Ollie Gregory
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Ollie Mae Linkous Gregory, 86, of 2001 Wolf Trap Road, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000, at her home.
Born April 17, 1913, in Rocky Gap, she was a daughter of James Miller Linkous and Sally Bell Stowers Linkous.
She was married
to John Higginbotham Gregory, who predeceased her. She was a retired school teacher from Rocky Gap Elementary School of the Bland County School System after 34 years.
Survivors include two sons, John Richard Gregory of South Boston and James Edison Gregory of Salem; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by one brother, Edison Davis Linkous.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Oak Ridge cemetery with the Revs. Jerrel Good and Jack Stewart officiating.
The family will receive friends from 7:30-9 p.m. Sunday at Powell Funeral Home, and other times at the residence.
Jerry Rigney
MARTINSVILLE, Va. - Jerry Greenwood Rigney, 42, of Applewood Road, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000, in Bassett.
Born July 22, 1957, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Billy G. Rigney and Alice Harris Rigney, who survives.
He was a member of Oak Ridge Christian Church and employed with High Point Sprinklers.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by one brother, Carey Rigney of Chatham; one step daughter, Amanda Hedrick of Chatham, and a maternal grandmother, Mabel Harris of Hurt.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Scott Funeral Home Chapel. Interment
will be in Oak Ridge Christian Church cemetery in Callands.
The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Sunday at Scott Funeral Home and other times at the residence of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Billy Rigney, 6341 Sago Road, Chatham.
Azree Taylor
PHILADELPHIA - Azree B. Kennedy Taylor, 80, of 1222 N. Alison St., died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital.
Born Jan. 2, 1920, in Great Falls, S.C., she was the daughter of Nealis Beatty and Sarah Beatty.
She was married
to David Taylor, who predeceased her.
Survivors include three daughters, Penny Giggetts of Philadelphia, Mildred Inge of Washington, and Isabelle Kennedy of Danville, and two sons, Robert Kennedy Jr. and Joseph Kennedy, both of Danville.
A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Chapel of Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home with the Rev. Thomas Brooks officiating. Interment
will be in Oak Hill cemetery.
The family will receive friends at 420 Van Buren St., and 869 Stokes St.

Lona Thornton
GRETNA, Va. - Lona Martin Thornton, 64, of 24068 US Highway 29, Gretna died Tuesday, February 1, 2000, in Duke University Medical Center.
Born March 17, 1935, in Henry County she was a daughter of the late Roy Bernard Martin and Minnie Ada Martin. She was predeceased by two sisters, Ruth Deal and Elizabeth Martin. Mrs. Thornton was a home maker and of the Holiness faith.
She is survived by her husband, James T. Thornton of the residence; a daughter, Carolyn Jacobs of Hurt; one brother, John Douglas Martin of Martinsville; two sisters, Margaret Blair of Martinsville and Gracie Moore of Bassett; two grandchildren, William Thomas Hedrick and Carla Beth Hedrick and a numerous extended family.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 4, 2000 at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Rev. James Tallent. Burial will follow in Highland Burial Park.
The family received friends Thursday evening, 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times at the residence, 24068 US Highway 29, Gretna.

Mary Blanche Tinsley
DANVILLE, Va. - Mary Blanche Tinsley, age 104, died January 24, 2000. She had a lifetime career in nursing: first in private duty nursing, upon her graduation in the 1920’s from the Stuart Circle Hospital School of Nursing in Richmond, VA; then in public nursing in southwest Virginia and in the Richmond Public Schools. She retired to the Tinsley family home on Franklin Turnpike in Danville, VA and was admitted to the Roman Eagle Nursing Home in December 1988, following a fall. She was a member of the Mount Hermon Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Christina Tinsley and Lavallette T. Woody and her brothers, Luther Judson Tinsley, Calvin W. Tinsley and Dr. Harold D. Tinsley.
She is survived by her niece, Margaret Tinsley Tait of Hollywood, FL, her nephew, C.W. Tinsley Jr. of Miami, FL, her niece, Katharyn Sager, of Greenville, NC, her cousin, Laila W. Pearsall of Richmond, VA and numerous other cousins.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, February 5, 2000 at 11:00 A.M. from the Mount Hermon Baptist Church by the Reverend Don Davidson. Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations be made to the Mount Hermon Baptist Church, 4385 Franklin Turnpike Danville, VA 24540.
Peggy Whitt
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Peggy Ratliff Whitt, 64, of 715 Traver St., died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000, at her home.
Born Aug. 17, 1935, in Halifax County, she was a daughter of Charles Stewart Ratliff and Kate K. Kinsler Ratliff.
She was married
to George Henry Whitt, who survives. She was a member of Black Walnut Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband of South Boston, survivors include three daughters, Annette D. Mallory of Norcross, Ga., and Susan Tracey Whitt and Linda Whitt Harris of South Boston; two sons, David Duncan of Clyde, N.C., and Stewart Thomas Whitt of Alton; two sisters, Virginia R. Kelly and Alice R. Crenshaw of South Boston; three brothers, Gene Durwood Ratliff of Spartanburg, S.C., and Milton Mitchell Ratliff and Riley L. Ratliff of South Boston, and two grandsons.
She was predeceased by one brother, Charles Stewart Ratliff Jr.

