John Ferrell
DRY FORK, Va. - John "Ninty" Edward Ferrell, 87, of 15829 Mount Cross Road died Monday, Feb. 14, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center after five years of declining health and a two-day stay in the hospital.
Born Dec. 16, 1912, in Halifax County, he was the son of Scott H. Ferrell and Mary Ferrell Ferrell.
He spent his entire life in the Pittsylvania County area where he was an electrician by trade until he retired. He was a member of Swansonville United Methodist Church.
Survivors include one son, Preston Ferrell of Baltimore; two brothers, H. Eldridge Ferrell of Dry Fork and Walter S. Ferrell of Danville; one sister, Florine F. Browning of Chatham, one grandchild and three great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. Randy Williams and the Rev. Linwood Daniel officiating. Interment
will be at Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Carol Flint
DANVILLE, Va. - Carol Flint, 43, of Danville, VA. lost her courageous three year battle with ovarian cancer on February 14, 2000 at Duke University Medical Center.
She attended St. Luke's United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir, participated in Bible Study and administered her testimony to those she met.
Carol and her husband, Larry moved several times throughout their marriage, and during those times she was always active in church. She was a Director of Women's Fellowship for 200 women in California, arranged women's retreats, taught bible school, performed in plays and sang several solos.
She was a five year member of BSF (Bible Study Fellowship), attended a music camp in Indiana, participated in a cancer survivor march in Washington D.C. where she was interviewed by a local T.V. station, and also enjoyed acting and singing in plays.
She worked at the Convention Center in Waco, TX where she coordinated an airshow and was given an award by the Chamber of Commerce. In Shipshewana, IN. she was a special events coordinator at the Essenhaus restaurant and hotel.
Before and even during her illness she loved to travel and recently visited the Holy Lands in Israel, Niagra Falls in Canada, Mt. Rainier in Washington, the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse and saw one of the final shows of "The Phantom of the Opera" in Toronto.
Carol was by all means a cancer survivor in the way that she lived her life. She never let her diagnosis stop her from doing the things her heart desired and she lived each day to the fullest.
She was born on May 5, 1956 and is survived by her husband of 25 years, Larry Flint, of Danville, VA; her parents, Alfred and Corinne Oney of Greenwich, OH; her mother and father-in-law, Dick and Marilyn Flint; her sisters, Laura Sweeting of North Fairfield, OH; Cheryl Wasserman of Clyde, OH; Robyn Bovia of Shelby, OH; Dawn Oney of Toledo, OH; brother, Steve Oney of Huron, OH.; Eleven nieces, seven nephews, sister-in-law and close friend Kay Wise, her beloved church friends and neighbors.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 16, 2000, 8:00 p.m. at St. Luke's United Methodist Church. Rev. Ron Mateer will be conducting the services. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
A service in Greenwich, OH will follow with a funeral service being held at Ripley Church on Saturday, February 19, 2000, 3:00 p.m. Rev. Scott Carmer will be conducting the services. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment
will follow at Edwards Grove cemetery.

Mary Alice Fuller
CHATHAM, Va. - Mary Alice Fuller, 82, of 921 Glenview Drive, Chatham, died Sunday, Feb 13, 2000, at the Stratford Health Care Center.
Born July 21, 1918 in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Christopher Myers and Ada Edwards Myers, who both predeceased her.
She was married
to James H. Fuller, who also predeceased her.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed with the American Furniture Company. She was a member of Callands Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Ethelene Hines of Upper Marlboro, Md.; three sons, James A. Fuller and Harvey Fuller, both of Nathalie, and Richard H. Fuller of Chatham; two sisters, Martha Dickerson of Roosevelt, N.Y., and Elizabeth Jones of Flushing, N.Y.; one brother, George W. Myers of Washington, and several grandchildren.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Callands Baptist Church with the Rev. Obediah St. George officiating. Interment
will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Fisher & Watkins Funeral Home. All other times will be at 913 Glenview Drive, Chatham.
Leo Nelson Goad
DANVILLE, Va. - Leo Nelson Goad, 63, of 260 Eastwood Drive, Lot 12, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2000, at Duke University Medical Center.
Born June 15, 1936, in Danville, he was a son of George M. Goad and Marion Thompson Goad.
He was a retired construction worker.
Survivors include one son, Steven Goad of Florida; a sister, Charlene G. Owen of Danville; and one brother, Danny Goad of Suffolk.
A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Ron Mateer officiating.
The family will receive friends at the residence of his sister, 115 Redwood Drive.

James McArthur Jamerson
CHATHAM, Va. - James McArthur Jamerson, 55, of 288 Mill Creek Road, died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born April 30, 1944, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Douglas and Hettie Rea Chatten Johnson.
He was married
to Betty Clark Jamerson, who survives. He was employed with Diamond Paper Company and was of the Holiness faith.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include one son, William Douglas Jamerson and one daughter, Sherl Veronica Jamerson, both of the residence.
He was predeceased by one brother, Kyle Chatten and one sister, Hattie Suretta Jamerson.
A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Little Mount Zion Pentecostal Holiness Church in Chatham with the Pastor, Elder Mandoria Hayes officiating. Interment
will be in Hillcrest Burial Park.
A viewing will take place at the church from 12 noon until the time of the service.

