Mary Griffin
DANVILLE, Va. - Mary Virginia Gravely Griffin, 84, of 1111 Main St. died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000.
Born Feb. 24, 1915, in Danville, she was a daughter of Benjamin Flippen Gravely and Mary Bell Woodall Gravely.
She was married
to Raymond W. Griffin on April 30, 1946.
She was a graduate of G.W. High School in 1933. She resided in Richmond for 50 years, returning to Danville in October 1999. She was retired from the U.S. Postal Service, where she was a supervisor in the budget department.
She was a charter member of West End Christian Church in Danville and Bethany Christian Church in Richmond. She was past president of the Young at Heart Club at Bethany church, and also a member of the Village Garden club.
In addition to her husband, survivors include two sisters, Hazel G. Rollins of Danville and Dorothy G. Taylor of Richmond.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Benjamin W. Gravely and the Rev. Carroll F. Gravely; and two sisters, Kate G. Ford and Janie G. Baity.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Townes Memorial Chapel with Dr. H.W. Westbrook and the Rev. June Hughes officiating. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
Lottie Guill
BLAIRS, Va. - Lottie Hodnett Guill, 91, formerly of Lawless Creek Road, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home after one and a half years of declining health.
Born Oct. 13, 1908, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of William D. Hodnett and Callie Lewis Hodnett.
She was married
to Willie Jeffries Guill on Dec. 17, 1925, who predeceased her on Feb. 5, 1962. She had spent most of her life in the Blairs Community. She was a member of the Blairs Baptist Church.
Survivors include four sons, Willie Junior Guill of Ringgold, Herbert Hodnett Guill and Horace Lee Guill, both of Danville, and Richard Neal Guill of Blairs; one daughter, Margaret G. Guill of Providence, N.C.; one half brother, Edward Hodnett of Danville; 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by one sister, Vivian H. Guill.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. Jonathan Reed officiating. Interment
will be at the Guill Family cemetery in Blairs.
The family will receive friends Wednesday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel from 7:30-8:30 p.m., and other times at the residence of Richard Guill, 168 Lawless Creek Road.
Peggy Haley
CASCADE, Va. - Peggy Kendrick Haley, 60, of 4941 Whispering Pines Road, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born May 5, 1939 in the Sandy River community of Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Claude Kendrick and Nora Amos Kendrick.
She was married
to James Lee Haley, who predeceased her on Nov. 10, 1987. She attended Whitmell High School and spent most of her life in the Brosville community.
She worked for Dan River Inc. for 27 years before retiring on disability, and was of the Pentecostal Holiness faith.
Survivors include 2 sons, Barry Lee Haley of Brosville and Elton Todd Haley of Greensboro, N.C.; three sisters, Norma Cousins of Dry Fork, Omie Herndon of Tennessee and Nonie Jennings of High Point, N.C.; three brothers, Earl Kendrick of Chatham, Billy Kendrick of Reidsville, N.C., and Bonar Kendrick of Petersburg, and three grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Geraldine Harris
DANVILLE, Va. - Geraldine Silverstri Barnett Harris, 56, of 1712 Aspen St., died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Dec. 15, 1943, in Danville, she was the daughter of Tony Silverstri and Mary Lou Sasser McNeil.
She was married
to Bobby R. Harris, who survives, on Aug. 12, 1989. She worked for the Danville Register & Bee as district manager of the circulation department. She lived most of her life in Danville and was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include one daughter, Marilu Lamothe of Danville; four step daughters, Tammy Brookman, Bonnie Dykes, Pattie Miller and Amy Harris, all of Danville; one brother, Steven McNeil of Greensboro, N.C., and eight grandchildren.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. Larry Hill officiating. Interment
will be at Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends Thursday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel, from 7:30-8:30 p.m., and other times at the residence.
Bonnie Hogan
JAVA, Va. - Bonnie Bray Hogan, 39, of 2353 Riceville Road, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born July 28, 1960, in Danville, she was the daughter of the late James O. Bray and Shirley Clark Bray, who survives.
She was married
to Johnny M. Hogan, who survives. She lived most of her life in Danville, and was employed by Merry Maids. She had also worked for The Parts Place and the former Old 97 Restaurant. She was a member of the Blessed Hope Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband of the residence and her mother of Danville, survivors include two children, Tara Moser of the residence, and Aaron Moser of Danville; three step children, Leslie Hogan of Java, and Amanda Hogan and Matt Hogan of the residence; one brother, Johnny Bray of Danville; two sisters, Diane Burch and Christine Bray, both of Danville, and one step grandchild.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Blessed Hope Baptist Church, with the Rev. Brian Edwards officiating. Interment
will be at Schoolfield cemetery.
