Inez Gatewood Holder
COLONIAL HEIGHTS, Va. - Inez Gatewood Holder, 75, died Feb. 25, 2000, at Southside Regional Medical Center.
A native of Chatham, she was the daughter of Henry C. and Reba Keen Gatewood, who both predeceased her.
She was married
to Richard P. Holder, who predeceased her.
Prior to her retirement, she was an employee at Petersburg General hospital. She was a member of Alpha Chapter 1 Order of the Eastern Star, American Legion Post 284 Auxiliary, and Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church.
In addition to her spouse and parents, she was predeceased by one brother, Haile L. Gatewood, Sr.
Survivors include one daughter, Ann H. Carico of Colonial Heights; two granddaughters, Melissa Paige of Colonial Heights, Kimberly Dawn Hulford of Killeen, Texas; two brothers, William B. Gatewood of Glen Allen, Herman W. Gatewood of Murfreesboro, N.C.; and one brother-in-law, Henry E. Holder of San Antonio, Texas.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Chatham Burial Park with the Rev. Walker Pettyjohn, Pastor of Chatham Presbyterian Church, officiating.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home and the Norris Funeral Service in Martinsville.

Chester Hyler
DANVILLE, Va. - Chester Woodrow Hyler, 78, of 9920 Martinsville Hwy., died Friday, Feb. 25, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center after three years of declining health and a two-week stay in the hospital.
Born April 28, 1921, in Brosville, he was the son of William James Hyler and Virginia Jane Childress Hyler.
He was married
to Elsie Rush Hyler, who survives, on Nov. 15, 1941. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II. He had made his home in the Bachelors Hall community of Pittsylvania County most of his life. Prior to retiring he was a carpenter for Nationwide. He was a member of Holland Road Baptist Church where he was a deacon and on the church's board of trustees.
In addition to his wife, survivors include one son, Gene Hyler of Danville; three brothers, Aubrey S. Hyler, Archer A. Hyler, and James B. Hyler, all of Danville; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Holland Road Baptist Church with Pastor James Mayes, the Rev. Aubrey Dewberry and the Rev. Harold Chilton officiating. Interment
will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

John Theodore James
STUART, Va. - John Theodore James, 46, of 1536 Kemper Road died Feb. 24, 2000, at the Laurel Meadow Nursing Home in Stuart, Va.
Born March 20, 1953, in Caswell County, N.C., he was a son of the late Martha James Stephens and a step-son of Thomas Stephens, who survives.
Prior to his disability, he was employed at Spray Cotton Mills in Eden, N.C.
In addition to his step-father of Milton, N.C., he is survived by one son, Donnie Lee Wade of Ruffin, N.C.; six sisters, Stella Fitz, Emma Baynes, Judy Smith, Joan Hunt, all of Danville, Kimberly Stephens of Milton, N.C., and Janet Stephens of Blanche, N.C.; two brothers, Herbert James of Danville and Oscar James of Roanoke.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Monday at the chapel of Fisher & Watkins Funeral Home with the Rev. William P. Thomas officiating. Interment
will follow in Highland Burial Park.

Annie Young Shelton
DANVILLE, Va. - Annie Young Shelton, 74, of 1009 Ferry Road, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2000 at her residence.
Born Nov. 7, 1925, she was the daughter of Daniel W. Young Sr. and Frances Y. Young.
She was a native of Pittsylvania County and spent most of her life in the Ferry Road Community.
She married
Herman William Shelton Sr. who predeceased her.
She was employed at Dan River Inc., J.C. Penny, and in home patient health care.
She was a graduate of Schoolfield High School and a member of its alumni association.
She was a lifelong member of the Stokesland United Methodist Church.
In addition to her spouse and her parents, she was predeceased by one son, James W. Shelton.
Survivors include two sons, Charles A. Shelton of Pittsburg, Calif., and Herman W. Shelton Jr. of Merritt Island, Fla.; one brother, D.W. Young of Danville; one sister, Sarah Y. Doss of Danville; and five grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Monday at the Stokesland United Methodist Church with the Rev. Greg West officiating. Interment
will follow in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday at the United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, and at other times at the residence.

Allison Adams
ROANOKE, Va. - Allison Vaden Adams, 79, of 4550 Shenandoah Ave., formerly of 1474 Marina Drive, Gretna, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000, in Veterans Care Center, Roanoke.
Born Sept. 2, 1920, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Amos S. Adams and Drucie Keatts Adams.
He was a member of Motley Baptist Church, a retired employee of Burlington Industries, Klopman Division and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Elouise A. Shelton, and a brother, Ralph Adams.
Survivors include one sister, Audrey Jean A. Joy of Brookneal.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Finch & Finch Chapel, Altavista, with the Rev. Gene Ashworth officiating. Interment
will follow in Summersett Baptist Church cemetery.

