Charlie James Francis
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Charlie James Francis, 79, of 1321 Willingham Ave., died Feb. 17, 2000, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born Oct. 6, 1920, in Halifax County, he was the son of Charlie Marshall Francis and Ollie Landrum Francis.
He was married
to Willsie C. Francis, who survives.
He was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a Seabee in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific. Prior to his retirement, he worked as a deputy for the Halifax County Sheriff's Department.
In addition to his wife of South Boston, survivors include one daughter, Patricia Francis Burton of Halifax; one sister, Dorothy Burton of Newport News, Va.; one granddaughter, Luanna Burton Daniel of Halifax; and two grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday from Main Street United Methodist Church with the Rev. Doug Martin and Dr. John Fariss officiating. Interment
will follow in the Oak Ridge cemetery in South Boston.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday at Brooks Funeral Home and at other times at the residence.
Mary Alice Fuller
CHATHAM, Va. - Mary Alice Fuller, 82, of 921 Glenview Drive, Chatham, died Sunday, Feb 13, 2000, at the Stratford Health Care Center.
Born July 21, 1918 in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Christopher Myers and Ada Edwards Myers.
She was married
to James H. Fuller, who predeceased her.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed with the American Furniture Company. She was a member of Callands Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Ethelene Hines of Upper Marlboro, Md.; three sons, James A. Fuller and Harvey Fuller, both of Nathalie, and Richard H. Fuller of Chatham; two sisters, Martha Dickerson of Roosevelt, N.Y., and Elizabeth Jones of Flushing, N.Y.; one brother, George W. Myers of Washington, and several grandchildren.
A funeral was held at 2 p.m. Friday at Callands Baptist Church with the Rev. Obediah St. George officiating. Interment
followed in the church cemetery.
The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Fisher & Watkins Funeral Home and at other times at 913 Glenview Drive, Chatham.
Ned Carter Henderson
HALIFAX, Va. - Ned Carter Henderson, 72, of 1114 Deer Run Road, died Feb. 18, 2000 at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born in Halifax County on May 2, 1927, he was the son of Oscar Hale Henderson and Annie Henry Henderson. He was married
to Evelyn Osborne Henderson and was a member of Oak Level Presbyterian Church.
He worked as a farmer, merchant, contractor and founder of H&H Enterprises before he retired.
He was predeceased by one brother, Ryland Henderson.
In addition to his wife of Halifax, survivors include one daughter, Elizabeth "Betsye" H. Throckmorton of Scottsburg; one son, Ned Carter Henderson Jr. of South Boston; his mother, Annie Henry Henderson of Halifax; one brother, Ray Fountaine Henderson of Richmond; and four grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Oak Level Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Russell Lee officiating. Interment
will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday at Powell Funeral Home, and other times at the residence.
Gladys Turner Hile
GLOUCESTER, Va. - Gladys Turner Hile, age 70, was called to eternal life on February 17, 2000. Gladys was a self sufficient wife, mother and grandmother who loved her family, the outdoors, her animals and her collection of dolls. She and her husband have been owners of Hile's nursery since 1975.
Survivors include: two daughters, Linda H. Schultz and her husband George; Pat West and her husband J.T.; three sons, Glenn C. Hile and his wife Joyce, Leslie T. Hile and his wife Sharon, Donald L. Hile and his wife Linda; her father, Leonard Turner; one brother, Jack Turner; and nine grandchildren, Joshua Hanna, Lori Hanna, Daniel Hile, Alister Hile, Steve Schultz, Katie Scultz, Megan Hile, Scott Hile and Evan Hile.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 20, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. at Bellamy United Methodist Church in Gloucester, conducted by the Reverend Walton C. Forstall. Interment
will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point Saturday, February 19, 2000 from 7-8:00 p.m.

Bobby Alderson Hines
DANVILLE, Va. - Bobby Alderson Hines, 64, of 1216 Halifax Road, died Feb. 17, 2000, in Danville Regional Medical Center, after several months of declining health and a four-day stay in the hospital.
Born April 25, 1935, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Willie Alderson Hines and Annie Yeatts Hines, who both predeceased him. He lived all of his life in Pittsylvania County and Danville. Prior to his retirement, he worked in construction and as a truck driver.
He attended the Living Waters Mission.
He is survived by a sister, Marguerite H. Clark of Danville.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. Roy Newton officiating. Interment
will follow in Highland Burial Park.
The family will be at the residence of his sister, 225 Thrush St.
Ozea Pointer
MANHATTAN, N.Y. - Ozea Pointer, 53, of Manhattan, N.Y., died recently.
Born March 6, 1946, he was the son of Zack and Geneva Pointer.
He was a native of Halifax County and a member of the Greater Brandon Chapel Baptist Church.
Survivors include four sisters, Jeanette Harris of Alton, Va., Mary Rhames and Redessa Taylor both of the Bronx, N.Y., Rosalee Barnett of Baltimore, Md.; and two brothers, Zollie and Jermiah Pointer, both of Baltimore, Md.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Greater Brandon Chapel Baptist Church in Alton, Va.
A viewing took place Friday at the Plenty Funeral Home Chapel in Semora, N.C.
The family will receive friends at the residence, 2129 Pointer Road, Alton, Va.

