Everette Cash
DANVILLE, Va. - Everette Earl Cash, 89, of 110 Clarendon Circle, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born July 14, 1910, in Danville, he was the son of Carrington Cash and Novella Weatherford Cash.
He was married
to Frances Skinner Cash, who predeceased him.
He was a U.S. Army National Guard veteran. He lived his entire life in Danville where he was a former manager of Auto Specialty and was formerly associated with Motor Parts & Equipment Company before retiring. He was a lifelong circus fan and a member of Circus Fans of America and Circus Historical Association. He frequently lectured on circus history in colleges and high schools. He was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include one son, Peter F. Cash of Brentwood, Tenn.; two sisters, Hazel Baccary and Loretta Dallas, both of Danville; three grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jack Heinsohn Jr. officiating. Interment
will follow at Mountain View cemetery.
The family received friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Swicegood Funeral Home.
Edna Frankel
DANVILLE, Va. - Edna W. LeBof Kahn Frankel, 96, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, at Stratford Health Care Center.
Born Jan. 18, 1904, in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was the daughter of Jacob Weiner and Sarah Levine Weiner.
She was a graduate of Erasmus High School in Brooklyn, N.Y., and had been a resident of Danville for six years.
Survivors include one daughter, Joan Newman of Danville; one son, Marvin LeBof of New York; one brother, Milton Weiner of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held in New York.
Townes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Floyd Hanks
KEELING, Va. - Floyd Edward Hanks, 71, of 1661 Birch Creek Road died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born April 23, 1928, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Cellis Morman Hanks and Lillie Fielder Hanks.
He was married
to Juanita Brumfield Hanks, who survives. He owned and operated Floyd Hanks Home Improvements and was a cattle farmer. He was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, E. Gary Hanks and Brian Keith Hanks, both of Keeling; two sisters, Carolyn H. Burnett of Danville, and Margie H. Lucas of Gordonsville, and two grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by seven brothers and eight sisters.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Barker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Herman Absher officiating. Interment
will be at Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Roger Keaton
DANVILLE, Va. - Roger Lee Keaton, 61, of 419 Arlington Road, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000, at his residence after several years of declining health.
Born May 26, 1938, in Danville, he was a son of Reid Keaton and Glenna Flint Keaton.
He was married
to Nancy Hoskins Keaton, who survives.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army in the Airborne division. He spent most of his life in Danville where he was a retired fireman for the city of Danville and later worked part time at Sears. He was a member of Burton Memorial Presbyterian Church.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Roger Lee Keaton II of Chatham and Mark J. Keaton of San Antonio; two daughters, Susan Gray-Bowman and Cheryl Wyatt, both of Alexandria; one brother, Michael Keaton of Stoneville, N.C., and 10 grandchildren.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Jerry and Danny Keaton.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Swicegood Funeral Home with the Rev. Ralph McCormack, Rev. Daryl Joyce, and Minister Dean Ashby officiating. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park.

Virginia Mathewson
DANVILLE, Va. - Virginia Roberts Mathewson, 88, of 125 Lady Astor St., died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 12, 1911, in Danville, she was a daughter of R.B. Roberts and Grace Land Roberts.
She was married
to James Ray Mathewson, who predeceased her in 1971. She was a nurse and a member of the Wednesday Club. She was also a member of the Danville Museum of Fine Arts and History, the Ladies Benevolent Society, and was an active member of First Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the choir.
Survivors include three sons, Jeremiah Mathewson of Wilson, N.C., James Ray Mathewson Jr. of Apex, N.C., and Thomas L. Mathewson of Danville; one daughter, Charlotte Mathewson Knoke of Sommerville, N.J.; one brother, R.B. Roberts Jr. of New Smyrna Beach, Fla; one sister, Louise Chapman of Virginia Beach; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jack Heinsohn officiating. Interment
will be in Mountain View cemetery.

Jessie “Dude” Bernard Robertson
CHATHAM, Va. - Jessie “Dude” Bernard Robertson, 71, of Chatham, died Feb. 2, 2000 at the Virginia Baptist Hospital. He was the widower of Katherine Harris Robertson.
Born April 6, 1928, in Lynchburg he was the son of John Ennis Robertson & Carrie Lee Campbell. He was a veteran of the Korean War & a retired truck driver.
He was preceded in death by a son, Joey.
He is survived by two daughters, Kathy R. Stone, and her husband William (Bill) of Altavista & Janet L. Robertson of Lynchburg. Three sisters Gertrude Riley of Evington, Corrine Rush of Lynchburg & Carrie Lee Whitmore of Newport News & four grandchildren: David B. Robertson of Danville, Lee Stone & Samantha Stone, both of Altavista & John Stone of Concord.
A funeral service will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. at Diuguid Waterlick Chapel followed by interment at Virginia Memorial Park. The family will receive friends tonight from 7-8:30 p.m. at Diuguid Waterlick Chapel.