Nancy W. Kossoff
DANVILLE, Va. - Nancy Whitfield Kossoff, 84, of 648 Dover Place died Sunday, February 13, 2000 in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be conducted by the Reverend Bruce Wilson and Margaret Wayland at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, February 16, 2000 at Wrenn-Yeatts, Westover Chapel with interment to follow at Highland Burial Park.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Hugh Kossoff, September 30, 1980. They were married
on December 23, 1945.
A native of Greensboro, North Carolina, she was born November 9, 1915 to Ira Edward Whitfield and Elsie Holler Whitfield. She was a resident of Danville for 46 years and a member of the Eastern Star, an active volunteer in the local branch of the Girl Scouts of America and an officer in several garden clubs. A founding member of North Main Baptist Church, she later became a member of West Main Baptist Church where she was involved for many years as a Sunday School teacher and in the Preschool Department.
She is survived by a son, Robert Hugh Kossoff, of Richmond, Virginia, three daughters, Mirinda Jean Kossoff of Durham, North Carolina, Martha Ellen Kossoff of Alexandria, Virginia, Bonnie Elizabeth McDaniel of Reidsville, North Carolina, and five grandchildren: Andrew and Matthew Danser of Durham, N.C., Sarah and Rachel McDaniel of Reidsville, N.C., and Amanda Kossoff of Richmond, Va. She is also survived by a nephew, Joseph Corsbie of Winston-Salem, N.C.
The family will be at the residence, 648 Dover Place, Danville, Virginia, at other times.

Ann Lynch
DANVILLE, Va. - Ann Thompson Lynch, 66, of 310 Northmont Blvd., died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2000 at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born April 20, 1933 in Halifax County, she was the daughter of Bernard Garland Dixon and Thelma Compton Dixon. On July 18, 1998, she married
Sherman Edward Lynch, who survives at the residence.
She lived her entire life in Danville and Pittsylvania County. She was retired from the Southern Virginia Mental Health Institute, where she worked as a payroll accountant for 14 years.
She was a member of North Main Baptist Church and a member of the A.B.W.A. Danville Charter Chapter.
In addition to her husband, survivors include one son, Kenneth Andrews of Frankfurt, Germany, one daughter, Sue A. Burnett of Danville, one sister, Ruby D. Brumfield of Keeling, one brother, Meredith Dixon of Vernon Hill, and one granddaughter.
She was predeceased by her brother, Dr. Cecil B. Dixon.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Eddie Davis and Rev. Kyle Flora officiating. Interment
will be in Hillcrest Burial Park.

Ellis Midkiff
GRETNA, Va. - Ellis Henry Midkiff, age 78, of 709 Fairmont Road, Gretna died Tuesday, February 15, 2000 in Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born February 13, 1922 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late Jake Midkiff and Tencie Bowler Midkiff. Mr. Midkiff was married
to the late Frances Berger Midkiff. He was predeceased by a brother Carroll Midkiff. He was retired from Mecklenburg Electric Co-op. He was an Army veteran of World War II, a member of American Legion Post #232, a member of the Brushy Mountain Club, George's Creek Shack and Deer Horn Hunt Camp.
He is survived by three sons, Keith Midkiff of FL, David Berger of Lynchburg and Tommy Berger of Gretna; one daughter, Becky Shelton of Gretna; one brother, Frank Midkiff of Gretna; 10 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 17, 2000 at Greenfield Baptist Church by Rev. R. G. Rowland. Interment
with military honors by VFW Post 4165 and DAV Chapter 46 will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times at the residence 709 Fairmont Road, Gretna.

Sarah Bailey Mitchell
DANVILLE, Va. - Sarah Bailey Mitchell, 62, of 1328 Aspen Street, Danville, died Sunday, February 13, 2000 at Danville Regional Medical Center.
She was born February 18, 1937 in Alexandria, Virginia, a daughter of the late Mabel Bailey. She was married
to Leon A. Mitchell, who predeceased her. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by the District Government in Washington, D.C.
She is survived by one daughter, Eleanor Bullock of Landover, MD, four sons, Greg Bowman of Upper Marlboro, MD, Leon A. Mitchell, Jr., of Baltimore, MD, Gary Mitchell, Sr. of Danville, and Timothy Mitchell, Sr. of Landover, MD, her fiancee McKenzie Perrit, three daughters-in-law, Bertha, Diane and Joyce, one sister-in-law, Florence Murphy, and a host of granchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by one grandson, DaVaughn T. Mitchell.
Funeral services for Mrs. Sarah Bailey Mitchell will be conducted on Thursday, February 17, 2000 at 1:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home with Bishop Dennis Williams officiating. A viewing will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, February 16, 2000 from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. All other times the family will be at 114 Hopkins Street.
A second viewing will be at Stewart Funeral Home in Washington, D.C. where she will be laid to rest at Harmony cemetery in Landover, MD.

CHATHAM, Va. - John Raymond Thomas, 74, of 4789 Oxford Road died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000, at his residence.
Born Feb. 15, 1925, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of John Thomas Sr. and Lillie Bennet Thomas.
He was married
to Stella Wade Thomas, who predeceased him. He was self-employed as a logger and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include one son, Danny Thomas of Hurt; seven daughters, Joyce Thomas of Gretna, Sandra Thomas of Hurt, Hester T. Bates of California, Barbara T. Thomas of Shaker Heights, Ohio, Margie T. Key of San Diego, Deborah Thomas of Gibsonville, N.C., and Stephanie Thomas of Roanoke; three sisters, Josephine Baldwin of Philadelphia, Elizabeth Thomas of New Jersey and Joann Clements of Bridgeport, Conn.; two brothers, William Thomas of Danville and Rudolph Clements of San Pedro, Calif.; 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday at the chapel of Miller Funeral Home with Elder Rodney Key officiating. Interment
will be in the Elba Baptist Church cemetery.