Mary Lou Leonard Price
DANVILLE, Va. - Mary Lou Leonard Price, formerly of 110 Westmore Drive, died Thursday morning, February 17, 2000 in Roman Eagle Memorial Home.
She was born on August 20, 1910 in Washington County, near Bristol, Va., a daughter of Joel Zebedee Leonard and Lilly Smith Leonard.
On November 24, 1928 she married
Dale R. Price who died November 10, 1996. She was a very devoted homemaker and was an active member of West Main Baptist Church.
She is survived by a son, Raymond Dale Price and his wife, Solfrid Price of Fairfield, Pa., a daughter, Jo Greenberg and her husband, Dr. Milton Greenberg of Danville, three granddaughters, Dr. Lisa Plazzo and her husband, Bob of Peninsula, Ohio, Dale Greenberg of Baltimore, Md. and Susan Jones and her husband, Frankie of Bluffton, S.C.; two grandsons, David McGill and his wife Jana of Sea Side, Oregon and Kristoffer McGill of Portland, Oregon. Four great-grandchildren, Brandy and Brian Plazzo and Mary Stewart and Michael Jones. Two brothers, Spurdgeon Leonard of Portsmouth, Va. and Joel Z. Leonard of Charleston, S.C., one sister, Barbara Kaufman of Dallas, Texas.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. from Highland Burial Park by the Rev. Bruce Wilson.
The family received friends at Townes Funeral Home on Friday from 7:00-8:30 p.m. and at other times at the residence of Dr. & Mrs. Milton Greenberg, 173 Linden Drive.

Edward William Roebuck
DANVILLE, Va. - Edward William Roebuck, 69, of 154 North Avenue, Danville, died Wed., Feb. 16, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born June 26, 1930, he was a son of Jessie Roebuck and Lucille Pearl Roebuck.
He was married
to Gladys Waldren Roebuck, who survives. He worked for Hairston Motor Company.
In addition to his wife of the residence, he is survived by one daughter, Jocaster Suthers of Atlanta; one son, Lee Waldren of Atlanta; and one sister, Luvennia Roebuck of Jersey City, N.J.
A funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday from the chapel of Fisher & Watkins Funeral Home with Bishop Major Hairston officiating. Interment
will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens.

Shirley Mae Sparks
DANVILLE, Va. - Shirley Mae Sparks, 39, of 507 Wirsham Street, died February 18, 2000 at Danville Regional Medical Center after three years of declining health.
Born Feb. 2, 1961, she was the daughter of Robert Lee Sparks and Mary Jane Wiles Sparks, both of whom survive.
She had spent all of her life in Danville and was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by one son, Danny Wayne Sparks of Harrisonburg; four brothers, Tommy Sparks, James Sparks, Marvin Sparks, and Bobby Sparks all of Danville; and four sisters, Margie Martin, Linda Crossett, Thelma Lapley all of Danville and Peggy Whitlow of Ringgold.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at Danville Memorial Gardens by the Rev. J. Richard Markham.
The family will receive friends at the residence of her parents at 30 Elizabeth St.

General Anderson
JAVA, Va. - General Grant Anderson, 62, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born March 7, 1937, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of John Anderson and Laura Grasty Anderson.
He was previously married
to Cleo Davis Cunningham, who survives. He was a farmer.
Survivors include two daughters, Deborah Ann Ingram and Janice Faye Anderson, both of Danville; one son, Gerald Grant Anderson of Winston Salem, N.C.; two brothers, Chester Anderson of Java and John Arthur Anderson of Gretna; eight sisters, Blonzella Anderson of Chatham, Laura Ann Anderson of Winston Salem, Janie P. Barbour of Danville, Lucy Barley and Mable Oakes, both of Java, Rena V. Ferguson of New York, and Louise Haley and Earline Saunders, both of Gretna; eight grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
He was predeceased by one son, Thomas Reginald Anderson, and four sisters, Annie Mae Peatross, Helen Coles, Dorothy Mitchell and Francis Anderson.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Monday at the chapel of Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home with the Rev. Letcher Coleman officiating. Interment
will be at Highland Burial Park.