GREENVILLE, S.C. - Geraldine Gentry Springs, 71, formerly of Westminister Place and Kathryan Court died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000.
Born in Pensacola, Fla., she was a daughter of Harold and Vallie Busbee Gentry.
She was married
to Warren D. Springs, who predeceased her. She was a graduate of Bob Jones University and was a clerk for Greenville County Tax Assessor. She was a member of Hampton Park Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Sylvia Ward of Ohio; one son, Warren Allen of Danville, Va.; one sister, Selita Hoffman of Greenville; one brother, Harold Lee (Buddy) Gentry of Arlington, Texas, and four grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home chapel. Burial will be at Graceland cemetery, West.

Shirley Christine Waller
DANVILLE, Va. - Shirley Christine Waller, 71, of 174 White Street died Monday, January 31, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center after several months of declining health.
Mrs. Waller was born July 5, 1928 in Pittsylvania County. She was the daughter of Irene W. Ash and the late Elder Alphonzo Clark. She was the step-daughter of the late James L. Ash. She was married
to Jessie J. Waller, who predeceased her. She was a faithful member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church where she served as a Deaconess.
In addition to her mother, Irene Ash, of Danville, she is survived by four sons, Jessie J. Waller, Jr. of the residence, Lawrence Clark, Varry Clark and Aubrey Wilson, all of Danville, three daughters-in-law, Diane Waller of the residence, Patsy Clark, and Jane Wilson, six grandchildren, Jessica Waller of the residence, Timothy Clark, Valerie Clark, LaToya Clark, Tony Clark and Darryll Jones, three brothers, Alphonso Clark of San Francisco, CA, Charlie Clark of Washington, D.C., William Clark of Madison Heights, VA, eight sisters, Phyllis L. Banks, Betty Washington, and Gaynell Hicks, all of Washington, D.C., Frances L. Clark, Jean M. Lewis, Geraldine Jones, Dorothy Fleming, and Juanita Jefferson, all of Lynchburg, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

MARTINSVILLE, Va. - Mable R. Bowles, 89, of 300 Blue Ridge St., died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2000, at Blue Ridge Rehab Center.
Born April 30, 1910, in Henry County, he was a son of S.G.T. (Buck) Riddle and Pearl Martin Riddle.
She was married
to George I. Bowles, who predeceased her. She was retired from Dan River Mills.
Survivors include four daughters, Louise White of Martinsville, Janie Adkins of Danville, Nancy Adkins of Rustburg, and Marie Hundley of Axton; two sons, George Everett Bowles of Axton and Melvin William Bowles of Bonnes Mill; 24 grandchildren, two step grandchildren, 51 great grandchildren, six step great-great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by three brothers and one sister.

Winifred Crabtree
HALIFAX, Va. - Winifred Lester Crabtree, 88, of 3170 James D. Hagood Highway, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born Nov. 22, 1911, in Halifax County, she was a daughter of John Thomas Lester Sr. and Mamie Dickens Lester.
She was married
to William Pender Crabtree, who predeceased her. She was a member of Halifax United Methodist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Frances H. Ligon of South Boston; one son, Horace Lester Heath of Clarksville; two brothers, John Thomas Lester Jr. of South Boston and James E. Lester of Columbus, Ga.; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Frances Dunn
DANVILLE, Va. - Frances Burton Dunn, 81, of 316 Guilford St., died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center after declining health of one year and a one-day stay in the hospital.
Born Oct. 22, 1918, in the Milton community of Caswell County, she was a daughter of J.J. Burton and Magnolia Yarbrough Burton.
She was married
to Emmit Judson Dunn on Dec. 31, 1942. He predeceased her in March 1957. She had lived all of her life in Caswell County and Danville. She was a graduate of the former Archybald Murphy School and was retired from the former Belk-Leggett Company where she had worked in sales for 30 years. She was a member fo the Woodberry Hills Baptist Church and was a member of the Senior Citizens where she was an avid card player.
Survivors include one son, Donald K. Dunn of Milton, N.C.; two brothers, Jessy W. Burton and Bruce R. Burton, both of Danville; three grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Revs. Lewis Harris and James McGhee officiating. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
