Samuel Wagstaff
DANVILLE, Va. - Samuel Allen Wagstaff, 83, of 731 Memorial Drive, Apt. 3, died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2000, at his residence.
Born Dec. 11, 1916, in North Carolina, he was the son of Allen Wagstaff and Fannie Betts Wagstaff.
He spent his entire life in Danville and was self-employed.
Survivors include one sister, Elizabeth Gwynn of New York.
A funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Chapel of Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home with the Rev. James Stewart officiating. Interment
will follow in Oak Hill cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Elizabeth Woodson
DANVILLE, Va. - Elizabeth McKinney Woodson, 76, of 573 West Witt Road, died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born March 17, 1923, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Charlie McKinney and Sally Grant McKinney.
She married
George Washington Woodson, who predeceased her Sept. 18, 1967.
She lived all her life in Pittsylvania County.
She retired from Dan River, Inc. with over 15 years of service in the #1 Weave Room of the Schoolfield Division.
She was a member of the Mount Hermon Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, David A. Woodson of Pelham, N.C.; seven daughters, Patricia W. Green, Faye W. Mackiewicz, Brenda W. Breeden and Sue W. Phillippi, all of Danville, Frances W. Redd of Blairs, Mildred W. Reynolds of Chatham and Jean W. Swider of Crown Point, Ind.; 22 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with the Rev. Billy Scearce officiating. Interment
will follow in Highland Burial Park.
The family received friends Friday from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel and will recieve friends at other times at the residence.
Olanda Clark
DANVILLE, Va. - Doctor Olanda Clark, 70, of 519 Shelton St., died Friday, Jan. 21, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Nov. 1, 1929, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Willie Clark and Hattie Clark.
He married
Leonia Price Clark, who predeceased him.
He was a laborer with a moving company.
Survivors include one son, Allen Price of Baltimore; three daughters, Delores Clark-Watson, Denise Clark-Keys and Jettie Clark, all of Baltimore; three sisters, Mamie Jackson and Pearl Mayfield, both of Danville, and Alberta Parker of Baltimore.
A funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday at Cunningham and Hughes Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Edward Pope officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery.
The family will receive friends 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and at other times at the residence of Mamie Jackson, 170 Grace St.
Rebecca Dodson
RINGGOLD, Va. - Rebecca Maude Neal Dodson, 96, of 2277 Ringgold Church Road, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000, at her residence after several years of declining health.
Born July 14, 1903, in Danville, she was the daughter of Courtney Neal and Rebecca Fitzgerald Neal.
She was married
to Harvey L. Dodson, who predeceased her July 13, 1975.
She spent most of her life in the Ringgold community and was a member of Kentuck Baptist Church. She was a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.
Survivors include two sons, James H. Dodson Sr. of Ringgold and Robert W. Dodson of LaGange, Ga.; three daughters, Marjorie D. Rice and Betty D. Schiedel, both of Danville, and Rebecca Blanch Dodson of Siler City, N.C.; 13 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by one son, Gerald M. Dodson; one brother, Samuel S. Neal; one sister, Annie Elizabeth Robertson, and one grandchild, Harvey E. Rice.
A funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday at Wrenn Yeatts North Main Chapel, with the Rev. Dr. Felton S. Carter and the Rev. Carl E. Burger officiating. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.

Jimmy Gilbert
MARTINSVILLE, Va. - Jimmy Langhorne Gilbert, 66, of 200 Major Court, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000, at The Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County.
Born Aug. 25, 1933, in Keeling, he was the son of Grover Gilbert and Ellen Cox Gilbert Reynolds.
He was a veteran of the United States Army and worked as a stable caretaker until his decline in health.
Survivors include two sisters, Nellie Lancaster of Danville and Arlene Netzer of Silver Springs, Md.
He was predeceased by one sister, Blanch Ricketts; and one brother, Jesse Gilbert.
A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Schoolfield cemetery, with the Rev. Albert Moser and the Rev. Jack Robertson officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Memorial Post No. 325 honor guard.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Hattie Hall
ROANOKE, Va. - Hattie Basham Hall, 84, died Friday, Jan. 21, 2000, in the Roanoke Hospital.
Born Aug. 25, 1915, in Franklin County, Va., she was the daughter of William Edward Basham and Florence Cundiff Basham.
She was married
to Everett Hall, who predeceased her June 17, 1993.
She was a former resident of Danville, and in her later years had been a resident of Vinton, Va., where she was a member of Lynn Haven Baptist Church.
