CHATHAM, Va. - Elnora Meadows Betterton, 80, of 4421 Halifax Road, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Sept. 8, 1919, in Virginia, she was the daughter of Claude Meadows and Mary Eanes Meadows.
She was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy.
Survivors include two daughters, Eunice B. Rowland of Gretna and Janice B. Jenkins of Griffin, Ga.; three sons, Jerry B. Betterton of Chatham, Donald W. Betterton of Eustis, Fla., and Malcolm L. Betterton of Gretna; three sisters, Janie M. Shelton of Gretna, Rebecca M. Montgomery of Chatham, and Nellie M. Marks of Richmond; one brother, Paul J. Meadows of Santee Cooper, S.C.; nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Claude S. Meadows Jr. and Alton Meadows and two grandchildren.
A graveside funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Church of God of Prophecy with the Rev. Edward L. Pope officiating.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at Scott Funeral Home, and other times at the residence.
Anne Gammon
DANVILLE, Va. - Anne Bradner Gammon, 68, of 310 Westhampton Ave., died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2000, at Friendship Manor Nursing Manor in Roanoke after one year of illness.
Born Aug. 16, 1931, in Danville, she was a daughter of Hansford Bradner and Elizabeth Gilbert Bradner, who survives.
She was married
to William Raymond Gammon Jr. of the home, who survives. She had lived her entire life in Danville and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Mount Vernon United Methodist Church.
In addition to her husband of the residence, and her mother of Danville, survivors include one sister, Nancy B. Trotter of High Point, N.C.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. Doug Pillow officiating. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel.
Willie Marshall
DANVILLE, Va. - Willie Randolph Marshall, 90, of 428 Vicar Road, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2000, at Riverside Health Care Center.
Born Jan. 15, 1910, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of John Henry Marshall and Betty Owens Marshall.
He was married
to Mary Ann Adkins Marshall, who predeceased him in January 1986. He was a member of Grace Design United Methodist Church. Until his retirement, he was employed as an overseer at Dan River Inc.
Survivors include two sons, Randolph B. Marshall of Fredericksburg, and Beverly R. Marshall of Montana; two daughters, Shelby M. Jones of Raleigh, N.C., and Brenda “Bunny” Loftis of Danville; one sister, Geraldia M. Dalton of Danville; 11 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by one grandson.
A graveside funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Chatham Burial Park with the Rev. Tom Erwin officiating.

Geneva B. Myers
GRETNA, Va. - Geneva Barbour Myers, age 79, of 406 Leftwich Street, Gretna, died Wednesday, February 9, 2000, in Gretna Health Care Center.
Born September 23, 1920 in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of the late Woodie Barbour and Sallie Simpson Barbour. She was predeceased by a brother William Audry Barbour. Mrs. Myers was a retired cafeteria worker with the Pittsylvania County School System and was of the Christian faith.
She is survived by her husband of sixty-one years, George Douglas Myers of the residence, one son Edward D. Myers of Danville; three brothers, James Orel Barbour of Altavista, Ludolph Barbour of Danville and Adrian Barbour of Altavista; three grandchildren, Darrell Myers of Milton, NC, Mike Myers of Danville and Cheryl Marin of Sterling; two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 12, 2000 at the Colbert-Moran Chapel by Rev. Woodrow Tuck and Ruby Hearn, Minister. Burial will follow in Gretna Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, February 11, 2000 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times at the residence 406 Leftwich Street, Gretna.

George Tarpley
DANVILLE, Va. - George Cable Tarpley, 76, of 131 Beaver Mills Road, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born March 26, 1923, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Ed Tarpley and Roxie Webb Tarpley.
He was married
to the Rev. Sister Laura McLaughlin Tarpley, who survives. He was employed with Stanley Furniture Company for many years.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include two sisters, Ressie Keene of Keeling and Roxie Burton of Washington, and one brother, Freddie Tarpley of Washington.
A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the Chapel of Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home with the Rev. Leonard Thompson officiating. Interment
will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.

