey officiating. Interment icon will follow in the church cemetery.
There will be a viewing of the remains one hour prior to service.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Crawford, Garrett and Burton Funeral Services is in charge of arrangements.

Bernice Herndon

DRY FORK, Va. - Bernice Naomi Carter Herndon, 71, of 15908 Mount Cross Road, died on Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, of several months of declining health.
Born Feb. 8, 1928, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Charles Allen Carter and Nannie Ellen Hardy Carter.
She married Everett Eugene Herndon, who survives, on Nov. 28, 1946. Mrs. Herndon had lived all of her life in Pittsylvania County. She had retired after 30 years of service from Dan River Inc. where she had worked in the 1A & 1B Weave Rooms. She was a 65 year member of Bethlehem Baptist Church where she was a former choir director, a choir member and she had worked in the nursery.
In addition to her husband, survivors include four daughters and sons-in-law, Naomi and Randy Gibson; and Brenda and Alonza Edwards, both of Dry Fork, Pam and Billy Riggins of Chesapeake, and Nancy and Charles Walker of Danville; two brothers, Hardy Carter of Brosville, and Ralph Carter of Dry Fork; three sisters, Sue Merricks of Brosville, Helen Penland of Lehigh Acres, Fla., and Lois Scearce of Cocoa Beach, Fla., and nine grandchildren, Barry, Charlie and Damon Edwards, Amanda and Rand Gibson, April and James Riggins, and Gregg and Peyton Walker.
She was predeceased by four brothers, Joe Carter, Wilbur Carter, Reginald Randolph Carter, and John Edward Carter, and two sisters, Margaret Slaughter and Solona McCune.
A funeral will be Friday at 2:00 p.m. at the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel, with the Revs. J.B. Baldridge, Mike Hearp, and Malcolm Herndon officiating. Interment icon will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family received friends at the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel on Thursday, from 7-8:30 p.m., and will receive friends at other times at the residence of Brenda and Lonnie Edwards, 15988 Mount Cross Road.
Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.

Billy McGee

PENHOOK, Va. - Billy Gray NcGee, 67, died on Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, in the local hospital.
He married Annie McGee, who survives. He retired from Ross-Abbott Laboratories in Altavista with 14 and a half years of service.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include one son, Greg McGee of Charlotte, N.C., two stepdaughters, Sharon Cobb of Providence, N.C., and Judy Maness of Randleman, N.C.; two granddaughters and one step granddaughter; three brothers, Paul, Wade, and Chex McGee, all of Thomasville, N.C., and one sister, Mozelle Jones of Thomasville, N.C.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
A funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Flora Funeral Chapel, with interment following in Franklin Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends after 3 p.m. at Flora Funeral Service, Rocky Mount, with the family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m.