Survivors include six sisters, Kathleen B. Murphy, Marie B. Martin, Ruth B. Daniels and Beatrice B. Walker, all of Danville, Sallie B. Moore of Bedford and LouElla B. Wood of Vinton, Va.
A funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Oakey’s Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mountain View cemetery, Vinton.
The family will receive friends 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Janie Ingram
NATHALIE, Va. - Janie Anderson Ingram, 91, of 1158 Dr. Merritt Road, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000, at her residence.
Born June 15, 1908, in Halifax County, Va., she was the daughter of Lee Anderson and Lottie Paulina Guthrie Anderson.
She married
Charlie Phillip Ingram.
She was a member of Catawba Baptist Church and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Survivors include one niece Lois Anderson; and one nephew Weldon Anderson.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Catawba Baptist Church with the Rev. Ed Griffin and the Rev. Joseph Glass officiating. Burial will be in church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday at Powell Funeral Home.
Blanche McCormick
DANVILLE, Va. - Blanche Hale McCormick, 81, of 231 South Ridge St., Apt. 122, died Friday, Jan. 21, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center. She had been in the hospital for 2 1/2 days and in declining health for several years.
Born Feb. 13, 1918, in Roanoke County, Va., she was the daughter of Nathaniel Hale and Martha Stump Hale.
She was married
July 1, 1944, to Murphy N. McCormick, who died in September of 1992.
She moved to Danville in 1925, and was employed at Dan River Inc. prior to her retirement. She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include one son, George Lee Crowder III of Richmond; one daughter, Linda McCormick Springer of Arnold, Fla.; one sister Mattie Webb of Danville; four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Wilson Hale and William Hale; and two sisters, Mary Stump and Nellie Hall.
An funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Danville Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, with the Rev. Jack Robertson officiating. Entombment will be at Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 11 a.m. to noon Monday at Wrenn Yeatts North Main Chapel and at other times at the residence.
Annie Mitchell
ALEXANDRIA, Va. - Annie Armintra Allen Mitchell, 84, died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2000, at INOVA Alexandria Hospital. She resided at Integrated Health Services Nursing Facility in Alexandria for 10 months, followed by a lengthy stay in the hospital.
Born July 29, 1915, in Blanch, N.C., she was the daughter of Albert Allen and Mittie Lipscomb Allen.
She was married
to Lorenza Edward Mitchell Jr., who predeceased her Feb. 5, 1986.
She was a life-long resident of Danville, where she was a homemaker and mother. She worked outside the home for many years at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Danville.
She was an active member of Loyal Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Usher Board, Galeda Class and Kitchen Club. She was Daughter of Elks and participated widely in the Ushers’ Union of Danville and vicinity. She was president of ladies auxiliary of VFW Post No. 644 and a member of the YWCA.
Survivors include one daughter, Annette Mitchell of Woodbridge; three sons, Allen S. Mitchell of Marietta, Ga., Larry E. Mitchell of Bel Camp, Md., and Curtis Wayne Mitchell of Woodbridge; one brother, George Allen of Roxboro, N.C.; two sisters, Glenda Allen of Richmond and Mary Allen of Blanch, N.C.; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A viewing will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Cunningham and Hughes Funeral Home. The family will receive friends 4-6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
A funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Loyal Baptist Church. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memory Garden.
Laura Saunders
RINGGOLD, Va. - Laura Marie Hairston Saunders, 66, of 3660 Birch Creek Road, died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born April 24, 1933, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Robert Hairston and Laura M. Wheeler Hairston Lampkin.
She was married
to Percy R. Saunders, who predeceased her. She was a member of the Kentuck Missionary Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and was employed with P. Lorillard Tobacco Co. prior to her retirement.
Survivors include three daughters, Jean S. Womack of Danville, Angelia Saunders-Tyler of Silver Springs, Md., and Teresa Gail Saunders Hackett of Germantown, Md.; three sons, Michael R. Saunders of Blairs, R. Wayne Saunders of Richmond, and Randy W. Saunders of the residence; five sisters, Garnetta Inge and Barbara Hampton, both of Axton, Florence Dillard, Lorine Brim, and Elizabeth Broadnax, all of Eden, N.C., and two brothers, Robert Lee Hairston and Ophus Lampkin, both of Philadelphia.
A funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Kentuck Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jesse Fitz officiating. Burial will be in the Saunders Family cemetery.