Madelene Herndon Worley
MECHANICSVILLE, Va. - Madelene Herndon Worley, 87, of 8044 Elliot Drive, Mechanicsville Virginia, died February 3, 2000 at the Healthsouth Medical Center Richmond.
Mrs. Worley was born March 30, 1912 in Pittsylvania Co., Virginia. She was the wife of the late Edward Paul Worley. Two daughters, Iva Worley Barbour and Barbara W. Murphy both of Mechanicsville; one brother, Johnnie E. Herndon of Dry Fork; one sister, Ruth H. Wood of Danville; four grandchildren, J. Michael Barbour, Wendy Murphy, Kristy Hampton and Karla Murphy survive her. She was a member of Emmanuel Pentacostal Holiness Church.
Funeral Services will conducted Saturday February 5, 2000 at 2:00 P.M. from the Scott Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Charles Arnold. Interment

NATHALIE, Va. - Stover Adams, 85, of 16211 L.P. Bailey Mem. Hwy., died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2000, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born Jan. 26, 1915, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Daniel Adams and Susie Guard Adams.
He was married
to Irene Coates Adams. He was a member of Childrey Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Betty Francis of Winfall; one son, Bobby J. Adams of Salem; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by one son, Rexford L. Adams.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Rodney Barwick officiating. Burial will be in Childrey Baptist Church cemetery.

SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Eugenia Landrum Anderson, 87, of 715 Marshall Ave., died Friday, Feb. 4, 2000, at Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born June 17, 1912, in Halifax County, she was a daughter of Charlie Henry Landrum and Nannie Howard Chaney Landrum.
She was married
to Junious Eugene (Dean) Anderson. She was a member of the Center United Church of Christ.
Survivors include two daughters, Bettie A. Srougi of Lynchburg and Geraldine A. Newton of Danville; one son, Junious Eugene Anderson of Vernon Hill; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Wilder officiating. Burial will be in Halifax Memorial Gardens.

Carson Dodson
DANVILLE, Va. - Carson Dodson, 59, of 314 E. Thomas St., died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2000, in High Point, N.C.
Born Sept. 30, 1940, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Silas Dodson and Annie Glass Dodson, who survives.
He was a member of Kentuck Baptist Church and was employed with Custom Home Delivery. He served in the U.S. Air Force.
In addition to his mother of Danville, survivors include one sister, Essie D. Ferrell of Danville; one brother, Simon Dodson of Brooklyn, N.Y.; one daughter, Stephine Spencer of Harrisburg, Pa., and one grandchild.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at L.H. Brooks & Bros. Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jessie Fitz officiating. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
A viewing will be from 1-8 p.m. Saturday at L.H. Brooks & Bros. Funeral Home.

James Feury
DANVILLE, Va. - James Williams “Bill” Feury, 80, of 550 Ferry Road, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center after one year of declining health and a two-day stay in the hospital.
Born Sept. 16, 1919, in White Sulphur Springs, W.Va., he was a son of William M. Feury and Cosby Della Fields Feury.
He was married
to Frances Harris Feury, who survives. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during WWII. He had lived in Danville since 1965, where he was the grounds supervisor at Danville Golf Club for 14 years prior to retiring at the age of 62. He was of the Methodist faith.
In addition to his wife of the residence, his only survivors are nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bennie L. Poovey officiating. Interment
will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens with military honors performed by American Legion Post 325 Honor Guard.