Oliver Terriberry
DANVILLE, Va. - Oliver Thurman Terriberry, of 554 West Main St., apt. A, beloved husband of Linda Childs Thomsen Terriberry, died peacefully in the arms of his wife and daughter at Danville Regional Medical Center on January 8, 2000. Born August 11, 1927 in Hartford, CT, he was the son of G. Gilson Terriberry and Nancy Thurman Terriberry. He lived a full life with Juvenile Diabetes for 67 years. He battled Alzheimer’s for the final 5 years of his life. He attended the University of Conneticut and was a Dairy Farmer in Monticello, GA for 10 years. Among his many contributions are engineering designs while employed by Georgia Tech, Executive Director of Georgia Mountain Planning and Development Commision in the North Georgia Mountains, hosting multiple foreign students during their visitation to this country and providing love and an honorable role model to his three children and four grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his wife and partner of 52 years, his sons, his daughter Judy Terriberry Broughton and her husband Robert Broughton and their children Linda, Robbie, Jenny, and Michael Broughton of Danville, VA, his sister Ann Terriberry Carter of Stillwater, MN., his many nieces and nephews, and his faithful dog Molly. At his request his body was donated to medical research in hopes that more could be learned about diabetes. A memorial service celebrating his life and his safe return to God will be held at a later date. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Alzheimer’s Association.
Fannie Thomas
DANVILLE, Va. - Fannie Long Thomas, 70, of 172 Bell Drive, died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2000, in the emergency room of the Danville Regional Medical Center after two months of declining health.
Born Nov. 17, 1929, in Person County, N.C., she was a daughter of Napolean Bryant Long and Lula Hopgood Long.
She was married
to James William “Bill” Thomas on March 9, 1951, who predeceased her on Jan. 5, 1997. She had spent most of her life in Danville where she was a seamstress for Healthtex Inc., for 20 years. She was a 1948 graduate of Bethel High School in Roxboro, N.C., and a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Danville.
Survivors include three daughters, Debra Eanes, Joan Lewis and Helen Thomas, all of Danville; two sisters, Martha Carver and Lillie Tingen, both of Roxboro, N.C.; three brothers, Raymond Long of Roxboro, N.C., Arnold Long of Southport, N.C., and Herman Long of Danville; two grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
A graveside funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Floral Hills Memory Gardens with the Rev. Tommy London and Rev. Robert Davis officiating.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at Swicegood Funeral Home, and other times at the residence.
Adeline Toomer
DANVILLE, Va. - Adeline Inge Toomer, 75, of 119 Melbourne Circle, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2000, at the Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County.
Born Nov. 10, 1924, in Danville, she was a daughter of Moses Inge and Mary Noble Inge.
She was married
to the Rev. Willie J. Toomer, who survives. She attended Langston High School and was a graduate of Maco Beauty College in Greensboro, N.C. She was a beautician and a lifetime member of the Jones Chapel Baptist Church where she served on the Deaconess Board and was a member of the Senior Choir.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include one daughter, Norma Angela Wilson of Danville; two sons, Wayne Toomer and Larry Toomer, both of Danville; one sister, Jerene Inge Hines of Danville; three grandchildren and one great grandchild.
She was predeceased by five sisters and one brother.
A funeral will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at Jones Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. Hayes McConnell officiating. Interment
will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.

DANVILLE, Va. - Earline Foster Watkins, 77, of 725 Temple Ave., died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2000, at Duke University Medical Center.
Born Dec. 13, 1922, in the Glenwood section of Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Jacob Foster and Mary Fultz Foster.
She was a member of East New Hope Baptist Church, and was retired from Dan River Inc.
Survivors include one daughter, Kaylor W. Debrou of Danville; two sons, Keith Watkins of Danville and Kenneth C. Watkins of Fairburn, Ga.; one brother, George Foster of Danville; two sisters, Frances F. Garland of Danville and Rita F. Broadnax of Washington; 10 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at East New Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. Marcellous Mack officiating. Interment
will be at Floral Hills Memory Gardens.

Minnie Blanks
DANVILLE, Va. - Minnie Walker Gauldin Blanks, 94, of Stratford Health Care Center, and formerly of Pelham, N.C., died Friday, Feb. 11, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born May 12, 1905, in Rockingham, N.C., she was a daughter of Hughy Walker and Carrie Wilson Walker.
She was married
first to Jessie E. Gauldin, who predeceased her, and then to James A. Blanks, who also predeceased her. She lived most of her life in Pelham, N.C. and had been in Stratford Health Care Center for 18 months. She was retired from the #2 spinning room at Dan River Mills and was a charter member of True Gospel Baptist Church.
Survivors include eight daughters, Pauline C. Ketchum of Danville, Mamie G. New and Frances G. Meeks, both of Ruffin, N.C., Linda Gauldin of Greensboro, N.C., Gloria G. Adkins of Dry Fork, Gladys G. Sparks of Providence, N.C., Delores G. Rudd of Chatham, and Carolyn G. Ware of Ringgold; three sons, Irvin Gauldin of Danville, Leonard Gauldin of Roxboro, N.C., and Kenneth Gauldin of Pelham, N.C., two half sisters, Cornelia Hailey of Lynchburg and Naomi “Peggy” Bumgardner of Richmond; one half brother, Kenova Walker of Newport News; 46 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren, and 26 great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her husbands, she was predeceased by four sons, Jessie, Ernest, Hubert, and Luther Gauldin, and one half sister, Beth Walker.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at True Gospel Baptist Church with the Revs. Hubert Inman and Cletus Grubbs officiating. Interment
will be at Mountain View cemetery.
