Melba Cooper
KEELING, Va. - Melba Brice Cooper, 76, of 1913 Keeling Drive, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2000, at his residence after five years of declining health.
Born Jan. 18, 1923, in Unionsville, Mo., she was the daughter of Floyd S. Brice and Helen St. John Brice.
She married
Kenneth Ray Cooper Aug. 18, 1959, who survives.
She had lived in various states and countries, and traveled with her husband, who worked as an engineering geologist.
She had lived in Keeling since 1983.
She was of the Protestant faith.

Gilbert L. Gregg Jr.
ROSWELL, Ga. - Mr. Gilbert L. Gregg, Jr., of Roswell, Ga., died Friday, January 14, 2000. He attended Fork Union Military Academy and joined the Virginia State Guard in 1944, rising to the rank of Sergeant. In 1948, he joined the U.S. Army and graduated from Leadership School. He was assigned to “A” Company, 187th GIR in Sapporo and graduated jump school in Japan. He returned to the U.S. with the 11th Airborne Division. He later transferred to the newly activated “C” Company as a squad leader. He served in Korea with ARCT with the rank of SFC. He was a member of the 2nd Battalion, decorated for heroism for actions on February 12, 1951, was wounded in action on February 15, 1951, and achieved the rank of Field First Sergeant in Japan. Mr. Gregg was a former Vice-President of Great Atlantic Real Estate Company, a former co-pilot having later passed the Airline Transport Pilot’s test and promoted to Captain. He was later appointed Chief Pilot and Director of Flight Operations for Dan River Mills. He was a member of the NBAA Management Committee. Later, he was the Southeastern District Manager for Israeli Aircraft Industries. In 1982, Mr. Gregg founded Gregg and Associates, an aviation consulting company, and in 1984, founded and operated SeaGil Software Company, a computer firm specializing in Flight Department Management. He retired as Chairman of the company. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Natalie K. Gregg, his father, James Russo, his brother, Phillip Gregg, his sister, Faye Bishop, 7 sons, Daniel, Bartley, Frank, Dobye, James, Stephen, and Gilbert, 4 daughters, Karen, April, Susan, and Rebecca, 18 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, Zachary Brooke. Memorial services will be held Monday, January 17, 2000, at 2 p.m., at the Northside Funeral Home in Roswell. Burial will take place at Arlington National cemetery in Washington, D.C. at a later date. William Hudson
VIRGILINA, Va. - William Jordan Hudson, 78, of 2229 Hudson Road, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2000, at his home.
Born Dec. 24, 1921, in Halifax County, he was the son of James William Hudson and Naomi Wilborn Hudson.
A tobacco farmer, he was a member of North Fork Baptist Church.
He was also a member of the China Marines and the Marines, and served in WWII.
Survivors include one sister, Doris E. Hudson of Virgilina, and one brother, Charles K. Hudson of Richmond.
He was predeceased by three sisters, Mary Alice Hudson Arrington, Ruth Hudson and Clarice P. Hudson.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at North Fork Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bill LaWall officiating. Interment
will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Rison Rowland
GRETNA, Va. - Rison Earnest Rowland, 87, of East Gretna Road, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000, in Virginia Baptist Hospital.
Born Feb. 21, 1912, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of John Henry Rowland and Virginia Pugh Rowland.
He was a member of Greenfield Baptist Church, a retired electrician and farmer.
Survivors include one son, Donnie Rowland of Gretna; two daughters, Carolyn Mazyck of North Charleston, S.C., and Phyllis Brumfield of Richmond; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was predeceased by three brothers, Odie Rowland, Woodrow Rowland, and Paul Rowland.
A graveside funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday, at Greenfield Baptist Church cemetery, with the Rev. R.G. Rowland officiating.
The family will receive friends Sunday, 7-8:30 p.m. at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home, and other times at the residence of Donnie Rowland, 2921 East Gretna Road.
Recie Stone
ALTAVISTA, Va. - Recie Ella Ward Stone, 77, of 1015 Park St., died Friday, Jan. 14, 2000, at Carilion Bedford Memorial Hospital.
Born May 30, 1922, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of John Ward and Lelia Ward.
She married
William Stover Stone, who predeceased her.
She was a housekeeper prior to retirement, and was a member of Staunton Baptist Church.
Survivors include four daughters, Mary Ann Farmer and Shirley Temple Gilbert of Wilmington, Del., Jeanette Gilbery of Hurt, and Geraldine Gilbert of Altavista; two step sons, Arbie Stone of Lynch Station and June Stone of Nathalie; 24 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and seven great great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Staunton Baptist Church with Dr. P.A. Medley officiating. Interment
will follow in the church cemetery.

