Dakota Crosby
STAUNTON, Va. - Dakota Levi Crosby, infant son of Ricky Crosby and Autumn (Riner) Ryder of Verona, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, at the University of Virginia Hospital, Charlottesville.
He was born Dec. 30, 1999, in Lynchburg.
In addition to his parents, survivors include one brother, Tyler Crosby; maternal grandparents, Wayne and Joyce Robertson of Danville and Ralph Riner of Bath County; maternal great grandparents, Ronald and Marie Wilmoth and Jack Turner, all of Danville.
He was predeceased by a paternal grandmother, Nancy M. Crosby.
A funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Hamrick Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary S. Hodges officiating. Interment
will follow in Thornrose cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Friday at Hamrick Funeral Home.
James Fitzgerald
MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. -James Windell Fitzgerald, "Pete", 53, of 254 South First Ave., and formerly of Route 6, Chatham, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2000, in Mount Vernon.
Born June 29, 1946, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Harvey Fitzgerald Sr. and Clella Berger Fitzgerald.
He was a truck driver for Allied Moving Co. and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include four daughters, Yvette Lassiter of Fort Washington, Md., Yvonne Gross of Clinton, Md., Twinette Bluitt of Bronx, and Ishea Breez of Mount Vernon; one son, Barry Mease of Syracuse; one brother, Anthony Fitzgerald of Danville, Va.; three sisters, Shelby Fitzgerald of Martinsville, Va., Vivian Gregory of Chatham, Va., and Rosetta Kornegay of Mount Vernon.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Chapel of Miller Funeral Home with the Rev. Hubert White officiating. Burial will be in the Callands Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence of Vivian Gregory, 3036 Bear Skin Road, Chatham.

Mary Emma Henderson Grant
DANVILLE, Va. - Mary Henderson Grant, 77, of 112 Kent St., died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, after three and a half years of declining health.
Born Jan. 16, 1923, she was a daughter of Will H. Henderson and Bessie Eastwood Henderson, who both predeceased her.
She was married
Aug. 2, 1941, to Herman O. Grant, who survives. She was a member of Glenwood Memorial Baptist Church, and she lived her life in Pittsylvania County and Danville. She was a homemaker.
In addition to her husband of the residence, she is survived by one daughter, Joan G. Thomason of Danville; two sisters, Jean H. Paul of Danville and Myrtle H. Grant of Blairs; and two grandchildren.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Roger H. Henderson and James Elmo Henderson.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with the Rev. Clarence B. Jackson and the Rev. Carl Burger officiating. Interment
will follow in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel and at other times at the residence of her daughter, Joan G. Thomason, 429 Wimbish Drive, Danville.

Helen Talbard Guill
DANVILLE, Va. - Helen Talbard Guill, 78, of 212 Moffett St., Danville, died Feb. 21, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center after suffering from declining health since September and a two-week stay in the hospital.
Born March 8, 1921 in Halifax County, she was a daughter of James Talbard and Menla Hammock Talbard, who both predeceased her.
She lived in the Mountain Hill Community and was employed by the Dan River Mills Inc. and was a nursing aid and private sitter at Roman Eagle Memorial Nursing Home when she retired. She was a member of Third Avenue Christian Church.
She was married
to Thornton B. Guill, who survives.
In addition to her husband of the residence, she is survived by two sons, Tony Guill of Danville, and Larry Guill of Reidsville, N.C.; one brother, Thomas Talbard of Ringgold; four sisters, Minnie T. Lynch, Barbara T. Page, Dora T. Walton, all of Danville, Virginia T. Rice of Blairs; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by one granddaughter, Lori Ann Guill Ferguson, and three brothers, William Talbard, Ervin Talbard, and Edward Talbard.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, with the Rev. Freddy Vicks officiating. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7:30-9 p.m. Wednesday, at the Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel and at other times at the residence.