The family received friends Tuesday, from 7:30-8:30 p.m. at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel, and other times at the residence and the residence of her mother, 199 Scearcy St.
Hope Milam
HALIFAX, Va. - Hope Clay Milam, 31, of 2510 Salishan Drive, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2000, at Duke University Medical Center.
Born March 21, 1968, in Cambell County, she was the daughter of Willie Marvin Clay and Betty Moore Clay, who survive.
She was married
to Steve Milam, who survives. She worked as inside sales supervisor at Lasco Bathware. She was a member of Second Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents of South Boston and her husband of Halifax, survivors include one daughter, Lauren Hope Milam of Halifax, and one sister, Robin Clay Boelte of Rustburg.
A funeral will be at Second Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Smith officiating. Interment
will be in Oak Ridge cemetery.

Patricia Setliff
DANVILLE, Va. - Patricia Luther Setliff, 59, of 837 Stokesland Ave., died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000, at her residence after one year of declining health.
Born May 29, 1940, in Danville, she was the daughter of Carl Luther and Ila Pugh Luther McDowell.
She was married
to Rufus Lee Setliff, who survives.
She lived in various parts of the world while traveling with her husband during his military career. She had lived in Danville for the past 12 years. She was a homemaker and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include two sons, Lee Setliff and Anthony Setliff, both of the residence; one daughter, Lynn Bernardo of Chicago; one brother, Robert McDowell of Danville; and five grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. J. Richard Markham officiating. Interment
will follow at Mountain View cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Mary Blanche Tinsley
DANVILLE, Va. - Mary Blanche Tinsley, age 104, died January 24, 2000. She had a lifetime career in nursing: first in private duty nursing, upon her graduation in the 1920’s from the Stuart Circle Hospital School of Nursing in Richmond, VA; then in public nursing in southwest Virginia and in the Richmond Public Schools. She retired to the Tinsley family home on Franklin Turnpike in Danville, VA and was admitted to the Roman Eagle Nursing Home in December 1988, following a fall.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Christina Tinsley and Lavallette T. Woody and her brothers, Luther Judson Tinsley, Calvin W. Tinsley and Dr. Harold D. Tinsley.
She is survived by her niece, Margaret Tinsley Tait of Hollywood, FL, her nephew, C.W. Tinsley, Jr. of Miami, FL, her niece, Katharyn Sager, of North Carolina, her nephew, Richard Sager, of Atlanta, GA, her cousin, Laila W. Pearsall of Richmond, VA and numerous other cousins.
Wrenn-Yeatts, Westover Chapel is in charge of arrangements, which are incomplete at this time. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations to the Mount Hermon Baptist Church, 4385 Franklin Turnpike Danville, VA 24540.
Clyde Travis
DANVILLE, Va. - Clyde David Travis, 62, of 38 Hylton Ave., died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center after several years of declining health.
Born Oct. 8, 1937, in Danville, he was a son of Wesley Travis and Thelma Booth Travis.
He was married
to Carole Coleman Travis.
He was a veteran of the Army, serving from 1960-63. He lived most of his life in Danville, where he was retired from Associated Services Inc.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include two sons, Clyde David Travis Jr. of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Randy Travis of Danville; one daughter, Dianna Travis Martin of Greenville, S.C.; one sister, Marie T. Martin of Danville; and six grandchildren.
A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Highland Burial Park, with the Rev. Ralph McCormack officiating. Military honors will be performed by the American Legion Post 1097 Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

John Whitehead
LANDOVER, Md. - John Leroy Whitehead, 60, of 1925 Palmer Park Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2000, at Prince George Chevely General Hospital.
Born March 20, 1939, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of the late Farist Whitehead and Hester Carter Whitehead, who survives.
He was married
to Maggie Swann, who also survives.
He was employed with Trailways Bus Station in Washington, D.C. prior to his retirement on disability.
In addition to his mother of Blairs, and wife of Landover, survivors include four daughters, Roslyn Budd, Albertina Swann and Justine Swann, all of Landover, Md., and Vickie Hope of Washington; one son, Michael Whitehead of Oxford Hills, Md.; two sisters, Mary Anderson and Patricia Stephens, both of Blairs and numerous grandchildren.
A graveside service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Greater Triumph Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Edward L. Pope officiating.
The family will receive friends at the residence of his mother, 2109 Malmaison Road, Blairs.