Carolyn Craft
COLLINSVILLE, Va. - Carolyn Craft, 40, of 67 Kennedy Way, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000, at the Medical College of Virginia Hospital.
Born Aug. 15, 1959, in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of Willie Craft and Mollie Inge Craft-Davis.
She married
Charles Price I, who survives. She was a member of Jerusalem Christian Church, where she served as the assistant church clerk, a Sunday school teacher and the chairman of the school mentoring program. She was also a member of the church newsletter staff and the scholarship program committee.
She was also a member of the American Heart Association, the booster’s club, the 4-H Volunteer Leader’s Association, VEA and NEA.
She was a 1977 graduate of Chatham High School and a 1980 graduate of Longwood College. She was retired from Henry County Public Schools.
In addition to her husband, survivors include one daughter, Briana Price of the residence; two sons, Charles Price II and Darris Price, both of the residence; one sister, Sandra Green of Upper Marlboro, Md.; and one brother, Wardell Davis of Trenton, N.J.
She was predeceased by her paternal grandparents, Roosevelt and Geraldine Craft, and maternal grandparents, Waverly and Nannie Inge.
A funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Jerusalem Christian Church with the Rev. Eugene Reynolds officiating. Interment
will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will recieve friends at Jerusalem Christian Church Tuesday, 7-8 p.m., and other times at the residence.

Ethel Dalton
GRETNA, Va. - Ethel “Fat” Doss Dalton, age 82, of Cotton Patch Road, Gretna died Sunday, January 16, 2000 in Rocky Mount.
Born August 26, 1917 in Pittsylvania County she was a daughter of the late Lundy Doss and Mary Hardy Doss. Mrs. Dalton was predeceased by her husband, Roy Lee Dalton, a son, Kenneth Lee Dalton, a brother Harold Doss and a granddaughter Melissa Dalton. She was a homemaker and farmer.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Sharon Dalton of Gretna; five brothers, Reuben Doss Sr., Leroy Doss, Frank Doss and William Doss all of Gretna and Raymond Doss of Danville; four sisters, Mary Jane Collins, Bernice Owens, and Shirley Mills all of Gretna and Irene Floyd of Hopewell, 3 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 18, 2000 at the Carl O. Moran Memorial Garden by the Rev. R.G. Rowland.
The family will receive friends Monday evening from 7-8:30 p.m. at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times at the residence of her son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Sharon Dalton, 289 Cotton Patch Road, Gretna.

Diane Traylor Henry
ROANOKE, Va. - Diane Traylor Henry, 62, of 4435 Pheasant Ridge Road, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2000, at her residence.
Mrs. Henry was the daughter of Robert Woodrow Traylor and Nell Adams Traylor.
Mrs. Henry was active as a teacher and choir member in several churches throughout Virginia where her husband pastored. She received The Tidewater Multiple Sclerosis Citation of Merit for distinguished service to Americans who suffer multiple sclerosis in 1979. She received a certificate from the University of St. Andrews, Scotland, for completion of a course of study in theology in 1985.
Mrs. Henry is survived by her husband, David L. Henry, her daughters Vicki Gibowski of Pensacola, FL, and Debbie Hart of Roanoke; sons-in-law Steve Gibowski and Church Hart; grandsons Brian, David, Eric, and granddaughter, Jessica. She is also survived by a brother Robert Woodrow Traylor Jr. of Ashburn, VA and sister Linda Pagel of Mt. Laurel, NJ.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Monday, January 17, 2000, at Kentuck Baptist Church, Ringgold, with the Rev. Harvey Skinner of Front Royal, Dr. Felton Carter of Danville and Dr. Jeff Scott of Roanoke.
Estelle “Tody” Stewart
DANVILLE, Va. - Estelle C. Stewart of 115 Ridgeway Dr., departed this life on January 14, 2000 at the age of 95.
She was born the daughter of Lillie Thomas and Charlie Coleman August 2, 1904 in Danville, VA. She attended the public schools in Danville, VA. and in Bluefield, W.VA.
On October 11, 1921 she married
Charles H. Stewart who predeceased her. They had one son, Harvey L. Stewart, who now resides in Riviera Beach, Florida.
She was a faithful member of Christ Temple Apostolic Church and served in various capacities over 50 years.
In addition to her son, she is survived by a grand-daughter, Diane S. Clements of the home, a grand-son Charles H. Stewart II, of Richland, Washington, one great grand-daughter Angela A. Clements of the home, one great grand-son Diron C. Clements of the home, and two great grand-sons Bryce and Travis Stewart of Richland, Washington.
Funeral services for Mrs. Stewart will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Christ Temple Apostolic with the Bishop Robert Tappen Officiating.
The Interment
will follow in the Oak Hill cemetery.
The remains rest at the L.H. Brooks & Bro. Funeral Home and the Family is at the residence of Diane S. Clements, 115 Ridgeway Drive.
Rebecca Tomlin
DANVILLE, Va. - Rebecca Harmon Tomlin, 88, formerly of 227 East Thomas St., died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2000, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home, after six years of declining health.
Born Oct. 21, 1911, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Frank Harmon and Mary Custer Harmon Brooks.
She married
Ollie L. Tomlin, who predeceased her on Aug. 6, 1961. She had lived her life in the Danville and Pittsylvania County area.
She was a member of Westover Baptist Church and a former member of Temple Baptist Church.
Survivors include five daughters, Pauline T. Poovey of Ringgold; Lorene T. Hawkins of Hartford, Ky.; Jackie Tomlin of Los Gatos, Ca.; and Gracie T. Reed and Jeroline Tomlin, both of Danville; two sons, Claude Tomlin of Marino Valley, Ca., and Jesse Tomlin of Danville; 17 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the residence of Pauline Poovey, 605 Albert Edmonds Dr., Ringgold.