Edgar Linwood Crumpton
DANVILLE, Va. - Edgar Linwood Crumpton age 92 of 2406 West Main died Friday Feb. 25, 2000 at his residence after a long decline in health. He was married
to Nannie Lou Carter Crumpton, who predeceased him Feb. 26, 1991. Born June 9, 1907 in Caswell County, N.C., Mr. Crumpton was the son of the late John Carroll Crumpton and Ruth Ann Cook Crumpton. He was retired from Dan River Inc. where he worked in security. He was a charter member of the Stokesland United Methodist Church where he held various positions.
Surviving are two daughters and one son: Linda Joyce Crumpton Easley, Lou Anne Crumpton Jordan and Eddie Carroll Crumpton, all of Danville. One grandson, Brandon Carroll Crumpton of Danville. One sister, Nannie Sue Crumpton of Gatewood, N.C. He was predeceased by 3 brothers; Pritchett, Doc, and Wiseman Crumpton. Also surviving are a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock from the Stokesland United Methodist Church by the Rev. Greg West and the Rev. Barry Crumpton. Interment
will be in Mt. View cemetery. THe family will receive friends at the Swicegood Funeral Home Monday night from 7:00 until 8:30 o'clock. At other times the family will be at the residence. Parbhubhai Patel
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Parbhubhai Bhikhabhai Patel, 82, of 1200 Bill Tuck Hwy., died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000, at Person County Memorial Hospital.
Born Sept. 16, 1917, in India, he was a son of Bhikhabhai Dahyabhai Patel and Maniben D. Patel.
He was married
to Laxmiben Patel. He was a retired farmer.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include three sons, Jay Patel and Sammy Patel, both of South Boston, and Danny Patel of Georgia; one daughter, Lila Patel of Roxboro, N.C.; eight grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild.
A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel.

Lowdaniel Cunningham
DANVILLE, Va. - Lowdaniel Cunningham, 103, of 411 Truman Street, Danville, died Saturday, February 26, 2000 at Danville Regional Medical Center.
She was born September 3, 1896 in Caswell County, North Carolina, a daughter of the late Mac Davis Cunningham and the late Lucy Cunningham. She was employed at the Ann Boyd School of Dancing and Export Tobacco Company for many years prior to her retirement.
She is survived by one sister, Annie Hairston of Danville, one brother, Raymond Cunningham, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is also survived by her loving and devoted caretaker, her niece, Ola Mae Cunningham and great-great niece, Alfredia Cunningham.
The family will receive friends at the residence, 411 Truman Street.
Funeral Services for Ms. Lowdaniel Cunningham will be conducted on Thursday, March 2, 2000 at 3:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home. Interment
will follow in Oak Hill cemetery.

James Fitzgerald Jr.
PORT EWEN, N.Y. - James Pemberton Fitzgerald Jr., 68, of 183 Horton Lane, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2000, at Kingston Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Born April 24, 1931, in Danville, Va., he was the son of James P. Fitzgerald Sr. and Agnes Via Fitzgerald.
He was married
Nov. 15, 1958 to Jeanette Johnson, who survives. He was a graduate of the former Southside High School and attended Virginia State College and received a bachelor of science from St. Paul's College in Lawrenceville, Va. He received a master of science in social studies from State University of New York at New Paltz. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Korean War. He was a teacher with the New York State Division of Youth and also worked for the Poughkeepsie City School District and the Green Haven Correctional Facility. He was also a child care worker at the Wiltwyck School for Boys in Esopus. He was a member of the Rondout Congregation of Jehovah Witness in Kingston. He had also been a volunteer at the Rondout Neighborhood Ceneter.
In addition to his wife, survivors include one daughter, Jacqueline Fitzgerald-Shavers of Port Ewen; three sisters, Carrie F. Cardwell, Esther F. Goins and Audrey F. Wade, all of Danville, Va.; and one brother, Dr. Leroy Fitzgerald of Capitol Heights, Md.
A funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Keyser Funeral Home-Kingston Chapel, with interment at Montrepose cemetery, Kingston.
Warren McDaniel
CASCADE, Va. - Warren Harding McDaniel, 77, of 1620 Cascade Road died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000, at Riverside Health Care Center.
Born May 6, 1922, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Edward McDaniel and Estella Millner McDaniel.
He was married
to Nannie Belle Clark McDaniel, who survives. He was employed at W.M. Bassett Furniture Company for many years prior to his retirement and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church where he served on the Deacon Board, Trustee Board, was a member of the Male Chorus, Gospel Chorus, and Usher Board.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include two daughters, Joan J. Stewart of Washington and Donnie G. Carter of the residence; one sister, Catherine E. Smith of Cascade; three brothers, Horace McDaniel of Martinsville, Andrew David McDaniel of Philadelphia and Otha McDaniel of Eden, N.C.; one grandson, and two great-grandsons.
He was predeceased by two brothers.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Shiloh Baptist Church with the Rev. John W. Tinsley officiating. Interment
with military rites by American Legion Post 29 will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens.