Polly H. Sawyers Hawkins
DANVILLE, Va. - Polly H. Sawyers Hawkins, age 95, of 614 Park Avenue, and formerly of 619 Southampton Avenue, died Monday evening February 21, 2000 at the Stratford Health Center, after a year of declining health.
Mrs. Hawkins was born near Climax in Pittsylvania County on October 10, 1904, a daughter of the late Pegram Hayden and Molly P. Scruggs Hayden. She was first married
to Carl E. Sawyers who predeceased her, and later married
Martin T. Hawkins who also predeceased her.
Mrs. Hawkins had spent most of her life in Danville where she was a nurses aide at Danville Regional Medical Center for 15 years before retiring at the age of 62. She attended the former Southall Baptist Church.
She was predeceased by four brothers, Davis Hayden, Garnett Hayden, Jack Hayden, and Kip Hayden, and also predeceased by five sisters, Anna H. McGhee, Grace Hayden, Inez Mims, Lelia Hayden, and Eddie Davidson.
Survivors include one daughter: Beatrice Sawyers Combs of Danville, and one sister: Sallie Riddle of Chatham, and two step daughters: Marie Stewart of Danville and Ruth Jean Norris of Jacksonville, N.C., and one granddaughter, Angela Combs of Danville, and five step grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday at Swicegood Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Robert Vermillion and Rev. Roy Newton. Interment
will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 7:00-8:30 p.m., and at other times at the residence, 614 Park Avenue.
Henry Hudson
DANVILLE, Va. - Henry Hudson, 60, of 111 Quail Drive, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2000, at Duke University Medical Center.
Born Nov. 7, 1939, in Tehula, Miss., a son of Theodore Hudson and Ella Caldwell Hudson.
He was married
to Carolyn Gunn Hudson, who survives. He was employed as a maintenance worker with the New York City Housing Authority for many years prior to relocating to Danville.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include three daughters, Teresa Hudson of Columbia, S.C., Benita Hudson of Laurelton, N.Y., and Bridget Hudson of Danville; one son, Rodney Hudson of Laurelton, N.Y.; two sisters, Mary Brownlow of Jamaica, N.Y. and Jessie Quinn of Tehula, Miss.; one brother, Theodore Hudson III of Tehula, Miss. and three grandchildren.
A funeral will be noon Friday at Kentuck Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Jessie Fitz officiating. Interment
will follow at Floral Hills Memory Garden.

Estelle Jones
WIRTZ, Va. - Estelle W. Jones, 65, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2000, at her home.
She was the daughter of Thomas and Bertha Webb, who predeceased her.
Survivors include her husband, Conley Jones of Wirtz; one son, Dwayne Jones of Penhook; one sister, Marlene St. Clair of Salem; three brothers, Donnie Webb of Craig, and Harold and Doug Webb of Catawba, and one granddaughter.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by three brothers, Hayden, Richard, and Gerald Webb.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Flora Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Bill St. Clair officiating. Interment
will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park.
Friends may call after 3 p.m. Thursday with her family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. at Flora Funeral Service in Rocky Mount.
Lucy Walker
Lucy Brann Walker, 90, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home.
Born April 5, 1909, in Danville, she was the daughter of John T. Brann and Elizabeth Koger Brann.
She was married
to Mickey J. Walker, who predeceased her. She had made her home in Danville all of her life, where she worked at Mary's Diner before retiring, and was a member of College Park Baptist Church.
Survivors include one stepson, Mickey Walker Jr.
She was predeceased by three brothers and three sisters.
A graveside funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Norman Towler Jr. officiating.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at Swicegood Funeral Home.
Delores Williamson
BRONX, N.Y. - Delores Williamson, 55, of 1020 Grand Concurse St., died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000, in the Bronx Lebanon Hospital.
Born Aug. 12, 1944, she was the daughter of Lin Williamson and Luella Moore Williamson.
She was of the Jehovah Witness faith and was a registered nurse with Harlem Hospital for 35 years.
Survivors include one brother, Clarence Williamson of Bronx, and two sisters, Mattie Baynes and Evelyn John, both of Bronx.
The body may be viewed from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Fulton Funeral Home, Yanceyville.
A graveside service will be 3 p.m. Friday at Highland Burial Park with Brother John Bailey and Brother John Cluster officiating.
Nancy Bell
DANVILLE, Va. - Nancy Easley Bell, 92, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, at Roman Eagle Nursing Home.
She was born Jan. 10, 1908, in Halifax County.
Survivors include one daughter, Dolores Evans of Danville; one brother, Charlie Easley of South Boston; 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be 1 p.m. Friday at New Zion Baptist Church, Nathalie, with the Rev. Willie Yancey officiating. Interment
will follow in the church cemetery.
The remains will lie in state one hour prior to service.

Emma Berger
PITTSVILLE, Va. - Emma Jane Berger, 89, of 1508 Ridgeway Road, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2000, at Roman Eagle Nursing Home.
Born April 15, 1910, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Kip Berger and Molly Edwards Berger.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Burning Bush Holiness Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Henrietta Berger and Annie Jefferson, both of Pittsville; four sons, John H. Berger and Joe Berger, both of Pittsville, Matthew Berger of Chatham and Russell Berger of Gretna; one sister, Lola B. Anderson of Pittsville; one brother, Howard Berger of Washington; 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by three sisters, Kate Berger, Flora Robertson, and Lula Mae Robertson, and four brothers, Calvin, Junior, Russell and Thomas Berger.
A funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Burning Bush Holiness Church with the Bishop Edward Crews officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The body will lie in state at the church from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.
The family will receive friends at the residence of her daughter, Henrietta Berger, 1508 Ridgeway Road, Pittsville.
